²² Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’

³⁶ Turn my heart toward your statutes, not toward selfish gain.

¹ When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you; ² put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. ³ Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.

⁶ Don’t eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don’t crave his delicacies: ⁷ for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. ⁸ The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words.

¹⁷ O Yahweh, why do you make us wander from your ways, and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants’ sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

⁵ The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s dainties, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at its end they should stand before the king. ⁶ Now among these were of the children of Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. ⁷ The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego. ⁸ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s dainties, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

¹³ Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”

³¹ Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

³³ Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”

¹⁷ Therefore “‘Come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you.

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

⁴ I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, that you have no participation in her sins, and that you don’t receive of her plagues,
