¹¹ They also said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you took us out to die in the desert? What have you done to us, by bringing us out of Egypt?

⁶ Israel asked: "Why have you made trouble for me by telling the man you had another brother?"

²² Moses returned to the LORD, and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

²³ When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water because it tasted bitter. That is why the place was called Marah (Bitter Place). ²⁴ So the people murmured against Moses—saying, What are we to drink?

² all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron. ³ The Israelites said to them: "If only the LORD had allowed us to die in Egypt! There we sat by our pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted! You brought us out into this desert to let us all starve to death!"

² Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?" ³ The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"

¹ Now the people complained about hunger speaking evil in the ears of the LORD, so that when the LORD heard it, his anger flared and the fire of the LORD burned against them and even consumed the outskirts of the camp.

¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

¹ Upon this, all the congregation, raising their voices, shouted aloud, and ² All the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly said to them: Oh that we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness. ³ Why is the LORD bringing us to this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones shall be taken as plunder. Is it not better for us to return to Egypt? ⁴ They said to each other: "Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt."

⁴¹ The next day all the community of the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of the LORD!"

⁷ Our fathers in Egypt did not understand your wonders. They did not remember your abundant kindnesses. But they rebelled by the Red Sea. ⁸ But He saved them for His name's sake, to make His mighty power known.
