¹ "Gather together! Yes, indeed, gather together, You shameless nation! ² before the appointed time when the day passes as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD comes on you, before the day of the LORD's anger comes on you. ³ seek the LORD, all you humble people of the land, who do what he commands. Seek righteousness! Seek humility! Maybe you will be protected in the day of the LORD's anger." ⁴ "For Gaza will be forsaken, and Ashkelon deserted {— } Ashdod will be emptied at high noon; even Ekron will be uprooted. ⁵ "Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines. I will destroy you and you will not be inhabited. ⁶ The Philistine coast will become meadows for shepherds and sheep pens. ⁷ The coast will be for the remnant of the house of Judah. They will find pasture there. They will lie down in the evening in the houses of Ashkelon, for the LORD their God will visit them, and restore them. ⁸ I have heard the reproaches of Moab and the scorning of the Ammonites, with which they have taunted my nation and made boasts against their territory. ⁹ "Therefore, as I live"—a declaration of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel— "Moab shall be as Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a place of weeds and salt pits and a desolation forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the remainder of my nation shall possess them." ¹⁰ This shall be for them in place of their pride because they mocked and boasted against the people of the LORD of hosts. ¹¹ The LORD shall be grim upon them, and destroy all the goods in the land. And all the Isles of the Heathen shall worship him, every man in his place. ¹² "You Ethiopians (Cushites) will be slain by my sword! ¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, dry like the desert. ¹⁴ Herds shall lie down in her midst, every wild animal of a nation; even the desert owl and the screech owl shall lodge on her capitals. A voice shall hoot in the window; rubble on the threshold; for the cedar is laid bare. ¹⁵ This is the city of rejoicing that lived securely; the one saying in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me." How she has become a desolation, a lair for wild animals! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

⁴ The people of Judah gathered to seek the LORD’s help. They came from every city in Judah.

¹ And all the people gathered as one man into the plaza before the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

¹ On the twenty-fourth day of this same month, the Israelites gathered together while fasting, wearing sackcloth, and covering themselves with dust.

¹⁶ “Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that deal corruptly; they have forsaken the LORD, they have contemned the Holy One of Israel, they are turned away backward. ⁵ Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it: wounds, welts, and open sores. They haven't been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, ¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

⁸ Yes, the LORD, walking in the way of your Laws, we wait for you. Your name and your fame are the desire of our hearts. ⁹ I yearn for you in the night. In the morning I long for you with all my being. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

³ Therefore rain showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come. Yet you have the forehead of a woman prostitute, you refuse to be ashamed.

¹⁵ Were they ashamed when they made an abomination? They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know to blush. So they shall fall among those who fall. At the time I visit them, they shall be cast down, says the LORD.

⁷ I'll forsake my house, I'll abandon my inheritance. I'll give the beloved of my heart into the hand of her enemies. ⁸ My inheritance has become like a lion in the forest to me. She roars at me; therefore, I hate her. ⁹ Is my inheritance like a speckled bird of prey to me? Are the other birds of prey all around her coming against her? Go, gather all the wild animals and bring them to devour it.

¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD.

¹² "And even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, and weeping, and wailing." ¹³ Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity. ¹⁴ Who knoweth, he may turn and grieve,—and leave behind him, a blessing, a meal-offering and a drink-offering, to the LORD your God? ¹⁵ Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: ¹⁶ Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the elders. Gather the children, and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his room, and the bride out of her chamber. ¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, "Spare your people, LORD, and do not give your heritage to mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'" ¹⁸ Then the LORD will be jealous for His land and have pity on His people.

⁸ In a single month I got rid of three shepherds because I grew tired of them, and they despised me.

²⁰ For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”

¹⁶ 'This is what the LORD says: "I am going to bring disaster on this place and on the people living here. This is according to everything written in the book that the king of Judah has read. ¹⁷ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place and it will not be quenched.

²⁶ Even so, the LORD did not turn away from his fierce and great anger that burned against Judah because of everything with which Manasseh had provoked him. ²⁷ So the Lord said, I will remove Juda also from my presence as 1 have removed Israel; and I will cast off this city of Jerusalem which I chose, and this house of which I said, My name shall be there.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. ¹⁷ And he brought up [against] them the king of the Chaldees, and slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and spared not young man nor maiden, old man nor him of hoary head: he gave [them] all into his hand.

¹⁸ "How often are they like straw before the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?

⁴ This is not so for the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed (happy) are all who take refuge (put trust) in him.

²² "Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be none to deliver.

⁷ for he is our Elohim and we are the people of his pasture - the flock of his hand. Today if you hear his voice, ⁸ Do not harden your heart as at Meribah, As on the day of Massah, in the desert;

¹³ The nations roar like the roar of many waters, but he will rebuke him, and he will flee far away. And they are chased like chaff of the mountains before the wind and like tumbleweed before the storm.

¹⁵ "See I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them. You will reduce the hills to chaff. ¹⁶ "You will winnow them. The wind will pick them up and a gale will blow them away. But you will rejoice in the LORD and glory in the Holy One of Israel.

²⁰ The anger of the LORD shall not turn back until He has executed, and until He has set up the purposes of His heart. In latter days you shall understand it perfectly.

¹¹ the LORD has completed his anger, he has poured out his fierce anger; he has kindled a fire in Zion, it consumed her foundations.

²⁵ For I, the LORD, will speak, and the Word that I shall speak shall be done. It shall no more be delayed; for in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the Word and will do it, says the Sovereign LORD.

³ Therefore, they will be like the morning cloud, and like the dew of early morning going away, like chaff swirling from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a window.

⁶ His indignation—who can stand before it? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; rocks are shattered before him.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

⁸ Therefore, wait for Me, declares the LORD, for the day I rise up to the prey. For My judgment is to gather the nations, for Me to gather the kingdoms, to pour My fury out on them, all My hot anger. For all the earth shall be burned up with the fire of My jealousy.

¹ "For look! The day is about to come, burning like an oven, and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble. The coming day will consume them," says the LORD of hosts. "It will not leave behind for them root or branch. ² But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like fattened calves.

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

²⁴ "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able to, ²⁵ After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ ²⁶ Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But he will tell you, 'I don't know where you come from. Get away from me, all you evildoers!' ²⁸ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown out.

⁴ “Where is the promise of His coming?” they will ask. “Ever since our fathers fell asleep, everything continues as it has from the beginning of creation.” ⁵ But they deliberately overlook the fact that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water, ⁶ By water the then-existing world was deluged and destroyed, ⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. ⁸ But do not overlook this one fact, dear friends, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like one day. ⁹ The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be dissolved in the fire, and the earth and its works will not be found.

¹⁵ Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. ¹⁶ The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.

²⁷ you shall say, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when he struck down the Egyptians but spared our houses.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.

²² And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I thought, Who knows? [perhaps] the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live.

²⁷ "Because your heart was sensitive, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he had to say about this place and its inhabitants indeed, because you humbled yourself before me, tore your clothes, and cried out to me, I have heard you," declares the LORD. ²⁸ “Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes won’t see all the evil that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back word to the king.

²⁶ The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever.

⁸ Good and right is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. ⁹ He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way.

²⁰ In the shelter of your presence you will hide them from the plotting of man. You will keep them secretly in a dwelling away from the strife of tongues.

⁶ For this, let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him. ⁷ You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

¹ Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed.

⁹ when God rose for justice, to save all the afflicted of the land. Selah

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

⁴ Seek ye the LORD and his strength: seek his face always.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

¹⁰ The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

²⁰ Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until his rage has passed by. ²¹ Behold! the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose (reveal) the bloodshed upon her. She will conceal her slain no longer.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;

¹³ 'Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have rebelled against the LORD your God, and have scattered your favors to strangers under every green tree. But you haven't obeyed me,' declares the LORD. ¹⁴ "Return, unfaithful people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I'll take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I'll bring you to Zion.

¹ If you will return, O Israel, says the LORD, return to Me. And if you will put away your hateful idols out of My face and will not waver, ² -- and thou shalt in truth, in justice, and in righteousness swear, [As] the LORD liveth! and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

¹⁵ Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. ¹⁶ He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy. Then it was well. "Is that not what it means to know me?" Says the LORD.

¹² And you will call upon me and you will go and pray to me and I will listen to you. ¹³ You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

¹⁸ For I will surely save you, and you won't fall by the sword, but you will escape with your life; because you have put your trust in me,” says the LORD.'”

⁵ "Are you looking for great things for yourself? Do not look for them." "I am going to bring disaster on all people!" Declares the LORD, "But wherever you go I will let you escape with your life."

¹⁰ Israel's arrogance testifies against him; but they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him in all of this.

¹² Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.

¹³ Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity. ¹⁴ Who knoweth, he may turn and grieve,—and leave behind him, a blessing, a meal-offering and a drink-offering, to the LORD your God?

⁴ "For this is what the LORD says to the house of Israel: 'Seek me and live, ⁵ "Do not seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal. Do not pass to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into captivity (exile), and Bethel will come to nothing. ⁶ Seek ye the LORD and live, lest he shall break through the house of Joseph as fire, and devour, and none quenching to the house of God.

¹⁴ Seek good and not evil that you may live, and so the Lord God Almighty will be with you. As you have said, ¹⁵ Hate evil and love good and establish justice in the gate; perhaps the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

⁹ Who knows? God may relent and change his mind and turn from his blazing anger so that we will not perish."

¹⁹ Thus says the LORD of hosts: "The fasts of the fourth fifth, seventh, and tenth months shall be for the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace."

⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

¹³ Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize, to which God has called me upward in Christ Jesus.

² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

¹ Now then, brothers, you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, as in fact you are doing. We ask and encourage you in the Lord to do so even more.

¹⁰ and indeed you do love all the brethren throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to do so more and more.

²¹ Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls. ²² Obey the message; do not merely listen to it, and deceive yourselves.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth, so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.

⁴ but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

⁶ for the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.

⁴ Prepare for war against her. "Arise, and let us attack at noon." "Woe to us, for the day declines (is nearly over), for the shadows of the evening lengthen!"

⁸ I'll make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At noontime I'll send a destroyer against the mother of a young man. I'll cause terror and anguish to come to her unexpectedly.

²⁰ and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;

¹ This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh conquered Gaza. ² This is what the LORD says: "Look, waters are rising from the north, and they'll become an overflowing river. They'll overflow the land and all that fills it the city and those that live in it. People will cry out, and all those living in the land will wail. ³ »They will hear the sound of galloping warhorses, the rattling of enemy chariots, and the rumbling of their wheels. Fathers who lack courage abandon their children. ⁴ for the day is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains. For the LORD is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastlands of Caphtor. ⁵ Baldness is coming to Gaza. Ashkelon is silenced. remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourself? ⁶ O you sword of the LORD, how long will you be quiet? Put up yourself into your scabbard. Rest and be still. ⁷ How can it be quiet, since the LORD has given it a command? He has set it there against Ashkelon, and against the seashore.

¹⁵ So says the Sovereign LORD: Because the Philistines have acted in vengeance and have taken vengeance with spite in their soul, to destroy with perpetual enmity. ¹⁶ therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: 'Look! I am stretching out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Kerethites, and I will destroy the remainder of the seacoast. ¹⁷ I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I lay my vengeance on them.”'”

⁶ This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of Gaza and now for a fourth I will not turn away; because they exiled the entire population, delivering them to Edom. ⁷ "I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza. It will devour the palaces there. ⁸ And I will cut off the people from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn My hand against Ekron. And the rest of the Philistines shall perish, says the Sovereign LORD.

⁵ "Ashkelon will see it and fear! Gaza will be pained and Ekron will be put to shame. The king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will not be inhabited. ⁶ Foreigners will dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. ⁷ I will remove its blood from its mouth, and its abominations from between its teeth. And it too will be a remnant for our God; and it will be like a tribal chief in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusite.

³ from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, up to the border of Ekron to the north, which is reckoned as Canaanite; there are five Philistine rulers: the Gazites, Ashdodites, Ashkelonites, Gittites, Ekronites, and the Avvim.

³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath.

³⁰ The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed.

⁷ How can it be quiet, since the LORD has given it a command? He has set it there against Ashkelon, and against the seashore.

¹⁶ therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: 'Look! I am stretching out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Kerethites, and I will destroy the remainder of the seacoast.

¹ Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole clan that I brought up from the land of Egypt:

¹ Hear this word, O ye house of Israel. And why? I must make this moan for you:

⁶ "I have cut off nations; their strongholds are deserted. I have laid waste their streets, so that none pass through. Their cities have been destroyed and are without a man, without an inhabitant.

⁶ However, did not my words and my regulations which I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors? And they repented and said, 'the LORD of hosts planned to do with us according to our ways, and according to our deeds so he has dealt with us.'" '"

¹² So they started looking for a way to arrest Him, because they knew He had spoken the parable against them, but they were in fear of the crowd. Then they left Him and went away.

¹⁷ Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture, and kids will eat the ruins of the rich.

² The cities of Aroer are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which will lie down and none will make them afraid.

⁵ "'"I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and the Ammonites a resting place for flocks. So you will know that I am the LORD."'"

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

³¹ The people believed them. When they heard that the LORD was concerned about the people of Israel and that he had seen their misery, they knelt, bowed low and worshiped.

¹ For the music director. Of the sons of Korah. A psalm. O Yahweh, you favored your land. You restored the fortunes of Jacob.

¹ When the LORD brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues formed joyful shouts. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." ³ The LORD has done great things for us, and we are glad. ⁴ Restore our fortunes again, LORD, like the streams in the Negev.

¹¹ It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

¹ the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

²⁹ You must not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken, for a viper will come forth from the root of the snake, and its fruit will be a flying serpent. ³⁰ The firstborn of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in safety; and I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant will be killed. ³¹ Wail, gate! Cry, city! Melt, Philistia, all of you! For smoke is coming from the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks. ³² What will they say to the kings of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.

¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and together they'll come to the land that I gave your ancestors as an inheritance."

³ "I'll gather the remnant of my flock from all the countries where I've driven them, and bring them back to their pasture where they'll be fruitful and increase in numbers.

¹⁴ 'I will let you find me, declares the LORD. I will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have scattered you,' declares the LORD. 'I will bring you back from the place where you are being held captive.'

³ "The days are coming," says the LORD, "when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity. I will bring them back to the land that I gave their ancestors, and they will take possession of it."’

¹⁸ "This is what the LORD says: 'I'm going to restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. A city will be rebuilt on its ruins and a palace will sit on its rightful place. ¹⁹ And from them will go out praise and the sound of laughing: and I will make them great in number, and they will not become less; and I will give them glory, and they will not be small.

⁷ For this is what the LORD says: "Cry out with joy for Jacob and shout for the chief among the nations. Announce, give praise, and say, 'Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel.'

⁴⁴ People will buy fields for money, sign deeds, seal them, and call witnesses in the land of Benjamin, in the areas around Jerusalem, in the towns of Judah, the towns of the hill country, the towns of the Shephelah, and the towns of the Negev, for I'll restore their fortunes,' declares the LORD."

⁷ "I will restore Judah and Israel and rebuild them as they were before.

²⁵ Therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: "Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob, and I will have compassion on all of the house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name.

¹⁴ I will surely restore my people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them. They will plant vineyards and drink the wine from them. They will plant gardens and eat the fruit from them. ¹⁵ I will plant the people of Israel in their own land, never again to be torn out of their land that I gave them," says the LORD your God.

¹⁹ Those of the Negev will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead.

¹² I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will surely gather together the remainder of Israel. I will set them like sheep of Bozrah. Like a herd in the midst of their pasture they will be in tumult from people.

⁷ "I will make the lame a remnant and the outcast far off a strong nation. the LORD will reign over them in mount Zion from now on and forever.

¹⁰ Writhe and groan, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will go forth from the city, and you will camp in the field; you will go to Babylon. There you will be rescued; there the LORD will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

³ Therefore he will abandon them until the time that she who is in labor gives birth. Then the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel. ⁴ And he will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live, for now he will be great unto the ends of the earth. ⁵ He will be our peace when Assyria invades our land, and when he marches through our fortresses, then we will raise against him seven shepherds, and eight leaders of men. ⁶ They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrian, when he invades our land, and when he marches within our border. ⁷ The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples, like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, that do not wait for man, nor wait for the sons of men. ⁸ The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.

⁹ "Therefore, as I live"—a declaration of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel— "Moab shall be as Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a place of weeds and salt pits and a desolation forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the remainder of my nation shall possess them."

²⁰ At that time I will bring you in, and at that time I will gather you; for I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes, says the LORD.

¹² Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD, their God, and the words of Haggai, the prophet, as the LORD, their God, had sent him; and the people feared the LORD.

² "Speak now to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people;

¹⁶ All were seized with awe and glorified God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said, "God has visited his people."

²⁶ Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up and go south to the desert road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”

⁴⁰ But Philip appeared at Azotus and traveled through that region, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he came to Caesarea.

⁵ So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.

⁴ “Come,” they say, “let’s destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” ⁵ Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you ⁶ the tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarites; ⁷ Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the dwellers of Tyre;"

²⁷ For was not Israel a mockery to you? Was he found among thieves? For ever since you spoke of him, you skipped for joy. ²⁸ Abandon the cities, and live on the cliffs, you inhabitants of Moab. Be like a dove that builds a nest by the mouth of a cave. ²⁹ We have heard of the pride of Moab —he is very proud— his height, and his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.

¹ To the people of Ammon: This is what the LORD says: "Does Israel have no sons? Does he have no heir? Why then has Milcom taken possession of Gad, and his people settled in its towns?

³ "Tell the Ammonites: 'Hear the word of the Sovereign LORD! The Sovereign LORD says: "Because you said, Aha! Against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into exile, ⁴ »‘»I am going to give you to the sons of the east for a possession. They will set their encampments among you and make their dwellings among you. They will eat your fruit and drink your milk. ⁵ "'"I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and the Ammonites a resting place for flocks. So you will know that I am the LORD."'" ⁶ For thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because you have clapped your hands and stamped with the feet and rejoiced with all the spite of your soul against the land of Israel, ⁷ therefore look! I stretched out my hand against you, and I will give you as plunder to the nations, and I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will destroy you from the countries, and I will wipe you out, and you will know that I am the LORD." ⁸ Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because Moab and Seir say, Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations; ⁹ therefore, look! I am opening the side of Moab from the cities on its frontier, the glory of the land: Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim. ¹⁰ and I will give it for a possession along with the Ammonites to the sons of the east, so that the Ammonites will not be remembered among the nations. ¹¹ I will execute judgments on Moab. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

² Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because the enemy has said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession;

¹³ This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of the Ammonites and now for a fourth I will not turn away; because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their national borders.

²⁴ And the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens. ²⁵ And He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all those living in the cities, and the produce of the ground.

²¹ But as I live, and my name liveth, and the glory of the Lord shall fill the whole earth;

²³ [that] the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which LORD overthrew in his anger, and i

¹⁴ They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west. Together they will plunder the sons of the east. They will possess Edom and Moab, and the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

¹⁹ Babylon, the beauty (honor) (glory) of kingdoms, the majesty of Chaldean pride, will be overthrew by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. ²⁰ »It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation! Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there. Nor will shepherds take their flocks there.

¹ Surely in a night Ar of Moab is devastated and ruined. Certainly in a night Kir of Moab is devastated and ruined. ² They have gone up to the temple and to Dibon, to the high places to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba. Everyone's head is bald and every beard is cut off. ³ In its streets they are girded with sack-cloth, on its roofs, and in its public places every one shall wail, groan with weeping. ⁴ Heshbon and Elealeh cry out. Their voice is heard all the way to Jahaz. Therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud and tremble with fear. ⁵ My heart cries out for Moab! Her nobles flee to Zoar, to Eglath Shelishiyah; for they go up by the ascent of Luhith with weeping; for on the way to Horonaim, they raise up a cry of destruction. ⁶ The waters of Nimrim were dried up, the grass was withered, and the herbs destroyed, and the green things gone. ⁷ So the abundance they worked and what they mustered they bear away to the wadi of the willows. ⁸ For the cry has gone around the borders of Moab; its wailing as far as Eglaim, and its wailing as far as Beer Elim. ⁹ Dimon's waters are full of blood. I will bring still more upon Dimon, a lion upon the fugitives of Moab and upon those who remain in the land.

¹⁰ For the hand of the LORD shall rest in this mountain; and Moab shall be trampled under Him, even as straw is trampled in the water of a dung pit.

⁹ Her streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into sulphur, and her land will become burning pitch; ¹⁰ It won’t be quenched night or day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever. ¹¹ but the pelican and the porcupine will possess it, the owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. ¹² As for her nobles, none shall be there to be called to the kingdom; and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ Thorns will come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in its fortresses; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches.

¹⁸ Lift up your eyes all around and see; they all gather and come to you. As I live, says the LORD, you shall surely wear them as an ornament, and bind them on as a bride.

¹⁸ As surely as I live," declares the king, whose name is the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. Indeed, one will come like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea.

¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is plundered: Kiriathaim is put to shame and taken: the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed. ² The pride of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they plotted evil against her: 'Come and let's eliminate her as a nation.' Madmen will also be silenced, and the sword will pursue you. ³ A voice shall cry from Horonaim, 'With great wasting and destruction ⁴ Moab will be destroyed; her little ones will cry out. ⁵ Indeed, at the ascent of Luhith people will go up with bitter weeping. At the descent of Horonaim the anguished cries over the destruction will be heard. ⁶ Flee, save your lives, and be like the bush in the wilderness.

¹ To the people of Ammon: This is what the LORD says: "Does Israel have no sons? Does he have no heir? Why then has Milcom taken possession of Gad, and his people settled in its towns? ² "'That is why the days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah, where the people of Ammon live. It will become a pile of rubble. Its villages will be burned down.' "'Then Israel will take possession of its inheritance,' says the LORD. ³ "Wail, Heshbon, because Ai is destroyed. Cry out, daughters of Rabbah, put on sackcloth and lament. Run back and forth inside the walls, for Milcom is going into exile along with his priests and his princes. ⁴ Why do you boast in your valleys? Your valleys are ebbing. O unfaithful daughter, who trusted in her treasures, who said, 'Who will come against me?' ⁵ "I will bring terror on you from all around," proclaims the LORD Almighty. "Everyone will be scattered. No one will gather the refugees.'" ⁶ Yet afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites," declares the LORD.

¹⁸ Just like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors," says the LORD, "no one will live there. No human being will reside in it.

⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, states the LORD, so no man shall live there, nor shall a son of man stay in it.

¹ The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and prophesy against them. ³ "Tell the Ammonites: 'Hear the word of the Sovereign LORD! The Sovereign LORD says: "Because you said, Aha! Therefore, they will act in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath. They will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign LORD."'

¹⁹ Egypt will be desolate, and Edom will be a desert, because of violence against the people of Judah since they shed innocent blood in their land. ²⁰ But Judah will be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem for all generations.

¹³ This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of the Ammonites and now for a fourth I will not turn away; because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their national borders.

⁷ The coast will be for the remnant of the house of Judah. They will find pasture there. They will lie down in the evening in the houses of Ashkelon, for the LORD their God will visit them, and restore them.

¹⁴ Herds shall lie down in her midst, every wild animal of a nation; even the desert owl and the screech owl shall lodge on her capitals. A voice shall hoot in the window; rubble on the threshold; for the cedar is laid bare.

¹³ The remnant of Israel will not do iniquity, nor speak lies, neither will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they will feed and lie down, and no one will make them afraid."

¹¹ It is written: “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before Me; every tongue will confess to God.”

¹⁷ Do you still exalt yourself against My people, that you will not let them go?

³ Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, "This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

¹² And this shall happen: when the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, "I will punish the arrogance of the king of Assyria and his haughtiness." ¹³ For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers. ¹⁴ and my hand found, as a nest, the valuables of the people: and as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; and no one flapped the wing or gaped the mouth or chirped. ¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him who hews with it? Shall the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield those who lift it up, [or] as if a staff should lift up [him who is] not wood.

⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab—exceedingly proud— of his arrogance, pride, and insolence; ⌊his boasting is not true⌋.

²² this is the word the LORD spoke against him: "The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises and mocks you. The Daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee. ²³ "Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? It is against the Holy One of Israel! ²⁴ "By your messengers you have heaped insults on the LORD. You said: With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines. I reach its remotest heights, the finest of its forests. ²⁵ "I dug wells and drank the water there. With the bottom of my feet I dried up all the streams of Egypt. ²⁶ "Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it! And now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone. ²⁷ "Their people are drained of power. They are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, parched before it grows. ²⁸ »I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me. ²⁹ "For the reason that you rage against me and because your insolence (arrogance) has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the way you came."

²⁹ We have heard of the pride of Moab —he is very proud— his height, and his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.

¹⁴ “Therefore, son of man, prophesy, and tell Gog, 'The Sovereign LORD says: “In that day when my people Israel dwells securely, will you not know it? ¹⁵ "'You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army. ¹⁶ and you will advance against my people Israel like a cloud covering the land; it will be in the last days, and I will bring you against my land, so that the nations know me, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes, O Gog!" ' ¹⁷ “'The Sovereign LORD says: “Are you he of whom I spoke in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for years that I would bring you against them? ¹⁸ And it shall be on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel, says the Sovereign LORD, My fury shall come up in My face.

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and exalt and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth and His ways judgment. And those who walk in pride He is able to humble.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ He was driven away from human society and given the mind of an animal. He lived with wild donkeys, ate grass like cattle, and his body was soaked with dew from the sky until he realized that the Most High God is sovereign over human kingdoms and places over them whomever he desires. ²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this. ²³ You've exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You've had the vessels from his temple brought into your presence. And you, your officials, and your wives and mistresses drank wine from them. You praised gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which can't see, hear, or demonstrate knowledge. But you didn't honor God, who holds in his power your very life and all your ways.

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of a rock, the heights of its dwelling, you who say in your heart: 'Who can bring me down to the ground?'

⁸ I have heard the reproaches of Moab and the scorning of the Ammonites, with which they have taunted my nation and made boasts against their territory.

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁵ From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.

³⁸ which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you! Let them be your protection.

⁸ "Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. ⁹ "You will rule them with an iron scepter. You will dash them to pieces like pottery!" ¹⁰ So then, O kings, be wise. Be warned, O rulers of the earth. ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed (happy) are all who take refuge (put trust) in him.

²⁷ All the limits of the earth shall remember and return to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall bow down before Him." ²⁸ Because the kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. ²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth will eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust will bow before him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. ³⁰ Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord.

⁸ He shall also rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. ⁹ The dwellers in the desert shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust. ¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute (presents). The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts. ¹¹ Yes, all kings will bow down before him. All nations will serve him.

¹⁷ His name endures forever, his name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed in him, all nations will call him blessed.

⁹ All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord. They shall glorify your name.

⁶ The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. ⁷ Let all who serve an image be ashamed, those who boast about idols. Worship him, all you gods. ⁸ Zion heard, and rejoiced; and the daughters of Judah were glad, because of thy judgments, O LORD.

¹ Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. ² For his mercy is great toward us; and the truth of the LORD [endureth] for ever. Praise ye the LORD

⁴ All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth.

² In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the highest of the mountains and exalted above the hills. All the nations will stream to it. ³ Then many people will come and say: "Let us go to the mountain of the LORD, to the House of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways so that we may live by them." The law will go out from Zion. The word of the LORD will go out from Jerusalem. ⁴ He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

⁹ They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁰ In that day the root of Jesse, who standeth for an ensign of the people, him the Gentiles shall beseech, and his sepulchre shall be glorious.

¹⁴ They raise their voices and shout for joy. From the west they acclaim the LORD's majesty. ¹⁵ Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD. Exalt the name of the LORD the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea. ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: 'Glory to the righteous.' But I say: I waste away, I waste away, woe is me! The treacherous deal treacherously; yea, the treacherous deal very treacherously.

⁴ He will not fail nor be discouraged, until he has set justice in the earth, and the islands wait for his law.”

¹⁰ Sing to the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, the islands and their inhabitants.

¹ Hearken, ye Coastlands, unto me, And give ear ye peoples afar off,—the LORD, called me, from my birth, From my nativity, made he mention of my name;

¹⁷ I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they will no longer be mentioned by their name.

¹¹ The LORD thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of the LORD is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

¹ But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it. ² And many nations will come and say, "Come! Let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the temple of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, and that we may walk in his paths," for the law will go out from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. ³ And he will judge between many peoples and will decide concerning strong nations afar off. And they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning-hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, nor will they learn war any more.

⁴ And stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,

⁹ For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of the LORD, to serve him shoulder to shoulder.

¹¹ "Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in that day, and will be my people! I will dwell in the your midst, and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you."

²⁰ Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come;

²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'In those days ten men from all the nations of every language will take hold of the hem of a Judean man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

² And it shall be in that day, I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall be remembered no more, says the LORD of hosts. And I also will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

⁹ The LORD will be king over all the earth at that time. There will be one LORD, and his name the only one. ¹⁰ All the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem shall be turned as the Arabah; and [Jerusalem] shall be lifted up, and shall dwell in her own place, from Benjamin`s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner-gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king`s winepresses. ¹¹ Men will dwell in it, and there will be no more curse; but Jerusalem will dwell safely. ¹² And this will be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples that fight against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are standing on their feet; their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. ¹³ At that time they will be stricken with a terrible panic from the LORD. Everyone will attack each other. ¹⁴ Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered together: gold, and silver, and clothing, in great abundance. ¹⁵ "A similar plague will also strike horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all of the animals in those camps." ¹⁶ "Every one that is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. ¹⁷ And then whoever of the clans of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, the LORD of hosts, it will not rain on them. ¹⁸ And if the clan of Egypt will not go up and come in, on them will be that plague Yahweh inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. ¹⁹ This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that go not up to celebrate the feast of tabernacles. ²⁰ In that day there will be on the bells of the horses, HOLY TO the LORD; and the pots in the LORD's house will be like the bowls before the altar. ²¹ Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the LORD of hosts; and all those who sacrifice will come and take of them, and cook in them. In that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

¹¹ For from the east to the west, My name shall be great among the nations, and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name; and a pure food offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

²¹ Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ²² You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³ But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.

⁸ Therefore, I want men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

¹³ Arise, O LORD, confront him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, by your sword:

⁵ Wo to Assur the rod of mine anger, and that rod in their hand, my wrath.

⁵ They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of His wrath, to destroy all the land.

¹ Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Cush: ² It sends messengers by sea in boats made of reeds that skim over the surface of the water. "Go, swift messengers, to a tall and smooth-skinned people, a people who are feared far and near, a strong and aggressive nation, whose land is divided by rivers." ³ All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, when a banner is lifted up on the mountains, see ye, and when a trumpet is blown, hear ye! ⁴ For so the LORD said to me, I will take My rest, and I will look on in My dwelling place, like a clear heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. ⁵ For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and he will cut down and take away the spreading branches. ⁶ They will all be left for the birds of prey on the mountains and the wild animals. The birds of prey will feed on them in the summer. All the wild animals on earth will feed on them in the winter. ⁷ "At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD Almighty from a tall and smooth-skinned people, a people who are feared far and near. It will be a strong and aggressive nation, whose land is divided by rivers. They will be brought to Mount Zion, the place where the name of the LORD Almighty is."

⁴ so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared to Egypt's shame. ⁵ "Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be afraid and put to shame.

³ For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your stead.

⁹ Horses, get up! Chariots, drive furiously! Let the warriors go forward, Ethiopia and Put who carry shields, and the Lydians who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ That day belongs to the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. It is a day of vengeance to take vengeance on his foes. The sword will devour and be satisfied, and will drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord GOD of the Heavenly Armies will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north, by the Euphrates river.

²⁰ You are My war club and weapons of war, for with you I will shatter nations and with you I will destroy kingdoms. ²¹ and with you, I shatter the horse and his rider; and with you, I shatter the chariot and his rider; ²² and with you, I shatter man and woman; and with you, I shatter aged and lad; and with you, I shatter the youth and the virgin; ²³ I'll smash the shepherd and his flock with you. I'll smash the farmer and his team of oxen with you. I'll smash governors and officials with you.

⁴ A sword will come on Egypt, and anguish will be in Ethiopia, when the slain fall in Egypt. They take away her multitude, and her foundations are broken down. ⁵ Cush and Put and Lud and all of Arabia and Kub and the people of the land of the treaty with them—by the sword they will fall." ⁶ Thus says the LORD: "And the supporters of Egypt will fall, and the majesty of its strength will go down from Migdol to Syene; by the sword they will fall in it," declares the Sovereign LORD. ⁷ and they desolate midst the desolate lands; and her cities midst the cities are wasted. ⁸ And they shall know that I am the LORD when I set a fire in Egypt, and all her helpers shall be crushed. ⁹ In that day messengers shall go out from Me in ships to terrify the confident Ethiopians, and anguish shall be on them, as in the day of Egypt; for lo, it is coming.

⁸ Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. [Interlude] ⁹ Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon

¹² And this shall happen: when the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, "I will punish the arrogance of the king of Assyria and his haughtiness."

¹⁶ Therefore the Lord, the LORD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.

³ Behold, the Ashshuri, a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches with an overshadowing forest and high in height; with his foliage among the thick foliage: ⁴ The waters nourished it. The deep made it to grow. The rivers of it ran all around its plantation and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field. ⁵ In this way it became taller than all the trees of the field; and its branches were increased and its arms became long because of the great waters. ⁶ "'All the birds of the heavens nested in its boughs. Under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth and all great nations lived under its shade. ⁷ So it was beautiful, being so tall and its branches so long, for its root was by great waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir trees were not like its boughs, and the plane trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty. ⁹ I have made him beautiful by his many branches, so that all the trees of Eden in the garden of God envied him. ¹⁰ “Therefore thus said the Sovereign LORD: 'Because you are exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; ¹¹ then I gave it into the hand of the leader of nations; he dealt thoroughly with it according to its wickedness. On the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen and its boughs have been broken in all the ravines of the land. All the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shade and left it. ¹³ All the fowls of the air dwelt upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the field were among his branches. ¹⁴ so that all the trees by the waters may not be exalted in their stature, nor set their top among the clouds, nor their well-watered mighty ones stand erect in their height. For they have all been given over to death, to the earth beneath, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.' ¹⁵ "The Sovereign LORD says: 'On the day when it went down to the grave I caused cries of sorrow. I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers. Its many waters were stopped up, and I made Lebanon mourn for it. All the trees of the field wilted away on account of it. ¹⁶ I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether p ¹⁷ They also went down with him into Sheol, to the slain of the sword, even his arm, who dwelt in his shadow in the midst of the nations. ¹⁸ "'Which of the trees of Eden are you equal to in glory and greatness? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth beneath. You will lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who were slain by the sword. So is Pharaoh and all his hordes!' Declares the Sovereign LORD."'

⁶ They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrian, when he invades our land, and when he marches within our border.

¹⁰ She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale. ¹¹ Where is the lions' hole, the place where the young lions got their food, where the lion and the she-lion were walking with their young, without cause for fear?

⁷ And so be it, all who see you, flee from you; and say, Nineveh is ravaged: Who wags over her? Where seek I sighers for you?

¹⁵ There the fire will devour you. The sword will cut you off. It will devour you like the grasshopper. Multiply like grasshoppers. Multiply like the locust.

¹⁸ Hey king of Assyria! Your shepherds are asleep and your nobles are lying down! Your people lie scattered on the mountains, and there is no one to gather them together. ¹⁹ There is no healing your wound, for your injury is fatal. All who hear the report of you clap their hands over you; for who hasn’t felt your endless cruelty?

¹⁰ I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and there won’t be room enough for them. ¹¹ He will pass through the sea of affliction, and will strike the waves in the sea, and all the depths of the Nile will dry up; and the pride of Assyria will be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt will depart.

¹⁹ Babylon, the beauty (honor) (glory) of kingdoms, the majesty of Chaldean pride, will be overthrew by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. ²⁰ »It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation! Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there. Nor will shepherds take their flocks there. ²¹ But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there. ²² Wolves will cry in their castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.

²³ "And I will make her a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty.

¹¹ but the pelican and the porcupine will possess it, the owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. ¹² As for her nobles, none shall be there to be called to the kingdom; and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ Thorns will come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in its fortresses; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. ¹⁴ And the wildcats will meet with the hyenas, and the wild goat will cry to his fellow. There too, nocturnal animals shall settle, and shall find themselves a place of rest. ¹⁵ The snake shall nest there, and shall lay, and hatch, and shall gather in her shadow. Vultures shall also be gathered together, each with its mate. ¹⁶ Search in the scroll of the LORD, and read: not one of these will be missing. None will lack her mate. ¹ I saw the LORD standing beside the altar. He said: "Strike the capitals that the thresholds may shake! Break them in pieces on the head of all of them and I will slay the last of them with the sword. Not one of them will get away. Not one of them will escape!

⁶ The Philistine coast will become meadows for shepherds and sheep pens.

² And he called out with a mighty voice, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every unclean spirit, a haunt of every unclean and hateful bird.

⁷ then I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. ⁸ Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?'

²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

⁶ And the righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying, ⁷ Behold, the man who did not make God his strength; but he trusted in his many riches; he was strong in his destruction.

Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers. ¹⁴ and my hand found, as a nest, the valuables of the people: and as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; and no one flapped the wing or gaped the mouth or chirped.

⁴ that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased. How the attacker has ceased." ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,

² You are a town full of commotion, a city of tumult and revelry. The sword did not kill your slain, nor did they die in battle.

⁹ Ye careless women rise up, hear my voice; ye daughters that are secure, give ear unto my speech.

⁷ "'You said: 'I will be a queen for a very long time!' You did not consider these things or remember their outcome. ⁸ Now, therefore hear this, Thou Lady of pleasure Who dwelleth securely, Who saith in her heart,—I, [am], and there is no one besides, I shall not sit a widow, Nor know loss of children.

⁸ I'll make this city into a desolate place and an object of scorn. All who pass by it will be astonished and will scoff because of all its wounds.

¹ How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!

¹ How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to the earth and has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem: 'Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?'

³⁶ The merchants among the peoples hiss at you. You have become a terror, and you will be no more.”'”

² "Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'"In your arrogance you say, 'I am a god (strong deity). I sit on God's throne in the sea.' But you are only human and not a god, although you think you are a god. (2 Thes 2:4)

⁹ '"You will no longer say that you are a god when you face those who kill you. You will be a human, not a god, in the hands of those who kill you."'

³ Speak and say, Thus said the Sovereign LORD: Behold me against thee Pharaoh, king of Egypt, the great sea-monster lying in the midst of his rivers, who said, The, river is to me, and I made me.

³⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads

⁷ give her torment and pain in proportion to her pride and luxury; for she said in her heart, "I am enthron'd like a queen, I am no widow, and shall see no sorrow." ⁸ Therefore in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who judges her. ⁹ "The kings of the earth who have committed lewdness with her and have reveled luxuriously, when they see the smoke of her burning, will wail and beat their breasts. ¹⁰ for fear of her torture they will stand far off, crying, 'Woe and alas, thou great city! thou strong city of Babylon! In one brief hour thy doom has come.' ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more ¹² cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; ¹³ cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and chariots; and slaves and human souls. ¹⁴ The fruit you longed for has gone from you, and all your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered. ¹⁵ The merchants who sold these things and grew their wealth from her will stand at a distance, in fear of her torment. They will weep and mourn, ¹⁶ and say, 'Alas! Alas for the great city that was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and glittered with gold, precious stones, and pearls, ¹⁷ In one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!' And every shipmaster and all passengers and sailors, and all who make their living by the sea, stood far off, ¹⁸ and cried, when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying: What other is like this great city! ¹⁹ Then they will throw dust on their heads as they weep and mourn and cry out: “Woe, woe to the great city, where all who had ships on the sea were enriched by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been destroyed.”
