¹ And the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the family of Manasseh, the son of Joseph came. And these are his daughters names: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ² They came before Moses and Eleazar the priest and the chiefs and all the people at the door of the Tent of meeting, and said, ³ "Our father died in the desert. He was not a part of Korah's followers who joined forces against the LORD. He died for his own sin and left no sons. ⁴ "Why should our father's name be allowed to die out in his family because he had no son? Give us property among our father's relatives." ⁵ So Moses brought their case before the LORD. ⁶ the LORD said to him: ⁷ "Zelophehad's daughters are right. You must give them property of their own among their father's relatives. Turn their father's property over to them. ⁸ "Tell the Israelites: 'If a man dies and leaves no sons, turn his property over to his daughters. ⁹ "'If he has no daughters give his property to his brothers. ¹⁰ And if he has no brothers, then give his heritage to his father's brothers. ¹¹ "'If he has no uncles, give his property to the nearest relative in his family. That relative will take possession of it. This will be a rule for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.'" ¹² the LORD said to Moses, "Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land that I have given to the Israelites. ¹³ And when you have seen it, you will be put to rest with your people, as your brother Aaron was: ¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the desert of Zin when the community quarreled regarding my holiness at the waters." (These are the waters of Meribah-Kadesh in the desert of Zin.) ¹⁵ And Moses said to the Lord, ¹⁶ "Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the community ¹⁷ And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd. ¹⁸ Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him. ¹⁹ Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and commission him in their sight. ²⁰ "Give him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before LORD. At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even ²² Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He had Joshua stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation. ²³ and he laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the LORD spoke by Moses.

³³ Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons-only daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

¹ The leaders of the families of the clans of descendants of Gilead the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, of the clans of the descendants of Joseph came near and spoke before Moses and before the leaders of the families of the Israelites. ² And they said: the LORD commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel. And my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. ³ "Remember, if they marry men of another tribe, their property will then belong to that tribe, and the total allotted to us will be reduced. ⁴ When the Jubilee of the Israelites comes, it will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong; and their inheritance will disappear from the tribe of our father." ⁵ So by the direction of the Lord, Moses gave orders to the children of Israel, saying, What the tribe of the sons of Joseph have said is right. ⁶ This is the word that the LORD commanded the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, 'Let them marry whomever they like; only they must marry from within the clan of the tribe of their father. ⁷ So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. ⁸ "Every woman who inherits property in an Israelite tribe must marry a man belonging to that tribe. In this way all Israelites will inherit the property of their ancestors, ⁹ and the property will not pass from one tribe to another. Each tribe will continue to possess its own property." ¹⁰ Zelophehad's daughters did as the LORD commanded Moses. ¹¹ Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah married their cousins on their father's side of the family. ¹² They married within the families of the descendants of Manasseh, son of Joseph. So their land stayed in the tribe of their father's family.

³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ⁴ They came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes, saying, “the LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. ⁵ Thus ten shares fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan, ⁶ because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

¹⁵ Makir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites. His sister's name was Maacah. Another descendant was named Zelophehad, who had only daughters.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

¹³ The next day Moses sat down to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning until evening. ¹⁴ When Moses' father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, "What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning until evening?"

¹⁹ "Listen to the advice I give you. May God be with you! You must be the people's representative to God and bring their disagreements to him. ²⁰ and enlighten them statutes and torahs and have them know the way to walk and the work to work: ²¹ "You shall look for capable men among the people, men who fear God, men of integrity who hate dishonest gain. You shall set these men over them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. ²² They shall judge the people at all times. Let them bring every major matter to you, but let them judge every minor matter. It will lighten your burden, and they'll bear it with you. ²³ If you do this, and God so commands you, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will also go to their homes in peace." ²⁴ Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. ²⁵ Moses chose capable men from all Israel and appointed them as heads over the people, as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. ²⁶ And they judged the people at all times; any difficult cause they brought unto Moses, but every small cause they judged themselves.

³³ And they that found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to the whole assembly. ³⁴ And they put him in custody, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

⁸ "If a case is too difficult for you to decide with respect to bloodshed, civil claims, assault and battery, or other matters of dispute within your courts, bring it to the place that the LORD your God will choose. ⁹ You shall come to the priests who are Levites and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall inquire, and they shall give you the verdict. ¹⁰ carry out the verdict that was declared to you at the place that the LORD will choose. Carefully observe all of their instructions to you

³⁵ I, the LORD, have spoken; I will surely do this to all this evil community who has banded together against me. In this desert they will come to an end, and there they will die."

¹ Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, arose along with Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth (sons of Reuben);" ² and they rose up against Moses, with two hundred and fifty men of the sons of Israel, princes of the congregation, of the council, men of renown; ³ They came together to confront Moses and Aaron. They said: "You have gone far enough! Everyone in the whole congregation is holy. the LORD is among them. Why do you set yourselves above the LORD's assembly?"

¹⁹ Korah assembled all his followers who opposed Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the tent of meeting. The glory of the LORD appeared to the entire group.

³² The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah's men, and all their goods. ³³ They went down alive to their graves with everything that belonged to them. The ground covered them. They disappeared from the assembly. ³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

⁴⁹ Fourteen thousand seven hundred died from the plague in addition to those who died because of Korah.

⁹ The children of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the same Dathan and Abiram who were appointed of the community, who rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they rebelled against the LORD, ¹⁰ And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that band died, when the fire devoured the two hundred and fifty men; and they became a sign.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the Israelites in the desert of Sinai. ⁶⁵ for the LORD had said to them that they would die, yea die in the wilderness. And not a man of them was left save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul who sins, he shall die.

²¹ Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”

²⁴ I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.

¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness, to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹¹ And Moses implored the LORD his God, and he said, "Why, the LORD, should your anger blaze against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?

⁴ They came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes, saying, “the LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

¹³ Let his descendants be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the next generation.

⁹ The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

¹⁵ Moses said to his father-in-law, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will. ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between one and another, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws. ¹⁷ Moses' father-in-law said to him, "What you are doing is not good. ¹⁸ "You and your people will wear yourselves out. This is too much work for you. You cannot do it alone! ¹⁹ "Listen to the advice I give you. May God be with you! You must be the people's representative to God and bring their disagreements to him.

²² "I will be above the throne of mercy between the angels whenever I meet with you. I will give you all my commandments for the Israelites.

¹² They put him in custody, until the will of the LORD should be declared to them. ¹³ And the Lord said to Moses,

⁸ Moses answered them, "Wait, that I may hear what the LORD will command concerning you."

³⁴ And they put him in custody, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. ⁶ God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

²⁵ If thy brother become poor, and sell away some of his possession: then may his nearest of kin come and redeem what his brother hath sold.

⁴⁹ or his uncle or his uncle's son may redeem him, or one of his close relatives from his clan may redeem him; or if he prospers, he may redeem himself.

²⁹ These rules are to be your guide in judging through all your generations wherever you may be living.

³ He said to the near kinsman, "Naomi, who has come back out of the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's. ⁴ I thought to disclose it to you saying, 'Buy it in the presence of those who sit here, and of the elders of my people'. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then let me know. You have first right to redeem it; and I am next in line. He said, I will redeem it. ⁵ Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you must also aquire the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance." ⁶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance. You redeem my right to yourself, for I cannot redeem.

²⁵ And so he made it a rule and an order for Israel from that day till now.

⁸ So Hanamel the son of Shallom my father's brother came to me into the court of the prison, and said, Buy my field that is in the land of Benjamin, in Anathoth: for you have a right to buy it, and you are the elder. So I knew that it was the word of the Lord.

⁴⁷ They traveled from Almon Diblathaim, and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. ⁴⁸ They journeyed from the mountains of Abarim and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho.

²³ »Then I pleaded with the LORD: ²⁴ “Sovereign LORD, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do works like yours, and mighty acts like yours? ²⁵ Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and Lebanon." ²⁶ "the LORD was angry with me because of you, so he would not listen to me. He said: 'Enough of that! Do not talk to me anymore about this. ²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift your eyes toward the west, north, south, and east. Look with your own eyes, since you won't be able to cross this Jordan River.

⁴⁸ That same day the Lord said to Moses, ⁴⁹ "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim range, Mount Nebo, which is opposite Jericho, and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the Israelites as a possession. ⁵⁰ and die in the mountain where you are going, and be gathered to your people, even as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people; ⁵¹ because of the fact that you broke faith with me in the midst of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the desert of Zin, because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the Israelites. ⁵² "You will see the land at a distance, but you will not go into the land I am giving the sons of Israel."

¹ Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, opposite from Jericho. the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead to Dan, ² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. ⁴ Then the LORD said to him: "This is the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by an oath when I said, 'I'll give it to your descendants.' I'll let you see it with your eyes, but you won't cross over there."

⁸ Then Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and full of days, and was added to his people.

¹⁷ And these, are the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty-seven years,—and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered unto his people.

²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the Israelites because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and his son Eleazar, and cause them to go up to Mount Hor; ²⁶ Strip off Aaron's garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; Aaron will be gathered to his people, and he will die there." ²⁷ Moses did what the LORD commanded. They went up Mount Hor in the sight of the entire congregation. ²⁸ Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

² "Seek vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites; afterward you will be gathered to your people."

³⁸ the LORD commanded Aaron the priest to go up on Mount Hor. He died there on the first day of the fifth month in the fortieth year after the Israelites left Egypt.

⁶ "The Israelites traveled from the wells of the Jaakanites to Moserah. Aaron died, and he was buried there. His son Eleazar succeeded him as priest.

⁵⁰ and die in the mountain where you are going, and be gathered to your people, even as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people;

⁷ He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us, or not?"

¹ In the first month the whole congregation of Israel came into the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. Miriam died and was buried there.

⁸ "Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink." ⁹ So Moses took the staff from ⌊before⌋ Yahweh just as he command him, ¹⁰ Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?" ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank. ¹² But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them." ¹³ Those were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD, and he showed himself holy among them.

²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the Israelites because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either.

³² And they angered Him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill for Moses because of them; ³³ for they rebelled against his spirit so that he babbled with his lips:

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, God of the spirits of all flesh; shall one man sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation?

¹⁴ Then the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, the time for you to die is near. Call Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, that I may commission him." So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.

¹³ "Now, here is the king you have chosen, the one whom you asked for. See, the Lord has appointed a king over you.

⁵ Behold, I intend to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place shall build the house for my name.'

¹⁵ And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

⁴ I will set up shepherds over them, who will feed them. They will no longer be afraid or dismayed, neither will any be lacking,” says the LORD. ⁵ "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch. He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.

¹¹ For so says the Sovereign LORD: Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. ¹² As a shepherd seeks his flock in the day that he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out My sheep and will deliver them from all the places where they were scattered in a day of cloud and thick cloud. ¹³ And I will bring them out from the peoples, and I will gather them from the countries, and I will bring them to their soil, and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys, and in all of the settlements of the land. ¹⁴ I will feed them in good pasture. On the lofty mountain of Israel shall be their folds; there they shall lie down and rest there in luxurious ease, and be fed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. ¹⁵ I will feed My sheep, and I will make them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹⁶ "I will seek the lost. I will bring back the scattered. I will bind up the broken and strengthen the sick. The fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment."

²³ "'I will place one shepherd over them, my servant David. He will take care of them. He will take care of them and be their shepherd.

²⁴ And my servant David will be king over them and they all will have one shepherd. They will also walk in my ordinances and observe my statutes and do them.

³⁸ Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

²⁸ Keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.

⁹ Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not much more submit to the Father of our spirits and live?

² Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires. ³ not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

² I am one hundred and twenty years old this day. I can no more go out and come in, and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not go over this Jordan'.

²⁰ and we will be like all other nations. And our king shall judge us, and go out before us and fight our battles."

¹³ So Saul sent him away. He put him in command of a thousand men. David led his men in battle.

² In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel out and in. the LORD said to you, 'You will be shepherd of my people Israel, and you will be prince over Israel.'”

⁷ Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.

¹⁷ Micaiah answered: "I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd." the LORD said: "These men have no leader. Let them go home in peace."

¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?”

⁵ And they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, and were scattered.

⁷ “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says the LORD of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

⁶ Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.

²⁴ He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

³⁴ When Jesus stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find any man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?

⁹ Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some men for us and go out to fight against the Amalekites. Tomorrow I'll stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand."

¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you there; I will take away from the spirit that is on you, and I will place it on them; and they will bear the burdens of the people with you; you will not bear it alone.

²⁵ the LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. ²⁶ Two of the seventy elders, Eldad and Medad, stayed in the camp and did not go out to the tent. There in the camp the Spirit came on them, and they too began to shout like prophets. ²⁷ A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." ²⁸ Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' helper since he was a young man, spoke up and said to Moses: "Stop them, sir!" ²⁹ Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD's people were prophets, that the LORD would put his Spirit on them."

⁸ from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;

¹⁶ These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. But Moses gave Hoshea, son of Nun, the name Joshua.

²³ and he laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the LORD spoke by Moses.

²⁸ But commission Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see."

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance. ⁸ the LORD himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.”

²³ the LORD gave this command to Joshua, son of Nun: "Be strong and courageous, because you will bring the Israelites into the land that I swore to give them, and I will be with you."

⁹ Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had placed his hands on him, and the Israelites listened to him, and they did as the LORD had commanded Moses.

¹⁰ And the spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the LORD gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into his hand, and he prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.

²⁹ And the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh. He passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed through to the Ammonites.

¹³ Then Samuel took the bottle of oil, and put the oil on him there among his brothers: and from that day the spirit of the Lord came on David with power. So Samuel went back to Ramah. ¹⁴ Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.

¹⁸ Then one of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skilful in playing, a mighty man of valour, a man of war, who speaks well and is good-looking, and the LORD is with him.

¹⁴ I've heard about you, that a spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, discernment, and extraordinary wisdom.

³⁴ For the One whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

³ Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will appoint this responsibility to them

⁶ They presented these seven to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

¹⁵ They on arrival prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶ For the Holy Spirit had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁷ Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, "Give me also this power, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

³ So after they had fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

⁶ And when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

⁴ There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ There are different ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all men. ⁷ Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. ⁸ To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.

¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you through prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands on you.

²² Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.

² instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

¹ Then he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. ³ And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, no staff, no bag, no bread, no money; not even an extra tunic. ⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that area. ⁵ If anyone does not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that town, as a testimony against them.”

² And He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest. ³ Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry no purse or bag or sandals. Do not greet anyone along the road. ⁵ And whenever you go into a house, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. ⁷ Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house. ⁸ If you enter a town and they welcome you, eat whatever is set before you. ⁹ Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’ ¹⁰ But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ¹¹ ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off as a testimony against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’

²⁸ Keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood. ²⁹ I know that after my departure, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. ³⁰ Even from your own number, men will rise up and distort the truth to draw away disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore be alert and remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

¹⁷ Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

²¹ I charge you, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, doing nothing out of favoritism.

¹³ I charge you in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession; ¹⁴ to keep this commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ Which he will bring about in his own time, he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ¹⁶ who alone has immortality, residing in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see; to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen. ¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be arrogant, nor to set their hopes on such an uncertain thing as riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

¹ I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom: ² preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction. ³ For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. ⁴ So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. ⁵ But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. ⁶ For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is near.

¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, All that you have commanded us we will do and wherever you send us we will go. ¹⁷ Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you, as he was with Moses. ¹⁸ Whoever rebels against your orders and does not obey your words according to what you commanded us will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous."

⁶ The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you'll prophesy with them and be changed into a different person.

⁹ When Saul had turned to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all those signs happened that day.

⁹ When they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you. Elisha said, Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me. ¹⁰ And he said, You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be so to you, but if not, it will not be so.

¹⁵ And when the sons of the prophets across in Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests upon Elisha! And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

²³ So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in the place of his father David. He prospered, and all of Israel obeyed him.

²⁵ The LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

³⁰ You will put the Urim and the Thummim into the breastplate of judgment, and they will come to be on Aaron's heart when he enters before the LORD. Thus Aaron will bear the judgment of the sons of Israel on his heart before the LORD continually.

⁸ He placed the breastplate on him. He put the Urim and Thummim in the breastplate.

¹⁷ And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd.

⁸ About Levi he said:May your Thummim and your Urim be for your benign man whom you probed at Massah; you contended with him at the waters of Meribah,

¹⁴ The men sampled their provisions but did not ask for counsel from the LORD.

¹ After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked the LORD (YHWH), saying: "Who will go first to fight against the Canaanites for us?"

¹⁸ The Israelites went up to Bethel and asked counsel of God. They said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? the LORD said, Judah first.

²³ They went up and wept before the LORD until evening, and they asked the LORD, Shall we go up to fight again against the Benjamites, our brothers? the LORD said, Go up against them.

²⁶ Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel and wept and sat there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening. They offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD. ²⁷ And the Israelites inquired of the LORD (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there, ²⁸ and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron ministered before it), Shall we yet again go out to fight against Benjamin our brother, or not? the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

¹⁰ Ahimelech inquired of the LORD for him, gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine." ¹¹ Then the king sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub's and his entire family who were the priests in Nob. All of them came to the king. ¹² Saul said: "Listen here, son of Ahitub!" He responded: "Here I am lord." ¹³ Saul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as he does today? ¹⁴ Ahimelech answered the king, "Who among all your officials is as faithful as David? He is the king's son-in-law, the captain of your bodyguard, and he's honored in your household. ¹⁵ Is this the first time I have inquired of God for him? Be it far from me! Don't let the king accuse his servant or any of the house of my father, for your servant knows nothing at all of all this.

⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here."

⁶ And Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Ahimelech, Bring the ephod here to me.

⁶³ The governor told them that they should not eat of the most holy things, until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

⁶⁵ The governor ordered them not to eat anything holy until a priest would be installed with Urim and Thummim.

¹⁹ Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and commission him in their sight.
