Woe to you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. ²⁶ Woe to you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. ²⁷ But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to them who hate you, ²⁸ Bless them that curse you, and pray for them who despitefully use you. ²⁹ And to him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke, forbid not to take thy coat also. ³⁰ Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again. ³¹ And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. ³² For if ye love them who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to them who do good to you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to them from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much in return. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. ³⁷ Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: ³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye give to others, it shall be measured to you again. ³⁹ And he spoke a parable to them; Can the blind lead the blind? will they not both fall into the ditch? ⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect, shall be as his master. ⁴¹ And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thy own eye? ⁴² Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thy eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thy own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thy own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. ⁴³ For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. ⁴⁴ For every tree is known by its own fruit: for from thorns men do not gather figs, nor from a bramble bush do they gather grapes. ⁴⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is evil: for from the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. ⁴⁶ And why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? ⁴⁷ Whoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like. ⁴⁸ He is like a man who built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. ⁴⁹ But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that, without a foundation, built a house on the earth, against which the stream beat vehemently, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.

¹⁵ Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whoever eateth leavened bread, from the first day till the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

⁷ In the first day ye shall have a holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work in it.

¹⁰ Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, When ye shall have come into the land which I give to you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest to the priest: ¹¹ And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

¹⁵ And ye shall count to you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave-offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:

⁹ Seven weeks shalt thou number to thee: begin to number the seven weeks from the time when thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.

²⁵ When thou comest into the standing-corn of thy neighbor, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thy hand: but thou shalt not move a sickle to thy neighbor's standing-corn.

¹ At that time Jesus went on the sabbath through the corn, and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. ² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath. ³ But he said to them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him; ⁴ How he entered into the house of God, and ate the show-bread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? ⁶ But I say to you, that in this place is one greater than the temple. ⁷ But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.

¹⁰ If a man shall deliver to his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast to keep; and it shall die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:

¹⁵ Six days may work be done, but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whoever doeth any work in the sabbath-day, he shall surely be put to death.

² Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day there shall be to you a holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whoever doth work therein shall be put to death.

³² And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath-day. ³³ And they that found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. ³⁴ And they put him in custody, because it was not declared what should be done to him. ³⁵ And the LORD said to Moses, The man shall surely be put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

¹³ If thou shalt turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thy own ways, nor finding thy own pleasure, nor speaking thy own words:

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

²⁴ And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath that which is not lawful?

³³ And they said to him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him. ⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose, and stood forth. ⁹ Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath-days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

⁹ And immediately the man was healed, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. ¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, it is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. ¹¹ He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹⁶ And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see. ¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

³ Now therefore what is under thy hand? give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or what there is present. ⁴ And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under my hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. ⁵ And David answered the priest, and said to him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yes, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. ⁶ So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the show-bread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

³ But he said to them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him; ⁴ How he entered into the house of God, and ate the show-bread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

⁴ And he answered and said to them, Have ye not read, that he who made them, at the beginning made them male and female,

¹⁶ And said to him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith to them, Yes: have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

⁴² Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?

³¹ But as concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

²⁵ And he said to them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and they that were with him? ²⁶ How he went into the house of God, in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show-bread, which it is not lawful to eat, but for the priests, and gave also to them who were with him?

¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

²⁶ And concerning the dead that they rise; have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

⁵ And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes of it: two tenth-parts shall be in one cake. ⁶ And thou shalt set them in two rows, six in a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. ⁷ And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire to the LORD. ⁸ Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. ⁹ And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy to him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. ⁶ And blessed is he to whom I shall not be the cause of his falling into sin. ⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

²⁷ And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

⁷ And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

⁴ And it came to pass when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, who had cried against the altar in Beth-el, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it to him again.

¹⁷ Woe to the idle shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be wholly dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people.

And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him. ¹¹ And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it shall fall into a pit on the sabbath, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? ¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. ¹³ Then saith he to the man, Stretch out thy hand. ³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of naught.

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and elders, and all the council, sought false testimony against Jesus, to put him to death; ⁶⁰ But found none: and, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, it is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. ¹¹ He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk. ¹² Then they asked him, What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? ¹³ And he that was healed knew not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. ¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee. ¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. ¹⁶ And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is.

⁹ And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou shalt seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou shalt forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, who are present here, to offer willingly to thee.

² I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withheld from thee.

²¹ (44:20)If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

⁴ He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he hath set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

⁴ And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?

²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering, said to them, What reason ye in your hearts?

²⁵ And needed not that any should testify concerning man: for he knew what was in man.

⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.

¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

²⁶ For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely. For I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

²⁸ And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give to every one of you according to your works.

¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. ¹³ Then saith he to the man, Stretch out thy hand. And he stretched it out; and it was restored to a sound state like the other.

⁴ And he saith to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? but they held their peace.

⁵⁶ For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? ²⁰ The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who goeth about to kill thee? ²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. ²² Moses therefore gave to you circumcision, (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man. ²³ If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?

⁶ And the LORD said furthermore to him, Put now thy hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. ⁷ And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

⁶ And the king answered and said to the man of God, Entreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

²⁰ He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

⁵ And when he had looked around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

⁸ Jesus saith to him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁴ Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. ¹⁵ But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all.

⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them.

²⁸ And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

¹ After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and said, What do we? for this man performeth many miracles.

¹⁵ But when they had commanded them to withdraw from the council, they conferred among themselves,

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye.

³³ When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

⁵⁴ When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

¹¹ And I punished them often in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him, until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh: and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh; And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

¹⁵ (55:14)We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company. ¹⁶ (55:15)Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them. ¹⁷ (55:16)As for me, I will call upon God: and the LORD will save me.

³ They encompassed me also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself to prayer.

¹⁰ (6:9)Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

⁶ But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

²³ And when he had sent the multitudes away, he ascended a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. ²⁴ But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. ²⁵ And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

³⁵ And in the morning, rising a great while before day, he went out and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

⁴⁶ And when he had dismissed them, he departed to a mountain to pray.

³⁴ And saith to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful to death: tarry ye here, and watch. ³⁵ And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, If it were possible, the hour might pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.

² Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him that was able to save him from death, and was heard, in that he feared;

³⁶ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

²⁸ And Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, that ye who have followed me in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

¹³ And he goeth up upon a mountain, and calleth to him whom he would: and they came to him. ¹⁴ And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, ¹⁵ And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out demons. ¹⁶ And Simon he surnamed Peter. ¹⁷ And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, (and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder,) ¹⁸ And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Canaanite, ¹⁹ And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him: and they went into a house.

⁷ And he calleth to him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

³⁰ And the apostles assembled themselves to Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

¹ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will slay and persecute:

³⁰ That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

¹³ And when they had come in, they went into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

²⁰ And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone;

¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

¹ Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; ² That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

¹ And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

²⁰ Rejoice over her thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

¹⁸ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

²¹ And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets: and he called them.

³ Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus;

¹⁹ And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.

²⁹ And forthwith, when they had come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

³⁷ And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

² And after six days, Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up upon a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them.

³³ And he taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and to be very heavy;

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

¹⁰ And so was also James and John the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; which is, being interpreted, the Christ. ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas; which is, by interpretation, a stone.

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him described by Moses in the law, and by the prophets, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

⁵ When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come to him, he saith to Philip, Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat?

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith to him,

⁸ Philip saith to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

¹⁵ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him, Yes, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He saith to him again the second time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith to him, Yes, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him, Feed my sheep. ¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep. ¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou didst gird thyself and walk whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldst not. ¹⁹ This he spoke, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith to him, Follow me. ²⁰ Then Peter turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved, following; (who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?) ²¹ Peter seeing him, saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ²² Jesus saith to him, If I will that he shall tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me. ²³ Then this saying went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not to him, He shall not die; but, if I will that he shall tarry till I come, what is that to thee? ²⁴ This is the disciple who testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:

⁹ And as Jesus was passing from thence, he saw a man named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

³ Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus; ⁴ Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

¹⁴ And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alpheus, sitting at the receipt of custom, and said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

¹⁸ And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Canaanite,

²⁷ And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said to him, Follow me.

¹⁶ Then said Thomas, who is called Didymus, to his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

²⁴ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

¹³ And after they held their peace, James answered, saying, Men, brethren, hearken to me.

¹⁹ But I saw no other of the apostles, save James the Lord's brother.

⁹ And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go to the heathen, and they to the circumcision.

¹ James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, ¹⁵ And said, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. ¹⁶ And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

³ Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for it was he that was to betray him, being one of the twelve.

²² Judas, not Iscariot, saith to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world?

¹⁶ Men, brethren, This scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. ¹⁸ Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so that that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. ²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it: and, His bishopric let another take.

²⁵ That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

¹ Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

³ Who forgiveth all thy iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

¹⁷ Fools, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. ¹⁸ Their soul abhorreth all manner of food; and they draw near to the gates of death. ¹⁹ Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, he saveth them out of their distresses. ²⁰ He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease among the people. ²⁴ And his fame spread throughout all Syria: and they brought to him all sick people that were taken with diverse diseases and torments, and those who were possessed with demons, and those who were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. ²⁵ And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.

²¹ Woe to thee, Chorazin; woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁵ But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all.

¹⁴ And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion towards them, and he healed their sick.

²¹ Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the territories of Tyre and Sidon.

⁷ But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judea. ⁸ And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came to him. ⁹ And he spoke to his disciples, that a small boat should wait on him, because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. ¹⁰ For he had healed many; so that they pressed upon him to touch him, as many as had diseases. ¹¹ And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. ¹² And he strictly charged them, that they should not make him known.

²⁴ And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into a house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid. ²⁵ For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: ²⁶ (The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation,) and she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷ But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be satisfied: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs. ²⁸ And she answered and said to him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crums. ²⁹ And he said to her, For this saying, depart; the demon is gone out of thy daughter. ³⁰ And when she had come to her house, she found the demon had gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed. ³¹ And again, departing from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.

¹⁵ But so much the more a fame of him went abroad: and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

¹² And it came to pass in those days, that he went out to a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

²² And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same territories, and cried to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted with a demon.

¹⁵ Lord, have mercy on my son; for he is lunatic, and grievously distressed; for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water.

¹⁶ There came also a multitude out of the cities around to Jerusalem, bringing sick persons, and them who were afflicted with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

⁸ And the LORD said to Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. ⁹ And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

²¹ And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulcher of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet.

²⁰ (And behold, a woman who was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment. ²¹ For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.

³⁶ And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were restored to health.

¹⁰ For he had healed many; so that they pressed upon him to touch him, as many as had diseases.

³⁰ And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the throng, and said, Who touched my clothes?

⁵⁶ And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch, if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him, were healed.

²² And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man to him, and besought him to touch him.

¹⁷ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

⁴⁵ And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter, and they that were with him, said, Master, the multitude throng thee, and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? ⁴⁶ And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue hath gone out of me.

¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: ¹⁵ That whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁵ So that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. ¹⁶ There came also a multitude out of the cities around to Jerusalem, bringing sick persons, and them who were afflicted with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

¹² So that from his body were brought to the sick, handkerchiefs, or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

⁸ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

⁷ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

¹⁹ Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹ Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

¹⁹ The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁵ For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. ¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

² For all these things hath my hand made, and all these things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

¹² I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

¹¹ And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.

² And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, ³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called children of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

⁴⁹ And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! ⁵⁰ For whoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

³⁴ Then will the King say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

³⁴ And he looked around on them who sat about him, and said, Behold, my mother and my brethren! ³⁵ For whoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

²⁰ And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed are ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. ²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. ²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the son of man. ²³ Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers to the prophets. ²⁴ But woe to you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves excluded.

¹⁵ And when one of them that sat at table with him heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed.

²² Confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁶ For ye see your calling, brethren, that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: ²⁷ But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are: ²⁹ That no flesh should glory in his presence.

²¹ Therefore let no man glory in men: for all things are yours: ²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; ²³ And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

² That in a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy, and their deep poverty, abounded to the riches of their liberality.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

⁶ And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit:

⁵ Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

⁹ I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them who say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born to him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear?

⁶ And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

¹ A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. ² Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

⁵ They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. ⁶ He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless return with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

⁶ I stretch forth my hands to thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

² It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. ³ Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

¹ And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thy anger is turned away, and thou hast comforted me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

⁶ And on this mountain will the LORD of hosts make to all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

¹⁹ For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very gracious to thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.

³ For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy offspring: ⁴ And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.

⁹ That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places. ¹⁰ They shall not hunger nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

¹ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently to me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹⁷ For the iniquity of his covetousness I was wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. ¹⁸ I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to publish good tidings to the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; ² To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

¹³ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: ¹⁴ Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

¹⁰ Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

¹ Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and my eye shall weep bitterly, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.

¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ¹⁴ And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, and even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth. ²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spoke against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.

²⁵ For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.

¹⁶ But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.

⁴ And the LORD said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that are done in the midst of it.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

⁵³ He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.

²⁵ Woe to you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe to you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked him, and he would have given thee living water.

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst.

³⁷ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to me, and drink. ³⁸ He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁵ Jesus wept.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and ye will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

¹ I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me testimony in the Holy Spirit, ² That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. ³ For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ, for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;

⁴ Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble by the consolation with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ⁵ For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. ⁶ And whether we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow worketh penitence to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. ¹¹ For behold this very thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what avenging! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

²⁷ In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

² My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. ³ Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. ⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

⁶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season (if need be) ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: ⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though tried with fire, might be found to praise, and honor, and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ: ⁸ Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable, and full of glory:

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

³ And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God.

⁵ Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

¹⁸ And ye will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

²² And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

³⁹ He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.

⁹ But take heed to yourselves: for they will deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye will be beaten: and ye will be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. ¹⁰ And the gospel must first be published among all nations. ¹¹ But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Now the brother will betray the brother to death, and the father the son: and children will rise up against their parents, and will cause them to be put to death. ¹³ And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?

¹⁷ And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake.

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify concerning it, that its works are evil.

²² These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. ²³ Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. ²⁴ Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see. ²⁶ Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses.

³⁴ They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out.

⁴² Nevertheless, among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

¹⁸ If the world hateth you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things will they do to you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time cometh, that whoever killeth you, will think that he doeth God service.

¹⁴ I have given to them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

²² And they gave him audience to this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a man from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

⁵ For we have found this a pestilent man, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ring-leader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. ²⁴ From the Jews five times I received forty stripes save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; ²⁶ In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by my own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

²⁸ And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. ²⁹ For to you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; ³⁰ Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews: ¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² And all indeed that will live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

¹⁹ For this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience towards God endureth grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye bear it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

¹⁴ But if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: ¹³ But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as a busy-body in other men's matters. ¹⁶ Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

²⁷ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

³¹ Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless, they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets who testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

⁶ Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they have received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ² Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner.

³¹ Wherefore ye are witnesses to yourselves, that ye are the children of them who killed the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Wherefore behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb: and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

⁴⁴ For lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.

⁸ And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

⁵¹ Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;

¹⁰ Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

³ And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

⁵ Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: ⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; ⁷ And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

¹² If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ⁸ Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing.

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect to the recompense of the reward.

³² And what shall I say more? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah, of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: ³³ Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, ³⁴ Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. ³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: ³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, and, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, and goat-skins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; ³⁸ (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. ³⁹ And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

² My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful to death, and I will give thee a crown of life. ¹¹ He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches; He that overcometh, shall not be hurt by the second death.

⁵ He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

¹² Him that overcometh, will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

⁷ He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, and, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

⁶ (49:5)Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me? ⁷ (49:6)They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

¹⁶ (49:15)But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. ¹⁷ (49:16)Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁸ (49:17)For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. ¹⁹ (49:18)Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they afflicted like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride encompasseth them as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. ¹⁰ Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. ¹¹ And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High? ¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds. ⁶ Wherefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

¹ Hear this word, ye heifers of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. ² The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fish-hooks, ³ And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

¹ Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! ² Pass ye to Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? ³ Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat lambs from the flock, and calves from the midst of the stall; ⁵ That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁹ The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

² Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

⁵ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

¹⁶ Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to deposit my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I deposit all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried: ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

²³ And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. ²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly will they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?

¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have amassed treasure for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped your fields, which is by you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double. ⁷ How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. ⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

¹¹ And houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and wells digged, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; ¹² Then beware lest thou shouldst forget the LORD, who brought thee forth from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

⁵ They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath borne seven; and she that hath many children is become feeble.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his excellence shall mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds; ⁷ Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they who have seen him shall say, Where is he?

⁶ (22:5)They cried to thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. ⁷ (22:6)But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people.

¹⁹ (49:18)Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

¹³ Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

² I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?

³ Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

⁶ For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

²¹ And they shall pass through it, distressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

²⁰ And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

³ Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear to me.

⁷ The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may enter. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

⁷ But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are overwhelmed with wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

¹³ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. ⁵ In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. ⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

¹⁰ And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end of it as a bitter day.

¹⁰ For while they are folded together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

¹¹ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not a wedding-garment: ¹² And he saith to him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁵³ And they derided him, knowing that she was dead.

²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided him. ¹⁵ And he said to them, Ye are they who justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God.

⁴ Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

¹² I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. ¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

⁷ How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. ⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. ⁹ And the kings of the earth, who have committed lewdness and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

⁶ Then the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king. ⁷ And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we may inquire of him? ⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

¹³ And the messenger that went to call Micaiah, spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good. ¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith to me, that will I speak.

²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to thee? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son; ²⁷ And say, Thus saith the king, Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If thou shalt return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

¹⁰ Who say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

¹¹ If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood doth lie, saying, I will prophesy to thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹⁸ For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

⁸ And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the spirit of his mouth, and will destroy with the brightness of his coming: ⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all may be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will privately bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many will follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth will be evil spoken of. ³ And through covetousness they will with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that had quite escaped from them who live in error. ¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he brought into bondage.

⁵ They are of the world: therefore they speak from the world, and the world heareth them. ⁶ We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us; he that is not of God, heareth not us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

³ And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? who is able to make war with him?

⁴ If thou shalt meet thy enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If thou shalt see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

²⁹ If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or have lifted up myself when evil found him: ³⁰ Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tabernacle have not said, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

⁴ (7:3)O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands;

¹⁷ Rejoice not when thy enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth:

² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.

²¹ If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink: ²² For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.

⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy: ⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

²⁴ And he said to them, Take heed what ye hear: With the measure which ye give, it shall be measured to you: and to you that hear shall more be given.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the son of man.

⁸ And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundred-fold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁵ But that on the good ground are they, who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

¹⁸ Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whoever hath, to him shall be given; and whoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

³⁴ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

³⁸ That God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. ¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. ²⁰ Therefore if thy enemy hungereth, feed him; if he thirsteth, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁰ As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to them who are of the household of faith.

¹⁵ See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

¹¹ Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

¹⁵ Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;

⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Edom, who have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you;

²⁷ But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to them who hate you,

⁵ And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews, with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

¹⁴ Bless them who persecute you; bless, and curse not.

¹² And labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it;

¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but on the contrary, blessing; knowing that ye are called to this, that ye should inherit a blessing.

³⁰ And Mephibosheth said to the king, Yes, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king hath come again in peace to his own house.

²³ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak to thee?

⁶ I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

³⁰ He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

¹ (5:2)But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou art little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

³⁹ But I say to you, That ye resist not evil: but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. ⁴¹ And whoever shall constrain thee to go one mile, go with him two. ⁴² Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.

⁶⁷ Then they spit in his face, and buffetted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁴ And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

²² And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers who stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

² And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him, to strike him on the mouth.

⁷ Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

²⁰ For ye suffer, if a man bringeth you into bondage, if a man devoureth you, if a man taketh from you, if a man exalteth himself, if a man smiteth you on the face.

³⁴ For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the seizing of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

²⁶ If thou shalt at all take thy neighbor's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it to him by the setting of the sun. ²⁷ For that is his only covering, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth to me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

⁷ If there shall be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD the God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy poor brother: ⁸ But thou shalt open thy hand wide to him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thy eye shall be evil against thy poor brother, and thou shalt give him naught; and he shall cry to the LORD against thee, and it shall be sin to thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest to him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thy hand to.

¹ And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews. ² For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live. ³ Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth. ⁴ There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought to bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards. ⁶ And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. ⁷ Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said to them, Ye exact interest, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them. ⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, who were sold to the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold to us? Then they held their peace, and found nothing to answer. ⁹ Also I said, That is not good which ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? ¹⁰ I likewise, my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury. ¹¹ Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. ¹² Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise. ¹³ Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise. ¹⁴ Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor. ¹⁵ But the former governors, that had been before me were chargeable to the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants bore rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God. ¹⁶ Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither to the work. ¹⁷ Moreover, there were at my table a hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, besides those that came to us from among the heathen that were about us. ¹⁸ Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days an abundance of all sorts of wine: yet for all this I required not the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. ¹⁹ Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.

⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

²⁷ Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it. ²⁸ Say not to thy neighbor, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

²⁴ There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. ²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

¹⁷ He that hath pity upon the poor, lendeth to the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

²⁶ He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

⁹ He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)

⁷ Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou shouldst bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou shouldst cover him; and that thou shouldst not hide thyself from thy own flesh? ⁸ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rear-ward. ⁹ Then shalt thou call, and the LORD will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou shalt take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ And if thou shalt draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

¹ Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me to the east-gate of the LORD'S house, which looketh eastward: and behold, at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people. ² Then said he to me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:

⁴² Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away. ⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy: ⁴⁴ But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. ⁴⁶ For if ye love them who love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? ⁴⁷ And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? ⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

¹² And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

²⁷ Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. ²⁸ But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest. ²⁹ And his fellow-servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. ³⁰ And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

³⁵ So likewise shall my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye give to others, it shall be measured to you again.

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

³³ Sell what ye have, and give alms: provide yourselves bags which become not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

²² Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

³⁵ I have shown you all things, that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

⁶ But this I say, He who soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly; and he who soweth bountifully, shall reap also bountifully. ⁷ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or by constraint: for God loveth a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ (As it is written, He hath dispersed; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. ¹⁰ Now may he that ministereth seed to the sower, both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) ¹¹ Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings to God; ¹³ While by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution to them, and to all men; ¹⁴ And by their prayer for you, who long after you, for the exceeding grace of God in you.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

¹² Therefore all things whatever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

³⁹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

⁸ If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: ⁹ But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery; said also, Do not kill. Now if thou committest no adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. ¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy that hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. ¹⁴ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man sayeth he hath faith, and hath not works? can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ And one of you sayeth to them, Depart in peace, be you warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

⁴⁶ For if ye love them who love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? ⁴⁷ And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

⁸ But thou shalt open thy hand wide to him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thy eye shall be evil against thy poor brother, and thou shalt give him naught; and he shall cry to the LORD against thee, and it shall be sin to thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest to him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thy hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease from the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thy hand wide to thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

⁴² Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: ¹⁴ And thou shalt be blessed: for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

³⁵ And if thy brother shall have become poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he may be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. ³⁶ Take thou no interest of him, or increase; but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. ³⁷ Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.

²⁶ He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

⁵ A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

⁹ The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

⁷ And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

³² He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.

²⁷ But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to them who hate you, ²⁸ Bless them that curse you, and pray for them who despitefully use you. ²⁹ And to him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke, forbid not to take thy coat also. ³⁰ Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again. ³¹ And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

³⁵ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

⁸ In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

⁸ But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. ¹⁰ For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. ¹¹ For this is the message that ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. ¹² Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And why did he slay him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother, abideth in death.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is from God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

¹ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; ² And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.

¹⁵ But as he who hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of deportment. ¹⁶ Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

¹⁴ For, if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: ¹⁵ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

¹ Judge not, that ye be not judged. ² For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and the measure which ye give, shall be measured to you again. ³ And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thy own eye? ⁴ Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thy eye; and behold, a beam is in thy own eye? ⁵ Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

³⁰ And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

³⁴ And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due to him. ³⁵ So likewise shall my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

²⁵ And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

³ Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother shall trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he shall repent forgive him. ⁴ And if he shall trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day shall turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

¹ Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whoever thou art, that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest, doest the same things. ² But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth, against them who commit such things.

³ Let not him that eateth, despise him that eateth not; and let not him who eateth not, judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. ⁴ Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth: and he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand.

¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at naught thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. ¹³ Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling-block, or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. ¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean by itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. ¹⁵ But if thy brother is grieved with thy food, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy food, for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

³ But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment: yes, I judge not my own self. ⁴ For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. ⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord shall come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise from God.

⁴ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, ⁵ Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; ⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; ⁷ Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

³² And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

¹³ Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man hath a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

¹¹ Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. ¹² There is one lawgiver, who is able to save, and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

⁹ Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest to him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thy hand to.

¹⁶ If a false witness shall rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; ¹⁷ Then both the men between whom the controversy is shall stand before the LORD, before the priests, and the judges, who shall be in those days; ¹⁸ And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and behold, if the witness is a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; ¹⁹ Then shall ye do to him, as he had thought to do to his brother: so shalt thou remove the evil from among you. ²⁰ And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you. ²¹ And thy eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

⁷ And Adoni-bezek said, seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their food under my table; as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, who hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem: ²⁸ And hath extended mercy to me before the king, and his counselors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I assembled out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

²⁵ But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

¹¹ Then came there to him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house: and they condoled with him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an ear-ring of gold.

²⁵ (18:24)Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. ²⁶ (18:25)With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt show thyself upright;

⁹ Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thy increase: ¹⁰ So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

²² The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

¹ Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

⁶ Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, ⁷ Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, who have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

² For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and the measure which ye give, shall be measured to you again.

⁴² And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily, I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy that hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

⁵ And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, who art, and wast, and wilt be, because thou hast judged thus. ⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

¹⁶ For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led by them are destroyed.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

¹⁵ Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? no, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

⁶ Therefore night shall be to you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark to you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them. ⁷ Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yes, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

¹⁵ And the LORD said to me, Take to thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. ¹⁶ For lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, who shall not visit those that are cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that which is broken, nor feed that which standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces. ¹⁷ Woe to the idle shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be wholly dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

¹⁶ Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor. ¹⁷ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoever therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things upon it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth upon it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ye ought to have done, and not to leave the others undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

¹⁹ And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness,

³ If any man teacheth otherwise, and consenteth not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the doctrine which is according to godliness, ⁴ He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, from which cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, ⁵ Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

¹³ But evil men and seducers will become worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

²⁴ The disciple is not above his teacher, nor the servant above his lord. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he should be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord: if they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call them of his household?

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him two-fold more the child of hell than yourselves.

¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say to you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: ⁶ And he shall restore the lamb four-fold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. ⁷ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee from the hand of Saul;

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him. ¹⁰ But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

²⁰ And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹ The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.

³² And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it, to wit, Abner the son of Ner captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

⁶ But Levi and Benjamin he counted not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

² (36:1)To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

²⁸ Because he considereth and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

⁷ So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham. ⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. ⁴² Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. ⁴³ Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. ⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

¹ Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whoever thou art, that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest, doest the same things.

²¹ Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? ²³ Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonorest thou God? ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, through you, as it is written.

²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was.

¹⁶ But to the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee. ¹⁸ When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. ¹⁹ Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. ²⁰ Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thy own mother's son. ²¹ These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

¹⁷ He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbor cometh and searcheth him.

²² The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if thy eye be evil, thy whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees! hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering, to go in. ¹⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him two-fold more the child of hell than yourselves.

⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

¹⁵ The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

³² But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

⁹ And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. ¹⁰ And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. ¹¹ And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth, ¹² And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias, coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. ¹³ Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: ¹⁴ And here he hath authority from the chief priests, to bind all that call on thy name. ¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, Go, for he is a chosen vessel to me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel. ¹⁶ For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. ¹⁷ And Ananias went, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him, said, Brother Saul, the Lord (even Jesus that appeared to thee in the way as thou camest) hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. ¹⁹ And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples who were at Damascus. ²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

¹⁰ And said, O full of all subtilty, and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

²¹ Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? ²³ Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonorest thou God? ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, through you, as it is written. ²⁵ For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keepest the law; but if thou art a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. ²⁶ Therefore, if the uncircumcision keepeth the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? ²⁷ And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfilleth the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? ²⁸ For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: ²⁹ But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.

¹⁸ And all things are from God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and unblamably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: ¹¹ As ye know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, ¹² That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you into his kingdom and glory.

²¹ If a man therefore will cleanse himself from these, he will be a vessel to honor, sanctified and meet for the master's use, and prepared to every good work.

¹⁰ I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: ¹¹ Who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

⁹ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: ¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and anoint thy eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest see.

¹² (92:11)My eye also shall see my desire on my enemies, and my ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. ¹³ (92:12)The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. ¹⁴ (92:13)Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

⁴ What more could have been done to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected that it would bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

³ To appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me?

¹⁰ And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

¹⁶ Ye shall know them by their fruits: Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles: ¹⁷ Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ²⁰ Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them,

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

¹¹ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, ¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness, and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and piously, in this present world; ¹³ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Savior Jesus Christ;

¹² Can the fig-tree, my brethren, bear olive-berries? or a vine, figs? so no fountain can yield both salt water and fresh.

¹² These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about by winds; withered autumnal trees, without fruit, twice dead, plucked out by the roots;

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart, bringeth forth good things: and an evil man, out of the evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you, That for every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

³⁸ He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, Why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

¹⁹ Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ But Peter said to him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. ²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee. ²³ For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

¹³ Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.

⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God, and not from us.

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

²⁹ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

³ But lewdness and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; ⁴ Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

¹⁹ Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire from hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of animals in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind: ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁵ To execute judgment upon all, and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have impiously committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

⁶ A son honoreth his father, and a servant his master: if then I am a father, where is my honor? and if I am a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?

²¹ Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out demons? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁵ When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are: ²⁶ Then ye will begin to say, We have eaten and drank in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. ²⁷ But he will say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

¹³ Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say to you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

³ Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

²⁴ Therefore whoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

²⁸ Come to me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me: for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls.

⁵⁰ For whoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.

¹³ They on the rock are they, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

²⁸ But he said, Yes, rather blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

²⁶ If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

⁴⁰ And ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

³⁷ All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject.

⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father who hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught from God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned from the Father, cometh to me.

⁵² Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never taste death.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

¹⁷ If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

¹⁵ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me, shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, saith to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loveth me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but that of the Father who sent me.

⁹ As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. ¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things have I spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. ¹² This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do whatever I command you.

⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, and honor, and immortality; eternal life: ⁸ But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath: ⁹ Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; ¹⁰ But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile;

⁹ And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey him;

²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

¹⁷ Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

⁴ To whom coming as to a living stone, disallowed indeed by men, but chosen by God, and precious,

¹⁰ Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

⁷ Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

¹⁴ Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

¹⁵ But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou hast waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

¹⁸ Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

³¹ For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges:

² There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none besides thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

² And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

⁵ When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly-men made me afraid;

³² For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

⁴⁷ The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

⁶ For this shall every one that is godly pray to thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh to him.

³ The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift their waves. ⁴ The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yes, than the mighty waves of the sea.

¹ O come, let us sing to the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

¹ A Song of degrees. They that trust in the LORD, shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. ² As the mountains are round Jerusalem, so the LORD is around his people from henceforth even for ever.

²⁵ As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

⁸ But with an over-running flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye will have tribulation, but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master-builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth upon it. But let every man take heed how he buildeth upon it. ¹¹ For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if any man buildeth upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; ¹³ Every man's work will be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try every man's work, of what sort it is. ¹⁴ If any man's work abideth which he hath built upon it, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If any man's work shall be burned, he will suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

⁵⁵ O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

⁴ To whom coming as to a living stone, disallowed indeed by men, but chosen by God, and precious, ⁵ Ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. ⁶ Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner-stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein will be burned up. ¹¹ Seeing then that all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy deportment and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hasting to the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? ¹³ Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwelleth righteousness. ¹⁴ Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found by him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

²⁴ Now to him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

¹⁴ And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and isle were moved out of their places. ¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bond-man, and every free-man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

¹⁸ He who walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken to thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing proceedeth from our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then we had plenty of provisions, and were well, and saw no evil.

³¹ And they come to thee as the people come, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

¹⁴ I will not punish your daughters when they are guilty of lewdness, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for they themselves are separated with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

⁴³ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and he findeth none. ⁴⁴ Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. ⁴⁵ Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also to this wicked generation.

²⁰ But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and immediately with joy receiveth it; ²¹ Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended. ²² He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

²⁹ He answered and said, I will not; but afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

³ All therefore, whatever they bid you observe, that observe and do: but do not ye according to their works: for they say, and do not.

¹⁰ And then will many be offended, and will betray one another, and will hate one another.

¹⁷ And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they relapse.

⁴⁶ And why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

⁵ A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered, because it lacked moisture. ⁷ And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

¹² But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. ¹⁵ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell. ¹⁶ He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

²⁷ But those my enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleaneth it, that it my bring forth more fruit.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

⁵ For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter may have tempted you, and our labor be in vain.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ But a certain fearful apprehension of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that despised Moses' law, died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much more severe punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace?

²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. ²⁶ If any man among you seemeth to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

¹⁷ Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸ Also a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. ¹⁹ Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and tremble. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see then that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. ²⁵ Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

⁵ And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. ⁸ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

³ And by this we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
