And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell to me to this day? ⁴ And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, Make this man return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he should be an adversary to us: for with what would he reconcile himself to his master? would it not be with the heads of these men? ⁵ Is not this David, of whom they sung one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands? ⁶ Then Achish called David, and said to him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee from the day of thy coming to me to this day: nevertheless the lords favor thee not. ⁷ Therefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines. ⁸ And David said to Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant, so long as I have been with thee to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king. ⁹ And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle. ¹⁰ Wherefore now rise early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye shall have risen early in the morning, and have light, depart. ¹¹ So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

¹² And behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye will not prosper.

¹¹ And Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

¹⁵ And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD to you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. ⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

²² Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

³ Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shade of Egypt your confusion. ⁴ For his princes were at Zoan, and his embassadors came to Hanes. ⁵ They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

³ Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

⁵ Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. ⁶ For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drouth, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹⁷ As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

¹² O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

¹² (60:10)Wilt thou not, O God, who hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, who didst not go out with our armies?

⁶ The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do to me? ⁷ The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. ⁸ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. ⁹ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. ¹⁰ All nations encompassed me: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. ¹¹ They encompassed me; yes, they encompassed me: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. ¹² They encompassed me like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. ¹³ Thou hast violently thrust at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me.

¹ A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, who teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight;

¹⁰ For on this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

³ I have trodden the wine-press alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury, and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

²⁰ And the God of peace will soon bruise Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me, was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
