¹⁷ for the LORD our God brought us and our ancestors from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and did these great signs before our eyes. He protected us along the entire way that we went, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.

⁴ 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt and how I bore you on eagles' wings and I brought you to me.

You possessed their land, and I destroyed them from before you. ⁹ Then Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab, went up to war against Israel; and he sent for Balaam, the son of Beor, to put a curse on you: ¹⁰ But I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand. ¹¹ 'Next, you crossed the Jordan River and arrived at Jericho. But the citizens of Jericho fought you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and the Jebusites, so I gave them into your control. ¹² I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow. ¹³ I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you didn't build, and you live in them. You eat of vineyards and olive groves which you didn't plant.' ¹⁴ "So now, revere the LORD and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness; remove the gods that your ancestors served beyond the river and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

⁴ Even to your old age I am the same, and to your grey hairs I will carry you: I have made you, and I will bear: I will carry and will save.

⁷ The kindnesses of the LORD will I mention, the praises of the LORD, according to all which the LORD requites us, and the vast good to the house of Israel which He requites them, according to His compassions, and according to His many kindnesses." ⁸ He said: They are my people, sons who will not lie to me. So he became their Savior. ⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old. ¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. Therefore he turned and became their enemy, and he himself fought against them. ¹¹ Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying, “Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among them?” ¹² Who caused his glorious arm to be at Moses' right hand? Who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name? ¹³ Who led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, so that they didn’t stumble? ¹⁴ As the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused them to rest. So you led your people to make yourself a glorious name.

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, who was as tall as cedars and was as strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath. ¹⁰ And I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.
