²⁴ Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see. ²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out.

²⁶ For ye see your calling, brethren, that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: ²⁷ But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are: ²⁹ That no flesh should glory in his presence.

² For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; ³ And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say to him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: ⁴ Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?
