¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. ¹² Lest when thou hast eaten, and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt in them; ¹³ And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold are increased, and all that thou hast is increased; ¹⁴ Then thy heart shall be lifted up, and thou shalt forget the LORD thy God (who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;)

¹⁵ But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou hast waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

²⁵ And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards and olive-yards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they ate and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness. ²⁶ Nevertheless, they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets who testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

¹⁴ From men who are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they afflicted like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride encompasseth them as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

⁴ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

²⁸ He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

¹³ (5:14)But those riches perish by evil labor: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. ¹⁴ (5:15)As he came into the world, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

⁶ Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

¹² And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: ¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we shall die.

⁸ For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

²³ Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

² And say, What is thy mother: A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions.

⁵ Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

The rich man also died, and was buried: ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

²⁸ But Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. ²⁹ For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nourished infants.

⁹ But they that will be rich, fall into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some have coveted, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹¹ For the sun hath no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and its flower falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

¹³ Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy, and sell, and get gain:

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bond-man, and every free-man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?

²⁸ And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth-eaten.

² For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

⁴ To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

⁴⁸ And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed:

⁵² This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.

³⁸ If my land crieth against me, or its furrows likewise complain; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits of it without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom; we should have been like Gomorrah.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

¹³ Woe to him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbor's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;

¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁷ And will not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night to him, though he beareth long with them?

²⁹ And as Isaiah said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like Gomorrah.

¹ Masters, give to your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

⁶ And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be to all that thou hast.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

¹⁶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with extended necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

¹¹ Woe to them that rise early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflameth them! ¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we shall die.

⁸ Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thy heart, I am, and none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

¹² Come ye, say they, I will bring wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to-morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.

³ But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried my heart towards thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

³⁴ Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

¹⁷ And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak to every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.

¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come, and assemble yourselves to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

⁷ He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.

³⁹ But I say to you, That ye resist not evil: but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

³⁴ Wherefore behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he will presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

²⁰ But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. ²⁵ Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

⁵¹ And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. ⁵² Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to him, Are ye come out as against a thief, with swords and staffs? ⁵³ When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time cometh, that whoever killeth you, will think that he doeth God service. ³ And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

⁹ And went again into the judgment-hall, and saith to Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. ¹⁰ Then saith Pilate to him, Speakest thou not to me? knowest thou not, that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? ¹¹ Jesus answered, Thou couldst have no power against me; except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me to thee hath the greater sin.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: ²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy One, and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you, ¹⁵ And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

¹⁰ Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you sound. ¹¹ This is the stone which was set at naught by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved.

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;

³² The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so he opened not his mouth:

²⁷ For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the words of the prophets which are read every sabbath, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. ²⁸ And though they found no cause of death in him, yet they desired Pilate that he should be put to death.

¹⁴ And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldst know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldst hear the voice of his mouth.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: ¹⁶ Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man shall draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

² Ye lust and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

²² Who committed no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³ Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

¹⁴ That I will give you the rain of your land in its due season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine and thy oil.

²⁴ Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season: he reserveth to us the appointed weeks of harvest.

³ Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he will come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

²³ Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

¹ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD will make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

²⁷ For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

⁴⁴ Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh.

¹⁵ But that on the good ground are they, who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, will he find faith on the earth?

²⁷ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.

⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, and honor, and immortality; eternal life:

²⁴ For we are saved by hope: But hope that is seen, is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it.

⁴ For whatever things were written formerly, were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

⁷ So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

⁴ But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;

⁵ For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

⁹ And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

¹¹ Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, to all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;

³ Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

¹³ To the end he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

¹⁵ And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

¹ Wherefore, seeing we also are encompassed with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, ² Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

⁸ Be ye also patient; establish your hearts; for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. ⁹ Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

⁴ And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

¹⁸ I have waited for thy salvation O LORD.

¹⁴ Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he will strengthen thy heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

⁷ Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

¹ +² (40:1)To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined to me, and heard my cry. ³ (40:2)He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

⁵ I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

²⁵ The LORD is good to them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

⁷ Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it may tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

²⁵ But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it.

¹¹ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

⁵ Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

¹⁰ And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.

⁵ And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

²⁵ Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. ²⁶ For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ But a certain fearful apprehension of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that despised Moses' law, died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much more severe punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge his people. ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ³² But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; ³³ Partly, while ye were made a gazing-stock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, while ye became companions of them that were so used. ³⁴ For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the seizing of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. ³⁵ Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. ³⁶ For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye may receive the promise. ³⁷ For yet a little while, and he that is coming will come, and will not tarry.

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch to prayer.

²⁰ He who testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly: Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And to thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; I am the LORD.

¹⁵ (59:14)And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go about the city.

¹⁴ For, if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: ¹⁵ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹ Judge not, that ye be not judged. ² For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and the measure which ye give, shall be measured to you again.

³³ So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

¹⁹ Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

²⁹ So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord shall come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise from God.

¹¹ Now all these things happened to them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

⁷ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or by constraint: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

²⁶ Let us not be desirous of vain-glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

¹¹ Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

⁵ Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.

⁹ Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man shall hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

⁸ Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they have received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

²² But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

¹⁶ Then said the princes and all the people to the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner. ³⁷ But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. ³⁹ And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

²³ Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers to the prophets.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

²¹ Whom the heaven must receive, until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets, since the world began.

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews: ¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

³² And what shall I say more? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah, of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: ³³ Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, ³⁴ Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. ³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: ³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, and, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, and goat-skins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; ³⁸ (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

⁷ Remember them who have the rule over you, who have spoken to you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their manner of life.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.

¹⁸ The LORD is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

¹³ And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

⁹ For if ye turn again to the LORD, your brethren and your children will find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they will return into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return to him.

¹⁷ And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst perform among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.

³¹ Nevertheless, for thy great mercies' sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

² And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

²¹ And said, Naked came I from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. ²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

¹⁰ But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¹⁵ Though he shall slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain my own ways before him. ¹⁶ He also shall be my salvation: for a hypocrite shall not come before him.

¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹⁰ And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. ¹¹ Then came there to him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house: and they condoled with him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an ear-ring of gold. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. ¹³ He had also seven sons, and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ¹⁶ After this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

⁶ Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy loving kindnesses; for they have been ever of old. ⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.

³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

³⁸ But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yes, many a time he turned his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

⁵ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and abundant in mercy to all them that call upon thee.

¹⁵ But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious; long-suffering, and abundant in mercy and truth.

¹² Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

¹³ Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

⁵ Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful.

¹³² Look thou upon me, and be merciful to me, as thou usest to do to those that love thy name.

¹ O give thanks to the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. ² O give thanks to the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. ³ O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever. ⁴ To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever. ⁵ To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. ⁶ To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. ⁷ To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever: ⁸ The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: ⁹ The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹⁰ To him that smote Egypt in their first-born: for his mercy endureth for ever: ¹¹ And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever: ¹² With a strong hand, and with an out-stretched arm: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹³ To him who divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹⁴ And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever: ¹⁵ But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹⁶ To him who led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹⁷ To him who smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: ¹⁸ And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever. ¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever: ²⁰ And Og king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever: ²¹ And gave their land for a heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever: ²² Even a heritage to Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever. ²³ Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever: ²⁴ And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever. ²⁵ Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. ²⁶ O give thanks to the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

⁸ The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than its beginning: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁷ I will mention the loving-kindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness towards the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

²² It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

⁹ To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;

¹⁸ O my God, incline thy ear, and hear; open thy eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thy own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

¹³ And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn to the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth of the evil.

² And he prayed to the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before to Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest of the evil.

¹⁸ Who is a God like to thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

¹⁰ Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

²² And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

⁵⁰ And his mercy is on them that fear him, from generation to generation.

³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

⁶ To the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath made us accepted in the beloved:

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,

⁶ But Christ as a son over his own house: whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence, and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end;

³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

⁶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season (if need be) ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: ⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though tried with fire, might be found to praise, and honor, and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

¹³ Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

⁹ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished:

³³ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform to the Lord thy oaths: ³⁴ But I say to you, Swear not at all: neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King, ³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your communication be, Yea, yea, Nay, nay: for whatever is more than these cometh of evil.

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it.

³⁴ And if any man hungereth, let him eat at home; that ye come not together to condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

¹⁷ When I therefore was thus minded, did I use levity? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea, yea, and nay, nay? ¹⁸ But as God is true, our word towards you was not yea and nay. ¹⁹ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me, and Silvanus, and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. ²⁰ For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, to the glory of God by us.

¹ My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. ² For in many things we all offend. If any man offendeth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

⁸ And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity will cover a multitude of sins.

² Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

²³ Then the lords of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. ²⁴ And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country; who slew many of us. ²⁵ And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison-house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

⁹ Sing to him, sing psalms to him, talk ye of all his wonderous works.

¹² And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ And prayed to him: and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he is God.

²⁶ He shall pray to God, and he will be favorable to him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render to man his righteousness.

⁶ (18:5)The sorrows of hell encompassed me: the snares of death seized me.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

² Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

² Sing to him, sing psalms to him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

³ The sorrows of death encompassed me, and the pains of hell came upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. ⁵ Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful.

⁵ I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

¹ Come, and let us return to the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

² (2:1)Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

⁷ (2:6)I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

⁵ For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

³⁰ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the mount of Olives.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground.

⁴² And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

²⁴ Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. ²⁵ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises to God: and the prisoners heard them.

²⁶ How is it then, brethren? when ye are assembled, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a language, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done to edification.

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. ⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. ⁹ And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹⁹ Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ¹⁷ And whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him that was able to save him from death, and was heard, in that he feared;

⁹ And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals of it: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and language, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ And hast made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living beings, and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living beings said, Amen. ¹⁰ And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb.

³ And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty four thousand, who were redeemed from the earth.

¹ And after these things I heard a great voice of many people in heaven, saying, Alleluia: Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, to the Lord our God: ² For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great harlot, who corrupted the earth with her lewdness, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. ³ And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. ⁴ And the four and twenty elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. ⁵ And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

³³ He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed to the LORD.

¹¹ But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

¹³ And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

¹⁸ They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

⁴⁰ But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning to the body, said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

²³ And when they had ordained for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

⁴ And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

⁸ And it came to pass that the father of Publius lay sick with a fever, and a bloody-flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

⁵ For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

²⁴ And the inhabitants shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.

² And behold, they brought to him a man sick with the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven thee. ³ And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. ⁴ And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why think ye evil in your hearts? ⁵ For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? ⁶ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick with the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go to thy house.

²⁰ And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say to you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say to this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, Verily I say to you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig-tree, but also, if ye shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. ²² And all things whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the sick with the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee. ⁶ But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? ⁸ And immediately, when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier, to say to the sick with the palsy, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? ¹⁰ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, he saith to the sick with the palsy, ¹¹ I say to thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go into thy house.

²² And Jesus answering, saith to them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that the things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he saith. ²⁴ Therefore I say to you, Whatever things ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

¹⁷ And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak in new languages; ¹⁸ They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.

³⁰ For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

²⁸ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of languages. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? ³⁰ Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak in languages? do all interpret?

⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

¹³ Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any cheerful? let him sing psalms.

¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ And if we know that he heareth us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired from him. ¹⁶ If any man shall see his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and he will give him life for them that sin not to death. There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

²³ And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are in it? ²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? ²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I, who am dust and ashes, have taken upon me to speak to the Lord. ²⁸ Peradventure there will lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. ²⁹ And he spoke to him yet again, and said, Peradventure there will be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. ³⁰ And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there will thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak to the Lord: Peradventure there will be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten will be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

⁷ Now therefore restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou shalt not restore her, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine.

¹⁷ So Abraham prayed to God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid-servants, and they bore children.

²⁸ And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God, and with men, and hast prevailed.

⁹ Then spoke the chief butler to Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day: ¹⁰ Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in custody in the captain of the guard's house, both me, and the chief baker:

²⁸ Entreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer. ²⁹ And Moses said to him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD'S.

³³ And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. ¹¹ And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why [] thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast [] forth from the land of Egypt, with great power, and with [] mighty hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians speak and say, For evil did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thine own self, and saidst to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. ¹⁴ And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people.

² And the people cried to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched.

¹³ And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians will hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;) ¹⁴ And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day-time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, ¹⁶ Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness. ¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, ¹⁸ The LORD is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation. ¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt, even until now. ²⁰ And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

⁷ Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ And the LORD said to Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. ⁹ And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I neither ate bread, nor drank water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁹ (For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you.) But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also. ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

¹⁸ So Samuel called to the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

¹⁹ And said to the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

⁶ And the king answered and said to the man of God, Entreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

¹⁸ And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come to me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? ¹⁹ And he said to her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. ²⁰ And he cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? ²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. ²³ And Elijah took the child, and brought him down from the chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. ²⁴ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

³³ He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed to the LORD. ³⁴ And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child became warm. ³⁵ Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, who dwellest between the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. ¹⁶ LORD, bow down thy ear, and hear: open, LORD, thy eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent him to reproach the living God. ¹⁷ Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, ¹⁸ And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only. ²⁰ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.

² Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the LORD, saying, ³ I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept grievously. ⁴ And it came to pass, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ⁵ Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up to the house of the LORD.

¹¹ And Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee. ¹² So the LORD smote the Cushites before Asa, and before Judah; and the Cushites fled.

²⁰ And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

²⁰ And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven. ²¹ And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword. ²² Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

¹⁷ LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thy ear to hear: ¹⁸ To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

¹⁵ (34:14)Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹⁸ The LORD is nigh to all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. ¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁹ The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹ Then said the LORD to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be towards this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

¹² Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray to me, and I will hearken to you. ¹³ And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

³ Call to me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

¹⁸ That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. ¹⁹ Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. ²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: ²¹ And he changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: ²² He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. ²³ I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known to me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known to us the king's matter.

²⁰ And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin, and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God; ²¹ Yes, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. ²² And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

³ (12:2)The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him. ⁴ (12:3)He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

⁶ And were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened to you: ⁸ For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, the door shall be opened. ⁹ Or what man is there of you, who, if his son shall ask bread, will give him a stone? ¹⁰ Or if he shall ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? ¹¹ If ye then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

¹⁵ Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. ¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.

²² And all things whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

³ And when he heard of Jesus, he sent to him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. ⁴ And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

⁶ And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

¹¹ If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he shall ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

¹ And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; ² Saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man. ³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; ⁵ Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. ⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. ⁷ And will not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night to him, though he beareth long with them? ⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, will he find faith on the earth?

³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

²⁴ And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, who hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that is in them; ²⁵ Who, by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were assembled against the Lord, and against his Christ. ²⁷ For in truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were assembled, ²⁸ To do whatever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. ²⁹ And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant to thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, ³⁰ By stretching forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. ³¹ And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

³⁸ That God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.

⁵ Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing by the church to God for him. ⁶ And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains; and the keepers before the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison; and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. ⁸ And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals; and so he did. And he saith to him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. ⁹ And he went out, and followed him, and knew not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ When they were past the first and the second ward, they came to the iron gate that leadeth to the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. ¹¹ And when Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I know with certainty, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

¹⁸ And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds.

¹⁰ As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

¹⁹ For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

⁹ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

²³ And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ Brethren, pray for us.

⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained testimony that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

⁷ By faith Noah, being warned by God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

¹³ And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

¹⁸ Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

²⁴ Who himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live to righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

²² And whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹ And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

²⁵ But I tell you in truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut three years and six months when great famine was throughout all the land:

²⁶ But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up: I myself also am a man.

¹⁵ And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you, that ye should turn from these vanities to the living God, who made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them.

² God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Know ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

¹⁸ And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, ⁴³ And said to his servant, Go up now, look towards the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. ⁴⁴ And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say to Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and go down, that the rain may not hinder thee. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²¹ Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, who do err from thy commandments.

¹¹⁸ Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.

²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

¹² As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

⁴ The diseased ye have not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.

¹⁶ I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

¹⁵ Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

³² But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

¹ Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye who are spiritual, restore such one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some have coveted, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

²¹ Which some professing, have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

¹⁸ Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

¹² Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; ¹³ And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

²⁰ Let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will hide a multitude of sins.

¹⁷ Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

¹¹ Woe to them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and run greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

²² And of some have compassion, making a difference: ²³ And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

¹ A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

¹² Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life.

¹⁴ If by any means I may incite to emulation them who are my flesh, and may save some of them.

²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

¹⁶ Take heed to thyself and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou wilt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: although I do not say to thee that thou owest to me even thy own self besides.

¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

¹⁹ Brethren, if any one of you should err from the truth, and one should convert him;

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
