⁴ Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils,

²⁹ Men and brethren, I may say to you freely of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is among us to this day.

⁸ And he gave him the covenant of circumcision, and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day, and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs. ⁹ And the patriachs moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt; but God was with him,

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith, which he had in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all who believe in uncircumcision, that righteousness may be imputed to them also, ¹² And the father of the circumcision, to them who not only are of the circumcision, but also walk in the footsteps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision. ¹³ For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham or to his seed by the law, but by the righteousness of faith.

¹⁷ I have made thee a father of many nations) before God in whom he believed, as quickning the dead, and calling the things that are not, as though they were: ¹⁸ Who against hope believed in hope, that he should be the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if ye are Christ's, then are ye the seed of Abraham, and heirs according to the promise.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God.
