⁵² Then Jesus said to the chief priests, officers of the temple, and elders who had come against Him: “Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a bandit?

⁵⁵ At that time Jesus said to the crowd: “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a bandit, to arrest me? I used to sit daily with you in the temple, teaching, and you did not seize me.

⁴⁸ Then Jesus reacted by saying to them: “You have come out with swords and clubs to arrest me, as if I were a bandit. ⁴⁹ I was with you daily in the temple, teaching, and you did not seize me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”

⁴ So he went off and conferred with the chief priests and officers about how he might betray Him to them.

¹² While I was with them in the world I kept them in Your name. I protected those whom You gave me, and not one of them was lost except the son of perdition, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

²⁶ Then the captain went with the operatives and brought them without violence, because they were afraid that the people might stone them.
