He that hates reproof is stupid. ² A good man shall obtain favor from the LORD, but he will condemn a man of wicked plans. ³ A person doesn't gain security by wickedness, but the righteous won't be uprooted. ⁴ A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones. ⁵ The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. ⁶ The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright delivers them. ⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand. ⁸ A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a warped mind shall be despised. ⁹ It's better to be unimportant, yet have a servant, than to pretend to be important, but lack food. ¹⁰ A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. ¹¹ He who works his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows worthless things lacks ⌊sense⌋. ¹² The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes. ¹³ An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble. ¹⁴ From the fruit of a man's mouth he can be satisfied with good As surely as the requital of a man's hands returns to him. ¹⁵ The ways of fools are straight before them; but the wise listens to advice. ¹⁶ A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent. ¹⁷ He who is truthful testifies honestly, but a false witness lies. ¹⁸ The babbler is like the stabs of a sword; and the tongue of the wise is healing. ¹⁹ Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary. ²⁰ Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but joy comes to the promoters of peace. ²¹ No harm overwhelms the righteous, but the wicked overflow with trouble. ²² The LORD abhoreth deceitful lips; but they that labour for truth please him. ²³ A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness. ²⁴ The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. ²⁵ Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad. ²⁶ A righteous person is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. ²⁷ The lazy one does not start after his game, but the wealth of a hard worker is precious. ²⁸ On the path of righteousness there is life; and on her pathway there is immortality,

⁹ Do not be like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding, who are controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to you.

⁶ An animal-like man does not know; a fool does not understand this.

²⁷ Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.

⁹⁷ O How I love your law! It is my meditation all day long. ⁹⁸ Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, because they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more insight than all my teachers, for your laws are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I have more common sense than the elders, for I observe your precepts.

¹⁰ For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. ¹¹ Discretion will protect you; understanding will watch over you,

¹² And you say, How I have hated discipline, And my heart has spurned correction!" ¹³ I did not obey my teachers and did not listen to my instructors.

¹⁷ I love those who love me, and those who seek me will find me.

³² Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.

⁷ He who corrects a mocker invites insult; he who reproves a wicked man invites abuse. ⁸ Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.

¹⁰ Severe discipline belongs to him who forsakes the way; he who hates a rebuke will die.

¹ An unfriendly man pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel doesn't know, my people do not understand.

¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

¹⁵ The nations have sunk into the pit they made; their foot is caught in the net they hid.

⁵ Well will it be with the man who is kind, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with justice.

³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with the fruit of their own schemes.

¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

³⁵ For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from the LORD.

⁸ Just as no human being has control over the wind to restrain it, so also no human being has control over the day of his death. Just as no one is discharged during war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

⁵ The fool will no longer be called noble, nor the scoundrel be highly respected. ⁶ For the fool speaks foolishness, and his heart works iniquity, to do ungodliness; and to speak error against the LORD, to make the hungry soul empty; and he causes the drink of the thirsty to fail. ⁷ And a scoundrel, his weapons are evil; he plans evil devices to ruin the poor with words of deception even when the speech of the needy is right.

²⁴ Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

⁷ It is rare indeed for anyone to die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

³³ and your discretion is blessed and you are blessed, who have kept me this day from blood guiltiness and from avenging myself with my own hand.

³ I have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and are crushed in the gate, with none to deliver them. ⁵ The hungry eat his harvest, and take him to the thorns, and the snare snuffs up their wealth.

²⁹ "He will no longer be rich and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the land.

⁵ "The success of the wicked is brief and the joy of the godless lasts but a moment. ⁶ "Though his pride reaches to the heavens and his head touches the clouds, ⁷ he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say: Where is he? ⁸ Like a dream that has fled away, he shall not be found; and he has fled like a vision of the night. ⁹ "The eye that saw him will not see him again. His place (home) will look on him no more.

¹⁶ "Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, ¹⁷ what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver. ¹⁸ "The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.

⁵ He does not lend his money at interest, and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

¹ A song of ascents. Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. ² As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people from this time forth and forevermore.

²⁵ When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the righteous stand firm forever.

¹² The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.

¹⁷ so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

⁷ rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

¹ The wise woman built her house but the foolish will pull it down with her hands.

³⁰ A quiet mind is the life of the body, but envy is a disease in the bones.

¹³ A stupid son is woe to his father, And a quarrelsome wife like a persistent leaking." ¹⁴ House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

⁹ It's better to live in a corner on the roof than to share a house with a contentious woman.

¹⁹ Better to dwell in a desert land, than with a woman, quarrelsome and provoking.

¹⁵ A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike: ¹⁶ restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand.

¹⁰ A woman of valour who can find? for her price is far above rubies. ¹¹ Her husband safely trusts in her; as a result, he lacks nothing of value. ¹² She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool and flax, and works eagerly with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like the merchant ships, she brings in her food from afar. ¹⁵ She gets up while it is still night, and gives meat to her family, and their food to her servant-girls. ¹⁶ She considers a field, and buys it. With the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She girds her loins with strength, and makes strong her arms. ¹⁸ She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out by night. ¹⁹ She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. ²⁰ She opens her arms to the poor; yes, she extends her hands to the needy. ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet. ²² She makes for herself coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple. ²³ Her husband is respected in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. ²⁴ She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers sashes to the merchant. ²⁵ She puts on strength and beauty, and is glad in the last days.

¹⁶ I heard and my body trembled! My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness entered into my bones and I tremble. I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the people who invade us.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

¹¹ In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. ³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, too much to detect and hate his sin. ³ The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good. ⁴ He plans sin on his bed. He puts himself on a way that is not good. He does not reject evil.

⁶ And when one comes to see me, he speaks falsely; his heart gathers disaster for itself. He goes out to the street; he speaks. ⁷ All who hate me whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me.

¹⁵ I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

¹ For the music director. A psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men. Preserve me from violent men, ² who craft evil plans in their minds, inciting wars every day. ³ They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah

²³ ¶ The desire of the righteous is only good, but the hope of the wicked is wrath.

⁹ The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹⁴ "O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

³ When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ So he called together all the high priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Christ was to be born. ⁵ “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: ⁶ 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" ⁷ Then Herod called the Magi secretly and learned from them the exact time the star had appeared. ⁸ He also sent them to Bethlehem, telling them, "Go and make a careful search for the child, and when you have found him report to me, so that I may go and worship him too."

¹⁶ When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was filled with rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the Magi.

⁴ and they plotted to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

² But we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹ Later Ahithophel said to Absalom: »Let me choose twelve thousand men. Tonight I will set out after David. ² and I will come upon him when he is weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will smite the king only of all. ³ and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned, so all the people will be in peace. ⁴ The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

⁷ Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and the exact sum of money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the destruction of the Jews. ⁸ Mordecai gave Hathach a copy of the written decree ordering the Jews' destruction that that had been issued in Susa. Mordecai wanted him to show it to Esther, to explain it to her, and then to instruct her to go in to the king to seek his favor and plead with him for her people. ⁹ Hathach went and told Esther what Mordecai had said. ¹⁰ Then Esther sent Hathach to say to Mordecai: ¹¹ "Every servant of the king and every person in the king's provinces knows that for any man or woman who goes to the king in the inner court without being summoned there is only one law that he be put to death unless the king holds out the golden scepter to him. Only then he will live. For these last 30 days I've not been summoned to come to the king." ¹² And they said these words to Mordecai. ¹³ Mordecai sent this answer back to Esther: "Do not have the idea that you in the king's house will be safe from the fate of all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

⁴ I and my people have been sold to be destroyed and killed, to be annihilated. If we had been sold as male and female slaves I would have kept quiet, because this is not a need sufficient to trouble the king." ⁵ And the king said, Who is he who hath dared to do such a thing? ⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this evil Haman!" And Haman was terrified before the king and queen.

¹¹ If they say: 'Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us lurk for the innocent without cause; ¹² Let's swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down into the pit. ¹³ We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with plunder. ¹⁴ Throw in your lot with us. We'll all have one purse." ¹⁵ My son, do not go along with them, and keep your feet away from their paths! ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood. ¹⁷ Look, it is useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds, ¹⁸ but these people lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush only themselves. ¹⁹ Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it.

³ The fool's talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.

⁷ Their feet run to do evil. They hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil. Ruin and destruction are on their highways.

²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men, that lie in wait as fowlers, setting snares and traps to catch men.

¹ Misery is mine! Indeed, I am like one who gathers the summer fruits, as gleanings of the vineyard: There is no cluster of grapes to eat. My soul desires to eat the early fig. ² The pious has perished from the earth, and the upright is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net.

¹² When daylight came, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁵ Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him down to you on the pretext of examining his case more carefully. We are ready to kill him on the way.”

³ as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.

¹⁶ Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before you; your throne shall be established forever." '"

²⁶ Your name shall be great forever, and they will say, 'the LORD Almighty is God over Israel'; and the house of your servant David shall be established before you.

⁶ In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the vexer of the Jews. But they did not lay their hands on the spoil.

¹⁴ So the king ordered it to be done in this way; an edict was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman.

²⁰ "But the eyes of the wicked will fail and they will not escape. Their hope will become a dying gasp."

¹⁵ "Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur is scattered over his dwelling. ¹⁶ "His roots dry up below and his branches wither above. ¹⁷ "The memory of him perishes from the earth. He has no name in the street. ¹⁸ "He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world. ¹⁹ "He has no offspring or descendants among his people, no survivor where once he lived. ²⁰ "Men of the west are appalled at him. Men of the east are seized with horror.

¹⁸ "The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman. ¹⁹ He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night. ²¹ "The east wind carries him off. He is gone and it sweeps him out of his place. ²² "It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power. ²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

²⁵ Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth [them] in the night, and they are crushed.

¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn’t there.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading like a green tree in its native soil: ³⁶ yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not; and I looked for him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Observe the blameless, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace.

¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.

²¹ Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.

¹¹ The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

²⁵ The LORD will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow's borders intact.

³ By wisdom a house is built; and by understanding it is established. ⁴ by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. ²⁵ The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. ²⁶ But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. ²⁷ The rain came down, the floods rose, the winds blew and beat upon that house, and down it fell — with a mighty crash."

³⁹ Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all of this known to you there is no one as discerning and wise as you.

¹³ Then Samuel said to Saul, "You have behaved foolishly! You have not kept the command of the LORD your God which he commanded you. For then, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

¹⁸ Then one of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skilful in playing, a mighty man of valour, a man of war, who speaks well and is good-looking, and the LORD is with him.

³⁰ The Philistine commanders would go out to fight and whenever they did, David was more successful than any of Saul's other leaders. His name was held in high esteem.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on himself, his crown will be resplendent."

²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,

³⁵ The wise inherit honor, but the foolish exalt shame.

²³ He will die for lack of discipline, and he goes astray because of his great folly.

¹ Who is as the wise? Who knows the interpretation of a word? Human wisdom lights his face and the strength of his face changes.

² Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁸ "But you priests turned aside from the way, and by your teaching you caused many to stumble. You have violated the covenant of Levi," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. ⁹ And I have made you despised and cast out among all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law.

⁴ "I have sinned," he said, "in betraying innocent blood!" "What is that to us?" they answered; "you must see to that." ⁵ So Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

⁴² And the Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their portion at the proper time? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master finds doing so when he returns. ⁴⁴ I tell you truly that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

⁸ The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the sons of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the sons of light.

²³ Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

¹⁰ By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise master builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds. ¹¹ For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, ¹³ his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. ¹⁴ If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward. ¹⁵ If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as one being snatched from the fire.

¹⁸ For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

⁷ One person pretends to be wealthy, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet is rich.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

¹³ Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die. ¹⁴ Let my lord pass on before his servant and I will move along slowly at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me, and at the pace of the children until I come to my lord in Seir."

²⁶ Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? ²⁷ "Let us sell him to the Ishmaelites. Let us not hurt him, because he is our brother, our own flesh and blood." His brothers agreed. ²⁸ Some of the Midianite traders approached. The brothers pulled Joseph out of the well and sold him for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites. They took him to Egypt.

²⁸ And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times? ²⁹ Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you made a mockery of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now!" ³⁰ The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life until this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" He said, "No." ³¹ And the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the road with His sword drawn in His hand. And he bowed and fell on his face. ³² The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Look, I have come forth as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me:

⁴ "Don't muzzle an ox while it is threshing grain."

⁷ Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; just as I have done, so God has repaid to me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

² Nahash the Ammonite said to them, "I'll make a covenant with you on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel."

¹¹ “Sir,” the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water?

³¹ It was the day of Preparation, and the next day was a High Sabbath. In order that the bodies would not remain on the cross during the Sabbath, the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies removed. ³² So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and those of the other.

¹³ For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment. ¹⁴ What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? ¹⁵ Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. ¹⁶ If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?

¹⁷ If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

⁴ They gave him seventy pieces of silver from the temple of Baal-Berith. Abimelech hired worthless and reckless men to join him.

⁴ I do not sit with deceitful people, nor will I go about with hypocrites.

² for you eat the labor of your palms; blithed - and good with you

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not comply with them;"

¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked. Do not walk in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it; do not pass by it; turn from it, and pass on!

³² He who commits adultery with a woman lacks judgment and destroys himself.

⁷ And I saw among the simple, I observed among the youth, a young man lacking ⌊sense⌋,

⁶ Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."

¹³ The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and without knowledge.

¹⁶ Whoever is gullible, turn in here! - and to whoever lacks heart, she says,

²⁰ One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

²³ An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but injustice sweeps it away.

⁴ When there are no oxen the manger is empty, but an abundance of crops comes by the strength of an ox.

²³ In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

²⁷ There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.

¹⁹ One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

⁸ Those who cling to vain idols leave behind the gracious love that could have been theirs.

²⁸ He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need.

¹¹ Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, ¹² so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anyone.

⁸ nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ They must be silenced, for such men upset whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach, for the sake of dishonest gain.

³ He is like a tree planted by streams of water. It yields its fruit in season and its leaves do not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.

¹⁵ The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.

⁶ In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill the entire world with fruit.

³¹ »‘Again a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.

²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men, that lie in wait as fowlers, setting snares and traps to catch men. ²⁷ Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and grown rich. ²⁸ and have grown fat and sleek. There is no limit to their evil deeds. They don't argue the case of the orphan to secure justice. They don't defend the rights of the poor.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose confidence is in the LORD. ⁸ "For he will be like a tree planted by the water. It extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes. Its leaves will be green. It will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.

² The pious has perished from the earth, and the upright is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net.

¹⁵ He takes up all of them with the hook; he catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad. ¹⁶ Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good. ¹⁷ Will they keep on emptying their nets and keep on destroying nations without mercy?

¹³ And those upon the rock are those who receive the word with joy when they hear; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of testing fall away. ¹⁴ The seeds that fell among the thorns are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature. ¹⁵ But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop.

⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing.

¹⁶ It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you, and I appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that should remain, so that the Father might grant you whatever you ask in my Name.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

¹⁶ the Angel who delivered me from all evils, bless these children! And let them be called by my name and by the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaak; and may they be increased to a great multitude on the earth!

⁹ And David answered Rechab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life out of all distress,

²³ Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me and so thereto if Adonijah have not spoken this word against himself.

⁶ You destroy speakers of lies. A man of bloodshed and deceit the LORD abhors.

¹⁹ A righteous person will have many troubles, but the LORD will deliver him from them all.

⁸ Their own tongues shall ruin them; all who see them will shake their heads.

² If you have been trapped by words of your mouth, Have been seized by sayings of your mouth,

⁸ The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.

² The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.

⁶ A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings. ⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

²³ He who guards his mouth and his tongue Keeps his soul from distresses.

¹⁸ It is good to take hold of the one and also must not let go of the other; for whoever fears God will hold both of them secure.

²⁴ Then the king gave orders to bring those men who had tried to have Daniel devoured, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions' pit. They had not reached the floor of the pit before the lions had overtaken them and crushed all their bones.

²⁵ All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children."

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ³⁶ As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” ³⁷ No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

⁹ if all this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

⁵ My soul will be satisfied as with the best and richest food, and with joyful lips my mouth will praise.

² By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful crave violence.

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and how good is a word in its season!

²⁰ With the fruits of his mouth a man filleth his belly, and with the fruits of his lips he shall be satisfied. ²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat its fruit.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

⁴¹ Every one who receives a prophet, because he is a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward, and every one who receives a righteous man, because he is a righteous man, will receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

²⁷ For the Son of Man will come in His Father’s glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done.

⁶ For truly God's justice must render back trouble to those who are troubling you, ⁷ and to grant relief to you who are oppressed, and to us as well, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels

² For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment,

²⁶ He thought that being insulted for the sake of the Messiah was of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

⁵ Let the wise listen and increase their learning; let the person of understanding receive guidance

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁹ Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.

¹² There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.

² All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.

²⁵ There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

²⁰ Listen to advice and accept instruction so that you will gain wisdom for your future.

² Every way of a man seemeth right to himself: but the Lord weigheth the hearts.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹⁶ A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.

¹² A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

¹³ Better is a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth no more how to be admonished.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? If I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.” ¹⁶ Then King Zedekiah, in secret, swore an oath to Jeremiah: "As surely as the LORD lives, who gave us this life to live, I won't have you put to death, nor will I hand you over to these men who are seeking to kill you." ¹⁷ Then I told Zedekiah that the LORD, the God of Israel said: "If you surrender to the king of Babylon's officers, your life will be spared, and this city will not be burned down. Both you and your family will be spared. ¹⁸ But if you don't surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be given to the Chaldeans, and they'll burn it with fire. You won't escape from their hands.'" ¹⁹ Then King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "I'm afraid of the Judeans who have gone over to the Chaldeans. The Chaldeans may turn me over to them, and they may treat me harshly." ²⁰ I said: "You will not be handed over to them. I beg you to obey the LORD’s message. Then all will go well with you, and your life will be spared. ²¹ But if you refuse to surrender, this is what the LORD has shown me: ²² Look, all the women who are left in the house of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officers of the king of Babylon, and will say, 'These friends of yours have mislead you and overcome you. Your feet have sunk down into the mire, but they have turned away.' ²³ Then I added: "All your women and children will be taken out to the Babylonians. You will not escape from them. You will be taken prisoner by the king of Babylonia. And this city will be burned to the ground." ²⁴ Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "Don't let anyone know about these words and you won't die. ²⁵ If the officials hear that I've spoken with you, and they come to you and say, 'Tell us what you said to the king, and what the king said to you; don't hide it from us, and we won't put you to death,' ²⁶ "Just tell them you were begging me not to send you back to prison to die there." ²⁷ When all the officials came to Jeremiah and questioned him, he replied to them exactly as the king had ordered him. So they stopped speaking with him because the conversation had not been overheard. ²⁸ And Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was captured. And it happened that Jerusalem was captured.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

³ If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

³⁰ Then Saul's anger burned against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse rebellious woman, don't I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ As long as Jesse's son lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established! Now send someone and bring David to me. He's a dead man!" ³² And Jonathan answered Saul, Why is he to die? What has he done? ³³ Then Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. So Jonathan knew that his father had decided to kill David. ³⁴ Jonathan got up from the table enraged, and did not eat on the second day of the new moon because he was upset about David, because his father had disgraced him.

¹ Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "Thus may the gods do to me, and may they add to it, surely at this time tomorrow I will make your life as the life of one of them!"

¹² Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.

³³ Wisdom rests in the heart of the intelligent, but among fools it is revealed.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life unto him that hath it; but folly is the chastisement of fools.

⁹ He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.

²⁸ A city breached, without walls that's what a man is who has no self-control.

¹¹ A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.

¹⁹ My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

¹⁴ Ahimelech answered the king, "Who among all your officials is as faithful as David? He is the king's son-in-law, the captain of your bodyguard, and he's honored in your household. ¹⁵ Is this the first time I have inquired of God for him? Be it far from me! Don't let the king accuse his servant or any of the house of my father, for your servant knows nothing at all of all this.

¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

⁵ A truthful witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies.

²⁵ A truthful witness saves souls, but a false witness is deceitful.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished; he who pours out lies shall not go free.

²⁸ A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.

²⁸ A false witness will perish, but whoever listens will testify successfully.

²⁸ Don't testify against your neighbor without a cause, and don't lie when you speak.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death.

¹³ They presented false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking against this holy place and against the Law.

¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

² Your tongue devises woes, Like a honed razor, you who practice deceit."

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ See what pours out of their mouths, swords from their lips! They think: Who will hear us?

³ who sharpen their tongues like swords, and aim their bitter words like arrows,

²² For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

²⁰ The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

¹⁷ A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.

⁴ A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.

⁷ The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.

²⁴ Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹⁸ Like a club and sword and a sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.

³³ “Those who are wise among the people will instruct many; yet they will fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder, many days.

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁶ In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword. His face was like the sun when it shines with full force.

² through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

⁵ "The success of the wicked is brief and the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.

⁴ You love all pernicious words, O you deceitful tongue." ⁵ but God will pull you down forever. He will snatch you and tear you away from your tent, and he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

⁹ A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will perish.

⁴ "Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Return from your evil ways and your evil deeds!" ' But they did not hear and they did not pay attention to me," declares the LORD. ⁵ Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever? ⁶ However, did not my words and my regulations which I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors? And they repented and said, 'the LORD of hosts planned to do with us according to our ways, and according to our deeds so he has dealt with us.'" '"

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land? ⁴ Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!” ⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened. ⁶ Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. ⁷ About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened; ⁸ “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.” ⁹ Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too." ¹⁰ At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and found her dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

²⁴ A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart. ²⁵ When his speech is charming, do not believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

¹⁶ I haven't run away from being your shepherd, and I haven't longed for the day of sickness. You know what comes out from my lips, it's open before you.

¹³ And he will build the temple of the LORD, and he will bear majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two of them." '

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

²¹ For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²² Greed, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;

¹⁴ They came up and said to him, "Teacher, we know you are sincere and fearless; you do not court human favour, you teach the Way of God honestly. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? ¹⁵ Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why do you put me to the test? Bring me a denarius, and let me look at it." ¹⁶ They brought one; and He asked them, "Whose is this likeness and this inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. ¹⁷ Jesus said to them, Give to Caesar what is CaesarÆs, and to God what is GodÆs. And they were amazed at him.

²⁹ They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and hatred. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,

¹⁴ Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

⁸ Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble in spirit. ⁹ Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. ¹⁰ For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. ¹¹ He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." ¹³ Who will harm you if you are eager to do good?

¹⁰ No harm will befall you, and no plague will come near your tent.

¹⁴ The faithless one will be repaid for his ways, but a good man will be rewarded for his.

¹² "This is what you're to tell them: 'This is what the LORD God of Israel says: "Every wineskin is to be filled with wine."' When they say to you, 'Don't we know very well that every wineskin is to be filled with wine?', ¹³ then say to them, 'This is what the LORD says: "I'm about to make all the inhabitants of this land drunk the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the residents of Jerusalem. ¹⁴ I'll smash them against each other, even fathers against their sons," declares the LORD. "I'll have no pity, mercy, or compassion when I destroy them."'"

¹⁶ You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink, and be exposed. The cup of the LORD's right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.

²⁸ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Kephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future-all things are yours! ²³ And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

¹⁷ For our light and temporary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that far outweighs our troubles.

¹³ Who will harm you if you are eager to do good?

⁶ Give back to her as she has done to others; pay her back double for what she has done; mix her a double portion in her own cup.

¹⁶ Here are six things that the LORD hates seven, in fact, are detestable to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹ A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.

²⁰ The LORD abhorreth a fained heart; but he hath pleasure in them that are undefiled.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

¹⁵ Elders and dignitaries are the head, and prophets who teach lies are the tail.

²⁴ but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.

¹⁹ You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die, and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies."

²² ‘»You have discouraged righteous people with your lies, even though I had not brought them any grief. You encouraged wicked people not to turn from their wicked ways to save their lives.

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

¹⁴ Wise ones store up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise.

¹³ Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.

¹⁶ Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.

³ Even when the fool walks along the road, he lacks sense; he tells everyone that he is a fool.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips. ¹³ the beginning of the words of his mouth are folly, and the end of his mouth is wicked madness. ¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

¹⁵ "When he sees that his resting place is good and that the land is pleasant, he will bend his back to the burden and will become a slave laborer.

²¹ their children who remained after them in the land, whom the Israelites were not able to completely destroy, Solomon conscripted them for forced labor, until this very day.

²⁸ The man Jeroboam was a brave man; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labour of the house of Joseph.

²⁰ When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was no one who followed David’s house, except for the tribe of Judah only.

⁴ Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands lead to wealth.

²⁷ The lazy one does not start after his game, but the wealth of a hard worker is precious.

⁴ The lazy person craves, yet receives nothing, but the desires of the diligent are satisfied.

² A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame and share the inheritance among the brothers.

¹⁵ Laziness puts one to sleep, and an idle person will go hungry.

²⁵ What the lazy person craves will kill him, because his hands refuse to work. ²⁶ All day he craves a craving, but the righteous will give and not hold back.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."

²⁹ Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding: ³¹ Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I myself set my heart on what I was perceiving; I took admonition from what I saw: ³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: ³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets." ¹⁴ As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. ¹⁶ A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.

¹ In the month Nisan in the twentieth year of king Artaxerxes, when the wine stood before him, I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king and I was heavy in his presence. ² So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad since you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart." And I was very much afraid.

⁶ I am bowed down; I am bent over greatly. All the day I go about mourning.

¹¹ Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God. For I shall still praise him, my salvation and my God.

¹⁸ The babbler is like the stabs of a sword; and the tongue of the wise is healing.

¹⁰ The heart knows its own bitterness; and no one else can share its joy.

¹³ A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but an aching heart breaks the spirit.

¹⁵ All the days of the afflicted are evil; but a cheerful heart is a continual feast.

²² A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

¹⁴ A man's spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

⁹ Perfume and incense will gladden a heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend is ⌊personal advice⌋.

⁴ The Sovereign LORD has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned.

¹³ So the LORD gave a loving and comfortable answer unto the angel that talked with me.

³³ He took Peter, James, and John along with him, and he began to feel distressed and troubled. ³⁴ And He said to them: “My soul is overwhelmed with grief, to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch.”

⁴ For I wrote you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you. ⁵ So, if anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has all of you, to some extent—not to be too ‘heavy’. ⁶ The punishment imposed on him by the majority is sufficient for him. ⁷ So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

³ As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.

¹² Out of the brightness in front of him, those rain clouds passed by with hailstones and lightning. ¹³ Then the Lord thundered from heaven, the Most High uttered his voice:

¹³ An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.

²⁷ He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.

⁴⁶ If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same? ⁴⁸ Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

³² If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those doing good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. ³⁶ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

¹³ When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. ¹⁴ But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.

¹⁸ Servants, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but even to those who are unreasonable. ¹⁹ For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God. ²⁰ How is it to your credit if you are beaten for doing wrong and you endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. ²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,

¹⁸ With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice the ones who are just escaping from those who live in error. ¹⁹ They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to corruption. For a man is a slave to whatever has overcome him. ²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by them, and overcome, they are worse off in the end than at the beginning. ²¹ It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to know it and turn their backs on the holy commandment that was committed to them. ²² Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.”

²⁶ I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.

⁹ And the great dragon was hurled down—the ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

¹⁴ Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.

¹⁶ Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked.

¹⁶ Better is little, with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure with trouble.

⁸ Better is a little with righteousness Than much income with injustice.

² and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.

¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

¹⁵ "See, I am setting before you today life and prosperity and death and disaster;

¹¹ For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.

¹⁶ The labor of the righteous leads to life. The yield of the wicked is punishment.

¹⁹ To acquire righteousness leads to life, Yet he who pursues evil goes to his death."

⁹ '"if he lives by my rules and obeys my laws faithfully this person is righteous. He will certainly live,' declares the Sovereign LORD.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it will die. The son will not bear the iniquity of the father, nor will the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of a righteous man will be upon him and the wickedness of a wicked man will be upon him. ²¹ But if a wicked man turns from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he will surely live. He will not die. ²² None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done he will live. ²³ '"Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Sovereign LORD, that he should turn from his ways and live? ²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.

²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness, to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² It trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and Godly lives in this present age,

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that every one who does right has been born of him.

⁷ Dear children, let no one lead you astray. The man who acts righteously is righteous, just as He is righteous.

¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The person who does what is good is from God. The person who does what is evil has never seen God.
