⁵ After this, you will come to the Gibeah of God, where there are sentries of the Philistines. Just as you enter the town there, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place, with harp, tambourine, flute, and zither before them, and they will be prophesying.

¹⁵ But now bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the LORD came upon him;

³³ Here are the men who served, together with their sons: From the Kohathites: Heman, the musician, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,

³⁹ and Heman's associate Asaph, who served at his right hand: Asaph son of Berekiah, the son of Shimea,

⁴⁴ and from their associates, the Merarites, at his left hand: Ethan son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,

²⁸ and Zadok, a valiant young man, and his father`s house two and twenty chief men.

¹⁶ Then David ordered the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of song, musical instruments, stringed instruments, and cymbals, raising their voices for joy. ¹⁷ So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel, and from his brothers, Asaph the son of Berekiah, and from the sons of Merari, their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah; ¹⁸ and with them their brothers of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers. ¹⁹ The musicians Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were appointed to play bronze cymbals. ²⁰ Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play on harps according to Alamoth; ²¹ and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to play lyres, directing according to the Sheminith.

⁴ Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, to invoke, thank, and praise the LORD the God of Israel. ⁵ Asaph was the head. Zechariah was second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed Edom, and Jeiel with harps and lyres. Asaph played the cymbals.

⁴¹ With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because His grace endures forever; ⁴² and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those making a sound, and instruments of the song of God; and the sons of Jeduthun were at the gate.

² He also gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.

⁵ Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the LORD with musical instruments I have provided for that purpose. ⁶ David divided the Levites into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. ⁷ Belonging to the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁵ And thus were they divided impartially by drawing lots; for there were officiers of the sanctuary, and officiers of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king and the princes and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar and the heads of the fathers of the priests and of the Levites, one fathers' house being taken for Eleazar and one taken for Ithamar.

³ Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD.

¹ In the seventh year, Jehoiada made himself strong, and made an agreement with the captains of hundreds, Azariah, the son of Jeroham, Ishmael, the son of Jehohanan, Azariah, the son of Obed, Maaseiah, the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat, the son of Zichri.

⁹ And Jehoiada the priest gave unto the captains of hundreds, the spears and the bucklers and the shields, which belonged to King David,—which were in the house of God.

¹³ She saw the king was standing by his pillar at the entrance. The captains and the trumpeters were beside the king. All the people of the land rejoiced and blew trumpets. The singers with their musical instruments lead the praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and said: "This is treason! Treason!"

²⁵ And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with lutes, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king`s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was of the LORD through his prophets. ²⁶ The Levites stood with David's instruments, and the priests with the trumpets.

² Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites after their divisions, every man according to his service, both the priests and the Levites, for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the LORD's camp.

¹² The men did their work faithfully under the supervision of Jahath and Obadiah; Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam descendants of Kohath. The Levites, who were skilled musicians,

¹⁰ And the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, and the priests in their apparel with the trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with the cymbals, were positioned to praise the LORD, as described by King David of Israel. ¹¹ And they sang, praising and giving thanks unto the LORD because he is good, for his mercy endures for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, praising the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

²⁴ The leaders of the Levites were: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Kadmiel's son Jeshua, along with their associates who served opposite them to give praise and thanks, division by division, according to the commands given by David the man of God.

²⁷ At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, they invited the Levites to come from wherever they lived to Jerusalem so they could celebrate the dedication with joy, thanksgiving, and songs, accompanied by cymbals, lyres, and harps.

⁴³ And on that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced. Because God had given them great joy, therefore their wives and their children rejoiced, and the joy of Jerusalem was heard at a great distance. ⁴⁴ And at that time men were appointed over the chambers of the treasures for the heave-offerings, for the first-fruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them, out of the fields of the cities, the portions assigned by the law for the priests and the Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests, and over the Levites that waited. ⁴⁵ They performed the duty of their God, and the duty of the purification, and so did the singers and the gatekeepers, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son. ⁴⁶ For of old, in the days of David and Asaph, there were the chiefs of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgivings to God.

² Sing a song and strike the tambourine. Play the sweet sounding lyre with the harp.

¹ A Psalm, A Song for the Sabbath Day. It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; ² to proclaim your gracious love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, ³ To do this on a ten-stringed instrument with a melody on a harp.

³ Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet! Praise him with harp and lyre! ⁴ Praise him with tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flute. ⁵ Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with resounding cymbals!

²⁴ But if an unbeliever or uninstructed person comes in while everyone is prophesying, he will be convicted and called to account by all, ²⁵ and the secrets of his heart will be revealed. So he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming, “God is truly among you!” ²⁶ What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a psalm or a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. All of these must be done to build up the church.

² And I saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire and, standing beside the sea of glass, those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and over the number of his name. They held harps of God ³ and they sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the ages! ⁴ Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

¹⁷ So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel, and from his brothers, Asaph the son of Berekiah, and from the sons of Merari, their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

¹ A psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have entered your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have reduced Jerusalem to ruins.

¹ Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock, you who sit above the cherubim, shine forth.

¹ To the chief musician. On Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob.

¹ God, do not keep silent. Do not keep silent, and do not be still, God.

⁶ A person will grab one of his relatives from his father's family and say: "You have a coat. You will be our leader. This pile of ruins will be under your control."

¹¹ Before David arose the next morning, the word of the LORD came to Gad, David's seer:

⁹ the LORD said to Gad, David's prophet:

⁵ And of all my sons, for the LORD has given me many sons, He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD, over Israel.

³ Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him.

¹⁸ I am here with the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who lives on Mount Zion.

¹⁶ Then David ordered the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of song, musical instruments, stringed instruments, and cymbals, raising their voices for joy.

²² Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the singing. He taught the singers, because he was skillful.

¹⁹ Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

⁸ Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

⁴¹ Therefore Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, Show the right. And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, but the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said: (Cast lots between me, and Jonathan, my son. And Jonathan was taken.

⁵ And thus were they divided impartially by drawing lots; for there were officiers of the sanctuary, and officiers of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

³¹ They drew lots as their relatives, Aaron's descendants, had done. They drew them in front of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the leaders of the families of the priests and Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same way as those of the youngest.

¹³ Lots were cast for each gate, according to their families, young and old alike.

¹⁶ The lots for the West Gate and the Shalleketh Gate on the upper road fell to Shuppim and Hosah. Guard was alongside of guard:

³³ The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.

²⁶ Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
