⁶ You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.

¹ The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me To devour my flesh, They who were to me my foes and my enemies, They stumbled and fell." ³ Though an army is deployed against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea. ³ though its waters roar and foam, though mountains shake with its surging water. Selah

⁷ He will not be afraid of evil news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

¹² Do not say, A conspiracy, to everything of which this people says, A conspiracy! And do not fear its fear, and do not dread. ¹³ The LORD of hosts is who you must regard as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread. ¹⁴ He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a stumbling stone and a rock that makes them fall. For the people of Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare.

² "Truly God is my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid. the LORD… the LORD is my strength and my song! He has become my salvation."

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you. ⁴ "Trust in the LORD forever, for Jah, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

²⁰ Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until his rage has passed by. ²¹ Behold! the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose (reveal) the bloodshed upon her. She will conceal her slain no longer.

¹⁹ "My anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain. Oh, the aching of my heart! My heart pounds within me; I cannot keep silent. For I hear the sound of the trumpet, the alarm for war. ²⁰ Ruin on ruin is cried; for the whole land is laid waste. Suddenly my tents are laid waste, my curtains in a moment. ²¹ How long will I see the battle standard and hear the sound of the trumpet? ²² “For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

²² This is what the LORD says: "Look, people are coming from a northern country. A great nation is stirring from the ends of the earth. ²³ They grab bow and spear; they're cruel and show no mercy. Their sound roars like the sea as they ride on horses, deployed like men ready for battle against you, daughter of Zion." ²⁴ We have heard the news about it, and our hands are limp. Distress has seized us like a woman in labor.

¹⁵ We waited for peace, but no good has come, for a time of healing, but instead there was terror. ¹⁶ "The snorting of their horses is heard from Dan. At the neighing of their stallions, the whole earth quakes. They're coming to devour the land and all it contains, the city and all who live in it.

⁶ O you sword of the LORD, how long will you be quiet? Put up yourself into your scabbard. Rest and be still.

²⁴ '"I will bring the wicked of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated. ²⁵ '"When terror comes they will seek peace, but there will be none. ²⁶ '"Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will try to get a vision from the prophet. The teaching of the law by the priest will be lost, as will the counsel of the elders.

¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword on that land and say, Let a sword go through the land, and I will cut off man and beast from it; ¹⁸ '"As I am alive, declares the Sovereign LORD, not even Noah, Daniel, and Job could rescue their sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.'" ¹⁹ "Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath on it in blood, to cut off from it man and animal; ²⁰ though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, they would save neither son nor daughter; they would save only their own lives by their righteousness. ²¹ '"This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I will surely send four terrible punishments against Jerusalem. I will send wars, famines, wild animals, and plagues. They will destroy people and animals.

⁹ "Son of man, prophecy and say, 'this is what the LORD says: "A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished! ¹⁰ '"'It is sharpened to make a slaughter and polished to flash like lightning! Shall we rejoice in the rod of my son despising every tree?'"'" ¹¹ '"The sword was given to be polished, that it might be handled. The sword is sharpened and polished, to give it into the hand of the slayer. ¹² Cry and wail, son of man, for it is against my people; it is against all of the princes of Israel. They are thrown to the sword with my people; therefore strike your thigh. ¹³ '"For there is testing. And what if even the rod that despises will be no more?" Declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹⁴ You therefore, son of man, prophesy, and strike your hands together, and let the sword strike twice, even the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which enters into their private chambers. ¹⁵ so that a heart melts, and the fallen multiply at all of their gates. I gave a sword for slaughter, and alas! It is made for flashing, it is grasped for slaughtering.

²⁸ And thou son of man, prophesy and say, Thus said the Sovereign LORD to the sons of Ammon, and for their reproach; and say, The sword, the sword was loosed: for slaughter it was polished, to consume for sake of the lightning:

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place. ²⁵ “Know therefore and discern that from the going out of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Anointed One, the prince, will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be built again, with street and moat, even in troubled times. ²⁶ After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off, and will have nothing. The people of the prince who come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end will be with a flood, and war will be even to the end. Desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he shall confirm a covenant with the many for one week. And in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. And on a wing of the altar will be abominations that desolate, even until the end. And that which was decreed shall pour out on the desolator.

¹ And I in the first year of Darius the Mede had my station to assist and to protect him. ² “Now I will show you the truth. Behold, three more kings will stand up in Persia; and the fourth will be far richer than all of them. When he has grown strong through his riches, he will stir up all against the realm of Greece. ³ And a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great dominion, and he will do as he pleases. ⁴ However, after he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken and parceled out in all directions. It will not go to his succeeding descendants nor will its power match how he ruled, because his sovereignty will be uprooted and given to successors besides them. ⁵ And the king of the south will be strong, but one of his captains will be stronger than he and will be ruler; and his rule will be a great rule. ⁶ And at the end of some years they will make an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north to make a peace treaty, but she will not retain her position of power, and his offspring will not endure, and she will be given up, she and her attendants and her child supporting her, in those times. ⁷ "'One of her family line will replace him. He'll come against the army and enter the fortress of the northern king, conquering them and becoming victorious. ⁸ He'll also take their gods, their molten images, and their valuable vessels of silver and gold into Egypt as hostages. He'll avoid the northern king for a number of years. ⁹ "The king of the north will come into the realm of the king of the south, but he will return into his own land. ¹⁰ His sons will wage war, and will assemble a multitude of great forces, which will come on, and overflow, and pass through. They will return and wage war, even to his fortress. ¹¹ »And the king of the south will be moved with anger, and will come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north. He will assemble a large army, and the army will be defeated. ¹² »The army will be lifted up, and his heart will be filled with pride. He will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not prevail. ¹³ And the king of the north will again raise a multitude, greater than the former, and at the end of some years he will surely come with a great army and with great supplies. ¹⁴ And in those times many shall rise up against the king of the south: also the violent ones among your people shall rise up in confirmation of the vision; but they shall fail. ¹⁵ »So the king of the north will come, and cast up a siege ramp, and capture a well-fortified city. The forces of the south will not stand, neither his chosen people, neither will there be any strength to stand. ¹⁶ And he who comes against him will do his pleasure, and no one will be able to keep his place before him: he will take up his position in the beautiful land and in his hand there will be destruction. ¹⁷ He'll decide to come with the full power of his kingdom, bringing with him an alliance that he'll implement. He'll give him a daughter in marriage to overthrow it, but it won't succeed or work out for him. ¹⁸ Then he'll turn his attention to the coastal lands and will capture many. But a commander will put an end to his insolence, repaying him for his scorn. ¹⁹ Then he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he will stumble and fall, and won't be found. ²⁰ "'His successor will send out a tax collector for royal splendor, but in a short period of time he'll be shattered, though neither in anger nor in battle.'" ²¹ In his place shall arise a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries. ²² "The overwhelming forces will be overwhelmed from before him, and will be broken after the prince of the covenant is destroyed. ²³ After the treaty made with him he will work deceitfully; for he will come up, and will become strong, with a small people. ²⁴ He'll invade the most prosperous areas of the province during a time of tranquility, accomplishing what neither his predecessors nor his ancestors ever could. He'll distribute war spoils, booty, and wealth to them, and he'll plot the overthrow of fortresses, though only for a time. ²⁵ Then will he stir up his strength and his heart, against the king of the south, with a great army, and, the king of the south, will wage war, with a great and exceedingly mighty army,—but will make no stand, for they will devise against him plots; ²⁶ "Those who eat of his rich foods will destroy him. His army will overflow and many will fall down slain. ²⁷ Then both the kings with their hearts bent on mischief will speak lies at one table. But it will not prosper. Because an end is still put off for a time, ²⁸ "Then king of the north will return to his land with great wealth. His heart will be against the holy covenant. He will do what he pleases and return to his own land. ²⁹ At the appointed time he shall return, and come into the south; but this time the outcome shall not be as it was before. ³⁰ For the Kittim ships will come against him. And he will be grieved and turn back and be furious against the holy covenant. And he will act, and he will return and heed the forsakers of the holy covenant. ³¹ And forces shall appear on his part, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. ³² Through flattery he'll corrupt those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but people who know their God will be strong and take action. ³³ “Those who are wise among the people will instruct many; yet they will fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder, many days. ³⁴ And when they fall they will receive little help, and many will join with them in hypocrisy. ³⁵ Some of the insightful will fall so they may be refined, purged, and purified until the time of the end, since it will surely come about.'" ³⁶ "'The king will do as he pleases. He'll exalt and magnify himself above every god, speaking amazing things against the God of Gods. He'll succeed until the indignation is completed, because what has been determined must be carried out. ³⁷ He will have no respect for the gods of his fathers or for the god desired by women; he will have no respect for any god: for he will put himself on high over all. ³⁸ But instead he shall honor the god of fortresses; a god whom his fathers did not know shall he honor with gold and silver, and with valuable stones, and costly gifts. ³⁹ He will deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god. He will increase with glory whoever acknowledges him. He will cause them to rule over many, and will divide the land for a price. ⁴⁰ "And at the time of the end the king of the south will attack him, and the king of the north will storm against him with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships, and he will advance against the countries and he will sweep through like a flood. ⁴¹ he shall enter also into the fair pleasant land. Many cities and countries shall decay, except Edom, Moab and the best of the children of Ammon, which shall escape from his hand. ⁴² He'll extend his power over other countries, and even the land of Egypt won't escape. ⁴³ He'll capture treasures of gold, silver, and all the treasures of Egypt with the Libyans and Cushites at his feet. ⁴⁴ »News from the east and the north will trouble him. He will go forth with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. ⁴⁵ And he shall pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, with no one to help him.

¹⁶ I heard and my body trembled! My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness entered into my bones and I tremble. I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the people who invade us. ¹⁷ Though the fig tree shall not blossom, and fruit is not on the vines; the work of the olive fails, and the fields make no food; the flock is cut off from the fold, and no herd is in the stalls, ¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in God my Savior.

¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

⁵⁴ But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”

⁷ When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. ⁸ Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, as well as famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

⁹ When you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be alarmed. These things must happen first, but the end is not imminent.”

¹⁹ By your endurance you will gain your lives.

³⁷ For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.”

¹ Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God: trust also in me.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’ ²⁵ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen exactly as I have been told. ²⁶ However, we must run aground on some island.”

² not to be easily disconcerted or alarmed by any spirit or message or letter presuming to be from us and alleging that the day of the Lord has already come.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their intimidation; do not be shaken.” ¹⁵ But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to articulate a defense to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But respond with gentleness and respect,
