¹ It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps over the kingdom throughout the realm, ² and over them three administrators, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king might not suffer loss. ³ Then Daniel began distinguishing himself above the administrators and the satraps because an exceptional spirit was in him, and so the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom. ⁴ Then the other administrators and satraps began to seek to find a pretext against Daniel in connection with the kingdom, but they were not able to find any pretext and corruption because he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption could be found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, "We will not find any pretext against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God." ⁶ Then these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said this, "Your majesty, live forever! ⁷ All of the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, scribes, and governors have concluded that the king should establish and enforce an edict that anyone who prays to any god or man for the next 30 days (except to you, your majesty) shall be thrown into the lions' pit. ⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed." ⁹ Then King Darius commanded the decree to be written. ¹⁰ When Daniel learned that the written document had been signed, he went to an upstairs room in his house that had windows opened facing Jerusalem. Three times a day he would kneel down, pray, and give thanks to his God, just as he had previously done. ¹¹ Then these men met together and found Daniel praying and seeking mercy before his God. ¹² So they approached the king and asked, "Didn't you sign an edict that for the next 30 days if anyone prays to any god or man, except to you, your majesty, he would be thrown into the lion pit?" The king responded, "The decree has been established, in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians that can't be repealed." ¹³ Then they said to the king, "Daniel, who is one of the Judean exiles, pays no attention to you, your majesty, or to the written decree, since he is still praying three times a day." ¹⁴ When the king heard this, he was greatly upset, because he was determined to make every effort to save Daniel before the sun set. ¹⁵ Then these men came as a group to the king and said, "Recall, O king, that with respect to the law of the Medes and Persians that any decree or edict that the king establishes cannot be changed." ¹⁶ Then the king gave orders and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions' den. And the king said to Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually will himself deliver thee. ¹⁷ And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signet ring of his princes that the agreement concerning Daniel might not be changed. ¹⁸ Then the king retired to his palace to spend the night fasting. He enjoyed no entertainment, and he couldn't sleep. ¹⁹ Then the king rose up in the dawn, in the daylight, and hurried to the lions' den. ²⁰ And when he drew near to the den, he cried out with a loud voice, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lion's mouth? ²¹ And Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever! ²² "My God sent his angel, and shut the lions' mouths. They did not hurt me. I was found innocent before him. I have done no wrong before you, O king." ²³ The king was very happy. He commanded that they take Daniel out of the den. So Daniel was taken out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he trusted in his God. ²⁴ Then the king gave orders to bring those men who had tried to have Daniel devoured, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions' pit. They had not reached the floor of the pit before the lions had overtaken them and crushed all their bones. ²⁵ Afterward, King Darius wrote to all peoples, nations, and languages who lived throughout his realm: "May great prosperity be yours! ²⁶ "I hereby decree that in every area of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, who endures forever. His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed, and his dominion continues forever. ²⁷ He helps and delivers, and works signs and wonders in the heaven and on the earth, who has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions. ²⁸ So Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

²¹ "You shall look for capable men among the people, men who fear God, men of integrity who hate dishonest gain. You shall set these men over them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. ²² They shall judge the people at all times. Let them bring every major matter to you, but let them judge every minor matter. It will lighten your burden, and they'll bear it with you.

¹ This is what happened during the reign of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who ruled over 127 provinces from India to Cush.

³¹ and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom at the age of 62.

¹⁴ or to governors who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.

³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised.

²² Be careful that you not be slack doing so. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

⁴ I and my people have been sold to be destroyed and killed, to be annihilated. If we had been sold as male and female slaves I would have kept quiet, because this is not a need sufficient to trouble the king."

¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

⁶ Like cutting off feet or drinking violence, so is he who sends messages in the hand of a fool.

⁴⁸ Then the king promoted Daniel to a high position and lavished many great gifts on him, including making him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief administrator over the advisors of Babylon. ⁴⁹ Moreover, Daniel requested that the king appoint Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained in the royal court.

¹⁶ However, I've heard that you can provide meaning and interpretation, and that you can solve difficult problems. If you are able to read the writing and report its meaning, you will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will become the third highest ruler in the kingdom."

²⁹ Then Belshazzar gave orders to clothe Daniel in purple, to place a chain of gold around his neck, and to proclaimed him the third highest ruler of the kingdom.

²³ Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a king, who was minded to settle accounts with his servants.

² So he called him in to ask, ‘What is this I hear about you? Turn in an account of your management, for you cannot be manager any longer.’

¹³ He called ten of his servants and gave them ten coins. He said to them, 'Invest this money until I come back.' ¹⁴ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ ¹⁵ When he returned from procuring his kingship, he summoned the servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what each one had earned. ¹⁶ The first servant came and said, 'Sir, your coin has earned ten more coins.' ¹⁷ "'Well done, good servant,' he replied; 'because you have been faithful in a very small matter, be in authority over ten towns.' ¹⁸ then the second came, and said, Lord, your pound has produc'd five more. ¹⁹ The king said to him, 'You take charge of five cities.' ²⁰ Then another servant came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have laid away in a piece of cloth. ²¹ for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' ²² He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? ²³ Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, and upon coming I would have collected it with interest?’ ²⁴ And he said to those standing by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' ²⁵ ‘Master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ ²⁶ 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. ²⁷ But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"

² Now it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find any man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God? ³⁹ Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all of this known to you there is no one as discerning and wise as you. ⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and to your word all my people shall submit. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you." ⁴¹ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have put you over all the land of Egypt.

² I gave command over Jerusalem to my brother Hanani and Hananiah the commander of the citadel. For he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.

³ For Mordecai the Jew was second to king Xerxes and towering among the Jews and held dear by many of his brothers; he sought after the good for his people and spoke up for the welfare of all his seed.

³ Do not let kindness and truth leave you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. ⁴ So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

²⁷ He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.

¹³ Then I saw that wisdom is better than foolish ways--as the light is better than the dark.

¹² because Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, was found to have a more excellent spirit and greater knowledge and understanding interpreting dreams, unraveling questions, and dissolving doubts. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show thee the interpretation.

¹⁴ I've heard about you, that a spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, discernment, and extraordinary wisdom.

²³ At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went out, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

¹⁸ And the men were afraid when they were brought into the house of Joseph. And they said "We were brought here on account of the money that was returned to our sacks the first time, that he might attack us and fall upon us to take us as slaves with our donkeys."

⁴ His father and mother did not know that this was from the LORD; he was seeking for an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling in Israel.

¹⁴ And David had great success in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

⁴ Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Don't let the king sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you and he has worked well for you; ⁵ For he put his life in his hand and killed the Philistine and the LORD worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?

¹⁴ Ahimelech answered the king, "Who among all your officials is as faithful as David? He is the king's son-in-law, the captain of your bodyguard, and he's honored in your household.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth his teeth against him. ¹³ the Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.

³² The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ the LORD will not leave him in his hand or let him be condemned when he is judged.

²⁷ A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.

⁴ And I saw all labor, and all the diligent work, that this is a man's envy from his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

¹⁸ Then they said, “Come! Let's devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won't perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let's strike him with the tongue, and let's not give heed to any of his words.”

²³ Yet, the LORD, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Don't forgive their iniquity. Don't blot out their sin from your sight, Let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.

¹⁰ Indeed, I hear many people whispering, "Terror on every side. Denounce him, let's denounce him!" All my close friends watch my steps and say, "Perhaps he will be deceived, and we can prevail against him and take vengeance on him."

⁸ Therefore at this time some astrologers came forward and they denounced the Jews.

⁴ and they plotted to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

¹⁸ For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over.

²⁰ Keeping a close watch on Him, they sent spies, who pretended to be innocent, so that they might latch on to some thing He said, so as to hand Him over to the power and the authority of the governor.

² The Chief Priest and the Teachers of the Law were looking for an opportunity of destroying Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.

¹⁴ and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him. ¹⁵ Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death.

⁴ Once again Pilate came out and said to the Jews, “Look, I am bringing Him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against Him.”

¹² But I will keep on doing what I am doing, in order to undercut those who want an opportunity to be regarded as our equals in the things they boast about.

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world

¹⁴ So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their homes, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach.

⁸ and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned, that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.

¹² Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.

¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler. ¹⁶ But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear this name.

¹⁷ to David, "You are more righteous than I am, because you have treated me well even though I've treated you poorly.

⁸ Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, "There is a certain people scattered and divided among the people throughout the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws are different than all the other people, they don't obey the king's laws, and it's not in the king's best interest to leave them alone.

⁶ When the high priests and the officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" Pilate told them, "You take him and crucify him. I find no basis for a charge against him." ⁷ The Jews answered Pilate, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die because he made himself out to be the Son of God."

¹³ and they cannot prove to you the charges they are now bringing against me. ¹⁴ I do confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets, ¹⁵ and I have the same hope in God that they themselves cherish, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. ¹⁶ Therefore I strive always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

²⁰ or these men themselves should say what crime they found when I stood before the Sanhedrin, ²¹ unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”

³ I said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad when the city of my ancestors' burial site is ruined and her gates are consumed by fire?"

⁶ They conspire and lurk, watching my steps. They are eager to take my life.

³ How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down, like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?

² Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil; ³ who sharpen their tongues like swords, and aim their bitter words like arrows, ⁴ to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear. ⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?" ⁶ They plot injustice, saying, We have made a perfect plan! Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

⁴ Then spoke the Chaldeans to the king in Aramaic, O king, live forever: tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

⁹ They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever.

¹⁰ The queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house. The queen spoke and said, “O king, live forever; don't let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your face be changed.

¹¹ Then these men met together and found Daniel praying and seeking mercy before his God.

²¹ And Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever!

²³ "Why, what crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they kept on furiously shouting, "Let him be crucified!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “You shall bear the responsibility.” ²⁵ All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children."

²³ But they kept shouting the more insistently, demanding that he should be crucified, and their shouts won the day. ²⁴ So Pilate decided to grant their demand. ²⁵ He released the one who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

²² The crowd listened to Paul until he made this statement. Then they lifted up their voices and shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He is not fit to live!” ²³ As they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the air,

² When Paul had been called in, Tertullus opened the prosecution: “Because of you, we have enjoyed a lasting peace, and your foresight has brought improvements to this nation.

² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One.

⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.

³ For lo, they lie in wait for my soul, mighty ones gather against me; not for my transgression, and not my sin, O LORD.

⁴ They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

¹ God, do not keep silent. Do not keep silent, and do not be still, God. 2 For, behold, your enemies roar; they who hate you lift their head; ³ They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.

²⁰ Can wicked rulers be allied with you? They frame mischief by decree (the law).

² Then he summoned the regional authorities, governors, deputy governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all of the other administrators of the provinces, ordering them to come to the dedication of the statue that he had erected.

⁶ "Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace."

¹¹ Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into a blazing fire furnace.'

²⁷ The satraps, the viceroys, the governors, and the royal advisors gazed at those men and saw that the fire had no effect on their bodies not a hair on their head was singed, their clothes were not burned, and they did not smell of fire.

² and over them three administrators, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king might not suffer loss. ³ Then Daniel began distinguishing himself above the administrators and the satraps because an exceptional spirit was in him, and so the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom.

⁵ My people, remember, I pray, what Balak, king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam, son of Beor, answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of the LORD."

¹² The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey.

¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out and conspired to kill Jesus.

¹ Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin devised a plan. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate.

¹⁰ So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,

⁵ The next day the rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, ⁶ and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. ⁷ They had Peter and John brought in and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?”

²⁶ The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His Anointed One.’ ²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, ²⁸ They carried out what Your hand and purpose had decided beforehand would happen.

¹⁹ If it seems good to the king, let a royal decree go out from him and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media, which cannot be repealed, that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Ahasuerus. Let the king give her royal position to another woman who is better than she.

¹² Then on the thirteenth day of the first month, the king's scribes were summoned. They put in writing Haman's orders to all the king's captains and the rulers of every division of his kingdom and the chiefs of every people. It was to be for every division of the kingdom in the writing commonly used there, and to every people in the language which was theirs. It was signed in the name of King Ahasuerus and stamped with the king's ring.

³ And Esther spoke again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and wept, and besought him to do away the evil of Haman the Agagite, and his device which he had devised against the Jews.

⁸ Now, in the name of the king, you write what seems good to you concerning the Jewish people, and seal it with the king's signet ring, for a document written in the king's name and sealed with the king's signet ring cannot be revoked."

¹⁰ He wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed it with the king's signet ring. He sent the letters by couriers on horseback, riding steeds especially bred for the king.

¹ Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees;

¹² So they approached the king and asked, "Didn't you sign an edict that for the next 30 days if anyone prays to any god or man, except to you, your majesty, he would be thrown into the lion pit?" The king responded, "The decree has been established, in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians that can't be repealed."

¹⁵ Then these men came as a group to the king and said, "Recall, O king, that with respect to the law of the Medes and Persians that any decree or edict that the king establishes cannot be changed."

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: if laid on the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. ¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression. Do not become vain in robbery. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

⁹ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

³ Don’t put your trust in princes, in a son of man in whom there is no help.

² If you have been trapped by words of your mouth, Have been seized by sayings of your mouth,

²² Stop trusting in man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he?

³⁰ Listen to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Yes, hear in heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.

³⁸ Whatsoever prayer and supplication be made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall know every man the affliction of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:

⁴⁴ »When your people go to war against their enemies, they pray to you, O the LORD, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I built for your name.

⁴⁸ and return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who captured them; and pray to you toward the land you gave their fathers - the city you chose and the house I built for your name: ⁴⁹ then in heaven, the place where you live, hear their prayer for mercy. Do what is right for them. ⁵⁰ »Forgive your people, who have sinned against you. Forgive all their wrongs when they rebelled against you. Cause those who captured them to have mercy on them.

⁵⁴ When Solomon had finished all this prayer and supplication to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord [for he had kneeled down on his knees and spread forth his hands towards heaven]

¹³ (for Solomon had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, and five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the middle of the court; and he stood on it, and knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven)

³⁸ if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity where they captured them; and pray in the way of the land you gave their fathers and the city you chose and the house I built for your name:

⁵ At the time of the evening sacrifice, I arose from my discouragement. Still in my torn garment and robe, I fell to my knees with my hands outstretched to the LORD my God,

¹¹ But I said, "Should a man like me run away? And would a man like me go into the temple so that he can save his life? I will not go in!"

⁷ But I, in the abundance of Your grace, I will come into Your house; I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple.

¹ In the LORD, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain." ² For lo, the wicked bend their bow, they arrange their arrow upon the string, to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.

¹ I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

¹⁷ Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress. He will hear my voice.

³ Have mercy on me Lord, for I call on you all day long.

⁶ Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

¹³ Then they said to the king, "Daniel, who is one of the Judean exiles, pays no attention to you, your majesty, or to the written decree, since he is still praying three times a day."

⁴ I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'

²⁸ Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. ³⁰ And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. ³¹ So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. ³² Everyone who will acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge him before my Father in heaven; ³³ and whoever will disown me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

⁴ I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him! ⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. ⁷ And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. ⁸ "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. ⁹ But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.

²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.

⁴¹ And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed,

¹ When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. ² Suddenly, a sound like the roar of a mighty windstorm came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

¹⁵ These men are not drunk as you suppose, for it is only nine in the morning.

¹ One day Peter and John were going up together for the hour of prayer, at three in the afternoon,

¹⁷ But to keep this message from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” ¹⁸ Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than God.

²⁹ And now, Lord, consider their threats, and enable Your servants to speak Your word with complete boldness,

²⁰ “Go, stand in the temple courts and tell the people the full message of this new life.”

²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than man.

⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and they called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. ⁴² Every day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they did not stop teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

⁴⁰ Then Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down and prayed, and turning toward her body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up.

⁹ Around noon the next day, while they were on their way and coming close to the town, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

²⁴ But I consider my life of no value to myself, if only I may finish my course and complete the ministry I have received from the Lord Jesus—the ministry of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

³⁶ When Paul had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.

⁵ But when our time there had ended, we set out on our journey. All the disciples, with their wives and children, accompanied us out of the city and knelt down on the beach to pray with us.

¹⁴ For this reason I kneel before the Father

¹⁴ also, most of the brothers in the Lord have been influenced by my chains to be much bolder, to speak the Word fearlessly.

²⁰ I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have complete boldness, so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

¹⁷ And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

¹⁷ Pray continually! ¹⁸ give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

¹⁶ Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

¹⁵ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹³ "I know where you live, where Satan has his throne. Yet you are clinging to my name and have never renounced your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful martyred witness, who was put to death among you, right where Satan lives,

⁶ Then these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said this, "Your majesty, live forever!

⁸ Therefore at this time some astrologers came forward and they denounced the Jews. ⁹ They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever. ¹⁰ You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image; ¹¹ Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into a blazing fire furnace.' ¹² There are men, Jews, whom you have set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, do not heed you. They do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

⁸ Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed."

¹⁹ But when her owners saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the authorities,

²⁴ On receiving this order, he placed them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

² When Paul had been called in, Tertullus opened the prosecution: “Because of you, we have enjoyed a lasting peace, and your foresight has brought improvements to this nation. ³ In every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, we acknowledge this with all gratitude. ⁴ But so as not to detain you unduly, I would request that you be kind enough to hear us briefly. ⁵ We have found this man to be a nuisance, stirring up dissension among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes, ⁶ and he even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him.

⁸ By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges of which we accuse him." ⁹ The Jews supported his accusations by asserting that these things were true.

⁶ Now among these were, of the Judeans, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

²⁵ Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said: I have found a man among the captives of Judah who will make known to the king the interpretation.

¹² There are men, Jews, whom you have set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, do not heed you. They do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

¹³ Daniel was brought before the king. The king spoke to Daniel: "Are you that Daniel, one of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

⁷ and Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying there is another king, named Jesus!”

²⁸ When David heard this afterwards, he said: "I and my kingdom are innocent before the LORD forever for the blood of Abner the son of Ner. ²⁹ Let it fall upon the head of Joab, and upon all his father's house. And let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.

¹³ Then ordered Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and ‘Abed-nego. Then were these men brought before the king.

¹⁷ So when the crowd had assembled, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” ¹⁸ For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over. ¹⁹ While Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered terribly in a dream today because of Him.” ²⁰ But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death. ²¹ “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they replied. ²² “What then should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify Him!” ²³ "Why, what crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they kept on furiously shouting, "Let him be crucified!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “You shall bear the responsibility.”

²⁶ The king was overwhelmed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her.

¹³ Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, ¹⁴ and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him. ¹⁵ Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death. ¹⁶ Therefore I will punish him and release him."

¹⁸ But they all cried out in unison: “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” ¹⁹ (Barabbas had been imprisoned for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) ²⁰ Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again, ²¹ But they kept on shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"

⁷ The Jews answered Pilate, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die because he made himself out to be the Son of God." ⁸ When Pilate heard this he was even more afraid. ⁹ and he went back into the Praetorium. “Where are You from?” he asked. But Jesus gave no answer. ¹⁰ "Do you refuse to speak even to me?" asked Pilate; "do you not know that I have it in my power either to release you or to crucify you?" ¹¹ Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin.” ¹² From then on, Pilate tried to release him, but the Jews kept shouting, "If you release this fellow, you're not a friend of Caesar! Anyone who claims to be a king is defying Caesar!"

²⁰ Can wicked rulers be allied with you? They frame mischief by decree (the law). ²¹ They gather together against the righteous, condemning the innocent to death.

³⁹ I am weak today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May the LORD reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.”

¹⁹ From six troubles he will deliver you, and in seven evil shall not touch you.

³⁹ The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ the LORD helps them and delivers them. He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take put their trust in Him.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. ¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. ⁹ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

²⁵ The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the LORD is kept safe.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

¹⁴ Look, I'm in your hands, so do with me what you think is good and right.

⁵ King Zedekiah said, "Look, he's in your hands, and the king can do nothing to you."

¹⁵ "Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, zither, pipes, and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, good! But if you do not worship it you will be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace that same hour. What god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"

¹⁷ "If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace. He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke up and said: 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! He sent his angel to deliver his servants who trusted in him. They disobeyed the king's command and were willing to risk their lives in order not to serve or worship any god except their own God.

⁷ All of the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, scribes, and governors have concluded that the king should establish and enforce an edict that anyone who prays to any god or man for the next 30 days (except to you, your majesty) shall be thrown into the lions' pit.

²⁰ And when he drew near to the den, he cried out with a loud voice, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lion's mouth?

⁸ Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." ⁹ The king was grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that her wish be granted ¹⁰ he sent and had John beheaded in the prison,

²³ "Why, what crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they kept on furiously shouting, "Let him be crucified!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “You shall bear the responsibility.” ²⁵ All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children." ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas for them, and he had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified.

²⁵ Immediately the girl hurried back to the king with her request, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter." ²⁶ The king was overwhelmed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her. ²⁷ So he immediately sent one of the guardsmen with orders to bring John's head. The soldier went and beheaded him in the prison ²⁸ and brought back his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.

¹⁴ "Why, what crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they vehemently shouted, "Crucify Him!" ¹⁵ And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.

¹² From then on, Pilate tried to release him, but the Jews kept shouting, "If you release this fellow, you're not a friend of Caesar! Anyone who claims to be a king is defying Caesar!" ¹³ When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat on the judgment seat at a place called the Stone Pavement, which in Aramaic is Gabbatha. ¹⁴ (it was the day of Preparation for the passover, about noon). "There is your king!" he said to the Jews. ¹⁵ At this, they shouted, “Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!” “Shall I crucify your King?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” replied the chief priests. ¹⁶ Then Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus,

²⁷ After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Since Felix wanted to do the Jews a favor, he left Paul in prison.

⁹ But Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?"

¹¹ "If I am a wrongdoer, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I do not refuse to die. But if charges brought against me by the Jews are not true no man has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar."

²³ This night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood by me ²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise:

⁵³ They have cut off my life in the pit, and cast a stone at me.

⁶⁰ and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut into the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance to the tomb and went away. ⁶¹ Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb. ⁶² The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and Pharisees assembled before Pilate. ⁶³ “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while He was alive that deceiver said ‘After three days I will rise again.’ ⁶⁴ So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last deception would be worse than the first.” ⁶⁵ “You have a guard,” Pilate said. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” ⁶⁶ So off they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the boulder and setting the guard.

⁴ He arrested him and put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out to the people after the Passover.

²³ after they had been severely lash'd, they were thrown into prison, the jayler being charg'd to keep them safe. ²⁴ On receiving this order, he placed them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground. ¹⁷ The elders of his household stood over him to lift him up from the ground, but he was not willing, and he did not eat any food with them.

²⁴ Meanwhile, Saul's grandson Mephibosheth also went out to greet the king. He had not taken care of his feet, trimmed his mustache, or washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he returned safely.

²⁷ When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

¹ On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the flute.

⁴ You hold my eyes from closing: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

² On the willows there we hung our harps,

⁸ I also gathered silver and gold to myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got men singers and women singers for myself, and the delights of the sons of men, a wife and very many wives.

⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers.

¹ In the second year of his reign Nebuchadnezzar dreamed a dream, and his spirit was amazed, and his sleep departed from him.

⁴ lying on ivory beds, stretching out on your couches, eating lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall, ⁵ "You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments. ⁶ who drink bowls of wine, and they anoint with the best of oils; but they are not grieved for the breaking of Joseph!

³ And Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the Word of the LORD. And Nineveh was a very great city of three days' journey. ⁴ And Jonah began to enter a day's journey into the city. And he cried out and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown! ⁵ And the men of Ninive believed God and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least. ⁶ The news reached the king of Nineveh and he arose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he cried out and said in Nineveh by the decree of the king and his great ones, saying, Do not let man or beast, herd or flock taste anything; do not let them feed, nor drink water. ⁸ but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth and cry mightily unto God; and let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. ⁹ Who knows? God may relent and change his mind and turn from his blazing anger so that we will not perish."

²² The sound of harpists and musicians, flute-players, and trumpets will never be heard in you again. No craftsman of any kind will ever be found in you again, no sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again;

¹ After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

² Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they went to the tomb.

¹³ I had no peace of mind because I did not find my brother Titus [there]. So, I said “good-bye” to them and went on to Macedonia.

⁵ For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.

¹⁴ Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round and Sarah will have a son.

²³ The LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not."

¹⁵ "But if you kill all these people at the same time the nations who have heard these reports about you will say, ¹⁶ "the LORD was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them, so he slaughtered them in the desert.

¹¹ Seek ye the LORD and his strength, seek his face always.

¹⁴ But I will always have hope. I will praise you more and more. ¹⁵ My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I don’t know its full measure. ¹⁶ I will come in to tell the mighty deeds of Sovereign LORD. I will make known your righteousness, yours only. ¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth: and to this day have I declared your wondrous works. ¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come.

²³ But I am always with You; You have held me by my right hand.

¹¹² My heart is ever ready to keep your rules, even to the end.

² I will praise the LORD while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I am still alive.

¹⁷ Do not let your heart envy sinners, but only be in the fear of the LORD all the day. ¹⁸ for there is surely a future life, and what you hope for will not be cut off.

¹⁷ Ah, Sovereign LORD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and stretched out arm. Nothing is too great for You.

²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke up and said: 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! He sent his angel to deliver his servants who trusted in him. They disobeyed the king's command and were willing to risk their lives in order not to serve or worship any god except their own God. ²⁹ "Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut into pieces. Their houses shall be made a dunghill. There is no other god that is able to deliver like this."

¹⁶ Then the king gave orders and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions' den. And the king said to Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually will himself deliver thee.

²⁷ He helps and delivers, and works signs and wonders in the heaven and on the earth, who has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.

⁶ So you, return to your God; guard grace and justice, and look to your God always.

³⁷ for nothing is impossible with God.

¹ Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.

⁴ and we will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.

⁷ To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.

¹⁰ He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. In Him we have placed our hope that He will yet again deliver us,

² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful,

¹² This is why I am suffering as I am, but I am not ashamed of it, for I know whom I have trusted and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have intrusted to him for that Day.

¹⁶ At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. ¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

²⁵ Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.

²⁵ But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.

²⁴ Now to Him who is able to keep them from stumbling and to present them before His glorious presence without fault and with exultation—

¹⁵ For I was, stolen, out of the land of the Hebrews,—and, even here, had I done nothing, that they should have put me in the dungeon,

¹⁶ When we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.

³⁷ David said, the LORD who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go; and the LORD be with you.

⁹ David said to Saul, Why do you listen when men say 'David is trying to harm you?'. ¹⁰ Look, today your eyes have seen how the LORD had delivered you into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you; I said, I will not lift up my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD's anointed. ¹¹ »My master, look at this! The border of your robe is in my hand! I cut off the border of your robe and did not kill you. You should know and be able to see I mean no harm or rebellion. I have not sinned against you! But you are trying to ambush me in order to take my life.

¹⁸ Why does my lord pursue his servant? What have I done? What evil am I guilty of?

⁷ In my distress I called upon the LORD, yea, I called unto my God; and out of His temple He heard my voice, and my cry did enter into His ears.

²¹ The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, some of his own offspring killed him there with the sword.

¹ A song of David, which he sang to the LORD on the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, I seek refuge in You; save me from all who pursue me, and deliver me; ² Or else he will tear me apart like a lion, ripping to pieces, with none to deliver. ³ O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause,

¹⁹ So he brought me out to a spacious place. He delivered me because he delighted in me. ²⁰ the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And I have not been wicked by turning from my Elohim." ²² All his judgments are in front of me and I have not turned away from his laws. ²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence: so will I go about your altar, O LORD:

¹⁴ But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God."

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

²¹ O LORD, do not forsake me! O my God, do not be far from me;

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways. ¹² they will bear you up in their hands, so that you won't dash your foot against a stone. ¹³ You will tread upon the lion and the viper. You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.

²⁸ You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God, I will exalt you.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

²³ The king was very happy. He commanded that they take Daniel out of the den. So Daniel was taken out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he trusted in his God.

⁷ But as for me, I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

⁴⁶ About the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?”

¹⁷ Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene went and told the disciples: I have seen the Lord! And she told them that he had said these things to her.

¹¹ Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from Herod’s grasp and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.”

¹⁶ Therefore I strive always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

⁸ Then Paul made his defense: “I have committed no offense against the law of the Jews or against the temple or against Caesar.” ⁹ But Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?" ¹⁰ But Paul said, "I am standing before Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well. ¹¹ "If I am a wrongdoer, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I do not refuse to die. But if charges brought against me by the Jews are not true no man has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar."

²³ This night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood by me

¹² And this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in relation to you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

³³ who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and obtained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,

¹⁹ —yes, by this we know that we are of the Truth and may put our hearts at ease in His presence, ²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

⁹ Jethro rejoiced over all the good that the LORD had done for Israel in delivering them from the hand of the Egyptians.

⁷ When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.”

²⁰ They were helped in fighting them, and God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.

¹¹ Then Huram king of Tyre answered in a letter, and he sent word to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them." ¹² »Praise the LORD the God of Israel, Creator of heaven and earth! He has given King David a wise son, full of understanding and skill. He now plans to build a Temple for the LORD and a palace for himself.

²⁰ They rose early in the morning, and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, so you will be established! Believe his prophets, so you will prosper.”

⁴⁰ the LORD helps them and delivers them. He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take put their trust in Him.

³ Don’t put your trust in princes, in a son of man in whom there is no help. ⁴ When they stop breathing, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans evaporate! ⁵ Blessed is he whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God: ⁶ who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, the one who keeps faith forever,

¹⁰ The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you.

²⁵ He said: "Look, I see four men walking in the midst of the fire. They are not hurt! The appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!"

²⁷ The satraps, the viceroys, the governors, and the royal advisors gazed at those men and saw that the fire had no effect on their bodies not a hair on their head was singed, their clothes were not burned, and they did not smell of fire. ²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke up and said: 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! He sent his angel to deliver his servants who trusted in him. They disobeyed the king's command and were willing to risk their lives in order not to serve or worship any god except their own God.

¹⁴ When the king heard this, he was greatly upset, because he was determined to make every effort to save Daniel before the sun set.

¹⁸ Then the king retired to his palace to spend the night fasting. He enjoyed no entertainment, and he couldn't sleep.

²³ “If You can?” echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!”

¹⁸ "The judges must make a thorough investigation. If it is found that the witness lied when he testified against the other Israelite, ¹⁹ then work to him as he intrigued to work to his brother: thus you burn the evil from among you. ²⁰ "When other people hear about this, they will be afraid. Never again will such an evil thing be done among you.

¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children for the fathers, but every one shall die for his own sin,

²⁴ Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his cattle and donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and everything that was his, and they brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ Joshua said: "Why have you troubled us? the LORD will trouble you this day." All Israel stoned them with stones. After they stoned them they burned them with fire.

⁶ but the children of the murderers he put not to death: according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin

¹⁰ Then they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. And the king's fury subsided.

¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the vexer of the Jews. But they did not lay their hands on the spoil.

²⁵ But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

⁵ He will repay my enemies for their evil; in your faithfulness destroy them.

⁸ The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.

¹³ I leveled my soul until morning. Like a lion, so He shatters all my bones. From day until night You make an end of me.

²² Then, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

¹ In the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia, to fulfil the word of the LORD from the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD aroused the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, and he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, moreover also in writing, saying: ² "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

¹⁷ The king sent a reply: "To Rehum the royal officer, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their associates who live in Samaria and the rest of the province Beyond the River, greetings. And now

⁹ Then the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month Sivan, on the twenty-third day of the month; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the satraps, and the governors and officials of the provinces which are from India to Ethiopia, one hundred twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews in their writing, and in their language.

¹ ¶ King Nebuchadnezzar, to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

² who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling with his blood: may grace and peace be yours in abundance.

² May grace and peace be yours in abundance through full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord!

² May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance!

²⁶ For what mortal man has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire like we did, and lived?

²⁶ David asked the men who were standing by him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? Indeed, who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

³⁶ Your servant killed both the lion and the bear. And this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.

⁸ Moreover I make a decree what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the River, expenses must be given with all diligence to these men, that they not be hindered. ⁹ And that which they need, both young bulls and rams and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of Heaven; wheat, salt, wine, and oil, as say the priests in Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail, ¹⁰ so that they may offer sacrifices of sweet odor to the God of Heaven, and pray for the life of the king and of his sons. ¹¹ And I have given orders that if anyone makes any change in this word, one of the supports is to be pulled out of his house, and he is to be lifted up and fixed to it; and his house is to be made waste for this; ¹² May the God who has set his name there overthrow any king or people who sets his hand to alter or to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, issue forth a decree. Let it be done with diligence."

¹² Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of heaven, all peace; ¹³ From me was rendered a decree, that all the ones willing in my kingdom from the people of Israel, and priests, and Levites, to go to Jerusalem—with you let them go!

¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

¹⁰ the LORD sat enthroned over the flood. the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.

¹ The LORD reigns. He is clothed with majesty. The LORD is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can't be moved. ² Your throne is established from long ago. You are from everlasting.

¹ the LORD reigns! Let the nations tremble. He sits enthroned between the cherubim: let the earth be moved. ² Great is the LORD in Zion, And exalted is He over all the peoples." ³ Let them praise your great and awesome name! He is holy.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you. I am afraid of your judgments.

¹² To make known to the children of men his mighty acts, and the glorious splendour of his kingdom. ¹³ Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. the LORD is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

¹⁰ The LORD will reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

² And my hand has made all these things, and all these came to be," declares the LORD, "but I look to this one: to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word.

¹⁰ But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king. Because of his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his anger.

⁴⁴ “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

²⁹ "Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut into pieces. Their houses shall be made a dunghill. There is no other god that is able to deliver like this."

³ How great are his signs! How mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. His dominion is from generation to generation.

³⁴ "At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven and my understanding returned to me. I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored the one who lives forever. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

¹⁴ And there was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

²⁷ And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, will be given to the people of the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and all dominions will serve and obey him.

¹⁰ The number of the children of Israel will be like the sand of the sea that cannot be measured or counted; and in the place where it is said to them, "You are not my people," it will be said to them, "Children of the living God."

⁶ For I, the LORD, do not change. Therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

³³ and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!”

⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!

²⁵ Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

²⁶ "And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"

⁹ For they themselves report what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God

¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath. ¹⁸ Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

¹⁷ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

¹⁰ the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

¹⁴ The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

¹⁵ "But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction.

⁴⁸ He saves me from my enemies. You lift me up above my opponents. You rescue me from violent people.

⁵⁰ He gives great victories to his king. He shows mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his descendants forever.

⁷ You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

¹⁷ Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, my precious life from the lions.

¹⁰ You who love the LORD, hate evil. He protects the lives of his faithful; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

¹⁹ »You are great in counsel and mighty in deed. Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men. You give to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds. ²⁰ who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as it is today;

² It gives me great pleasure to tell about the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. ³ How great are his signs! How mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. His dominion is from generation to generation.

¹⁷ And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; ¹⁸ they will pick up snakes with their hands; even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and they will place their hands on the sick, and they will recover."

⁷⁴ to be redeemed from the hand of our enemies; and that we should worship before him, without fear, ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

³⁰ as You stretch out Your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.”

⁸ We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the hardships we encountered in the province of Asia. We were under a burden far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. ¹⁰ He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. In Him we have placed our hope that He will yet again deliver us,

⁴ God also testified about it with signs, wonders, and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit given according to his will.

²² In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia. He sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom, and also put it in writing. He said:

²⁸ "'I say of Cyrus: 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please. He will say of Jerusalem, 'Let it be rebuilt,' and of the Temple, 'Let its foundations be laid.'"

²¹ And Daniel continued even unto the first year of King Cyrus.

¹ In the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia, a message was revealed to Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar). The message was trustworthy and concerned a great conflict. He understood it and had insight concerning the vision.
