¹⁸ May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day. You know very well in how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus.

²⁰ And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, have you also brought tragedy upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

³ If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? ⁴ But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those at His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. ³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, ³⁶ I was unclothed and you clothed me, I was ill and you looked after me, I was in prison and you visited me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

⁷⁸ because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high,

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the interior and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples

²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴ and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

¹⁵ For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." ¹⁶ So then, it does not depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. ¹⁷ For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” ¹⁸ Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden. ¹⁹ One of you will say to me, “Then why does God still find fault? For who can resist His will?” ²⁰ But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” ²¹ Does not the potter have the right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for noble use, and another for common use? ²² What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction? ²³ What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—

⁸ But I will stay at Ephesus until Pentecost,

¹ Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the offering for the saints,

⁴ But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

¹⁹ For what is our hope, our joy, our crown of rejoicing in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? Is it not even you?

³ As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

¹² This is why I am suffering as I am, but I am not ashamed of it, for I know whom I have trusted and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have intrusted to him for that Day.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorous, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain;

¹² I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.

¹⁰ God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so.

¹⁰ Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who foretold the grace that would come to you, searched and investigated carefully,

¹ To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of Him who holds the seven stars in His right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
