¹⁴ "Let there be the girl to whom I say: 'Please let down your jar so that I may drink,' and who answers: 'Drink, and I will water your camels also.' May she be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown loving-kindness to my master."

⁸ He said, Sovereign LORD, how will I know that I will inherit it?

⁴⁴ and she will tell me, 'Drink, and I will also draw for your camels' - let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son.

¹ Moses answered, "But, look, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'" ² The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod." ³ the LORD said: "Throw it on the ground." When Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran away from it. ⁴ the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail. He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. ⁵ “This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” ⁶ Again the LORD said to him, "Put your hand into your bosom." He put his hand into his bosom and as soon as he brought it out it was leprous, like snow. ⁷ Then God said, "Put your hand back into your bosom." He returned it to his bosom and as soon as he brought it out, it was restored like the rest of his skin. ⁸ "Then if they don't believe you and respond to the first sign, they may respond to the second sign. ⁹ But if they don't believe even these two signs, and won't listen to you, then take some water out of the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you took from the Nile will turn into blood on the dry ground."

¹⁷ He said to Him, If now I have found grace in Your eyes, then show me a sign that it is really You Who talk with me.

³⁷ I will place a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and all of the ground is dry, I will know that you will deliver Israel by my hand, just as you have said."

¹³ When Gideon arrived, he heard a man telling a friend about a dream. He was saying: "I dreamed that a loaf of barley bread rolled into our camp and hit a tent. The tent collapsed and lay flat on the ground." ¹⁴ His friend answered him and said, "This cannot be anything except the sword of Gideon son of Jehoash, a man of Israel; God has given Midian and the entire camp into his hand." ¹⁵ When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation he worshiped God. He returned to the camp of Israel, and called out: »Arise! the LORD has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.«

⁵ They said to him, Please enquire of God to find out whether our journey will be successful.

⁷ "Now get a new cart ready for two dairy cows that have never been yoked. Hitch the cows to the cart. Take their calves away and leave them in their stall. ⁸ "Take the Ark of the LORD and put it on the cart. Put the gold objects that you are giving him as a guilt offering in a box beside the Ark. Send the cart on its way. ⁹ If it goes up to its own territory, to Beth Shemesh, then He has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not His hand that struck us; it was a chance that happened to us.

² When you leave me today, you will find two men by Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah. They'll tell you, 'The donkeys you went to look for have been found. Now your father has stopped worrying about the donkeys and he's anxious about you. He's asking, 'What shall I do about my son?' ³ »You will go from there until you find the oak tree of Tabor. You will see three men going up to God to Bethel. One will have three young goats and another three cakes of bread and another a skin full of wine: ⁴ They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will accept from them. ⁵ After this, you will come to the Gibeah of God, where there are sentries of the Philistines. Just as you enter the town there, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place, with harp, tambourine, flute, and zither before them, and they will be prophesying. ⁶ The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you'll prophesy with them and be changed into a different person. ⁷ When these signs come to you, do for yourself what your hand finds to do, for God will be with you. ⁸ "Go ahead of me to Gilgal. I will come to sacrifice burnt offerings and make fellowship offerings. Wait seven days until I come to tell you what to do." ⁹ When Saul had turned to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all those signs happened that day. ¹⁰ When they went from there to Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them.

⁸ Then Jonathan said, Now we will go over to these men and let them see us. ⁹ If they say to us, 'Stay there until we come to you,' then we will stay where we are and not go up to them. ¹⁰ But if they say, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up, for Yahweh has given them into our hand, and this will be the sign for us."

⁷ "If he says: 'It is well. I will be safe.' But if he becomes angry, you will know that he is determined to harm me.

²⁴ When you hear the sound of marching coming from the tops of the balsam trees, then be sure to act quickly, since the LORD will have gone out ahead of you to cut down the Philistine army.

⁹ Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the house of the LORD the third day? ⁹ So Isaiah replied, "This will be your sign from the LORD that the LORD will do what he has promised. Shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?" ¹⁰ Then Hezekiah said: "It is an easy matter to have the shadow go forward ten steps. So have it go back ten steps." ¹¹ So Isaiah cried out to the LORD, who brought the shadow back ten steps after it had gone down the stairway of Ahaz.

¹⁴ House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

¹¹ "Ask the LORD your God for a sign. Ask it in the deepest depths or in the highest heights."

¹⁰ in my prayers at all times, asking that now at last by God’s will I may succeed in coming to you.
