² the mighty man, the man of war, the judge, the prophet, the diviner, the elder,

¹⁴ He carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and the smiths. No one remained, except the poorest people of the land. ¹⁵ He carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the chief men of the land. He carried them into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. ¹⁶ All the men of might, even seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths one thousand, all of them strong and fit for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

⁹ We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.

¹³ for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, for all the oaks of Bashan, ¹⁴ for all the high mountains, for all the hills that are lifted up, ¹⁵ for every lofty tower, for every fortified wall,

¹⁴ Therefore Yahweh will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day. ¹⁵ The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail.

¹² Princes were hanged up by their hands. The faces of elders were not honored. ¹³ The young men carry millstones. The children stumbled under loads of wood. ¹⁴ The elders have ceased from the gate, and the young men from their music.

¹² Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his rooms of imagery? For they say, ‘Yahweh doesn’t see us. Yahweh has forsaken the land.’”

⁵ To the others he said in my hearing, “Go through the city after him, and strike. Don’t let your eye spare, neither have pity.

¹³ He took some of the royal offspring, and made a covenant with him. He also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land;

³ and I will cut off the judge from among them, and will kill all its princes with him,” says Yahweh.
