¹ Then the sons of Israel journeyed and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho. ² Balak, son of Zippor, saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. ³ And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many; and Moab was overcome with dread because of the children of Israel. ⁴ And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this assembly is licking up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time. ⁵ And he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor which is beside the River of the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying, Behold! A people has come out of Egypt. Behold! it has covered the face of the earth, and it is setting next to me. ⁶ Now, please go, curse this people for me because they are stronger than me; perhaps I will be able to strike them and drive them out from the land because I know whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you cursed is cursed." ⁷ The elders of Moab and Midian left. They took money with them to pay for Balaam's services. They came to Balaam and told him what Balak had said. ⁸ "Spend the night here," Balaam said to them, "and I will report to you what the LORD tells me." So the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. ⁹ God came to Balaam and asked: "Who are these men with you?" ¹⁰ And Balaam said to God, Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent them to me, saying, ¹¹ 'Behold, the people that has come out of Egypt covers the surface of the earth. Now, come curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.'” ¹² God said to Balaam, "You will not go with them; you will not curse the people, because they are blessed." ¹³ When Balaam got up in the morning, he said to Balak's princes: "Go back to your own country. the LORD has refused to let me go with you." ¹⁴ The Moabite princes went back to Balak and said: "Balaam refused to come with us." ¹⁵ Then Balak again sent princes, more in number and more honorable than these. ¹⁶ When they came to Balaam they said to him: "This is what Balak son of Zippor says: 'Do not let anything keep you from coming to me. ¹⁷ because I will surely honor you greatly, and all that you say to me I will do. Please, come; curse this people for me.'" ¹⁸ Balaam answered Balak's servants: "Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not disobey the command of the LORD my God no matter whether the request was important or not. ¹⁹ "Now, please stay here tonight, as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD may have to tell me." ²⁰ That night God came to Balaam and said: "If these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you." ²¹ Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab. ²² But God became angry because he was going, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road as an adversary to him; he was riding on his donkey, and two servants were with him. ²³ The donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. The donkey turned off the road into a field. Balaam hit the donkey to get it back on the road. ²⁴ The angel of the LORD stood in the narrow path of the vineyards, with a wall on either side. ²⁵ And when the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he struck her again. ²⁶ And again the Angel of the LORD passed on and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn, either to the right or to the left. ²⁷ When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, so Balaam became angry, and he struck the donkey with his staff. ²⁸ And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times? ²⁹ Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you made a mockery of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now!" ³⁰ The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life until this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" He said, "No." ³¹ And the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the road with His sword drawn in His hand. And he bowed and fell on his face. ³² The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Look, I have come forth as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me: ³³ The donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from my face, then I would have killed you and kept her alive." ³⁴ Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned because I did not know that you were standing to meet me in the road. Now, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back." ³⁵ The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only the word that I will speak to you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak. ³⁶ When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went forth to meet him at Ar of Moab on the boundary of Arnon which was at the end of the territory. ³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not urgently send to meet with you? Why did you not come to me? Am I really not able to honor you?" ³⁸ Balaam said to Balak, "Look, I came to you now. Am I really able to speak anything at all? I speak the word that God puts in my mouth." ³⁹ And Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath-huzoth. ⁴⁰ Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes who were with him. ⁴¹ The next morning Balak took Balaam up to Bamoth Baal, from where Balaam could see a part of the people of Israel.

²⁰ and from Bamoth in the valley in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah at the face of the desolation.

¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”

⁴⁸ They journeyed from the mountains of Abarim and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho. ⁴⁹ They set up camp on the plains of Moab along the Jordan. Their camp extended from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim. ⁵⁰ And in the lowlands of Moab by Jordan at Jericho, the Lord said to Moses,

¹⁵ The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan of Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.

¹³ These are the commandments and rules the LORD gave the Israelites through Moses on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho.

⁵ beyond the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this law, saying,

⁸ "So at that time we took control from the two Amorite kings the territory east of the Jordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon.

¹ Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, opposite from Jericho. the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead to Dan,

⁸ The children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the days of weeping in the mourning for Moses were ended.

¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

³ the LORD heard them and helped them conquer the Canaanites. The Israelites completely destroyed them and their cities, and named the place Hormah.

²⁰ and from Bamoth in the valley in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah at the face of the desolation. ²¹ Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, ²² "Let us go through your country. We will not go through any of your fields or vineyards or drink any of the water from your wells. We will stay on the king's highway until we have passed through your territory." ²³ Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Sihon gathered all his troops and came out into the desert to attack Israel. When Sihon's troops came to Jahaz, they fought against Israel. ²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified. ²⁵ Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the town of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had made war against an earlier king of Moab and taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore the poets say, Come to Heshbon; let the city of Sihon be built and established. ²⁸ Because fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. ³⁰ And we shot at them. Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. And we have laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba." ³¹ So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. ³² And Moses sent to spy out Ya’zer, and they captured the villages thereof, and drove out the Emorites that were there. ³³ Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei. ³⁴ the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon." ³⁵ So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

²⁵ "'Do you think you are better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever challenge Israel or fight with them?

¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were terrified; the leaders of Moab were seized by trembling; all the dwellers of Canaan were melted.

²⁵ Today, I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the nations under the whole heavens; who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.

¹⁰ For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the reed sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites on the other side Jordan; Sihon, and Og, which ye utterly destroyed. ¹¹ When we heard these reports, we all became terrified and discouraged because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, The Lord has delivered all the land into our power, and all the inhabitants of that land tremble because of us.

²⁴ They answered Joshua, and said, "Because your servants were certainly told how the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

⁵ There the Israelites were seized with terror, when there was nothing to fear. For God scattered the bones of those who laid siege against you you put them to shame, for God rejected them.

⁵ When word arrives at Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.

² Balak, son of Zippor, saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

⁷ The elders of Moab and Midian left. They took money with them to pay for Balaam's services. They came to Balaam and told him what Balak had said.

¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and crush all the sons of Sheth.

¹⁵ The name of the Midianite woman who was struck was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a leader of a tribe of the family in Midian. ¹⁶ the LORD said to Moses: ¹⁷ "Treat the Midianites as your enemies, and kill them! ¹⁸ "This is because they treated you as enemies. They plotted to trick you in the incident that took place at Peor. They used their sister Cozbi, daughter of a Midianite leader, who was killed on the day of the plague caused by the incident at Peor."

⁸ They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

²¹ all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. ²² In addition to their slain, the Israelites killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination.

³⁸ On all the housetops of Moab and in the streets there will be nothing but mourning, for I'll break Moab like a vessel that no one wants," declares the LORD.

¹⁶ "I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust, your offspring could be counted.

⁷ And the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied and were many and were very, very numerous, and the land was filled with them. ⁸ A new king, who knew nothing about Joseph, began to rule in Egypt. ⁹ And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the Israelites are greater and more numerous than us. ¹⁰ Come on, let's be careful how we treat them, so that when they grow numerous, if a war breaks out they won't join our enemies, fight against us, and leave our land."

⁷ Balaam delivered this message: "Balak brought me from Aram. The king of Moab summoned me from the eastern mountains. Come and curse Jacob for me," he said. 'Come and condemn Israel.

⁴ Because they gave you no bread or water on your way, when you came out of Egypt: and they got Balaam, the son of Peor, from Pethor in Aram-naharaim to put curses on you.

²² In addition to their slain, the Israelites killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination.

⁹ Then Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab, went up to war against Israel; and he sent for Balaam, the son of Beor, to put a curse on you:

¹ On that day the book of Moses was read in the hearing of the people and it was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God ² because they did not meet the Israelites with bread and water; but hired Balaam against them to curse them; but our God turned the curse into a blessing.

²⁴ And he made his people very fruitful. He also made them stronger than their enemies.

⁵ My people, remember, I pray, what Balak, king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam, son of Beor, answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of the LORD."

¹⁵ They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickedness. ¹⁶ but he was rebuked for his own transgression by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

¹¹ Woe to them! They have traveled the path of Cain; they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah’s rebellion.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

²⁹ Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; Be lord of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you."

¹² God said to Balaam, "You will not go with them; you will not curse the people, because they are blessed."

¹⁷ because I will surely honor you greatly, and all that you say to me I will do. Please, come; curse this people for me.'"

⁷ Balaam delivered this message: "Balak brought me from Aram. The king of Moab summoned me from the eastern mountains. Come and curse Jacob for me," he said. 'Come and condemn Israel. ⁸ "'How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I condemn those whom the LORD has not condemned?

⁹ He lies down, he rests as a lion; and as a young lion, who shall rouse him? Those that bless you are blessed, and those that curse you are cursed.

⁴³ The Philistine said to David, Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks? The Philistine cursed David by his gods.

⁶ And the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, and the Lord will give it into the king`s hand.

⁸ Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man to inquire from the LORD, but I despise him, for he never prophesies anything good concerning me, but only bad: Micaiah the son of Imlah." Then Jehoshaphat said, "The king should not say so."

¹³ Then the messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Please now, the words of the prophet are unanimously favorable to the king. Please let your words be as one word with them, and speak favorably."

² because they did not meet the Israelites with bread and water; but hired Balaam against them to curse them; but our God turned the curse into a blessing.

¹⁷ Yea, he loved cursing, and it came to him; he also had no pleasure in blessing, and it was far from him. ¹⁸ He put on cursing like a robe, and it has come into his body like water, and into his bones like oil.

²⁸ Let them curse, but you bless. When they arise, they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice.

² Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.

¹² Stand now among your spells, and with your many sorceries, in which you have wearied yourself since your youth. Perhaps you will be able to profit; perhaps may cause quaking. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the knowers from the new moons, stand up and save you from the things that will come upon you.

⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, that say: The LORD saith; and the LORD hath not sent them, yet they hope that the word would be confirmed!

⁹ Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great, ¹⁰ and all the people, from the least to the greatest, heeded his words and said, “This man is the divine power called the Great Power.”

¹⁶ One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl with a spirit of clairvoyance, who earned a large income for her masters by fortune-telling.

²³ For there is not a spell against Jacob, nor any divination against Israel. Now it is said of Jacob and Israel, See what God has done!

¹ And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not go, as at the other times, to meet with omens, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

⁷ Then Saul said to his servant, But if we go, what are we to take the man? all our bread is gone, and we have no offering to take to the man of God: what are we to do? ⁸ The servant again answered Saul and said, "Look, I have in my hand a quarter shekel of silver! I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us our way."

¹¹ They are dogs with mighty appetites. They never have enough! They are shepherds who lack understanding. They all turn to their own way and each one seeks dishonest (unjust) gain.

¹⁹ You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die, and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies."

¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will come on us.”

¹⁸ For such as these are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

¹¹ They must be silenced, for such men upset whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach, for the sake of dishonest gain.

¹⁵ They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickedness.

⁶ He said: "Listen to my words: 'When there are prophets of the LORD among you, I make myself known to them in visions or speak to them in dreams.

¹⁹ "Now, please stay here tonight, as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD may have to tell me." ²⁰ That night God came to Balaam and said: "If these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you."

¹² He answered and said, "Should I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"

² You plant them, and they take root. They grow and bear fruit. You are near their lips, but far from their mind.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

⁹ But the LORD God called to the man: "Where are you?" ¹⁰ He (Adam) answered: "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." ¹¹ And he said: "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

⁹ the LORD asked Cain: "Where is your brother Abel?" "I do not know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

⁸ He said: "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?" "I am running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.

³ But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, Behold, you are about to die because of the woman you have taken, she being married to a husband.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, Take care thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

²⁵ Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dreams of Pharaoh are one. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do.

² The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

²⁰ That night God came to Balaam and said: "If these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you."

¹⁴ Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say and where did they come from? And Hezekiah said, They came from a far country, even from Babylon. ¹⁵ And he said: What did they see in thy house? Ezechias said: They saw all the things that are in my house: There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

⁴⁵ »You saw a stone cut out of the mountain without hands. It broke the iron, brass, clay, silver, and the gold to pieces. The great God made known to the king what will happen in the future. The dream is certain, and the interpretation of it is sure.«

³¹ The word was still in the king's voice when a voice fell from the heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: The kingdom has been taken from you! ³² You're to be driven away from people. You're to live with the wild animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like cattle, and seven years will pass you by until you realize that the Most High is sovereign over human kingdoms and grants them to whomever he desires.'

²² Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.

⁵¹ He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

² "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing.

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, ¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities. ¹⁸ And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me and whatever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.

¹³ Balak said: "Please come with me to another place, where you can see the Israelites. You will see only some of them, not all of them. Curse them for me from there." ¹⁴ So he took him to the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah, and he built seven altars, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar. ¹⁵ Then Balaam said to Balak: "Stay here beside your burnt offering while I meet with God over there."

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of humankind, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? ²⁰ Look, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can't reverse it.

⁵ But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse to a blessing to you, because the LORD your God loved you.

²⁹ How blessed are you, Israel! Who can be like you, a people delivered by the LORD, your shield of help and your finely crafted sword. May your enemies cower before you. You will tread down their high places.

¹⁵ "In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, ¹⁶ he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, ¹⁷ that turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride.

¹⁵ Blessed are the people who have it thus. Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.

⁵ Blessed is he whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

¹⁹ While Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered terribly in a dream today because of Him.”

⁶ Just so David speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works, ⁷ Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered;

²⁹ For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.

¹⁴ The Moabite princes went back to Balak and said: "Balaam refused to come with us."

¹³ When Balaam got up in the morning, he said to Balak's princes: "Go back to your own country. the LORD has refused to let me go with you."

³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not urgently send to meet with you? Why did you not come to me? Am I really not able to honor you?"

⁶ Now, please go, curse this people for me because they are stronger than me; perhaps I will be able to strike them and drive them out from the land because I know whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you cursed is cursed."

² Balak did as he was told. He and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar. ³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet me and whatever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.

²⁹ Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.” ³⁰ Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

¹¹ Therefore, run away to your place now. I said: "I will honor you greatly, but the LORD has held you back from honor."

⁹ "Count off seven weeks from when the sickle is first put to standing grain.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and his many sons, and all to which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

⁹ Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs attending the king, observed, "Look there! A pole is standing 75 feet high at Haman's house that he prepared for Mordecai, whose report benefited the king!" The king said, "Hang him on it."

⁸ Again the devil took him to a very high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, ⁹ “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.”

⁷ That he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.

²⁶ What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

³⁸ Balaam said to Balak, "Look, I came to you now. Am I really able to speak anything at all? I speak the word that God puts in my mouth."

²⁶ Balaam answered: "Did I not tell you that I must do everything the LORD tells me?"

¹³ 'If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what the LORD says?'

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, "As surely as the LORD liveth, what the LORD putteth in my mouth, that will I speak."

¹³ Micaiah said, “As the LORD lives, I will say what my God says.”

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing to the king, and tell him the interpretation.

²⁰ But Peter replied, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but by their actions they disown Him; they are detestable, disobedient, and useless for anything good.

³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

³⁵ The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only the word that I will speak to you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

⁵ And the LORD put a saying in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Go again to Balak and say on this wise."

¹⁶ The LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and say this."

⁵ and they said to him, Look, you are old and your sons don't walk in your ways; now appoint a king to judge us like all the nations. ⁶ Samuel was displeased when they said, "Give us a king to govern us." So Samuel prayed to the LORD. ⁷ The LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to the people in all that they say to you. In fact, it's not you they have rejected, but rather they have rejected me from being their king. ⁸ As they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt to this day, in forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they also do to you. ⁹ Now therefore listen to their voice, but protest solemnly to them and show them what the king who shall reign over them will do.

¹² But when you saw that Nahash, king of the Ammonites, was coming to fight you, you said to me, 'No, let a king rule over us instead,' even though the LORD your God was your king. ¹³ "Now, here is the king you have chosen, the one whom you asked for. See, the Lord has appointed a king over you. ¹⁴ If you fear the LORD, serve him, obey him, and don't rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then both you and the king who rules over you will truly follow the LORD your God. ¹⁵ But if you don't obey the LORD and rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the LORD will turn against you as he did against your ancestors. ¹⁶ "Now then, stand up and see this great thing that the LORD is about to do before your eyes. ¹⁷ Isn't it wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD to send thunder and rain, and you shall know and see that your wickedness is great which you have done in the eyes of the LORD, in asking for a king. ¹⁸ Samuel called upon the LORD that same day, and the LORD sent thunder and rain. So all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to the LORD your God for your servants, and not we will die, for we have added this evil to all our sins to ask a king for ourselves.

¹⁰ the LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations. He frustrates the plans of the peoples. ¹¹ The counsel of the LORD stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

³⁰ But they were not turned from their desires; and while the food was still in their mouths, ³¹ The wrath of God came on them, and put to death the fattest of them, and put an end to the young men of Israel.

¹² "Therefore I gave them over to their stubborn hearts. They walked in their own counsel.

²⁹ "For the reason that you rage against me and because your insolence (arrogance) has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the way you came."

² And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face. Should I at all be inquired of by them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him in it by the host of his idols; ⁵ "'I will do this to recapture the hearts of the nation of Israel. They have deserted me because of their disgusting idols.'"

¹¹ I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him in my wrath.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, ¹² and so that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in wickedness.

¹⁵ My son, do not go along with them, and keep your feet away from their paths! ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said: 'The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath been my shepherd all my life long unto this day, ¹⁶ the Angel who delivered me from all evils, bless these children! And let them be called by my name and by the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaak; and may they be increased to a great multitude on the earth!

² There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire coming from the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not burning up. ³ Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” ⁴ When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from the center of the bush, "Moses! Moses!" He said, "Here I am." ⁵ "Do not come any closer," God said. "Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground." ⁶ Then he said, "I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

²⁴ But later on, at the lodging place along the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him.

²⁰ "Look, I'm sending an angel in front of you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I've prepared.

³² The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Look, I have come forth as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me:

²⁰ Jehu said, “Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal!” So they proclaimed it.

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary, and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.

⁴ And the LORD said to him, "Name him Jezreel; because in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

⁴ He struggled with the angel and won. Jacob cried and pleaded with him. Jacob found him at Bethel, and he talked with him there. ⁵ even the LORD, the God of hosts; The LORD is his name of renown.

¹⁷ Elisha prayed: "O LORD, open his eyes that he may see." the LORD answered his prayer. Elisha's servant looked up and saw the hillside covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

¹⁶ David looked up and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and heaven, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

⁷ Even the stork in the sky knows its seasons, and the dove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time for migration. But my people don't know the requirements of the LORD.

⁷ And I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see it; but a great shaking came on them and they went in flight to take cover.

⁹ My companions saw the light, but they could not understand the voice of the One speaking to me.

²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. ²⁸ God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are, ²⁹ that no flesh may boast before him.

¹⁶ but he was rebuked for his own transgression by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night. ¹⁵ But He saves the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

¹² Stand now among your spells, and with your many sorceries, in which you have wearied yourself since your youth. Perhaps you will be able to profit; perhaps may cause quaking.

¹¹ O LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame. Let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.

⁶ Therefore, look, I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she can't find her way.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.

³ A stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's anger is heavier than both. ⁴ Fury is cruel, and anger overwhelming, Yet who can stand before jealousy?

¹⁹ My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

¹¹ the LORD said to him: "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

³⁷ for nothing is impossible with God.

²² We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.

¹⁹ For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

¹⁰ A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

¹⁶ A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent.

³ There is a tragedy that infects everything that happens on earth: a common event happens to everyone. In fact, the hearts of human beings are full of evil. Madness remains in their hearts while they live, and afterwards they join the dead.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.

²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. ²⁸ God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are,

¹⁹ And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink.

⁸ And Moses bowed himself to the earth quickly, and worshipped,

⁴ The oracle of him who hears the words of God and who sees the vision of the Almighty. Falling down, yet having his eyes open.

¹⁶ "The oracle of him who hears the words of God, knows the knowledge of the Most High, and sees the vision of the Almighty. Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered.

¹⁷ Elisha prayed: "O LORD, open his eyes that he may see." the LORD answered his prayer. Elisha's servant looked up and saw the hillside covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as Elisha had spoken. ¹⁹ Then Elisha told the army, "This isn't the way, and this isn't the city! Follow me, and I'll bring you to the man you're seeking. Then he led them to Samaria. ²⁰ And when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

²⁰ Put them in fear, O LORD, let the nations know they are but men. Selah.

¹⁶ But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; but he disappeared from their sight.

⁶ When Jesus said 'I am he,' they drew back and fell to the ground.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

²² But God became angry because he was going, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road as an adversary to him; he was riding on his donkey, and two servants were with him.

²⁸ And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times?

⁴ "Don't muzzle an ox while it is threshing grain."

⁶ Your righteousness is like the great mountains; your judgments are a great deep: O LORD, you preserve man and beast.

⁹ the LORD is good to all, And His compassions are over all His works."

⁹ He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call.

² He who walks in uprightness fears the LORD, Yet he who deviates in his ways despises Him."

⁶ Better is the poor man who walks in uprightness, than the rich man who is perverse in his ways.

¹⁸ Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

¹¹ And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand, and also many cattle?

¹⁰ and said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

¹⁴ They have eyes full of adultery, that never cease from sin; they entice unstable souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! ¹⁵ They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickedness.

³⁷ the men who spread the evil report of the land died by the plague before the LORD.

³³ They went down alive to their graves with everything that belonged to them. The ground covered them. They disappeared from the assembly. ³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

²⁴ When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body. ²⁵ Behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived. ²⁶ When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God who was disobedient to the mouth of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to him." ²⁷ He said to his sons: "Saddle my donkey for me." They did so. ²⁸ He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body, nor mauled the donkey.

²⁷ Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have done evil this time: the Lord is upright, and I and my people are sinners.

¹⁶ Pharaoh quickly called Moses and Aaron and said, "I've sinned against the LORD your God and against you. ¹⁷ "Please forgive my sin one more time. Pray to the LORD your God to take this deadly plague away from me."

¹ Now the people complained about hunger speaking evil in the ears of the LORD, so that when the LORD heard it, his anger flared and the fire of the LORD burned against them and even consumed the outskirts of the camp.

⁴⁰ Early the next morning they headed into the mountains. They said: "We have sinned. Now we will go to the place the LORD promised."

²⁴ Then Saul told Samuel: "I have sinned by not following the LORD's command or your instructions. I was afraid of the people and listened to them.

³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned, yet please honour me now before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me so that I may worship the LORD your God.

¹⁷ to David, "You are more righteous than I am, because you have treated me well even though I've treated you poorly.

²¹ Then Saul said, "I have sinned! Come back, David my son, for I will not harm you again, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Look, I have acted like a fool and have made a terrible mistake."

¹³ David said to Nathan: "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied: "the LORD has taken away your sin. You will not die.

⁷ and the thing was evil in the sight of God, therefore he smote Israel.

³¹ "For has any said to God, 'I am guilty, but I will not offend any more. ³² teach me yourself what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not repeat it'?

³⁴ When he slew them, they sought him, and turned them early, and inquired after God.

¹⁸ the LORD will see it and be displeased and turn his anger away from him.

⁴ "I have sinned," he said, "in betraying innocent blood!" "What is that to us?" they answered; "you must see to that." ⁵ So Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

²⁰ That night God came to Balaam and said: "If these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you." ²¹ Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

²⁶ "Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it! And now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone. ²⁷ "Their people are drained of power. They are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, parched before it grows. ²⁸ »I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me. ²⁹ "For the reason that you rage against me and because your insolence (arrogance) has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the way you came."

¹⁷ After his return from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the Valley of the King).

² And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing near him. And he saw them and ran from the doorway of the tent to meet them. And he bowed down to the ground.

²⁹ Joseph got in his chariot and went to Goshen to meet his father. When they met, Joseph threw his arms around his father's neck and cried for a long time.

⁷ When Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, he bowed low and kissed him, and they greeted one another. Then they went into the tent.

¹³ They moved again and camped on the north side of the Arnon River, in the desert that extends into Amorite territory. The Arnon was the border between the Moabites and the Amorites. ¹⁴ As it says in the book of the Wars of the Lord, Vaheb in Suphah, and the valley of the Amon;

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle.

¹⁸ Then they traveled through the wilderness, went around the land of Edom and Moab, and came to the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped beyond the Arnon; and they did not go into the territory of Moab because the Arnon was the border of Moab.

¹⁰ Just as he finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to meet and greet him.

² Like fluttering birds pushed from the nest, so are the women of Moab at the fords of the Arnon River.

²⁰ Moab was disgraced, for he is broken. Shriek and cry out! Announce in Arnon! that Moab is destroyed

¹⁵ The Brethren there had heard about us, and came out as far as the Market of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At sight of them Paul thanked God and was much cheered.

¹⁶ When they came to Balaam they said to him: "This is what Balak son of Zippor says: 'Do not let anything keep you from coming to me. ¹⁷ because I will surely honor you greatly, and all that you say to me I will do. Please, come; curse this people for me.'"

⁶ For not from the east, or from the west, Nor from the wilderness— is elevation.

⁶ and the devil said to him, "I will give you all their power and grandeur, for it has been made over to me and I can give it to anyone I choose.

⁴⁴ How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

¹⁸ Balaam answered Balak's servants: "Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not disobey the command of the LORD my God no matter whether the request was important or not.

¹⁰ the LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations. He frustrates the plans of the peoples.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

²¹ There are many plans in a man's heart, but the LORD's counsel will prevail.

²⁵ who foils the omens of the empty talkers, and makes fools of diviners; who turns sages back, and makes their knowledge foolish;

¹⁰ "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'

⁵⁴ He offered a sacrifice on the mountain. He invited his relatives to eat the meal with him. They ate with him and spent the night on the mountain.

² Balak did as he was told. He and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

¹⁴ So he took him to the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah, and he built seven altars, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

²⁸ Because fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon.

¹³ Balak said: "Please come with me to another place, where you can see the Israelites. You will see only some of them, not all of them. Curse them for me from there."

² The Moabites invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods. The people ate and bowed down to their gods. ³ Israel joined himself to Baal Peor, and the LORD's anger burned against Israel.

² "Destroy all the places where the nations you dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.

¹⁵ and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.

³⁵ And I will put an end in Moab, says the Lord, to him who is making offerings in the high place and burning perfumes to his gods.
