¹⁸ For if the inheritance depends on the Law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God freely granted it to Abraham through a promise.

⁶ O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones. ⁷ He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. ⁸ He remembered his covenant forever, the word he commanded to a thousand generations. ⁹ Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; ¹⁰ He presented it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant. ¹¹ saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance; ¹² When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

⁴² For He remembered His holy word and His servant Abraham;

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not keep His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. ¹⁹ You will again have compassion on us. You will tread our iniquities under foot. You will throw all our sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

⁵⁴ He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful, ⁵⁵ toward Abraham and his offspring for ever, as he spoke to our fathers.

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ the oath that He swore to our father Abraham;

¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, ¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

¹⁷ Now if we are children, we are heirs heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

²¹ I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the Law, Christ died for nothing.”

¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

¹² The Law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The one who does these things will live by them.”

¹⁶ The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ.

²⁶ You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

¹² Then you will not be sluggish, but will imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. ¹³ When God made His promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ He said: "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants." ¹⁵ And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what [God] had promised.
