¹³ Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

⁸ The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. ³ And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the son of God, command that these stones be made bread. ⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

³² (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

³⁶ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

³ Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and know the truth. ⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if received with thanksgiving: ⁵ For it is sanctified by the word of God, and prayer.

⁸ Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! ⁹ For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

¹⁶ Thou openest thy hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living creature.

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. ⁴⁸ I am that bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man shall eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. ⁵⁸ This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of waters: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.

² Wherefore the people contended with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why chide you with me? why do ye tempt the LORD?

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

¹⁶ Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

¹⁵ And now we call the proud happy; yes, they that work wickedness are set up; even they that tempt God are delivered.

³⁸ Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

¹ The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. ² He answered and said to them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed. ⁵ And when his disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. ⁶ Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. ⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. ⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? ⁹ Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? ¹⁰ Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? ¹¹ How is it that ye do not understand that I spoke not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? ¹² Then they understood that he did not caution them against the leaven of bread, but against the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

³ The Pharisees also came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

²³ And when he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things; and who gave thee this authority?

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

²³ The same day came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

³⁴ But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were assembled about him. ³⁵ Then one of them who was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

¹⁶ And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eating with publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners.

¹ Then came together to him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, who came from Jerusalem. ² And when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled (that is to say with unwashed) hands, they found fault.

¹⁵ Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

¹⁶ And others tempting him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

⁵³ And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to solicit him to speak of many things; ⁵⁴ Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something from his mouth, that they might accuse him.

⁵⁴ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, immediately ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. ⁵⁵ And when ye perceive the south wind blowing, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. ⁵⁶ Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky, and of the earth; but how is it, that ye do not discern this time? ⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

⁴⁸ Then said Jesus to him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

³⁰ They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him?

⁹ Then Peter said to her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold the feet of them who have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek wisdom: ²³ But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness;

⁹ Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.

³ He is despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign, and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. ⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly: so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

⁵ And when he had looked around on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

⁶ And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went around the villages teaching.

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, Effatha, that is, Be opened.

¹⁹ He answered him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you, how long shall I suffer you? bring him to me.

²⁹ And when the people were assembled in crowds, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet. ³⁰ For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of man be to this generation.

²⁹ Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. ³⁰ And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one shall go to them from the dead, they will repent. ³¹ And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one shall rise from the dead.

⁴¹ And when he had come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

⁶⁷ Saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not believe. ⁶⁸ And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. ⁶⁹ Hereafter will the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. ⁷⁰ Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.

³³ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled; ³⁴ And said, Where have ye laid him? They say to him, Lord, come and see. ³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! ³⁷ And some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? ³⁸ Jesus therefore again groaning in himself, cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. ⁴¹ These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him. ⁴² Nevertheless, among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

¹² (81:11)But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would not obey me.

³³ And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say to them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.

¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

¹² Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

⁸ Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me. ⁹ Then said I, I will not feed you: that which dieth, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat, every one the flesh of another.

⁶ Give not that which is holy to dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.

³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes, besought him to depart from them: for they were taken with great fear. And he went into the boat, and returned.

²¹ Then said Jesus again to them, I am going away, and ye will seek me, and will die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

³⁶ While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and concealed himself from them.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were uttered by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas became bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: but seeing ye reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁶ And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads: I am clean: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.

⁵ And when his disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

¹⁸ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, ye shall eat unleavened bread, till the one and twentieth day of the month at evening. ¹⁹ Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he shall be a stranger, or born in the land. ²⁰ Ye shall eat nothing leavened: in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

¹¹ No meat-offering which ye shall bring to the LORD shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.

¹⁹ And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰ And thou shalt put some of thy honor upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: ²³ And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

⁹ And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou shalt seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou shalt forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ¹⁰ Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong, and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

¹ At that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they sent out to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

¹³ And they sent to him certain of the Pharisees, and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

¹ In the mean time, when there was gathered an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Know ye not, that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? ⁷ Cleanse out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: ⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²¹ I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who maketh alive all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified a good confession;

¹⁴ Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they contend not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. ⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

⁴⁶ Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.

⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

¹⁷ O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thy inheritance.

¹⁷ Do ye not yet understand, that whatever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

⁸ Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? ⁹ Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

⁸ And immediately, when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

¹⁴ Afterward he appeared to the eleven, as they sat at table, and upbraided them with their unbelief, and hardness of heart, because they believed not them who had seen him after he was risen.

²⁵ Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit himself to them, because he knew all men. ²⁵ And needed not that any should testify concerning man: for he knew what was in man.

³⁰ Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest from God.

¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep.

¹² For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹¹ Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. ¹² For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need of one to teach you again which are the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food.

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give to every one of you according to your works.

⁴ Yet the LORD hath not given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

²³ (69:22)Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

⁵ They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: ⁶ They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: ⁷ They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. ⁸ They that make them are like them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

¹⁸ Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. ¹⁹ Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and see not; who have ears, and hear not:

² Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.

¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

¹² That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

²⁶ Saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive. ²⁷ For the heart of this people is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁸ (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) to this day.

¹² Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the present truth.

¹⁷ And they say to him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. ¹⁸ He said, Bring them hither to me. ¹⁹ And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ²⁰ And they all ate, and were satisfied: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. ²¹ And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

¹² And when the day began to decline, then came the twelve, and said to him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country around, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. ¹³ But he said to them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy provisions for all this people. ¹⁴ For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and broke, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they ate, and were all satisfied: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them, twelve baskets.

⁵ When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come to him, he saith to Philip, Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat? ⁶ (And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.) ⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred penny-worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them make take a little: ⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith to him, ⁹ There is a lad here, who hath five barley-loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? ¹⁰ And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. (Now there was much grass in the place.) So the men sat down in number about five thousand.

³⁴ And Jesus saith to them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. ³⁵ And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. ³⁶ And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ³⁷ And they all ate and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that were left seven baskets full. ³⁸ And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children.

¹ In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples, and saith to them, ² I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: ³ And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for some of them came from a distance. ⁴ And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? ⁵ And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. ⁶ And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and broke, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they set them before the people. ⁷ And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. ⁸ So they ate, and were satisfied: and they took up of the fragments that were left, seven baskets. ⁹ And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he dismissed them.

⁸ Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

¹² And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek for a sign? Verily I say to you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.

¹⁷ And when Jesus knew it, he saith to them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

⁹ Jesus saith to him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me Philip? he that hath seen me, hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that will be able to judge between his brethren?

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

³ And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

¹⁵ And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered to them.

²⁹ Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it to you.

²¹ Woe to thee, Chorazin; woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

³ And they come to him, bringing one sick with the palsy, who was borne by four.

²⁷ When she had heard of Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment. ²⁸ For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. ²⁹ And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that infirmity.

⁴⁵ And immediately he constrained his disciples to get into the boat, and to go to the other side before to Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

⁵⁵ And ran through that whole region around, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. ⁵⁶ And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch, if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him, were healed.

¹⁰ And the apostles, when they had returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place, belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

¹³ Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

²¹ The same came therefore to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

² Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

¹⁸ There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.

³² Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, saith the LORD:

²³ And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she will live.

³³ And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue.

⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, ⁷ And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went therefore, and washed, and came seeing. ⁸ And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

⁹ Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and anoint thy eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest see.

³⁶ And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said to him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

¹⁸ And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

³ And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ¹² For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more to the perfect day.

¹² For whoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

⁶ Being confident of this very thing, that he who hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

⁹ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

¹⁸ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

⁴ And Jesus saith to him, See thou tell no man; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened; and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

¹⁶ And charged them that they should not make him known:

⁴³ And he charged them strictly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

³⁶ And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them; so much the more a great deal they published it;

²³ And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw aught.

¹³ When Jesus came into the borders of Cesarea Phillippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am? ¹⁴ And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. ¹⁵ He saith to them, But who say ye that I am? ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon-Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I say also to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. ²⁰ Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

¹⁸ And it came to pass, as he was in retirement praying, his disciples were with him; and he asked them, saying, Who say the people that I am? ¹⁹ They answering, said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others say, that one of the ancient prophets is risen again. ²⁰ He said to them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answering, said, Christ of God.

⁵ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

² And said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he hath risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.

¹⁴ And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

¹⁴ And king Herod heard of him (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist had risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. ¹⁵ Others said, That it is Elijah. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. ¹⁶ But when Herod heard of him, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he hath risen from the dead.

¹¹ And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elijah must first come? ¹² And he answered and told them, Elijah verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written concerning the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at naught. ¹³ But I say to you, that Elijah is indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written concerning him.

⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said by some, that John had risen from the dead; ⁸ And by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that one of the ancient prophets had risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, John have I beheaded; but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? and he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

¹⁵ He saith to them, But who say ye that I am? ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹¹ And he said to them, To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

²⁰ He said to them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answering, said, Christ of God.

⁴¹ He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; which is, being interpreted, the Christ. ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas; which is, by interpretation, a stone. ⁴³ The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith to him, follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him described by Moses in the law, and by the prophets, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathanael saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

⁴² And said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.

⁶⁹ And we believe, and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

²⁷ She saith to him, Yes, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.

³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

²⁰ And immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

⁷ To you therefore who believe he is precious: but to them who are disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

¹⁵ Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

¹ Whoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat, loveth him also that is begotten by him.

²⁰ Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

²⁶ And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

⁹ And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

²¹ And he strictly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing,

⁷ And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

¹⁹ And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities, and your tribulations; and ye have said to him, No, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

²² The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

² After two days will he revive us: in the third day will he raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly: so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

²¹ From that time forth Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. ²² Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be to thee. ²³ But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men. ²⁴ Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ²⁵ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake, shall find it. ²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? ²⁷ For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works. ²⁸ Verily I say to you, There are some standing here, who shall not taste death, till they shall see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

²² And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be betrayed into the hands of men: ²³ And they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised again: And they were exceedingly grieved.

¹⁷ And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said to them, ¹⁸ Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be betrayed to the chief priests, and to the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, ¹⁹ And will deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he will rise again.

⁴² Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?

³¹ For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and after that he is killed, he will rise the third day. ³² But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes; and they will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles; ³⁴ And they will mock him, and will scourge him, and will spit upon him, and will kill him: and the third day he will rise again.

¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

²² Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised the third day. ²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? ²⁶ For whoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in that of his Father, and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you in truth, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.

²⁵ But first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

³¹ Then he took the twelve, and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. ³² For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked, and spitefully treated, and spitted on; ³³ And they will scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he will rise again. ³⁴ And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

⁶ He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke to you when he was yet in Galilee, ⁷ Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

²⁶ Ought not Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?

⁴⁴ And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

⁴⁸ He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

¹³ The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. ¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy One, and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you, ¹⁵ And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

³⁵ This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

⁵¹ Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers;

⁴ And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

²² Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be to thee.

³⁸ And he was in the hinder part of the boat, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say to him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

⁴⁰ But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

⁶ Then he cometh to Simon Peter: and Peter saith to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. ⁸ Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

²⁵ These things have I spoken to you in proverbs: but the time cometh when I shall no more speak to you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly concerning the Father.

²⁹ His disciples said to him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

⁴ And the serpent said to the woman, Ye shall not surely die: ⁵ For God doth know, that in the day ye eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened: and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. ⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise; she took of its fruit, and ate, and gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him.

²² And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries to me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

¹⁰ But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

⁵ Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

⁸ Reprove not a scorner, lest he shall hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. ⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁰ Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

³¹ Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or, with what shall we be clothed? ³² (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

³⁴ And he looked around on them who sat about him, and said, Behold, my mother and my brethren!

⁸ And Jesus answered and said to him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁵⁵ But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice.

⁵ For they that are according to the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace: ⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. ⁸ So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁵ To deliver such one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

²⁰ Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

¹³ This testimony is true: wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demoniacal. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by them that make peace.

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his seed shall possess it.

⁸ And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes;

²⁹ And if thy right eye shall cause thee to sin, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if thy right hand shall cause thee to sin, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in by it. ¹⁴ Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth to life, and few there are that find it.

³⁸ And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.

²⁴ Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they constrained to bear his cross.

¹⁴ And when he had called all the people to him, he said to them, Hearken to me every one of you, and understand.

⁴³ And if thy hand causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if thy foot causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And if thy eye causeth thee to fall into sin, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. ⁴⁸ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

²⁶ If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

³³ So likewise, whoever he is of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

²² Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

⁴⁵ Then in the audience of all the people, he said to his disciples,

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterward. ³⁷ Peter said to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

¹⁷ And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha:

¹⁹ This he spoke, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith to him, Follow me. ²⁰ Then Peter turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved, following; (who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?)

²² Confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.

¹ We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. ³ For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.

⁹ For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place; ¹² And labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things to this day.

¹³ Wherefore, if food maketh my brother to fall into sin, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to fall into sin.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more.

³¹ I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

²⁰ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

¹⁴ But may it never be that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

¹⁰ That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death;

²⁴ Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; lewdness, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busy-bodies.

¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness, and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and piously, in this present world;

¹³ Let us go forth therefore to him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

¹³ But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

¹⁴ Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me.

¹⁶ By this we perceive the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful to death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

¹¹ All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whoever, whether man or woman, shall come to the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except him to whom the king shall hold out the golden scepter, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days. ¹² And they told to Mordecai Esther's words. ¹³ Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house more than all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if thou shalt altogether hold thy peace at this time, then will there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house will be destroyed: and who knoweth, whether thou hast come to the kingdom for such a time as this? ¹⁵ Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, ¹⁶ Go, assemble all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.

²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah: ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they brought forth Urijah from Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

¹⁰ Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

²² And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

³⁹ He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.

²⁵ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

²⁹ And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the son of man. ²³ Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers to the prophets.

²⁴ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

³³ Whoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever shall lose his life, shall preserve it.

²⁵ He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, shall keep it to life eternal. ²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things will they do to you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

¹⁶ For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep, and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

²³ And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

⁸ Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

¹¹ It is a faithful saying: For if we are dead with him, we shall also live with him: ¹² If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: ¹³ If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

⁶ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. ⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: ⁸ Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me at that day: and not to me only, but to all them also that love his appearing.

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: ¹³ But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as a busy-body in other men's matters. ¹⁶ Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

¹⁴ And I said to him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they who came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, even, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

² Can a man be profitable to God, as he that is wise may be profitable to himself?

¹⁷ (49:16)Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

⁸ Again, the devil taketh him up upon an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them, ⁹ And saith to him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried: ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ, ⁹ And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:

²⁴ By faith Moses, when he had come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; ²⁵ Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; ²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect to the recompense of the reward.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun hath no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and its flower falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

⁷ How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. ⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

⁷ (49:6)They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁸ (49:7)None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

¹⁸ Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain course of life received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

² And he said, the LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir to them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set and the books were opened.

¹³ I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

⁵ And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal: yes, ye shall flee as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

²⁰ And Jesus saith to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

³² Whoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven. ³³ But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign, and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah.

⁴¹ The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them who do iniquity;

²⁷ For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works.

³⁰ And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

³¹ When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then will he sit upon the throne of his glory:

⁶⁴ Jesus saith to him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say to you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶² And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

²⁶ For whoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in that of his Father, and of the holy angels.

⁸ Also I say to you, Whoever shall confess me before men, him will the Son of man also confess before the angels of God. ⁹ But he that denieth me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God.

²⁶ For I say to you, That to every one who hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even what he hath shall be taken away from him.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

⁵¹ And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

³⁴ The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

⁷ So that ye were examples to all that believe, in Macedonia and Achaia. ⁸ For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

¹² For which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.

²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he had respect to the recompense of the reward.

² Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

²³ Whoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

¹⁴ And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, ¹⁵ To execute judgment upon all, and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have impiously committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
