¹⁵ Hath he not counted us as strangers, and sold us, and eaten up the price of us?

¹⁵ Then Laban said to Jacob, "Just because you are my brother should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wage should be." ¹⁶ Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. ¹⁷ Leah had soft eyes and Rachel was shapely and very beautiful. ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel, and said, I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel. ¹⁹ Laban answered: "It is better that I give her to you than to anyone else. Stay here with me." ²⁰ So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they appeared to him as a few days, because he loved her.

²⁷ Fulfil the week [with] this one: then we will give thee the other one also, for the service that thou shalt serve me yet seven other years. ²⁸ Jacob did that. He finished the week with Leah. Then Laban gave his daughter Rachel to him as his wife. ²⁹ Laban gave his slave Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her slave. ³⁰ Jacob slept with Rachel too. He loved Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for Laban another seven years.

²⁶ "Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you. Let me depart. For you know how much service I have done for you."

⁴¹ Thus have I been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flocks: and you have changed my wages ten times.

⁷ "If a man sell his daughter to be a servant: she shall not go out as the menservants do. ⁸ If she's displeasing to her master who selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He does not have the right to sell her to foreign people because he has dealt unfairly with her. ⁹ If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her as a daughter. ¹⁰ If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights. ¹¹ If he doesn’t do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money.

⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, which were sold to the heathen; and will you even sell your brothers? or shall they be sold to us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
