¹ Solomon made an alliance with the king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. He brought her to live in David's City until he finished building his palace, the Temple, and the wall around Jerusalem. ² The people were sacrificing at various high places because the temple had not yet been built and dedicated to the LORD. ³ Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father; except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. ⁴ The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. ⁵ The LORD appeared to Solomon one night in a dream and told him, "Ask me for whatever you want and I'll give it to you." ⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown great kindness to Your servant, my father David, as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept for him this great kindness, and have given to him a son sitting on his throne, as today. ⁷ Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can't be numbered or counted for multitude. ⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how shall I be able to govern this great people of yours?" ¹⁰ The LORD was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, ¹¹ And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes; ¹² "I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you. ¹³ And I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. ¹⁴ And if you go on in my ways, keeping my laws and my orders as your father David did, I will give you a long life. ¹⁵ Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the LORD's covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. ¹⁶ Then two prostitutes came to the king, and they stood before him. ¹⁷ One of them said: "Your Majesty, this woman and I live in the same house. I gave birth to a baby boy at home while she was there. ¹⁸ The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house. ¹⁹ And the son of this woman died at night, because she laid on it. ²⁰ So she got up in the middle of the night, and she took my son from beside me while your servant was asleep, and she put him in her lap, and she put her dead son in my lap. ²¹ The next morning, I got up to nurse my son, and he was dead. But when I examined him carefully in the light of day, he turned out not to be my son whom I had borne!" ²² The other woman said: "The living child is mine, and the dead one is yours!" The first woman answered back: "The dead child is yours, and the living one is mine!" They argued before the king. ²³ And the king said, This one says, This is my son, the living one, and your son the dead. And that one says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son the living. ²⁴ And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the sovereign says, Cut the living child in two; and give half to the one and half to the one. ²⁶ But the woman, whose child was alive, said to the king; (for her bowels were moved upon her child) I beseech thee, my lord, give her the child alive, and do not kill it. But the other said: Let it be neither mine nor thine; but divide it. ²⁷ The king announced his decision: "Give the living child to the first woman. Don't kill him. She is his mother." ²⁸ And when all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had given, they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to exercise justice.

⁷ David captured the fortress of Zion, the city of David.

¹ In the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the LORD's house. ² And the house which King Solomon built for the LORD, was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. ³ The vestibule on the face of the main hall of the temple was twenty cubits in its length, and the width of the temple was ten cubits wide on the face of the temple. ⁴ He made windows of fixed lattice work for the house. ⁵ And against the wall of the house he set chambers round about the temple and the ark. ⁶ The lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around, that the beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house. ⁷ The temple was constructed of stone precut at the quarry so that no hammer, axe, or any other iron implement would be heard in the temple while it was being built. ⁸ The entrance of the lowest story, was on the right side of the house,—and, by winding stairs, went they up unto the middle [story], and, out of the middle, into, the third. ⁹ So he put up the house and made it complete, roofing it with boards of cedar-wood. ¹⁰ He built the storeys against the whole house, each five cubits high: and they were attached to the house by cedar beams. ¹¹ The word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying, ¹² As for this house, which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments, walking in them, I will fulfil my word to thee, which I spoke to David thy father. ¹³ I will reside among the Israelites and will never abandon my people Israel." ¹⁴ So Solomon built the temple and finished it. ¹⁵ The inside walls were covered with cedar panels from the floor to the ceiling. The floor was made of pine.

¹ Then was Solomon thirteen years building a house for himself. ² and he builds the house of the forest of Lebanon, a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high; on four rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams on the pillars; ³ And it was covered with cedar above the beams, that lay on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row. ⁴ Set one against another, ⁵ All the doorways and doorposts had rectangular frames, with the doorways facing each other in three tiers. ⁶ The hall of pillars he made fifty cubits in its length and thirty cubits in its width, and a porch was in front of them, with pillars and an overhang in front of them. ⁷ He constructed the Judgment Hall for the throneroom where he would be ruling, paneling it with cedar from floor to ceiling. ⁸ As to his house where he lived, the other court was within the porch, as this work was. Solomon also made a house for Pharaoh's daughter whom he had taken, like this porch. ⁹ From the foundation to the roof, all these buildings, including the large courtyard, were built with high-grade stone blocks. The stone blocks were cut to size and trimmed with saws on their inner and outer faces. ¹⁰ And the foundations were of costly stones, great stones of ten cubits or eight cubits. ¹¹ Overhead were highly priced stones cut to measure, and cedar-wood. ¹² The great court around had three courses of cut stone, and a course of cedar beams; like as the inner court of the house of the LORD, and the porch of the house. ¹³ King Solomon sent for Hiram from Tyre, ¹⁴ the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, whose father was from Tyre. A bronze worker, he was wise, knowledgeable, and was skilled in all sorts of bronze working. He went to King Solomon and did all of his work. ¹⁵ He fashioned two bronze pillars, each one 27 feet high and having a circumference of 18 feet .

¹⁵ This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon conscripted to build the house of Yahweh and his house, the Millo, the walls of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. ¹⁶ Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and then gave it as a dowry for his daughter, Solomon's wife. ¹⁷ And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-choron, ¹⁸ And Baalath and Tadmor in the desert, in the land. ¹⁹ and all the store cities that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen and all that his lust was to build in Jerusalem and Lebanon and in all the land of his kingdom.

²⁴ But Pharaoh's daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her: then he built Millo.

⁷ And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David,

¹ And Solomon planned to build a house for the name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself. ² And Solomon counted seventy thousand men to bear burdens and eighty thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them. ³ And Solomon sent to Hiram the king of Tyre, saying, As you dealt with my father David, and sent him cedars to build a house to live in, also ⁴ Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, to burn before him incense of sweet spices, for the continual show bread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.

¹¹ Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the City of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy."

¹ Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance; and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage.

¹¹ And this is the answer they returned to us: 'We are servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are building the house that was built formerly many years ago, which a great king of Israel had built and finished.

¹⁴ Shall we again break your commandments and intermarry with the peoples who practice these detestable things? Would you not be angry with us until you destroy us with no remnant or remainder?

³ "Any Israelite who slaughters a bull, sheep, or goat inside or outside the camp ⁴ and doth not bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD, before the tabernacle of the LORD, blood shall be reckoned unto that man: he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people, ⁵ "This means that the people of Israel must take the sacrifices they have been making in the open fields and bring them to the LORD. They must bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. The people will sacrifice them as peace offerings to the LORD. ⁶ The priest shall sprinkle the blood on the altar of the LORD at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and burn the fat for a pleasant aroma to the LORD.

³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.

² "Destroy all the places where the nations you dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. ³ »Tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars. Burn their Asherah poles with fire. Cut down the carved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place. ⁴ You shall not worship the LORD your God like this. ⁵ ¶ But ye shall seek the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there for his habitation, and thou shalt go there.

³ "Thou knowest of David my father, how he could not build a house unto the name of the LORD his God for war which he had on every side, until the LORD had put them under his foot.

⁴³ Like his father Asa before him, he did what was right in the sight of the LORD. However the places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

⁴ "Go tell my servant David, This is what the LORD says: 'You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. ⁵ "I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another. ⁶ "In all the places where I have moved with the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"

³ But God said to me, 'You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.' ⁴ But the LORD, the God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For He has chosen Judah to be the ruler, and of the house of Judah the house of my father. And in my father's house He was pleased to make me king over all Israel. ⁵ And of all my sons, for the LORD has given me many sons, He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD, over Israel. ⁶ He said to me, 'Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

¹⁷ Even so, the people continued to sacrifice in the high places, but only to the LORD their God.

⁴⁷ But it was Solomon who built the house for Him. ⁴⁸ However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says: ⁴⁹ ‘Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or where will My place of repose be?

⁵ And you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

¹² And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

⁶ The LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

¹⁶ For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.

²⁰ to love the LORD your God, to listen to His voice, and to cleave to Him, for He is your life, and the length of your days live in the land which the LORD has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it to them.

²⁴ And David comforted his wife Bathsheba. And he went into her, and lay with her. And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the LORD loved him, ²⁵ and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.

³ You shall keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his judgments, and his testimonies, as are written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and everywhere you turn, ⁴ So that the Lord may give effect to what he said of me, If your children give attention to their ways, living uprightly before me with all their heart and their soul, you will never be without a man to be king in Israel.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown great kindness to Your servant, my father David, as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept for him this great kindness, and have given to him a son sitting on his throne, as today.

¹⁴ And if you go on in my ways, keeping my laws and my orders as your father David did, I will give you a long life.

⁴ And you, if you walk at my face, as David your father walked in integrity of heart and in straightness; to work according to all I misvah you and guard my statutes and my judgments;

⁴ When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father was.

⁶ So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not fully follow after the LORD as David his father.

³⁴ But I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose, because he kept My commandments and My statutes.

³⁸ And it will be, if you will listen to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. That I will be with you and will build you a sure house as I built for David and will give Israel to you.

³ He walked in all the sins of his father that he had done before him, and his heart was not fully with the LORD his God as the heart of David his father.

²² And if ye say to me, We rely upon the LORD our God: is it not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

⁸ Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever. ⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

³ The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and did not seek the Baals, ⁴ but sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not in the ways of Israel. ⁵ So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had much wealth and honor.

²³ O love the LORD, all you his saints: for the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully repays the proud doer.

³⁷ Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

²⁹ Jesus answered: The first is, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.'

¹⁵ If you love me you will keep my commands,

²¹ He who has my commands and keeps them — he is the one that loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will show myself to him."

²⁸ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

³ But the one who loves God is known by God.

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us. ²⁰ If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

² This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: it is by loving God and obeying his commands. ³ For this is the love of God, our keeping his commands. And his commands are not burden-some,

³ But when the Inhabiters of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho, and Ai,

² that they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

⁶³ Solomon sacrificed the fellowship offerings which he offered to the LORD: twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep; and the king and all of the Israelites dedicated the house of the LORD.

³⁹ And he left Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place at Gibeon,

³ So Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for God's Tent of Meeting was there, which the LORD's servant Moses had made in the wilderness.

⁶ Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD, which was at the Tent of Meeting, and offered one thousand burnt offerings on it. ⁷ That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.” ⁸ Solomon said to God, "You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place. ⁹ Now, LORD God, your promise to my father David is fulfilled, because you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. ¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?” ¹¹ Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was with your heart and you did not ask for wealth, possessions, honor, and the lives of your enemies, and also did not ask for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge that you might judge my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I will give you wealth and honour, such as no king has had before you or ever will have after you.

⁵ And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand cattle and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

³² The number of the burnt offerings which the assembly brought was seventy bulls, one hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. ³³ And they consecrated to the Lord six hundred oxen, and three thousand sheep. ³⁴ But the priests were few, and could not slay the whole burnt offering, so their brethren the Levites helped them, until the work was finished, and until the priests had purified themselves; for the Levites more zealously purified themselves than the priests. ³⁵ And also the burnt-offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace-offerings, and the drink-offerings for every burnt- offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was firmly established.

²⁴ for Hezekiah the king of Judah had provided one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the princes provided one thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly. And many priests consecrated themselves.

Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

¹² He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And he saw the Lord by his side, saying, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your seed this land on which you are sleeping.

⁶ He said: "Listen to my words: 'When there are prophets of the LORD among you, I make myself known to them in visions or speak to them in dreams.

⁹ The LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

²⁰ But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

³⁸ "You know not what you are asking," said Jesus. "Can you drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" ³⁹ And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; ⁴⁰ But to sit at My right or My left is not Mine to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.” ⁴¹ When the ten heard about this, they became indignant at James and John. ⁴² But Jesus called them to him, and said to them, You know that those who are regarded as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ not so with you. Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, ⁴⁴ and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." ⁴⁶ Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus, his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road. ⁴⁷ When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” ⁴⁸ Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" ⁴⁹ Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." Then they called the blind man and told him, "Courage! Get up, he is calling you." ⁵⁰ Throwing off his cloak, Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus. ⁵¹ “What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “I want to see again.”

²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

¹³ And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it."

¹⁶ It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you, and I appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that should remain, so that the Father might grant you whatever you ask in my Name.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. ⁶ But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

¹⁴ This is the confidence that we have toward him: that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

⁷ But it is not so with my servant Moses who is most faithful in all my house:

⁵ "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: "Are you the one to build for me a house for my dwelling?

⁸ "Say this to my servant David: 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture where you followed sheep so that you could be the leader of my people Israel. ⁹ I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. ¹⁰ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant it and they shall continue in one place and shall move no more, neither shall wicked people trouble them any more as they did at the beginning, ¹¹ In the manner that I appointed judges over my people Israel, I will give you rest from all your enemies. And the LORD declares to you that the LORD will build a house for you. ¹² When your days are full and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you who will go out from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

⁷ Nathan said to David, "You are the man. This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. ⁸ I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.

⁴⁷ The LORD lives. Blessed be my rock. Exalted be God, the rock of my salvation, ⁴⁸ It is God who avenges me and who brings down the peoples under me, ⁴⁹ »You protect me from violent enemies. You made me greater than all of them. ⁵⁰ Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name. ⁵¹ He gives great deliverance to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to David and to his descendants, until forever."

⁴⁸ And he said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who hath given this day one to sit on my throne, my eyes seeing it.

⁴ So that the Lord may give effect to what he said of me, If your children give attention to their ways, living uprightly before me with all their heart and their soul, you will never be without a man to be king in Israel.

⁵ For David did that which is right in the eyes of the LORD, and did not turn aside from all that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

³ "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹² Wealth and honour come from you, and you are ruler over all, and in your hand is power and strength; it is in your power to make great, and to give strength to all. ¹³ "Now, our God, we give you thanks, and we praise your glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and we have given you of your own.

⁶ I will sing to the LORD for he has been good to me.

² He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;

²⁰ the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And I have not been wicked by turning from my Elohim." ²² All his judgments are in front of me and I have not turned away from his laws. ²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ From following the suckling-ewes, he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² David shepherded them with a devoted heart, and led them with skillful hands.

⁷ Return to your rest, O soul; for the LORD has blessed you.

¹⁷ GIMEL Do good to your servant. I will live and I will obey your word.

⁵ So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you beforehand and make arrangements for the bountiful gift you had promised. This way, your gift will be prepared generously and not begrudgingly.

¹¹ You will be enriched in everything, so you can be generous, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

¹⁷ And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd.

² I am one hundred and twenty years old this day. I can no more go out and come in, and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not go over this Jordan'.

¹⁶ But all Israel and Judah loved David because he led them in battle.

² In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel out and in. the LORD said to you, 'You will be shepherd of my people Israel, and you will be prince over Israel.'”

¹ And David the king said to all the congregation, My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and tender. And the work is great, for the magnificent house is not for man, but for the LORD God.

⁶ Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answered: "I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you. ⁷ I said, 'Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.' ⁸ But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty, that giveth them understanding.

⁸ The LORD will guard your goings and comings, from this time on and forever.

¹⁶ Woe to the land whose king is a youth and whose princes feast in the morning.

⁶ I, Jeremiah, said: "Sovereign LORD, I do not know how to speak. I am only a child!"

²¹ "He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to the discerning.

²⁵ You will be driven from men. Your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will eat grass like oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven. Seven times shall pass over you until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³² You're to be driven away from people. You're to live with the wild animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like cattle, and seven years will pass you by until you realize that the Most High is sovereign over human kingdoms and grants them to whomever he desires.'

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor.

²¹ He was driven away from human society and given the mind of an animal. He lived with wild donkeys, ate grass like cattle, and his body was soaked with dew from the sky until he realized that the Most High God is sovereign over human kingdoms and places over them whomever he desires.

³ “Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

³ The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out. ⁴ When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

⁹ I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.

¹⁶ "I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust, your offspring could be counted.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

⁵ ‘If you will obey me and are faithful to the terms of my covenant, then out of all the nations you will be my own special possession, for all the earth is mine. ⁶ but you, you will belong to me as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the Israelites."

⁶ For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. the LORD your God has chosen you to be His own treasure out of all the people on the face of the earth. ⁷ The LORD did not set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: ⁸ But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bond-men, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

²² For the LORD will not forsake his people for the sake of his great name, because the LORD has decided to make you his own people.

² David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know how many there are.”

⁵ And Joab gave the sum of the census of the people to David. And in all Israel there were one million and a hundred thousand men who drew sword. And in Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men who drew sword. ⁶ But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the word of the king was repulsive to Joab.

²³ And David did not take a census of those twenty years old or under because the LORD promised to make Israel more numerous than the stars of heaven. ²⁴ Joab the son of Zeruiah began to count, but he did not finish. But wrath came upon Israel concerning this, and the number was not included in the chronicles of King David.

⁷¹ From following the suckling-ewes, he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

¹¹ But Moses said to God, "Who am I? How can I go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" ¹² God said: "I will be with you! This shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain."

¹⁰ Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” ¹¹ the LORD said to him: "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? ¹² Now go and I - I am with your mouth and direct you what to word. ¹³ Moses said, “Oh, Lord, please send someone else.”

¹⁷ Then your servant said, May the word of my lord the king give me peace! for my lord the king is as the angel of God in his hearing of good and bad: and may the Lord your God be with you!

²⁸ And when all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had given, they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to exercise justice.

¹² "May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

¹⁹ Grant to Solomon my son a heart of peace to keep your commands, your statutes, and your regulations to do everything, and to build the citadel for which I have provided."

¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?”

¹ By Solomon. God, give the king your justice; your righteousness to the royal son. ² He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

³⁴ Make me understand, and I will preserve Your law And keep it with all my heart."

⁷³ ( ι - [Yod.]) Your hands made and formed me; give me understanding, that I may learn your commands.

¹⁴⁴ Your laws are righteous forever. Give me understanding that I may live.

³ if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures, ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, ⁸ guarding the paths of the just and protecting the way of his faithful ones. ⁹ Then you will understand what is right, just, and upright every good path.

¹³ Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her. ¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peaceful. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

¹⁶ How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding instead of silver!

¹² The ear that hears and the eye that sees, the LORD has made them both.

¹¹ Wisdom together with a heritage is good, and a profit to those who see the sun.

¹⁹ Wisdom makes a wise man stronger than ten rulers in a town.

¹⁵ but there was found therein, a man, poor [but] wise, and, he, delivered the city by his wisdom,—yet, no one, remembered that poor man. ¹⁶ And I said, Wisdom is better than strength; but the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The softly spoken words of the wise are to be heard rather than the shouts of a ruler of fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.

² The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

¹⁴ But John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

³⁰ I can do nothing of myself; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not to please myself, but to please him who sent me.

¹⁴ The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. ¹⁶ To the one we are the aroma of death to death; and to the other the aroma of life to life. And who is equal to such a calling?

⁵ Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim that anything comes from us, but our competence comes from God.

¹⁷ Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

¹⁰ so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ;

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their sensibilities to distinguish good from evil.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how shall I be able to govern this great people of yours?"

⁶ Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.

³¹ Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is attained by a life of righteousness.

²¹ "What is your desire?" he asked. She said to him: "Let my two sons be seated, the one at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your kingdom." ²² "None of you know what you are asking," said Jesus. "Can you drink the cup which I am about to drink?" "We can," they replied.

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

² You crave what you do not have. You kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.

⁶ Do therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

⁹ And now, do not hold him guiltless. For you are a wise man, and you know what you ought to do to him. But bring his gray head down to the grave with blood.

²⁹ God gave Solomon wisdom and exceptional insight, and very great understanding, even as the sand that is on the seashore. ³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the surrounding nations. ³² He spoke three thousand proverbs; and his songs numbered one thousand five. ³³ He spoke of trees and plants, from the Lebanon cedars to the hyssop that grows on walls. He talked about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish. ³⁴ People of all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, sent by all kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.

¹² the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.

³ Solomon answered all her questions. Nothing was hidden from the king that he did not explain to her. ⁴ And the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he built, ⁵ the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his waiters and their attire, his cupbearers, and his stairway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, she was overwhelmed. ⁶ She said to the king: "The report I heard in my country about your acts and your wisdom was true. ⁷ But I did not believe it until I came, and my eyes have seen that not even the half was told me. Thy wisdom and good exceeds the fame which I heard. ⁸ Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom.

²³ King Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth in wealth and in wisdom. ²⁴ All the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

¹² »Praise the LORD the God of Israel, Creator of heaven and earth! He has given King David a wise son, full of understanding and skill. He now plans to build a Temple for the LORD and a palace for himself.

⁵ She told the king: "What I heard in my country about your words and your wisdom is true! ⁶ but I did not believe their words until I came and saw with my own eyes. And behold, half the greatness of your wisdom was not reported to me; you surpass the rumors that I had heard. ⁷ Happy are your men, and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, and hear your wisdom. ⁸ Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on his throne, to be king for the LORD your God: because your God loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore he made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness."

¹⁷ LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully,

¹³ I applied my mind to seek and to search by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. It is a grievous task God has given to humans.

¹⁶ I said to myself, "Look! I have become great and have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has preceded me over Jerusalem. I have acquired a great deal of wisdom and knowledge."

²⁴ "Before they call I will answer! While they are still speaking I will hear.

⁴² The queen of the south will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.

¹⁵ For I will give you speech and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. ²⁷ And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

³ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

²¹ And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute, and served Solomon all the days of his life. ²² Solomon's daily provisions were 30 kors of fine flour, 60 kors of meal, ²³ Also needed were ten stall-fed cattle, twenty pasture-fed cattle, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fowl (cuckoo). ²⁴ For he had dominion on this side of the river, and he was at peace on all sides round about.

²³ King Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth in wealth and in wisdom. ²⁴ All the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. ²⁵ Year after year, every man brought his tribute, vessels of silver, vessels of gold, clothing, armor, spices, horses, and mules. ²⁶ Solomon gathered chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses. He stationed them in the cities of the chariots and with the king in Jerusalem. ²⁷ The king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and made cedar trees as abundant as sycamore trees in the Shephelah. ²⁸ And Solomon's horses came out of Egypt from Kue: the merchants fetched them from Kue at a price. ²⁹ A war-carriage might be got from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; they got them at the same rate for all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. ¹² O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

³² He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things?

²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Kephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future-all things are yours! ²³ And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

²⁰ Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,

¹⁶ Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be made longer, and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹⁵ You must have honest weights and measuring devices, so you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is about to give you,

³ Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father; except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

⁴ And you, if you walk at my face, as David your father walked in integrity of heart and in straightness; to work according to all I misvah you and guard my statutes and my judgments; ⁵ then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, 'There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.'

¹² "May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ »You will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

¹⁷ »If you will be faithful to me as your father David was, do everything I command, and obey my laws and rules, ¹⁸ "I will establish your royal dynasty just as I said in a promise to your father David, when I said: 'You will never fail to have an heir ruling over Israel.'" ¹⁹ "But if you turn away and abandon my statutes and my commands that I have given you, and if you walk away to serve other gods and worship them,

³ The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and did not seek the Baals, ⁴ but sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not in the ways of Israel.

² He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done.

² And he did the right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of his father David, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

⁴ He asked life from you; you gave it to him— length of days forever and ever.

¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

¹² If your sons keep my covenant and my statutes that I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever."

² for they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace.

⁷ 'Thus sayeth the LORD of Hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and keep my watch: thou shalt rule my house, and keep my courts, and I will give thee place among these that stand here.

²² After removing Saul, He raised up David as their king and testified about him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after My own heart; he will carry out My will in its entirety.’

⁸ Now physical exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, holding promises for both this present life and the one to come.

⁵⁴ He offered a sacrifice on the mountain. He invited his relatives to eat the meal with him. They ate with him and spent the night on the mountain.

²⁰ On the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cup bearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

⁷ The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.

¹ "'If his offering is a sacrifice of peace offerings; if he offers it from the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. ² And he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slaughter it at the entrance of the tent of meeting; and Aaron`s sons, the priests, shall sprinkle the blood on the altar round about. <sup>3</sup> And they shall offer of the peace offering, to be a sacrifice unto the LORD: the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards; <sup>4</sup> and the two kidneys with the fat that lieth upon the loins; and the caul that is on the liver, they shall take away with the kidneys. <sup>5</sup> Aaron's sons shall burn it on the altar on the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. <sup>6</sup> " 'But if his offering for a sacrifice of fellowship offering for the LORD is from the flock, he must bring a male or a female without defect. <sup>7</sup> If he offer a lamb, he shall bring it before the LORD, <sup>8</sup> and shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slaughter it before the tent of meeting; and Aaron`s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the altar round about. ⁹ "'Take the fat from the fellowship offering and offer it by fire to the LORD. Remove all the fat from the tail and the fat that covers the internal organs. ¹⁰ and the two kidneys with the suet on them and on the loin and the lobe of the liver with the kidneys ¹¹ "'The priest must burn the offering on the altar. It is food, an offering by fire to the LORD. ¹² "'If his offering is a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD: ¹³ He shall lay his hand on its head, and kill it before the Tent of Meeting; and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ¹⁴ And he shall offer of it a burnt-offering to the Lord, even the fat that covers the belly, and all the fat that is on the belly. ¹⁵ "'Also the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys. ¹⁶ The priest shall burn them on the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma; all the fat is the LORD's. ¹⁷ This is a lasting statute for your generations in all your dwellings: you must not eat any fat or any blood.'"

¹¹ "'These are the instructions for the fellowship offering that you must bring to the LORD. ¹² If he offer to give thanks, he shall bring unto his thank offering: sweet cakes mingled with oil and sweet wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil of fine flour fried, ¹³ He shall offer his offering with the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving with cakes of leavened bread. ¹⁴ "'He will present one of every offering as a contribution to the LORD. It will belong to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings. ¹⁵ The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning. ¹⁶ "'If the sacrifice of his offering is a votive or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice as well as on the next day. ¹⁷ And what is left of the flesh of the sacrifice till the third day shall be burned with fire. ¹⁸ If any of the meat of the sacrifice of his peace offerings is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted, and it shall not be credited to him who offers it. It will be an abomination, and the soul who eats any of it will bear his iniquity. ¹⁹ And the meat that touches anything unclean must not be eaten; it must be burned with fire, and as for the clean meat, anyone who is clean may eat the meat.

¹⁷ They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. ¹⁸ David finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings. Then he blessed the people in the name of the LORD Almighty. ¹⁹ He also distributed to all the people, to the whole crowd of Israelites, men and women, one loaf of bread, one date cake, and one raisin cake. Then all the people went home.

⁶⁵ Solomon held the festival at that time and all of Israel with him, a great assembly from Lebo Hamath up to the wadi of Egypt before the LORD our God, for seven days and seven days, a total of fourteen days.

¹ And they brought the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And they offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God. ² After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD

⁷ Moreover Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the grain offerings, and the fat. ⁸ So Solomon held the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly, from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. ⁹ On the eighth day, they held a solemn assembly; for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days. ¹⁰ And on the twenty third day of the seventh month, he sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and glad of heart, for the goodness that the LORD had done to David, and to Solomon, and to His people Israel.

²² Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of the LORD. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD, the God of their fathers. ²³ Then the whole assembly decided to celebrate the festival for seven more days. So they joyfully celebrated for seven more days. ²⁴ for Hezekiah the king of Judah had provided one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the princes provided one thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly. And many priests consecrated themselves. ²⁵ Everyone in the assembly of Judah rejoiced, as did the priests, the Levites, and the people who gathered together from throughout Israel, including whose who came from the land of Israel and those who lived in Judah. ²⁶ So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was nothing like this in Jerusalem.

³ In the third year of his reign, he gave a banquet for all his officials and ministers, and the military leaders of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the provincial officials were present.

²⁶ At this, I woke up and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant.

¹ King Belshazzar held a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine with them.

²¹ But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his high officers and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.

¹³ The next day Moses sat down to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning until evening.

¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between one and another, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

²⁹ "'Do not dishonor your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the country will turn to prostitution and be filled with people who are perverted.

² They came before Moses and Eleazar the priest and the chiefs and all the people at the door of the Tent of meeting, and said,

¹⁷ "None of the daughters of the sons of Israel shall be a temple prostitute.

¹ Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men from Acacia Grove as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and spent the night there.

¹ Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior; he was the son of a prostitute, and ⌊Gilead was his father⌋.

²⁰ and said, my lord, we came indeed down the first time to buy food;

⁷ Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

¹³ These are of those who rebel against the light. They don't know its ways, nor stay in its paths. ¹⁴ With the light, riseth the murderer, He slayeth the poor and needy, And, in the night, he becometh like a thief. ¹⁵ And the eye of the adulterer waits for dusk, saying, 'No eye will see me,' and he places a covering on his face. ¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves in; they know not the light: ¹⁷ "For deep darkness is morning to all of them. They are friends with the terrors of deep darkness.

¹¹ If I say: Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me.

²⁵ but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.

²⁰ Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

⁷ She added: "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."

²³ "Do what you want," Elkanah said to her. "Stay until you have weaned him, only may the LORD bring about what you have said." So Hannah stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.

³ Even the jackals offer their breast. They nurse their young ones. But the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness. ⁴ The nursing infant's tongue sticks to the roof of his mouth for thirst. The young children ask for bread, but no one gives to them.

²³ And the king said, This one says, This is my son, the living one, and your son the dead. And that one says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son the living. ²⁴ And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king.

⁸ Do not run quickly to court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame.

³⁰ Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.

³ My heart was hot within me. While I meditated, the fire burned. I spoke with my tongue:

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her nursing child? Will she have no compassion on the child from her womb? Although mothers forget, I will not forget you.

²⁰ "Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? Indeed, as often as I've spoken about him, I surely still remember him. Therefore I deeply yearn for him. I'll surely have great compassion on him," declares the LORD.

⁸ "How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is changed within me. All my compassion is aroused.

³¹ They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless.

⁸ God is my witness how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

¹ Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,

³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,

¹⁷ If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?

³¹ And Israel saw the great hand that the LORD displayed against Egypt, and the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in Moses his servant.

¹⁴ In that day the LORD made Joshua great in the sight of all Israel. And they feared him all the days of his life, even as they feared Moses.

¹⁸ Samuel called upon the LORD that same day, and the LORD sent thunder and rain. So all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how shall I be able to govern this great people of yours?" ¹⁰ The LORD was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, ¹¹ And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes; ¹² "I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you.

²⁴ And all the officials and mighty warriors, and also all the sons of King David, pledged allegiance to King Solomon.

²⁵ And you, Ezra, in accordance with the wisdom given to you by your God, shall appoint magistrates and judges to administer justice to all the people beyond the Euphrates River. All of them are to know the laws of your God, and you are to instruct those who do not know them.

² He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

⁴ May he defend the afflicted of the people and deliver the children of the poor, but crush the oppressor.

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:

⁴⁷ The king answered Daniel and said, "Truly your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings, and he reveals mysteries, for you are able to reveal this mystery."

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and king Nebuchadnezzar your father, your father the king, made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and diviners;

²⁴ but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

³⁰ It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.
