¹ Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us; look, and see our reproach." ² Our inheritance has been turned to aliens, our houses to foreigners. ³ We are become orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. ⁴ We pay for water with money, our wood comes to us at a price. ⁵ Our pursuers are on our necks; we are weary, and have no rest. ⁶ We have submitted to the Egyptians and to the Assyrians, to get enough bread. ⁷ our fathers sinned and are not; and we bear their perversities: ⁸ Servants rule over us, and there is no one to free us from their hands. ⁹ We fetched our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the desert. ¹⁰ Our skin is hot like an oven because of the scorching famine. ¹¹ Women have they ravished in Zion, virgins, in the cities of Judah. ¹² Princes were hung by their hands; elders were shown no respect. ¹³ The young men grind at the mill; the boys stagger under loads of wood. ¹⁴ The elders have gone from the gate, the young men from their music. ¹⁵ The joy of our heart ceased; our dance was turned to mourning. ¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! ¹⁷ Because of this our hearts are feeble; for these things our eyes are dark; ¹⁸ Because of Mount Zion which is desolate, foxes prowl about it." ¹⁹ You, O LORD, remain forever; your throne from generation to generation. ²⁰ Why do you keep on forgetting us? Why do you forsake us so long? ²¹ Restore us to you, O LORD, that we will be restored; renew our days as of old. ²² unless you have completely rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.

³ They replied to me, "The survivors in the province who have survived the captivity are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned in the fire."

⁸ Please, remember the word that you have commanded to your servant Moses, saying, 'If you act unfaithfully I will scatter you all among the nations.

⁴ “Hear, our God; for we are despised. Turn back their reproach on their own head. Give them up for a plunder in a land of captivity.

⁷ Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will not return to see good.

⁹ "'Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again?

¹³ Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours; a scoff and derision to those around us. ¹⁴ You made our defeat a proverb among the nations so that people shake their heads at us. ¹⁵ My shame is always before me, and the shame of my face has covered me: ¹⁶ at the taunt of one who reproaches and verbally abuses, because of the enemy and the avenger.

¹⁰ How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach? Shall the enemy provoke Your name forever? ¹¹ Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand? Take it out of your pocket and consume them.

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbours; A scoff and a derision to them around us.

¹² Pay back our neighbors seven times the reproach with which they reproached you, LORD.

⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples, ⁵¹ With which your enemies have mocked, LORD, with which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one.

³ Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. ⁴ For long enough have men of pride made sport of our soul.

¹⁵ Thou knowest—O the LORD Remember me and visit me and avenge me upon my persecutors, Do not of thy longsuffering, take me away,—Know—I have borne for thy sake, reproach.

²⁰ See O LORD, that distress is mine; my bowels, they are in turmoil; My heart is overturned within me, for I have rebelled, yea rebelled; Outside the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death."

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: 'Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?'

²⁰ ( ψ - [Resh.]) Look, LORD, and take note: To whom you've done this? Should women eat their offspring, the children they have cuddled? Should priests and prophets be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

¹⁹ Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

⁶¹ You have heard their insults, LORD, and all their plots against me.

² LORD, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Renew your work in the midst of the years. In the midst of the years make it known. In wrath, you remember mercy.

⁴² Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

³⁰ You'll be engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You'll build a house but you won't live in it. You'll plant a vineyard but you won't harvest it. ³¹ Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and you will be looking on longingly for them all day, but you will be powerless to do anything. ³³ A people whom you don't know will devour what your land and labor produces. You'll be only oppressed and discouraged continually ³⁴ so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad. ³⁵ The LORD shall strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with painful boils that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot unto the top of your head. ³⁶ "the LORD will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out to the field, and you shall gather in little; for the locusts will devour it. ³⁹ You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor harvest, because worms will eat them. ⁴⁰ You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you won't anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. ⁴¹ You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. ⁴² »Locusts will take over all your trees and the fruit of your land. ⁴³ The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail. ⁴⁵ All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn't listen to the LORD your God's voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you. ⁴⁶ They will be for a sign and for a wonder to you and to your offspring forever. ⁴⁷ "Because you didn't serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly, despite the abundance of everything you have, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ "the LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you will not understand, ⁵⁰ A hard-faced nation, who will have no respect for the old or mercy for the young: ⁵¹ And it shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, calves of your herds, and lambs of your flock until it has destroyed you. ⁵² "They will blockade all your cities until the high, fortified walls you trust come down everywhere in your land. They will blockade all the cities everywhere in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. ⁵³ "Because of the hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade, you will eat the flesh of your own children, the sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you. ⁵⁴ "The kindest and most sensitive man among you will become stingy toward his brother, the wife he loves, and the children he still has left. ⁵⁵ »He will give none of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all that he has left. These are hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade of all your cities. ⁵⁶ "The kindest and most sensitive woman among you, so sensitive and tender that she would not even step on an ant, will become stingy toward the husband she loves or toward her own son or daughter. ⁵⁷ She will eat her afterbirth and her newborn children secretly since there will be nothing left on account of the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you in your cities." ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, the LORD your God, ⁵⁹ then he will inflict extraordinary plagues on you and your children, great and lasting plagues, and severe and lasting illnesses. ⁶⁰ "He will bring all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded. They will cling to you. ⁶¹ "the LORD will also bring you every kind of sickness and plague not written in this Book of the Law. They will continue until you are dead. ⁶² "You were at one time as numerous as the stars in the sky. But only a few of you will be left. This is because you did not obey the LORD your God. ⁶³ Just as the LORD delighted to prosper and increase you, so now the LORD will delight to destroy, exterminate, and banish you from the land that you are about to enter to possess." ⁶⁴ "He'll scatter you among the peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you'll serve other gods made of wood and stones, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. ⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. ⁶⁶ You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, If only it was evening! And at evening you will say, If only morning would come! Because of the fear in your hearts and the things which your eyes will see. ⁶⁸ Finally, the LORD will bring you back to Egypt by ship, a place that I said you'll never see again. There you'll try to sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you."

¹ A psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have entered your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have reduced Jerusalem to ruins. ² They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, and the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth.

⁷ Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers eat it up in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

¹⁷ Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture, and kids will eat the ruins of the rich.

¹⁸ For a little while Your holy people possessed it. Our enemies have trampled Your sanctuary.

¹² "Their houses will be turned over to others their fields and wives together when I stretch out my hand against those who live in the land," declares the LORD.

²¹ '"I will hand it all over as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, and they will defile it.

²⁴ '"I will bring the wicked of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.

¹³ Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.

²⁴ and My wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

⁸ I'll make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At noontime I'll send a destroyer against the mother of a young man. I'll cause terror and anguish to come to her unexpectedly.

²¹ Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widows. Let their men be killed and their young men struck by the sword in battle.

³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses. We shall not say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods! For in You the fatherless finds mercy.

⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.

¹ For look, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water;

⁹ "Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the three hundred and ninety days you lie on your side. ¹⁰ "Weigh out eight ounces of food for each day and eat it at set times. ¹¹ »You will also have a limited amount of water to drink, two cups a day. ¹² And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with human excrement in their sight. ¹³ And the LORD said, Even so shall the sons of Israel eat their defiled bread among the nations, where I will drive them. ¹⁴ Then I said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Behold, my soul has not been polluted; for from my youth up even until now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself, or is torn of animals. No abominable meat has come into my mouth!” ¹⁵ So God said: "Very well. I will let you use cow dung instead. You can bake your bread on that." ¹⁶ Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and in dismay: ¹⁷ so that they will lack food and water, and they will be appalled with one another, and they will waste away because of their guilt.

⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. ⁶⁶ You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival.

³⁶ Behold, we are slaves today, even the land that You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are slaves in it. ³⁷ But now its abundant produce belongs to the kings whom you placed over us because of our sin. They also have power over our bodies and our herds at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

² This is what the Lord has said to me: Make for yourself bands and yokes and put them on your neck;

⁸ If a nation and kingdom does not serve him King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and does not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I'll judge that nation with the sword, with famine, and with plague," declares the LORD, "until I've completely destroyed it by his hand.

¹¹ But as for that nation which puts its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and becomes his servant, I will let that nation keep on in its land, farming it and living in it, says the Lord. ¹² I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah using words like these: "Bring your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon. Serve him and his people, and you will live!

¹⁴ For so says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And they shall serve him. And I have given him the beasts of the field also.

¹⁴ My rebellion was bound as a yoke, with his hand it was fastened together; it was put on my neck and caused my strength to fail. The Lord gave me into the hands of those whom I cannot withstand.

¹⁹ Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the sky. They chased us on the mountains, they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

¹⁰ Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?

² And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh,

¹⁵ And he left there and found Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. And he greeted him and said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it is, give your hand. And he gave his hand. And he took him up to him into the chariot.

¹ "Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin, ² They are setting out to go down to Egypt, without having consulted me; to be assisted by Pharao and protected by the Egyptians. ³ For the protection by Pharaoh will be to you for shame, and the ones relying upon Egypt for scorn. ⁴ For his officials are at Zoan, and his envoys reach to Hanes. ⁵ "Everyone will be ashamed because of a people who cannot help them. They cannot help. They can only offer shame and reproach." ⁶ An oracle of the animals of the Negev: Through a land of trouble and distress, of lioness and lion, among them are snake and flying serpent; they carry their wealth on the backs of male donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! ² Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against those who help evildoers. ³ Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.

⁹ You went to the king with oil, and increased your perfumes, and sent your ambassadors far off, and debased yourself even to Sheol.

¹⁸ Now what do you gain by going to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or why do you to go on the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?

³⁶ Why do you go about so much, ever changing your way? You will be shamed by Egypt, just as you were shamed by Assyria.

¹² I'll take the remnant of Judah that determined to go to the land of Egypt to settle there, and all of them will come to an end in the land of Egypt. They'll fall by the sword, and they'll come to an end by famine. They'll become a curse, an object of horror, ridicule, and scorn. ¹³ "I will punish those who live in Egypt, just as I punished Jerusalem with the sword (war), starvation, and disease. ¹⁴ Of the remnant of Judah that came into the land of Egypt to settle there, no one will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah where they long to return and live. Indeed, they won't return, except for some refugees.

¹⁵ Shout against her all around: she has submitted herself; her towers are fallen, her walls are thrown down; for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her.

¹⁸ Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, see, he had given his hand, and has done all these things, he shall not escape.

¹³ When Ephraim saw his disease and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to the great king; but he is not able to make you well or give you help for your wound.

¹¹ Ephraim was like a dove, silly, ⌊without sense⌋; they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

³ They will not live in the LORD's land Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.

¹ Ephraim herds the wind and is pursuing the east wind all day long; he multiplies deception and violence and he makes a treaty with Assyria, and oil is brought to Egypt.

¹³ Then they said, We your servants are twelve brothers, sons of one man in the land of Canaan; the youngest of us is now with our father, and one is dead.

³⁶ Jacob, their father, said to them, "You have bereaved me of my children. Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me."

⁵ You shall not bow down to them in worship or serve them; because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of the parents, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me,

⁸ The eye of him who sees me will see me no longer: your eyes will be looking for me, but I will be gone.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my guilt? For now I shall lie in the dust, and you will seek me, but I will be no more."

²⁰ the LORD, we acknowledge our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.

¹² And you have done more evil than your fathers. For, behold, you each one walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, without listening to Me.

¹⁵ Thus says the LORD: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.

²⁹ "In those days people will no longer say, 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, but the children's teeth have been set on edge.'

² "What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel: 'The fathers eat sour grapes, but the children's teeth are set on edge?'

⁵ Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever?

³² Fill up, then, the measure of the sins of your fathers. ³³ You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape the sentence of hell? ³⁴ Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and others you will flog in your synagogues and persecute in town after town. ³⁵ And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ I tell you truly all this will come on this generation.

²⁵ And he said, "Cursed be Canaan, a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers."

⁴³ The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower.

¹⁹ But Sanballat the Horonite, the Ammonite servant Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab heard it, and they mocked and despised us, saying, "What is this thing that you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?"

¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

⁴ His children are far from safety, and are crushed in the gate, with none to deliver them.

⁷ »‘You know that I am not guilty and that no one can force me from your hand!

² Or else he will tear me apart like a lion, ripping to pieces, with none to deliver.

²² "Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver.

²² For a servant when he is king, a fool when he is filled with food,

¹³ Yea, from this day I am He, and no one delivers from My hand. I will work, and who will reverse it?

¹⁰ And now I will make her shame clear before the eyes of her lovers, and no one will take her out of my hand.

⁶ For I will have no more pity for the people of the land, says the Lord; but I will give up everyone into his neighbour's hand and into the hand of his king: and they will make the land waste, and I will not keep them safe from their hands.

¹¹ The angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak that was at Ophrah that belonged to Jehoash the Abiezrite; and Gideon his son was threshing wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites.

¹⁷ And he said, Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went at the risk of their life? and thus he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

⁹ Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, "Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. ¹⁰ As for me, look, I am staying at Mizpah to represent you before the Chaldeans who come to us. But you, gather wine and summer fruit and oil, and put them in your vessels, and live in your towns that you have seized." ¹¹ All the Jews who were in Moab, Ammon, Edom, and in all the other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a few survivors in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah, son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, to govern them. ¹² came to Godolias into the land of Juda to Massepha, and collected wine and summer fruits in great abundance, and oil.

¹ In the seventh month Ishmael son of Nethaniah and grandson of Elishama, a descendant of the royal family and of the king's officers went with ten men to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. They ate together at Mizpah. ² Then Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, got up, and attacking Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, put to death him whom the king of Babylon had made ruler over the land. ³ Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah as well as the Babylonian soldiers that he found there. ⁴ The day after the murder of Gedaliah, before anyone knew about it, ⁵ eighty men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria came with their beards shaved, their clothes torn, and their bodies slashed. They had grain offerings and incense with them to present at the LORD's temple. ⁶ Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, left Mizpah to meet them. He was crying as he went. When he met them, he said to them: "Come to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam." ⁷ When they came into the city, Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, and his men slaughtered them and threw them into a cistern. ⁸ Ten men from the group pleaded with Ishmael: "Do not kill us! We have wheat, barley, olive oil, and honey hidden in the country." So he left them alone and did not kill them along with the others. ⁹ The cistern where Ishmael threw all the bodies of the men he had killed was the same one that King Asa made as a part of his defense against King Baasha of Israel. Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, filled it with the bodies. ¹⁰ Then Ishmael took captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah, the daughters of the king and all the people who were left at Mizpah, over whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. And Ishmael took them captive and set out to cross over to the Ammonites.

¹⁸ Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them; because Ishmael the son of Nethanyah had slain Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land.

¹⁴ Then you say: "We will go to Egypt, where we will not have to see war, hear the sound of a ram's horn, or be hungry. We will stay there."

¹⁶ the sword that you fear will overtake you there in the land of Egypt. The famine that you dread will pursue you into Egypt, and there you will die.

¹⁸ Son of man, take your food with shaking fear, and your water with trouble and care; ¹⁹ "Then say to the people of the land: 'The Sovereign LORD says concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel, They will eat their bread with anxiety and drink their water with horror, because their land will be stripped of its fullness on account of the violence of all who live in it.

³⁰ "My skin grows black on me and my bones burn with fever.

⁸³ For I am like a wineskin in the smoke; I do not forget Your Precepts.

⁴ He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones.

⁸ Now their appearance is blacker than soot, they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled on their bones, it has become dry like wood.

¹⁶ Their infants also will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses will be rifled and their wives ravished.

² I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem, to lay siege against it. The city will be captured, the houses will be ransacked, the women raped, and half of the city will go into exile, but the remaining people will not be cut off from the city.

⁶ I was angry with my people, I profaned my inheritance, and gave them into your hand: you showed them no mercy; on the aged you have very heavily laid your yoke.

⁶ At Riblah, the king of Babylon executed Zedekiah's sons right before his eyes. He also executed all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Then he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him with bronze fetters to take him to Babylon.

¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and he also slaughtered all the officials of Judah at Riblah. ¹¹ And he put out Zedekiah's eyes; and the king of Babylon, chaining him in iron bands, took him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.

²⁵ From the city he also took an army commander, seven men who had access to the king whom he found in the city, the scribe who was in charge of the militia, and sixty common people whom he found in the city. ²⁶ Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was taken prisoner away from his land.

¹⁰ The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground and are silent; they send up dust on their heads; they gird on sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.

¹⁶ The LORD himself has scattered them; he will no more regard them. They did not respect the priests, they did not favor the elders.

¹¹ So the Egyptians put slave masters over them in order to oppress them through forced labor. They built Pithom and Rameses as supply (storage) cities for Pharaoh.

¹¹ Years later, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people, and took notice of their heavy burdens. He saw an Egyptian beating up a Hebrew, one of his own people.

⁵ and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the slave girl who operates the hand mill, along with the firstborn of the animals.

⁵ If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, do not leave him, you shall surely help him with it.

²¹ And the Philistines seized him, gouged his eyes, and brought him to Gaza. They tied him up with bronze shackles, and he became a grinder in the prison.

¹ And a cry of the people and their wives will be great against their brethren the Jews. ² Yes, they who say, We, our sons and our daughters, are many; and we take crop to eat and live. ³ Others were saying, "We're having to mortgage our fields, our vineyards, and our homes so we can buy grain during this famine." ⁴ And others there were that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards. ⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. We are powerless, and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

¹⁰ then may my wife grind another man's grain, and may other men sleep with her.

² Take the millstones and grind flour. Remove your veil, lift up your skirt, uncover your legs, and wade through the rivers.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke

⁴ They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

¹⁸ "Appoint judges and officers for your tribes in every city the LORD your God gives you. They are to judge the people fairly.

⁷ "When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square, ⁸ The young men saw me, and went away, and the old men got up from their seats; ⁹ Nobles would resfrain from speaking, covering their mouths with their hands. ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me: ¹² For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ "I was a father to the needy! I championed the cause of the stranger. ¹⁷ I broke the fangs of the wicked, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹ "But now they mock me; men who are far younger than I, whose fathers I've would have hated to entrust with my own sheep dogs.

³¹ And my lyre has turned to mourning, and my flute to the sound of weeping.

² Hero and man of war, judge and prophet, And diviner and elder, ³ the captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the clever enchanter.

⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh; ⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers. ¹⁰ The ruined city lies desolate. The entrance to every house is barred and none may enter. ¹¹ In the streets they cry out for wine. Joy turns to gloom and rejoicing is banished from the earth.

³⁴ "I will cause the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem. The land will become a ruin."

⁹ For the Lord of armies, the God of Israel, has said, See, before your eyes and in your days I will put an end in this place to the laughing voices and the voice of joy; to the voice of the newly-married man and the voice of the bride.

¹⁰ "I will take from them the sounds of joy and happiness, the sounds of brides and grooms, the sound of mills, and the light of lamps.

⁴ The roads of Zion mourn without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

¹⁹ I called for my lovers, but they deceived me. My priests and my elders perished in the city, while they searched for food to refresh their souls.

¹³ "'So I will silence the sound of your songs, and the sound of your harps will be heard no more.

²² The sound of harpists and musicians, flute-players, and trumpets will never be heard in you again. No craftsman of any kind will ever be found in you again, no sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again;

¹¹ You have turned my wailing into my dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy

⁴ lying on ivory beds, stretching out on your couches, eating lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall, ⁵ "You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments. ⁶ who drink bowls of wine, and they anoint with the best of oils; but they are not grieved for the breaking of Joseph! ⁷ "Therefore you will be captured with the first that go captive. Your feasting and lounging will pass away."

¹⁰ I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all of your songs to dirges. I will cause all of you to put on sackcloth and to shave all of your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son, and its conclusion will be like the end of a bitter day."

⁹ Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will raise you up.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

³⁹ You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust.

³⁴ Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

⁹ The look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They do not hide it. Woe to their soul. For they have brought disaster upon themselves. ¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

¹⁷ Have you not done this to yourself by your forsaking the LORD your God when He led you by the way?

¹⁹ Your wickedness will chastise you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is evil and bitter, your forsaking of the LORD, your God, and fear of me is not in you," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

¹⁸ "Your way and your doings have brought these things to you. This is your wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reaches to your heart."

¹⁸ "Say to the king and to the queen mother, 'Take a lowly seat, for your glorious crowns have come down from your heads.

¹ How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!

⁸ Jerusalem has grievously sinned. Therefore she has become unclean. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness. Yes, she sighs, and turns backward.

¹⁸ The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against his commandment. Please listen all you people, and see my suffering. My virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.

¹ How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to the earth and has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

¹³ But it hath happened because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.

¹⁷ All hands will be feeble, and all knees will be weak as water. ¹⁸ '"They will put on sackcloth and they will tremble all over. Their heads will be shaved, and they will all be disgraced. ¹⁹ They will cast their silver in the streets, and their gold will be as an unclean thing. Their silver and their gold won't be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath. They won't satisfy their souls or fill their bellies; because it has been the stumbling block of their iniquity. ²⁰ '"Once they were proud of their beautiful jewels, but they used them to make disgusting idols. That is why the LORD has made their wealth repulsive to them. ²¹ '"I will hand it all over as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, and they will defile it. ²² '"I will turn my face away from them. They will desecrate my treasured place. Robbers will enter it and desecrate it.

²⁶ Thus sayeth the LORD God: Take away the mitre, and put off the crown, and so is it away: the humble is exalted, and the proud brought low.

¹² They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it. ¹⁵ And I will disperse thee in the nations, and will scatter thee among the countries, and I will put an end to thy uncleanness in thee. ¹⁶ And you will be profaned in you in the eyes of the nations. And you shall know that I am the LORD.

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; ⁵ if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight; ⁶ if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes as an example of what is coming on the ungodly;

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹¹ I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

³⁶ "'As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword; and they will fall when no one pursues.

⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit.

⁷ My eyes have grown weak from grief; and my whole body is as thin as a shadow.

⁷ My eyes grow weak with sorrow. I am weak because of all my foes.

⁹ Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in distress. My eye wastes away with grief, [yea], my soul and my body.

³ I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail looking for my God.

⁵ Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

¹⁴ "I cry like a swallow (swift). I mourn like a dove. My eyes are red from looking to you, the LORD. I am terribly abused. Please come and help me.

¹⁸ My comfort in my sadness! my heart is faint in me!

⁵ "What do I see in them? They are terrified. They are retreating. Their warriors are defeated. They flee without looking back. Terror is all around them!" declares the LORD.

¹³ From on high He sends fire; into my bones He makes it descend; He spreads a net for my feet; He turns me back; He makes me desolate, languishing all the day."

²² Let all their evil come before you; and deal with them just as you have dealt with me because of all my crimes; for my groaning is much and my heart is faint.

¹¹ ( λ - [Kaf.]) My eyes are worn out from crying, my insides are churning, My emotions pour out in grief because my people are destroyed Children and infants faint in the streets of the city.

⁷ It shall be, when they tell you, 'Why do you sigh?' that you shall say, Because of the news, for it is coming. Every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, every spirit shall faint and all knees shall be weak as water. It is coming, and it shall be done, says the Sovereign LORD.

¹⁵ so that a heart melts, and the fallen multiply at all of their gates. I gave a sword for slaughter, and alas! It is made for flashing, it is grasped for slaughtering.

¹³ Therefore will I begin to smite you; I will destroy you in your sins.

⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. ⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?'

² Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old; the tribe of your inheritance, which you have redeemed; this mount Zion, where you have dwelt. ³ Lift your steps to the perpetual ruins, to all that the enemy has ruined in the sanctuary.

¹³ On the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yes, on all the houses of joy in the joyous city: ¹⁴ For the palace will be forsaken, the crowded city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become a cave forever, the joy of wild asses, a pasture for flocks.

¹¹ "I'll make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a refuge for jackals. I'll make the towns of Judah desolate, without inhabitants."

³ My mountain in the field, your wealth and your treasures I'll give as spoil; along with your high places as the price of your sin throughout your territory.

⁹ Why have you prophesied in the LORD's name, saying, 'This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant?'” All the people were crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD's house.

¹³ He burned down the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem. Every important building was burned down.

⁸ The LORD has determined to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out the line, he has not withdrawn his hand from destroying. He has made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together. ⁹ Her gates are sunk into the ground; he has destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the nations: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

¹² Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the temple Mount like a forest high place."

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, Destroy them.

⁷ But the LORD reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.

¹⁶ The LORD is king forever and ever; nations will perish from his land.

¹⁰ the LORD sat enthroned over the flood. the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.

⁶ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

² Before the mountains were born and you brought forth the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

¹² But you, LORD, will abide forever; your renown endures to all generations.

²⁵ In the beginning You, O Lord, laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your hands. ²⁶ "They will perish, but you endure. All of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing you will renew them and they will be renewed. ²⁷ But you remain the same; your years never end.

¹³ Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. the LORD is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

¹⁰ The LORD will reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD.

⁴⁴ “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

¹⁴ And there was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

²⁷ And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, will be given to the people of the holy ones of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and all dominions will serve and obey him.

¹² Aren't you from everlasting, LORD my God, my Holy One? We will not die. LORD, you have appointed him for judgment. You, Rock, have established him to punish.

¹⁷ Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ Which he will bring about in his own time, he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ¹⁶ who alone has immortality, residing in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see; to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

⁸ But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of Your kingdom. ⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has placed You above Your companions by anointing You with the oil of joy.” ¹⁰ And, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. ¹¹ They will perish, but You remain; They will all wear out like a garment. ¹² You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”

⁸ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

⁴ John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from Him who is and was and is to come, and from the sevenfold Spirit before His throne,

⁸ "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, ¹⁸ the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades.

¹ For the music director. A psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

¹ A maskil of Asaph. Why, O God, have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

⁷ Will the Lord reject me forever and not show favor again? ⁸ Has his loving kindness vanished forever? Does his promise fail for generations? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?" Selah. ¹⁰ Then I thought: I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.

⁵ How long, O LORD, wilt Thou be angry for ever? How long will Thy jealousy burn like fire?

⁵ Will you be angry with us forever? Will you draw out your anger to all generations?

⁴⁶ How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? Shall your wrath burn like fire?

³ How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult? ⁴ They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.

⁹ Do not be angry very severely, O LORD, nor remember iniquity forever. Behold, look, we beseech you, we are all your people. ¹⁰ Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ¹¹ Our holy and beautiful Temple where our ancestors praised you has been burned to the ground. All that we valued has been ruined. ¹² Despite these things, the LORD, will you restrain yourself? Will you be silent and make us suffer beyond measure?

¹⁹ Have you completely rejected Judah? Do you despise Zion? Why have you struck us, so that there is no healing for us? We hoped for peace, but no good came, for a time of healing, but there was only terror. ²⁰ the LORD, we acknowledge our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee. ²¹ For the sake of your name, do not despise us. Do not dishonor your glorious throne. Remember your promise to us. Do not break it.

³⁷ Answer me, O LORD, answer me; that this people may know that you, O LORD, are God and that you have turned their hearts back again."

³ Restore us, God. Cause your face to shine, and we will be saved.

²³ This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: "They'll again speak this word in the land of Judah and its towns when I restore their fortunes, 'The LORD bless you, righteous dwelling, holy mountain.' ²⁴ Judah and all its towns will live together in the land, along with farmers and those who follow the flock. ²⁵ For I shall feed the hungry soul, and refresh all faint hearts."

³⁹ I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and the good of their children after them. ⁴⁰ "I will make an eternal promise to them that I will never stop blessing them. I will make them respect me so that they will never turn away from me.

¹⁰ "This is what the LORD says: 'You are saying about this place, "It is a ruin without people and without animals." Yet in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem which are desolate places without inhabitants and without animals, there will again be heard

¹³ In the towns of the hill country, in the towns of the Shephelah, in the towns of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the areas around Jerusalem, and in the towns of Judah flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them,' says the LORD."

¹⁹ and I will give them another heart and put a new spirit in them; and I will take away the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh ²⁰ that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

²⁵ I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your filthiness, and from all your idols. ²⁶ I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and give you a heart of flesh: ²⁷ »I will put my Spirit in you. I will enable you to live by my Laws, and you will obey my rules.

³⁷ "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I will also let the people of Israel ask me to make them as numerous as sheep.

³ "This is what the LORD says: 'I will return to Zion and I will live in the midst of Jerusalem. And Jerusalem will be called "The City of Truth" and the mountain of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will be called "The Holy Mountain".' ⁴ Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Old men and old women shall again sit in the public squares of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of great age. ⁵ and the streets of the city shall be filled with boys and girls playing in her streets. ⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Even if it seems impossible to the remnant of this people in those days, should it also seem impossible to me?' declares the LORD of hosts.

⁴ Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord, as in days gone by, and as in past years.

⁹ Yet you have rejected and disgraced us. You do not even go along with our armies.

¹¹ Then he said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are clean cut off.

⁶ Gomer conceived again, and gave birth to a daughter. the LORD said to Hosea: "Name her Loruhamah for I will no longer have mercy upon the house of Israel and I will not pardon them.
