² There a centurion's servant, whom he valued highly, was sick and about to die.

² And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh, ³ I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live. ⁴ But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac." ⁵ The servant asked: "What if the young woman will not leave home to come with me to this land? Shall I send your son back to the land you came from?" ⁶ Abraham answered: "Make sure that you do not send my son back there! ⁷ the LORD, the God of heaven who took me from the house of my father and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, 'to your offspring I will give this land,' he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. ⁸ And if the woman will not be willing to go after you, then you shall be clear from this oath of mine; only do not take my son back there. ⁹ And the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham, and swore to him concerning this matter. ¹⁰ And the servant took ten of his master's camels, and all sorts of good things of his master's, and went to Mesopotamia, to the town of Nahor. ¹¹ He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the evening time, the time that women go out to draw water. ¹² He said, “Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. ¹³ See, I am waiting here by the water-spring; and the daughters of the town are coming out to get water: ¹⁴ "Let there be the girl to whom I say: 'Please let down your jar so that I may drink,' and who answers: 'Drink, and I will water your camels also.' May she be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown loving-kindness to my master."

²⁷ He said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, the LORD has led me in the way to the house of my master's relatives."

³⁵ The LORD has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys. ³⁶ And Sara, my master's wife, hath borne my master a son in her old age, and he hath given him all that he had. ³⁷ My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live, ³⁸ But go to my father's house and to my relations for a wife for my son. ³⁹ But I answered my master: What if the woman will not come with me? ⁴⁰ "He said to me: 'the LORD, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you to make your journey successful. You will take a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father's house. ⁴¹ Then will you be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they do not give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.' ⁴² Then today I came to the spring, and I said, 'O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if you would please make my journey successful, upon which I am going. ⁴³ Behold! I stand at the well of water, and when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she will tell me, 'Drink, and I will also draw for your camels' - let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son. ⁴⁵ "Before I had finished speaking in my heart, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew, and I said to her, 'Please let me drink.' ⁴⁶ "She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder, and said, 'Drink, and I will water your camels also'; so I drank, and she watered the camels also. ⁴⁷ Then I asked her and said, 'Whose daughter are you?' And she said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.' And I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her arms. ⁴⁸ "I bowed low and worshiped the LORD, and praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham. He guided me in the right way to take the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son. ⁴⁹ And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right, or to the left.

⁸ And Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried below Beth-el under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon- bacuth.

⁴ And Joseph found favour in his eyes, and attended on him; and he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into his hand. ⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ He left all that he had in Joseph's hand. He did not concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Joseph was well-built and handsome.

² Now the Aramaeans had gone out in bands, and taken prisoner from Israel a little girl, who became servant to Naaman's wife. ³ She said to her mistress: "I wish my master could go to the prophet who lives in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy."

⁵ "If I have walked in falsehood or my foot has hurried after deceit

²¹ He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.

⁵⁴ When the centurion and those with him guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

⁴² because his only daughter, who was about twelve, was dying. As Jesus went with him, the crowds pressed around Him,

⁴⁷ When the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God and said, Truly this was a righteous man.

⁴⁶ So once again He came to Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. ⁴⁷ when he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judaea, he went to him and begged him to come down and cure his son, who was at the point of death.

² The Mary whose brother Lazarus was ill, was the Mary who put perfumed oil on the Lord and made his feet dry with her hair. ³ So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one You love is sick.”

¹ Now in Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment.

⁷ When the angel who had spoken to him was gone, Cornelius called two of his servants, and a devout soldier who was one of his personal attendants,

²⁶ When the officer heard this, he went to the commander and said to him, "What are you going to do? This man is a Roman citizen."

¹⁷ Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”

¹ When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Augustan Regiment.

³ The next day we put in at Sidon; and Julius treated Paul kindly, and allowed him to go to his friends and be cared for.

⁴³ but the centurion wanted to save Paul, so he prevented them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord.
