¹ Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. ² His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. ³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

⁹ Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thy increase: ¹⁰ So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

²² The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

⁸ For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

² With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love; ³ Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

¹⁴ Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

⁹ But concerning brotherly love ye need not that I write to you: for ye yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

¹⁴ Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

¹ Let brotherly love continue.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by them that make peace.

²² Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

⁸ Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another; love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

⁸ And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity will cover a multitude of sins.

⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

⁹ He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. ¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother, abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whoever hateth his brother, is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ By this we perceive the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But he who hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is from God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

²⁰ If a man sayeth, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he hath seen, how can he love God, whom he hath not seen? ²¹ And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God, love his brother also.

⁸ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. ⁹ And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. ¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden: and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

(Is it not a small one?) and my soul shall live. ²¹ And he said to him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for which thou hast spoken. ²² Haste thee, escape thither: for I cannot do any thing till thou hast come thither: therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. ²³ The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. ²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. ²⁶ But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. ²⁷ And Abraham rose early in the morning, to the place were he stood before the LORD: ²⁸ And he looked towards Sodom and Gomorrah, and towards all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt. ³⁰ And Lot went up from Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he, and his two daughters.

¹ Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for cattle; ² The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying, ³ Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, ⁴ Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle: ⁵ Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan. ⁶ And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? ⁷ And why discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them? ⁸ Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. ⁹ For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them. ¹⁰ And the LORD'S anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying, ¹¹ Surely none of the men that came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: ¹² Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. ¹³ And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed. ¹⁴ And behold, ye have risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD towards Israel. ¹⁵ For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and he will destroy all this people. ¹⁶ And they came near to him, and said, We will build sheep-folds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: ¹⁷ But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities, because of the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁸ We will not return to our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance. ¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance hath fallen to us on this side of Jordan eastward. ²⁰ And Moses said to them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, ²¹ And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, ²² And the land shall be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. ²³ But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. ²⁴ Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth. ²⁵ And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth. ²⁶ Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead: ²⁷ But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith. ²⁸ So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel: ²⁹ And Moses said to them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed for battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession: ³⁰ But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan. ³¹ And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said to thy servants, so will we do. ³² We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours. ³³ And Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities in the borders, even the cities of the country around. ³⁴ And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, ³⁵ And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, ³⁶ And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fortified cities: and folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, ³⁸ And Nebo, and Baal-meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names to the cities which they built. ³⁹ And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt in it. ⁴¹ And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them Havoth-jair. ⁴² And Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

³ And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm-trees, to Zoar.

⁴⁶ In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan.

³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell in it.

⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee to Zoar, a heifer of three years old: for they shall go up the ascent of Luhith with weeping; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise a cry of destruction.

³ For the LORD will comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

³⁴ From the cry of Heshbon even to Elealeh, and even to Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim, as a heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.

¹³ Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir-trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut-trees were not like his branches; not any tree in the garden of God was like to him in his beauty.

³ A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; and nothing shall escape them.

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

⁹ Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou wilt depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

¹⁴ And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

¹⁷ And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life: look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain: escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

³ But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

⁶³ I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

¹⁰ Thy own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbor that is near, than a brother far off.

²⁵ Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

¹² And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

¹ And there came two angels to Sodom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom; and Lot seeing them, rose to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face towards the ground;

²⁵ And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

³³ Be not deceived: Evil communications corrupt good manners.

⁷ And delivered just Lot, grieved with the habitual lewdness of the wicked: ⁸ (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, grieved his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

¹¹ The earth also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence.

⁹ He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

¹⁶ But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

²⁰ And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

⁴ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: ⁵ And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came in to thee this night? bring them out to us, that we may know them. ⁶ And Lot went out at the door to them, and shut the door after him, ⁷ And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. ⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out to you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only to these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. ⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one man came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: Now will we deal worse with thee than with them. And they pressed hard upon the man, Lot, and came near to break the door. ¹⁰ But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. ¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

⁷ And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

¹⁸ And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.

⁶ And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he committed much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

⁹ Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom; we should have been like Gomorrah.

⁸ For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory. ⁹ The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe to their soul! for they have rewarded evil to themselves.

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

⁴⁶ And thy elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways. ⁴⁸ As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at table in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

¹³ But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee.

²⁴ Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

²⁷ And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one towards another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

⁶ And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that afterwards should live ungodly lives.

¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed; they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to impurity, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest to Zoar.

¹⁴ And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth; and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

²⁷ Ascend to the top of Pisgah, and lift up thy eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold with thy eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

¹⁸ Lift up thy eyes around, and behold: all these assemble themselves, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.

⁴ Lift up thy eyes around, and see: all they assemble themselves, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, To thy seed will I give this land: and there he erected an altar to the LORD, who appeared to him.

¹⁸ In that same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, To thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee, in their generations, for an everlasting covenant; to be a God to thee and to thy seed after thee. ⁸ And I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

¹⁸ Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

⁷ The LORD God of heaven, who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, To thy seed I will give this land: he will send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife for my son from thence.

³ Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee: for to thee, and to thy seed I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham thy father; ⁴ And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to thy seed all these countries: and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed:

⁴ And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land in which thou art a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.

¹³ And behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

¹² And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

⁴ And said to me, Behold I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee, for an everlasting possession.

¹ And the LORD said to Moses, Depart and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast conducted from the land of Egypt, to the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, to thy seed will I give it:

² Command the children of Israel, and say to them, When ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan with its borders.)

¹² And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the limits of it shall be at the salt sea: This shall be your land with its limits on all sides. ¹³ And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe: ¹⁴ For the tribe of the children of Reuben, according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance: ¹⁵ The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side of Jordan near Jericho eastward, towards the sun-rising. ¹⁶ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun. ¹⁸ And ye shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide the land by inheritance. ¹⁹ And the names of the men are these: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ²⁰ And of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. ²¹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. ²² And the prince of the tribe of the children of Dan, Bukki the son of Jogli. ²³ The prince of the children of Joseph, for the tribe of the children of Manasseh, Hanniel the son of Ephod. ²⁴ And the prince of the tribe of the children of Ephraim, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. ²⁵ And the prince of the tribe of the children of Zebulun, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. ²⁶ And the prince of the tribe of the children of Issachar, Paltiel the son of Azzan. ²⁷ And the prince of the tribe of the children of Asher, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. ²⁸ And the prince of the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Pedahel the son of Ammihud. ²⁹ These are they whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance to the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.

² That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go to the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there. ³ And thou shalt go to the priest that shall be in those days, and say to him, I profess this day to the LORD thy God, that I have come to the country which the LORD swore to our fathers to give us. ⁴ And the priest shall take the basket from thy hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.

⁴ And the LORD said to him, This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, I will give it to thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thy eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

⁷ Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

⁷ Thou art the LORD the God, who chosest Abram, and broughtest him forth from Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham; ⁸ And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him, to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:

²² For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the earth; and they that are cursed by him shall be cut off.

²⁹ The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

⁹ Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; ¹⁰ And confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: ¹¹ Saying, To thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: ¹² When they were a few men in number; yes, very few, and strangers in it.

¹ Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. ² His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

¹⁸ The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.

⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

⁵ And he gave him no inheritance in it, no not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his offspring after him, when as yet he had no child.

² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: ³ And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

⁵ And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now towards heaven, and tell the stars, if thou art able to number them: and he said to him, So shall thy seed be.

⁶ And I will make thee exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of thee; and kings shall proceed from thee.

¹⁶ And I will bless her, and give thee a son also by her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall proceed from her.

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

¹³ And also of the son of the bond-woman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

¹⁷ That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is on the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

¹ Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. ² And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. ³ And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim and Leummim. ⁴ And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. ⁵ And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. ⁶ But to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son (while he yet lived) eastward, to the east country. ⁷ And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, a hundred and seventy five years. ⁸ Then Abraham expired, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. ⁹ And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; ¹⁰ The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. ¹¹ And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac: and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi. ¹² Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bore to Abraham. ¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The first-born of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, ¹⁴ And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, ¹⁵ Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. ¹⁷ And these are the years of the life of Ishmael; a hundred and thirty and seven years: and he expired and died, and was gathered to his people. ¹⁸ And they dwelt from Havilah to Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest towards Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren. ¹⁹ And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac: ²⁰ And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. ²¹ And Isaac entreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. ²² And the children struggled together within her: and she said, If it is so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD. ²³ And the LORD said to her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels: and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. ²⁴ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. ²⁵ And the first was born red, all over like a hairy garment: and they called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after that his brother was born, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them. ²⁷ And the boys grew: and Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man dwelling in tents. ²⁸ And Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. ²⁹ And Jacob boiled pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint. ³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. ³¹ And Jacob said, Sell to me this day thy birth-right. ³² And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birth-right bring to me? ³³ And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore to him: and he sold his birth-right to Jacob. ³⁴ Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he ate and drank, and rose and went his way: thus Esau despised his birth-right.

⁴ And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to thy seed all these countries: and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed:

³ And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

¹² And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹¹ And God said to him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a multitude of nations shall spring from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.

¹ Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. ² Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; ³ And Bashemath, Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth. ⁴ And Adah bore to Esau, Eliphaz; and Bashemath bore Reuel; ⁵ And Aholibamah bore Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: These are the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan. ⁶ And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance which he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their riches were more than that they might dwell together: and the land wherein they were strangers could not sustain them, because of their cattle. ⁸ Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom. ⁹ And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites, in mount Seir: ¹⁰ These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau. ¹¹ And the sons of Eliphaz were, Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz. ¹² And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife. ¹³ And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife. ¹⁴ And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon Esau's wife: and she bore to Esau, Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah. ¹⁵ These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the first-born son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz, ¹⁶ Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes, descendants of Eliphaz, in the land of Edom: these were the sons of Adah. ¹⁷ And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes, descendants of Reuel, in the land of Edom: these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife. ¹⁸ And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau's wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes, descendants of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah Esau's wife. ¹⁹ These are the sons of Esau (who is Edom) and these are their dukes. ²⁰ These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah. ²¹ And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom. ²² And the children of Lotan were Hori, and Heman: and Lotan's sister was Timna. ²³ And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. ²⁴ And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah and Anah; this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father. ²⁵ And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah. ²⁶ And these are the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. ²⁷ The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Achan. ²⁸ The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran. ²⁹ These are the dukes, descendants of the Horites; duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah, ³⁰ Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan; these are the dukes, descendants of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir. ³¹ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel. ³² And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad (who smote Midian in the field of Moab) reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead. ³⁸ And Saul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead. ³⁹ And Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab. ⁴⁰ And these are the names of the dukes, descendants of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth, ⁴¹ Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon, ⁴² Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar. ⁴³ Duke Magdiel, duke Iram; these are the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations, in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.

³ And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:

⁷ And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and became exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thine own self, and saidst to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

¹⁰ The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

⁵ For they came up with their cattle, and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.

⁸ And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

²⁰ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

⁵ And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword.

²³ But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

¹⁴ And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand. ¹⁵ And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand. ¹⁶ And next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor. ¹⁷ And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand. ¹⁸ And next to him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for the war.

¹⁸ O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: ¹⁹ Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like its gravel; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister to me.

¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all; ¹⁷ (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations) before him whom he believed, even God, who reviveth the dead, and calleth those things which are not, as though they were. ¹⁸ Who against hope believed with hope, that he should become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

¹² Therefore there sprang even from one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea-shore innumerable.

⁹ After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and languages, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

¹⁵ For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁷ And Moses sent them to explore the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go ye up this way southward, and ascend the mountain: ¹⁸ And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, few or many; ¹⁹ And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds; ²⁰ And what the land is, whether it is fertile or barren, whether there is wood in it, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes. ²¹ So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, as men come to Hamath. ²² And they ascended by the south, and came to Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) ²³ And they came to the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs. ²⁴ The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar.

⁴ To the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

¹³ And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

¹ And the LORD appeared to him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

² And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

²⁷ And Jacob came to Isaac his father to Mamre, to the city of Arbah (which is Hebron) where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

¹⁴ And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it is well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

²² And they ascended by the south, and came to Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

⁸ I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

⁸ I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
