¹¹ In the streets they cry out for wine. Joy turns to gloom and rejoicing is banished from the earth.

⁶ Give strong drink to the perishing, And wine to the bitter in soul,

²² and they will look to the earth; and behold, trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into thick darkness.

¹⁹ By the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is troubled, and the people shall be as fuel for the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

¹⁰ Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards. No one sings or shouts in the vineyards! No one treads out wine at the presses, for I have put an end to the shouting.

⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh; ⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers.

¹³ On the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yes, on all the houses of joy in the joyous city:

³³ "'Joy and gladness are taken from the fruitful orchards and fields and from the land of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the wine presses. No one walks on the grapes with shouts of joy. There are shouts, but they are not shouts of joy.

¹⁴ The elders have gone from the gate, the young men from their music. ¹⁵ The joy of our heart ceased; our dance was turned to mourning.

¹⁴ They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.

¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

¹⁶ Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of the Heavenly Armies, the Lord, says: "There will be dirges in all of the streets; and in all of the highways they will cry out in anguish. They will call the farmer to mourning and those who lament to grieve. ¹⁷ And there shall be wailing in all vineyards; for I will pass through you, says the LORD. ¹⁸ "Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD. Why do you long for the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light. ¹⁹ It will be as if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall and a snake bit him. ²⁰ Will not the Day of the LORD be darkness, and not light pitch black at that, without a ray of sunshine?"

¹¹ "When the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. ¹² ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless. ¹³ Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot and throw him outside into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.
