I am clean and without sin?" ¹⁰ Differing weights and differing measures, both of them are an abomination to the LORD. ¹¹ Even a child is known by his actions, whether his deeds are pure and right. ¹² The ear that hears and the eye that sees, the LORD has made them both. ¹³ Do not love sleep or you'll become poor, keep your eyes open and you'll have plenty of food. ¹⁴ "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts. ¹⁵ There is gold and abundance of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel. ¹⁶ Take the garment of anyone who puts up collateral for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he does it for an unfamiliar woman. ¹⁷ Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but later his mouth will be full of gravel. ¹⁸ Make plans by seeking advice; make war by obtaining guidance. ¹⁹ A gossip reveals secrets. So avoid a man who speaks flattering words. ²⁰ He who curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in obscure darkness. ²¹ An inheritance quickly obtained at the beginning will not be blessed at the end. ²² Don't say "I'll avenge that wrong!" Wait on the LORD and he will deliver you. ²³ The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing. ²⁴ A man's steps are directed by the LORD; how then can anyone understand his own way? ²⁵ It is a snare to the man to declare something is holy, and afterward to reconsider his vows. ²⁶ A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them. ²⁷ The lamp of the LORD is the spirit of humankind, he who searches every ⌊innermost part⌋. ²⁸ Gracious love and truth preserve a king; through love his throne is made secure. ²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength; and the splendor of elders is their gray hair. ³⁰ Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.

²¹ He drank some of its wine. He became drunk and lay undressed inside his tent. ²² Ham, father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside. ²³ Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders. Then they walked in backward and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father's nakedness.

³⁶ When Abigail came to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his home. It was like a king's banquet. He was in a good mood and very drunk, so she did not tell him anything until dawn. ³⁷ In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him what had happened; and his heart failed and he became like a stone. ³⁸ About ten days later the LORD struck Nabal, and he died.

¹³ And David invited him, and he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. And in the evening he went out to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, but did not go down to his house.

²⁸ Absalom commanded his servants saying, Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon', then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? ³⁰ To those who linger over wine, to those who come to try mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. ³² In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper. ³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things. ³⁴ Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging: ³⁵ "They struck me," you will say, "but I never felt it. They beat me, but I never knew it When will I wake up? I want another drink."

⁴ It is not for kings, Lemuel Not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire liquor.

²² Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

⁷ These also stagger from wine and reel from beer. Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine. They reel from beer. They stagger when seeing visions. They stumble when rendering decisions.

¹² "Come, each one cries, let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better."

¹¹ Prostitution and wine and new wine take away the understanding.

⁵ The day of our king, the princes began to be mad with wine: he stretched out his hand with scorners.

¹⁵ "Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, pouring your inflaming wine until they are drunk, so that you may gaze at their naked bodies. ¹⁶ You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink, and be exposed. The cup of the LORD's right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

²¹ and envy; drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁸ Do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

³⁸ The censers of these who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into gilded leafing plating for the altar; because they presented them before the LORD, they are holy; and they will be a sign for the Israelites.'"

²³ Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me and so thereto if Adonijah have not spoken this word against himself.

³⁶ "But he who sins against me wrongs himself. All who hate me love death."

¹⁴ The king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it. ¹⁵ The light of the king's face causes life. His favor is like a gentle rain in spring.

¹² The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

⁴ If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your post, for calmness can undo great offenses.

¹⁰ "They will follow the LORD! He will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west.

⁸ The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken; who will not prophesy?

¹⁰ You have plotted shame for your house, cutting off many peoples and sinning against your life.

⁹ But Joash king of Israel sent again to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "A thistle in Lebanon sent to a cypress tree in Lebanon, saying, 'Give thy daughter to my son to wife.' But the wild beasts in Lebanon went and trod down the thistle.

¹⁷ A quick tempered person does foolish things, and a devious man is hated.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

³² One slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

¹⁴ Starting a quarrel is like spilling water so drop the dispute before it escalates.

⁶ A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.

¹¹ The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

²⁴ "Proud and haughty mocker" is his name. He acts with overbearing pride.

⁸ Do not run quickly to court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame. ⁹ Instead, take up the matter with your neighbor, and don't betray another person's confidence. ¹⁰ lest he who hears shame you and your ill repute will not end.

⁶ to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One. ⁷ In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; ⁸ that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

³² Be kind and tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth.

¹ What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you?

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest! ¹¹ and your poverty will come on you like a bandit and your desperation like an armed man.

⁴ Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands lead to wealth.

⁴ The lazy person craves, yet receives nothing, but the desires of the diligent are satisfied.

¹⁵ Laziness puts one to sleep, and an idle person will go hungry.

²⁴ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it back to his mouth.

³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets." ¹⁴ As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. ¹⁵ The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. ¹⁶ A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.

³ The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them. ⁴ But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps. ⁵ The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. ⁶ At midnight the cry went out: ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ ⁷ Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ ⁹ ‘No,’ said the wise ones, ‘or there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ ¹⁰ But while they were on their way to buy it, the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ So in my fear, I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what belongs to you.’ ²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed? ²⁷ Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. ²⁸ "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.

⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; ⁶ and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; ⁷ and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. ⁸ For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brethren, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall; ¹¹ and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

⁶ They plot injustice, saying, We have made a perfect plan! Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

⁴ The words of a man`s mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.

¹¹ For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit which is in him? Even so no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

¹ Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men

¹⁴ As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.

² May another praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.

²⁸ What my heart sought, I did not find. Although I found one righteous man among one thousand, I did not find one upright woman among all these.

¹ "Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, and look please, and take note, and search at its public squares, if you can find a person who does justice, who seeks honesty, so that I may forgive it.

² The pious has perished from the earth, and the upright is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net.

² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁸ I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

²⁸ Peter said: "Indeed we have left our own to follow you."

³³ But he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."

⁴⁷ When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.”

¹¹ I have been a fool! You forced me to it, for I ought to have been commended by you. For I was not in the least inferior to these super-apostles, even though I am nothing.

⁷ "I will establish my covenant as a long lasting covenant between us. It will be for your descendants after you, for the generations to come. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

² He who walks blamelessly and does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart;

¹ Davidic. Vindicate me, LORD, because I have walked in integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.

¹¹ But I will walk in my truthfulness; redeem me and be merciful to me.

²⁶ He is always generous and lends freely. His descendants are a blessing.

² His seed will be mighty in the land, the generation of the upright will be blessed.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.

² He who walks in uprightness fears the LORD, Yet he who deviates in his ways despises Him."

¹ Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil.

³⁹ I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and the good of their children after them.

⁶ They were both upright in the sight of God, blamelessly observing all the Lord's commands and requirements.

³⁹ For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself."

¹² And this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in relation to you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God—not in worldly wisdom, but in the grace of God.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² It trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and Godly lives in this present age,

³ Because it gave me great joy when some brothers came and testified to the truth about you, how you are walking in Truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

³ David's men said to him, "Look, we're afraid here in Judah. How much then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine army?" ⁴ So David again inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand."

⁴ And as the light of morning he rises, A morning sun--no clouds! By the shining, by the rain, Tender grass of the earth!"

⁴ May he defend the afflicted of the people and deliver the children of the poor, but crush the oppressor.

⁹ For, lo, Your enemies, O LORD; for, lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the evildoers shall be scattered.

⁴ The King's strength also loves justice. You do establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ My eyes will be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. He who walks in a perfect way, he will minister to me. ⁷ He who practices deceit won't dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood won't be established before my eyes. ⁸ Every morning will I destroy all the wicked of the land: to cut off all workers of iniquity from the city of the LORD.

¹² Kings detest wrong-doing, for through righteousness the throne is established.

⁵ remove the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

¹⁴ If a king judges the poor in truth, His throne shall be established for the future."

¹ Behold, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule in justice.

⁴⁶ "If they sin against you (for there is not a person who does not sin) and you are angry with them and you give them to an enemy and they take them captive to the land of the enemy far or near,

³⁶ When they sin against you—for there is no person who does not sin—and you become angry with them and place them before their enemy that they carry them away as captives to a land far or near,

⁴ "Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!

¹⁴ "What is man, that he could be pure? Or he who is born of woman, that he could be righteous?

⁴ "How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin my mother conceived me.

²⁰ Surely there is not a righteous man on earth, who does good and doesn't sin.

⁴ My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me.

² We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body.

⁸ If we say we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.

³⁵ Work no wickedness in judgment, in measurement, in weight, or in quantity.

²⁵ "Burn the carved images of their gods with fire. Do not covet the silver or the gold that is on them. Do not take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it. It is an abomination to the LORD your God. ²⁶ "Do not bring an abomination into your house. You must utterly detest it and you must utterly abhor it, for it is something banned."

¹³ "Don't have different weights in your bag one heavy and one light. ¹⁴ Don't have different measuring devices in your house one large and one small. ¹⁵ You must have honest weights and measuring devices, so you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is about to give you,

¹ A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.

¹¹ Honest balances and scales are the LORD's; all the weights in the bag are his work.

²³ The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.

⁴ Hear this, you who trample the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; ⁶ buying the poor for cash, and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling chaff mixed in with the wheat." ⁷ "The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: I will never forget anything they have done.

¹⁰ Am I to let the stores of the evil-doer go out of my memory, and the short measure, which is cursed? ¹¹ Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

³ The wicked go astray from the womb; they err as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

⁸ The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

¹⁵ Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

¹⁶ By their fruit you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

¹⁵ for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He shall never take wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb.

⁶⁶ and everyone who heard them kept them in mind, and said, "What is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.

⁴⁶ After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. ⁴⁷ All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

⁴³ No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. ⁴⁴ For each tree is recognized by its own fruit. For people do not harvest figs from thorn bushes, nor grapes from a brier bush.

¹¹ the LORD said to him: "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

⁹ He who implanted the ear, won't he hear? He who formed the eye, won't he see?

¹⁸ Open my eyes that I may observe wonderful things from your law.

¹³ This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ ¹⁴ In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. ¹⁵ For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.’ ¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear;

¹⁸ to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹⁷ and asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. ¹⁸ I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

⁹ How long will you lie down, lazy man? When will you get up from your sleep?

¹¹ He who works his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows worthless things lacks ⌊sense⌋.

³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding: ³¹ Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I myself set my heart on what I was perceiving; I took admonition from what I saw: ³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest: ³⁴ So loss will come on you like an outlaw, and your need like an armed man.

⁶ So the captain came to him, and said: "Why are you sleeping? Get up and call on your god. Perhaps your god will be concerned about us so that we will not perish."

¹¹ Never be lacking in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

¹¹ And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

³⁴ Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.

¹⁴ for the light is making everything visible. That is why it says, "Wake up, O sleeper! Arise from the dead, and the Messiah will shine on you.''

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If anyone will not work, he shall not eat."

¹⁰ Is there anything of which one may say:See this, it is new? It has already occurred In eons that were before us?

⁷ A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud. ⁸ Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won't find in me any iniquity that is sin."

⁶ that no one trespass and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such behavior, as, indeed, we have already told you and warned you.

¹² "Where can wisdom be found? Where is understanding's home? ¹³ Man does not know the price of it; nor is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The deep says, It is not in me; and the sea says, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ "It cannot be bought with the gold from Ophir or with precious onyx or sapphire. ¹⁷ "Neither gold nor crystal can equal its value. Nor can it be exchanged for jewelry of fine gold. ¹⁸ Corals and pearl are not remembered, The acquisition of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Cush cannot be compared with it; it cannot be bought for pure gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her.

¹¹ because wisdom is better than precious gems and nothing you desire can compare to it."

²⁰ The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

⁷ The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.

²³ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and how good is a word in its season!

¹⁶ How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding instead of silver!

²¹ The wise-hearted person is said to be discerning, and pleasant speech promotes instruction.

²⁴ Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹² As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise provider to a listening ear.

⁹ And besides that Koheleth was wise, he also taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The Teacher searched to find appropriate expressions, and what is written here is right and truthful. ¹¹ The words of the wise are like goads; yes, their collected words are like nails driven home; they are given from one Shepherd.

¹⁴ How then can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? ¹⁵ And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

²⁹ Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.

²⁶ If you take your neighbor's coat as collateral, you shall return it to him by sunset, ²⁷ because it is his only garment; it is his cloak for his skin. In what will he sleep? And when he cries out to me, I will hear, because I am gracious.

¹⁶ delivering you from the adulteress, from the immoral woman with her seductive words,

³ For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil.

⁵ That they may keep you from the adulteress, from the stranger with seductive words.

¹⁰ Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute, and with crafty intent.

¹⁵ He who is surety for a stranger shall be ruined; and he who hates suretyship is safe.

²⁶ Be not of them who strike hands, of them who are sureties for debts: ²⁷ If you don't have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

²⁷ For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

¹³ Take the coat of anyone who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he cosigns for an immoral woman.

⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ⁷ Then the eyes of both of them were opened. They realized they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

¹² "Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, ¹³ though he cannot bear to let it go and keeps it in his mouth, ¹⁴ yet his food will turn sour in his stomach; it will become the venom of serpents within him. ¹⁵ "He will spit out the riches he swallowed. God will make his stomach vomit them up. ¹⁶ "He will suck the poison of serpents. The fangs of an adder (cobra) will kill him. ¹⁷ "He will not look upon the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream. ¹⁸ "What he toiled for he must give back uneaten. He will not enjoy the profit from his trading. ¹⁹ "For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor and left them destitute. He has violently seized houses he did not build. ²⁰ »He will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.

¹⁷ They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷ "Stolen waters are sweet, and food eaten in secret is delicious." ¹⁸ But he doesn't know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

⁹ Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹⁵ VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel; he has pressed me down in the dust.

²⁵ He chose to share the bad treatment with the people of God, rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

¹ After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked the LORD (YHWH), saying: "Who will go first to fight against the Canaanites for us?" ² And the LORD said, `Judah does go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand..

²⁹ If only this people were under my hand! Then I would remove Abimelech. He said to Abimelech, Increase your army and come out!

⁷ So look, all you sons of Israel! Speak up and give us your advice!"

¹⁸ The Israelites went up to Bethel and asked counsel of God. They said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? the LORD said, Judah first.

²³ They went up and wept before the LORD until evening, and they asked the LORD, Shall we go up to fight again against the Benjamites, our brothers? the LORD said, Go up against them.

²⁶ Then the Israelites, all the people, went up to Bethel and wept and sat there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening. They offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD. ²⁷ And the Israelites inquired of the LORD (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there, ²⁸ and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron ministered before it), Shall we yet again go out to fight against Benjamin our brother, or not? the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

²⁶ Then Abner called out to Joab, "Must the battle sword keep on devouring forever? Don't you realize that the end result is bitterness? How long will it take for you to order your army to stop pursuing their own relatives?" ²⁷ Joab said: "As God lives; if you had not spoken the men would have continued following their brothers."

¹⁷ Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us face off against each other. ¹⁸ King Jehoash of Israel sent this message to King Amaziah of Judah: "A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon. It said: 'Let your daughter marry my son, but a wild animal from Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle. ¹⁹ You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?'" ²⁰ But Amaziah did not listen, for it was from God that he might give them into the hand of enemies, because they sought the gods of Edom. ²¹ And so Joash, king of Israel, went up; and he and Amaziah, king of Judah, came face to face at Beth-shemesh in Judah. ²² Judah was defeated by Israel; so every man fled to his tent. ²³ Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.

¹⁴ Without guidance the people fall, but safety is in a great counselor.

²² Plans go wrong when there is no counsel, but with many advisors it will succeed.

⁶ for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

⁸ Do not run quickly to court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame.

³¹ Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider whether he can engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

¹⁶ You shall not go about with slander among your people; you shall not endanger your neighbor's life; I am the LORD.

¹³ Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

²⁹ A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good.

⁸ The words of a gossip are like tasty morsels: they go down into a person's innermost parts.

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:

²⁰ For lack of wood a fire goes out; without gossip, a quarrel dies down. ²¹ As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife. ²² The words of a gossip are as tasty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.

¹⁸ For such as these are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

¹⁷ "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.

⁹ For he who curses his father or his mother will surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother; his blood will be upon him.

¹⁶ Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen!

⁵ "The lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. The flame of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ "The light in his tent becomes dark. The lamp beside him will be put out.

¹⁸ "He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

⁹ The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

²⁰ for there will be no reward to the evil man. The lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

¹¹ There is a generation that curse their father, and do not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks his father, and rejects obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.

⁴ For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’

¹³ Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot and throw him outside into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

⁸ The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your Father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ ¹¹ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), ¹² then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."

¹³ They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

¹⁶ "Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay, ¹⁷ what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.

⁴ Do not weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.

⁸ He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

²⁰ A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.

²² A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.

⁶ "Will not all of these ridicule him with mocking scorn? They will say, 'Woe to the one who hordes for himself what isn't his. How long will you enrich yourself by extortion?'

⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

² If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give glory to my name," says the LORD of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because you are not taking it to heart.

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

³⁵ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, at the time when their foot slides; for the day of their calamity is near, and the things to come hasten upon them."

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

¹⁴ Wait for the LORD; be strong and let thy heart take courage: yea, wait for the LORD.

³⁴ Wait for the LORD, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

¹³ If anyone gives back evil for good, evil will never go away from his house.

²⁹ Don't say, "I'll do to him like he did to me, I'll be sure to pay him back for what he did."

³¹ "Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary! They will walk and not be faint."

²⁵ the LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. ²⁶ Teth It is good to wait quietly in the salvation of the LORD.

³⁹ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. But if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody. ¹⁸ If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everybody. ¹⁹ Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

¹⁵ Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else.

²³ When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.

⁹ Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

¹⁹ So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

¹⁰ Differing weights and differing measures, both of them are an abomination to the LORD.

¹⁰ Have true scales and a true ephah and a true bath.

⁷ A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.

⁵ saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

⁴ Show me your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.

¹² Who is the man that fears the Lord? He shall instruct him in the way which he has chosen.

²³ The LORD ordereth a good man's going, and hath pleasure in his way.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

⁹ A man's heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

⁶ "I send him against a godless nation. I commission him against the people of my fury to capture booty and to seize plunder, and to trample them down like mud (clay) in the streets. ⁷ But this is not what is in his mind, and this is not his design; but his purpose is destruction, and the cutting off of more and more nations.

²³ I know, O Lord, that man's way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.

²³ You've exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You've had the vessels from his temple brought into your presence. And you, your officials, and your wives and mistresses drank wine from them. You praised gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which can't see, hear, or demonstrate knowledge. But you didn't honor God, who holds in his power your very life and all your ways.

²⁸ ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’

¹⁵ "When a person displays infidelity and he sins in an unintentional wrong in any of the LORD's holy things, then he shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD: a ram without defect from the flock as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels according to the sanctuary shekel.

¹⁰ "'There shall no stranger eat of the hallowed things, neither a guest of the priests, or a hired servant. ¹¹ But if a priest buy any one for money, he may eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they may eat of his food. ¹² »‘A priest's daughter who marries someone who is not a priest may not eat any of the sacred offerings. ¹³ But if a priest's daughter is a widow, or divorced, and has no child, and has returned to her father's house, as in her youth, she may eat of her father's bread: but no stranger shall eat any of it. ¹⁴ And, when, any man, eateth what is hallowed, by mistake, then shall he add the fifth part of it thereunto, and give unto the priest the hallowed thing: ¹⁵ "'The priests must not profane the sacred offerings

⁹ "'If it is an animal, of which men offer an offering to the LORD, all that any man gives of such to the LORD becomes holy. ¹⁰ »‘Do not exchange or substitute animals, a good one for a bad one or a bad one for a good one. If you do exchange one animal for another, then both animals will be holy.

³⁰ And all the tenth of the land from the seed of the land, from the fruit of the tree, is to the LORD: it is holy to the LORD. ³¹ If a man redeems anything of his tithe, he shall add a fifth part to it.

² When a man vows a vow to the LORD, or has sworn an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do all that has gone out of his mouth. ³ And in case a woman vows a vow to the LORD and binds herself by a bond in the house of her father in her youth, ⁴ but if her father hears her vow or her pledge that she bound on herself and says nothing to her, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge that she binds on her life will stand. ⁵ But if her father forbids her in the day that he hears, none of her vows or of her pledges with which she has bound her soul, shall stand. the LORD will forgive her, because her father has forbidden her. ⁶ "If she has a husband while bound by her vows or a rash promise of her lips, ⁷ and her husband hears of it and is silent on the day he hears it, her vows will stand, and her pledge that she bound upon herself will stand. ⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and the LORD will forgive her. ⁹ The vow of a widow or one driven out, all which she binds on her soul shall be confirmed on her. ¹⁰ "If she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband heard it but was silent to her, and he did not forbid her, all her vows will stand and every pledge that she bound on herself will stand. ¹² But if her husband nullified them on the day he hears them, all her vows going out of her lips concerning her vows or the pledge on herself will not stand; her husband has nullified them, and the LORD will forgive her. ¹³ Every vow and every bonded oath to humble the soul, her man raises or her man breaks. ¹⁴ But if her husband is completely silent from day to day, then he confirms all her vows or all her pledges that are on her; he confirms them because he was silent to her on the day he heard them. ¹⁵ But if he indeed nullifies them after he hears them, then he will bear her guilt." ¹⁶ These are the laws which the Lord gave Moses in relation to a man and his wife, or a father and a young daughter who is under his authority.

⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better not to vow, than to vow and not perform. ⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings. ⁹ You are cursed under the curse the entire nation because you are robbing me!" ¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says the LORD of Armies, “if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be room enough for.

³³ Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’

⁹ And David answered Rechab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life out of all distress, ¹⁰ when the man who told me 'Look! Saul is dead!' thought he was bringing me good news, I arrested him and had him killed at Ziklag as the reward I gave him for his news. ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, should I not now require his blood from your hand, and rid the earth of you?” ¹² David commanded his young men, and they killed them, cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in Abner's grave in Hebron.

³¹ He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, and iron picks, and iron axes, and to labor at the brick kiln. And he did the same to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

⁵ Whoso slandereth his neighbour in secret, him will I destroy; whoso is haughty of eye and proud of heart, him will I not suffer.

⁸ When a king sits on the throne of judgment he scatters away evil with his eyes.

²⁷ For black cummin is not threshed with the sledge; nor is a cartwheel turned on cummin. But black cummin is beaten out with the staff, and cummin with the rod. ²⁸ Bread flour must be ground; so he will not always be threshing it. Although he drives the wheel of his threshing cart over it, his horses do not grind it.

⁷ the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. The man became a living being.

⁸ But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty, that giveth them understanding.

³⁰ Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.

¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing them

² But we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. ⁴ The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹² For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

¹⁹ —yes, by this we know that we are of the Truth and may put our hearts at ease in His presence, ²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

⁷ For the king trusts in the LORD, and in the mercy of the Most High; he will not be shaken.

⁷ May he live forever in the presence of God. Appoint loyal love and faithfulness to preserve him.

¹ A Psalm by David. I will sing of grace and justice. To You, the LORD, I will sing praises.

⁶ Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

⁵ A throne will be established in loving kindness. One will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging, seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.

³² You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.

³¹ Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is attained by a life of righteousness.

²³ [J] Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom: nor the mighty man boast of his strength; neither let the rich man boast of his riches: ²⁴ but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.

¹⁴ I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

²⁵ Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

⁹ By this Jacob's guilt will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruitage of the removal of his sin. When he makes all the altar stones to be like chalk stones crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.

⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.

¹⁰ Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness.
