¹ And in the seventh year of Jehu, Joash began to reign. And he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. ² And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. ³ Only, the high places were not removed: the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. ⁴ Jehoash said to the priests: »All the money of the holy things, which comes into the house of the LORD, the amount fixed for every man's payment, and all the money given by any man freely by motivation of his heart, ⁵ let the priests take it to them, each man from his donor; and they shall repair the damage to the house, wherever any damage is found.” ⁶ But, in the twenty third year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house. ⁷ Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, Why don't you repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house. ⁸ The priests agreed that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house themselves. ⁹ Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the LORD. The priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD. ¹⁰ And when they saw that there was much money in the ark, the king’s scribe and the high priest came up and counted the money that was found in the house of the LORD and guarded it. ¹¹ After recording the exact amount, they would hand the silver over to the men in charge of the work in the Temple. These would pay the carpenters, the builders, ¹² to masons and stonecutters, and for procurement of timber and quarried stone for making repairs to the LORD's temple, and for all outlays needed for repairs of the temple. ¹³ But the money was not used for making silver cups or scissors or basins or wind-instruments or any vessels of gold or silver for the house of the Lord; ¹⁴ But it was all given to the workmen who were building up the house. ¹⁵ Furthermore, they required no accounting from the men into whose hand they had paid the money to do the work, because the workers acted in good faith. ¹⁶ The money from the guilt offerings and from the sin offerings was not brought into the LORD's temple, because it was allocated to the priests. ¹⁷ At that time, Hazael king of Aram went up and fought against Gath and captured it; then Hazael set his face to go up against Jerusalem. ¹⁸ But Jehoash king of Judah took all the dedicated things that Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, and all the gold that could be found in the treasure of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and so he departed from Jerusalem. ¹⁹ And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ²⁰ His own officials plotted against him and killed him at the House of the Mound on the road that goes down to Silla. ²¹ Jehoash's officials Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, executed him. They buried him with his ancestors in the City of David. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.

²⁷ But when Ahaziah king of Judah saw it, he fled by the way of Beth Haggan. And Jehu pursued after him, and said, Slay him also. So one shot him in the chariot at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

¹ Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family. ² But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. ³ He remained with her in the temple of the LORD, hidden for six years while Athaliah was reigning over the land. ⁴ In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD. He made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's son.

²¹ Joash was seven years old when he began to reign.

¹¹ Jehoram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son,

¹ Joash was seven years old when he began his reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah. She was from Beersheba. ² And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest. ³ Jehoiada procured two wives for Joash and he had sons and daughters. ⁴ It happened after this, that Joash intended to restore the house of the LORD. ⁵ He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them: "Go to the cities of Judah, and collect money throughout Israel to repair the Temple of your God every year. Do it immediately!" But the Levites did not do it immediately. ⁶ So the king called Jehoiada the chief, and he said to him, "Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax of Moses, the servant of the LORD, and of the assembly of Israel for the tent of the testimony?" ⁷ For the sons of the wicked Athaliah had broken into the house of God and had used all the holy vessels of the house of Yahweh for the Baals. ⁸ So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of the LORD. ⁹ And they issued a proclamation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring to the LORD the tax that Moses the servant of God had levied upon Israel in the wilderness. ¹⁰ All the officials and all the people were filled with joy. They brought money and dropped it into the box until it was full. ¹¹ Whenever the chest was brought to the king's officials by the Levites, the royal secretary and the chief priests designated officer would come, empty the chest, and take it back to its place. They did this day after day until they had collected a large amount of cash. ¹² The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the LORD's house. They hired masons and carpenters to restore the LORD's house, and also those who worked iron and bronze to repair the LORD's house. ¹³ The men worked and the project progressed under the foremen's guidance. They restored God's Temple to its proper condition and reinforced it. ¹⁴ And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made articles for the house of the LORD, even articles for ministering, and for offering, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

³ And he did the right in the eyes of the LORD, but not like his father David; he did according to all that his father Joash did;

² And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

¹⁷ Now after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and paid homage to the king. And the king listened to them. ¹⁸ They abandoned the LORD's temple and the God of their fathers, and they served Asherim and idols. As a result this guilt of theirs resulted in wrath coming upon Judah and Jerusalem. ¹⁹ Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Yahweh, and they testified against them; but they would not listen. ²⁰ The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “God says, 'Why do you disobey the LORD's commandments, so that you can't prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.'” ²¹ But the people conspired against him, and at the direct orders of the king they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the LORD's temple. ²² So King Joash did not remember the loyal love that Jehoiada had shown to him, and he killed his son. And as he was dying he said, "May the LORD see and avenge!"

² And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

⁴ He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Amaziah had done.

¹⁴ But he did not remove the high places. Nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect before the Lord all his days.

⁴³ Like his father Asa before him, he did what was right in the sight of the LORD. However the places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

⁴ except that the high places were not abolished. The people continued to offer sacrifices and to burn incense on the high places.

³⁵ Only, the high places were not removed. The people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. He built the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.

⁴ He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

⁴ Moreover he commanded the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might give themselves to the law of the LORD.

²⁰ For long ago you broke your yoke and tore up your bonds. And you said, I will not transgress, when on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down like a harlot.

¹ The LORD said to Moses, ² "Tell the Israelites to take an offering for me, and you shall accept my offering from every person whose heart moves him to give.

¹² "When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, they will each give the ransom of his life for the LORD when counting them, and a plague will not be among them when counting them. ¹³ This they will give, everyone who is counted, the half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which is twenty gerahs per shekel. The half shekel is a contribution for the LORD. ¹⁴ Everyone who is numbered, from twenty years old and over, is to give an offering to the Lord. ¹⁵ The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, to give the offering of the LORD, to make atonement for your souls. ¹⁶ You shall take the atonement money from the Israelites and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting, and it shall be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD to make atonement for yourselves."

⁵ 'Take from among yourselves an offering for the LORD. Everyone whose heart is willing shall bring it as an offering for the LORD: gold, silver, and bronze;

²² All willing, men and women alike, brought all kinds of gold jewelry: pins, brooches, earrings, signet rings, and pendants. They offered these gifts of gold to the LORD.

²⁹ Each Israelite man and woman whose heart was prompted brought something as a freewill offering to the LORD for all the work which the LORD had commanded them to do through Moses.

³ They received from Moses all the offerings that the Israelites had brought for doing the work of constructing the sanctuary, and the people continued to bring freewill offerings every morning.

¹⁵ "When a person displays infidelity and he sins in an unintentional wrong in any of the LORD's holy things, then he shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD: a ram without defect from the flock as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels according to the sanctuary shekel. ¹⁶ He shall make restitution for that which he has done wrong regarding the holy thing, and shall add a fifth part to it, and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and he will be forgiven.

² Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, When a man shall make a special vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by your evaluation. ³ your valuation of a male from twenty years old to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. ⁴ And if it is a female, the value will be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if it be from five years old to twenty, the valuation of a male shall be twenty shekels, and of a female ten shekels. ⁶ And if the person is from one month to five years old, then the value for a male will be five shekels of silver, and for a female three shekels. ⁷ And if a son, sixty years and above, if a male, your appraisal, fifteen shekels and for the female, ten shekels. ⁸ »‘The person who is too poor to pay the required amount must stand in front of the priest. The priest will determine the amount based on what the person can afford.

¹² And let the priest put a value on it, if it is good or bad; whatever value the priest puts on it, so will it be. ¹³ and if the person chuse to redeem it, he shall add a fifth to the valuation. ¹⁴ "'If any man dedicate his house, it shall be holy unto the LORD. And the priest shall set it; whether it be good or bad, and as the priest hath set it, so it shall be. ¹⁵ and if he who dedicated it chuse to redeem it, he shall add thereto a fifth of the money at which it was rated, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ And if a man should hallow to the Lord a part of the field of his possession, then the valuation shall be according to its seed, fifty shekels of silver for a homer of barley. ¹⁷ If he gives his field from the year of Jubilee, the value will be fixed by your decision. ¹⁸ But if some time after, the priest shall reckon the money according to the number of years that remain until the jubilee, and the price shall be abated. ¹⁹ And if he that sanctified the field would redeem it, he shall add to its value the fifth part of the money, and it shall be his. ²⁰ "'If you do not buy it back and it is sold to someone else, it may not be redeemed. ²¹ "'When the field is released in the jubilee year, it will be holy like a field claimed by the LORD. It will become the property of the priest. ²² "'If he dedicates to the LORD a field which he has bought, which is not of the field of his possession, ²³ "'The priest must figure out the field's value until the jubilee year. You will pay its value on that day as something holy, belonging to the LORD. ²⁴ In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom he bought it, to him who owns it in the land. ²⁵ All your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs to the shekel. ²⁶ However, the first-born of an animal, which should be the LORD's first-born, no man shall sanctify it, whether an ox, or sheep, it is the LORD's. ²⁷ If it be an unclean beast, then let him redeem it as it is set at, and give the fifth part more thereto. If it be not redeemed, then let it be sold as it is rated.

³¹ If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it.

¹ Then was Solomon thirteen years building a house for himself.

¹⁸ But Jehoash king of Judah took all the dedicated things that Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, and all the gold that could be found in the treasure of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and so he departed from Jerusalem.

⁴ Go up to Hilkijah the high priest, that he may sum up the money which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have gathered of the people,

¹¹ King David dedicated these also to the LORD, along with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, from Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek.

³ And moreover, in my affection for the house of my God I have given of my own property of gold and silver, for the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary: ⁴ Three thousand talents of gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of fine silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the sanctuary; ⁵ gold for the golden things and silver for the silver things, for all the work by the hand of skilled craftsmen. Now who will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to the LORD?" ⁶ Then the leaders of the ancestral houses, and the leaders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with the officers over the king's work, offered willingly; ⁷ And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. ⁸ And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD under the authority of Jehiel the Gershonite. ⁹ Then the people rejoiced, for they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that You try the heart and are pleased with uprightness; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have offered willingly all these things; and now I have watched with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.

¹⁸ He brought into God's Temple the silver, the gold, and the utensils he and his father had set apart as holy.

⁹ And they issued a proclamation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring to the LORD the tax that Moses the servant of God had levied upon Israel in the wilderness. ¹⁰ All the officials and all the people were filled with joy. They brought money and dropped it into the box until it was full.

⁴ And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and assembled them in the east street, ⁵ And he said to them, "Hear me, O Levites! Sanctify yourselves now, and sanctify the house of the LORD, the God of your ancestors, and bring out the defilement from the sanctuary. ⁶ "Our ancestors were unfaithful and did what the LORD our God considered evil. They deserted him. They turned away from the LORD's tent and turned their backs on him. ⁷ They also shut the doors of the portico and extinguished the lamps. And they did not burn incense or offer burnt offerings in the sanctuary to the God of Israel. ⁸ That's why the LORD was angry with Judah and Jerusalem and made them an object of terror, horror, and derision, as you've seen with your own eyes. ⁹ For, see, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. ¹⁰ Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, that his fierce anger may turn away from us. ¹¹ My sons, do not be negligent now. For the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, and that you should minister to Him and burn incense.

¹² They faithfully brought in the gifts, tithes, and consecrated materials, and Connie the Levite was placed in charge of them. His brother Shimei was second in command,

² Josiah appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them to serve in the LORD's Temple.

⁶ And all of their neighbors helped them with objects of silver, gold, possessions, domestic animals, and with valuable gifts—besides all of the freewill offering.

⁶⁹ According to their fortune they gave to the treasury of the work:gold--61,000 darics, silver--5,000 minas, and tunics for priests--100.

¹⁶ together with all of the silver and gold that you can raise in the province of Babylon, plus the freewill offerings given by the people and the priests, contributed for the temple of their God, which is in Jerusalem.

²⁵ And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the articles, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered: ²⁶ I divided among them 650 silver talents, silver utensils weighing 100 talents, 7,500 gold talents, ²⁷ Also twenty bowls of gold, worth a thousand darics; and two vessels of fine polished bronze, as precious as gold. ²⁸ I said to them, "You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers.

⁴ For they all contributed out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”

²⁷ This is the reason that he rebelled against the king: when Solomon built the Millo, he closed the gap of the city of David his father.

⁵ Have them deliver it to the workmen who are supervising the LORD's temple, so that they may pay it over to the workmen who serve in the LORD's temple to repair its damages, ⁶ to the carpenters and the builders and the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

⁵ He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them: "Go to the cities of Judah, and collect money throughout Israel to repair the Temple of your God every year. Do it immediately!" But the Levites did not do it immediately.

⁷ For the sons of the wicked Athaliah had broken into the house of God and had used all the holy vessels of the house of Yahweh for the Baals.

¹² Those among you will rebuild the ancient ruins. You will raise up the age-old foundations. You will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

²⁹ Why do you despise my sacrifice and my offering which I commanded for my dwelling place, while you honored your sons more than me by making yourselves fat from the best of all the offerings of my people Israel? ³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised.

³⁴ But the priests were few, and could not slay the whole burnt offering, so their brethren the Levites helped them, until the work was finished, and until the priests had purified themselves; for the Levites more zealously purified themselves than the priests.

¹⁰ Israel's watchmen are blind. They all lack knowledge they are all mute dogs. They cannot bark. They just lie around and dream, they love to sleep. ¹¹ They are dogs with mighty appetites. They never have enough! They are shepherds who lack understanding. They all turn to their own way and each one seeks dishonest (unjust) gain. ¹² "Come, each one cries, let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better."

¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you.

²¹ For everyone else is looking out for his own interests, not for those of Jesus Christ.

² Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires.

⁴ In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD. He made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's son.

³ And Joab answered, May the LORD add to His people a hundred times, but my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? Why then does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

¹ In the seventh year, Jehoiada made himself strong, and made an agreement with the captains of hundreds, Azariah, the son of Jeroham, Ishmael, the son of Jehohanan, Azariah, the son of Obed, Maaseiah, the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat, the son of Zichri.

¹⁶ And they buried him with the kings in the City of David, because he had dealt well with Israel, and with God and his house.

⁴ The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the secondary order, and the doorkeepers to take out of the LORD's temple all of the implements that had been crafted for Baal, for Asherah, and for every star in the heavens. Then he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried the ashes to Bethel.

¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the high priest, and Zephaniah the second in order, and the three doorkeepers.

¹⁸ and with them their brothers of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.

²⁴ And Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethaneel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obededom and Jehiah were also doorkeepers for the ark.

¹⁰ For one day in Your courts is better than thousands. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God, than dwell in the tents of sinners.

⁴ And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the room of the sons of Hananiah son of Gedaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the officials, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Serayah the chief priest, and Zephanyah the priest second in rank, and the three door-keepers;

⁴¹ As Jesus was sitting opposite the treasury, He watched the crowd placing money into it. And many rich people put in large amounts.

¹ He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury,

¹⁷ Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests, Seraiah was scribe,

²⁵ Sheva was secretary, Zadok and Abiathar were priests,

²³ Naaman said, Please take two talents. He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him.

² He sent Eliakim who was over the palace, Shebna the secretary, the elders, and the priests, all clothed in sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

³ And the eighteenth year of his reign king Josiah sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam the scribe to the house of the LORD, saying, ⁴ Go up to Hilkijah the high priest, that he may sum up the money which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have gathered of the people,

¹² The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

¹¹ Whenever the chest was brought to the king's officials by the Levites, the royal secretary and the chief priests designated officer would come, empty the chest, and take it back to its place. They did this day after day until they had collected a large amount of cash. ¹² The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the LORD's house. They hired masons and carpenters to restore the LORD's house, and also those who worked iron and bronze to repair the LORD's house.

⁹ And they came to Hilkiah the high priest and gave the money that was brought for the house of God, which the Levites, the guardians of the threshold, had gathered from the hand of Manasseh, Ephraim, and from the whole remnant of Israel, and from all Judah and Benjamin and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁰ They gave the money to the foremen who were in charge of the LORD's Temple. These foremen gave it to the workmen who were restoring and repairing the Temple. ¹¹ They, in turn, paid the carpenters and builders to purchase quarried stone and timber for binders and beams for the buildings that previous kings of Judah had let deteriorate.

¹⁷ The king commanded, and they cut out large stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone. ¹⁸ And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Giblites cut out and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

⁷ They also gave money to the masons, and to the carpenters. They also gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus King of Persia.

⁸ May it be known to the king that we went to the province of Judah, the house of the great God. It is being built with stone blocks and timber is being put in the walls. This work is being done with diligence and is making progress in their hands.

⁵ As some of the disciples were remarking how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and consecrated gifts, Jesus said,

¹³ His offering was one plate of silver—its weight was one hundred and thirty shekels—and one silver bowl weighing seventy shekels according to the sanctuary shekel, both of them filled with finely milled flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ¹⁴ one golden dish weighing ten shekels filled with incense;

² "Make two trumpets of hammered silver to use for calling the people together and for breaking camp.

⁴⁸ Solomon also made all of the vessels which were in the house of Yahweh: the golden altar and the golden table on which was the bread of the presence; ⁴⁹ And the lampstands of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the inner sanctuary, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, ⁵⁰ And the bowls, and the wick trimmers, and the basins, and the ladles, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner room, the most holy place, and for the doors of the main hall of the temple.

¹⁴ And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made articles for the house of the LORD, even articles for ministering, and for offering, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.

⁹ Here is a partial inventory: Gold dishes: 30 Silver dishes: 1,000 Sacrificial knives: 29 ¹⁰ There were also 30 gold bowls, 410 matching silver bowls and 1,000 other articles. ¹¹ All the articles of gold and silver numbered 5,400. Sheshbazzar brought all of them along with the exiles who traveled from Babylon to Jerusalem.

⁷ Only they did not call them to account for the money that was given to them, because they dealt faithfully.

¹² The men did their work faithfully under the supervision of Jahath and Obadiah; Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam descendants of Kohath. The Levites, who were skilled musicians,

² I gave command over Jerusalem to my brother Hanani and Hananiah the commander of the citadel. For he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time?

¹ Jesus also said to His disciples, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.

¹⁰ Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. ¹¹ So if you have proved untrustworthy in using your ill-gotten wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

² Now it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. ³ I care very little, however, if I am judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.

⁵ Dear friend, you act faithfully in whatever you do for the brothers, even though they are strangers.

²⁴ He shall place his hand on the he-goat's head and slaughter it in the place where he slaughtered the burnt offering before the LORD; it is a sin offering.

²⁹ and lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay it in the place of burnt offerings.

¹⁵ "When a person displays infidelity and he sins in an unintentional wrong in any of the LORD's holy things, then he shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD: a ram without defect from the flock as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels according to the sanctuary shekel. ¹⁶ He shall make restitution for that which he has done wrong regarding the holy thing, and shall add a fifth part to it, and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and he will be forgiven. ¹⁷ "If anyone sins, and does any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done; though he did not know it, yet he is guilty, and shall bear his iniquity. ¹⁸ He shall bring to the priest a ram without defect from the flock as a guilt offering by your valuation, and the priest shall make atonement for him because of his unintentional wrong (although he himself did not know), and he will be forgiven.

⁷ The instruction is the same for the guilt offering as for the sin offering; it belongs to the priest, who makes atonement with it.

⁸ But if the person has no close relative to whom reparation may be made, the payment must be brought to the LORD, for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement with which he has been atoned. ⁹ Every offering of all the most sacred things of the Israelites, which they bring to the priest, will belong to him. ¹⁰ "'Each person's holy offerings will belong to that person. Everything given to the priest will belong to the priest.'"

⁸ the LORD spoke to Aaron, "Behold, I myself have given to you the responsibility of my contributions for all the holy objects of the Israelites; I have given them as a portion to you and your sons as an eternal decree. ⁹ »That part of the most holy offerings that is not burned belongs to you. It may come from a grain offering, an offering for sin, or a guilt offering. Whatever is brought to me, as a most holy offering will belong to you and your sons.

¹⁹ All the contributions of holiness that the Israelites offer to the LORD I have given to you and your sons and your daughters with you as an eternal decree; it is an eternal covenant of salt before the LORD to you and your offspring with you."

⁸ They eat up the sins of my people, and courage them in their wickedness.

² So David and the six hundred men who were with him went over to Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

³⁹ At the end of three years, two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish, son of Maacah, king of Gath. They told Shimei, saying, “Behold, your slaves are in Gath.” ⁴⁰ Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Achish, to seek his slaves; and Shimei went, and brought his slaves from Gath.

¹⁷ It shall be that the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill.

¹² "Why are you crying, sir?" Hazael asked. "Because I know the evil that you're about to bring on the Israelites," he replied. "You'll burn down their fortified cities, execute their young men with swords, dash to pieces their little ones, and you'll tear open their pregnant women!" ¹³ Then Hazael said, "But how could your servant, who is like a dog, do this great thing?" Elisha said, "the LORD has shown me that you are to be king over Aram." ¹⁴ So he left Elisha and returned to his master, who asked him, "What did Elisha tell you?" He replied, "He said to me that you would certainly get better." ¹⁵ On the next day, he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.

¹³ and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.

¹ After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

²³ And when a year was come about, the army of Syria came up against him: and they came to Juda and Jerusalem, and killed all the princes of the people, and they sent all the spoils to the king of Damascus. ²⁴ For the army of Syria came with few men, yet God gave into their hands a very large army, because they had forsaken the God of their fathers; and He brought judgments on Joash.

¹⁵ then therefore hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah. Thus says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel: "If you are determined to go to Egypt, and you go to dwell as aliens there,

⁵¹ As the time approached when he was to be taken up to heaven, he set his face toward Jerusalem,

⁵³ But the people there refused to welcome Him, because He was heading for Jerusalem.

²⁶ And he took the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; yea, he took all. And he took all the golden shields that Solomon had made.

¹⁸ Then Asa took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasure of the house of the LORD, and all the treasure of the king's house and delivered it unto his servants, and sent them to Benhadad the son of Tabrimmon the son of Hezion king of Syria that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

⁴ Jehoash said to the priests: »All the money of the holy things, which comes into the house of the LORD, the amount fixed for every man's payment, and all the money given by any man freely by motivation of his heart,

⁸ And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria.

¹⁵ Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house. ¹⁶ And at that time Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of the Lord's house, and from the door-pillars plated by him, cut off and gave it to the king of Assyria.

² But Asa removed some silver and gold from the treasuries of the Lord's temple and from his royal palace and sent them to King Ben-hadad of Aram, who lived in Damascus.

⁴¹ And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

¹⁹ And the rest of the deeds of Jeroboam — how he warred and how he reigned — are written in the book of the stories of the kings of Israel.

²⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²³ And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

⁶ All the men of Shechem and Bethmillo got together and went to the sacred oak tree at Shechem, where they made Abimelech king.

⁹ David occupied the fortress, naming it the City of David. He built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts inward.

⁵ Later on, as soon as he was in firm control of his kingdom, he executed the servants who had murdered his father the king,

²⁴ For the army of Syria came with few men, yet God gave into their hands a very large army, because they had forsaken the God of their fathers; and He brought judgments on Joash. ²⁵ When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the City of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings. ²⁶ Those who made designs against him were Zabad, the son of Shimeath, an Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad, the son of Shimrith, a Moabite woman. ²⁷ And as for his sons, the many oracles against him, and his repair of the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the scroll of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

²⁷ Now from the time that Amaziah turned away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem and he fled to Lachish. But they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.

²⁴ His officials conspired against him and killed him in his palace.

¹ In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.
