¹⁵ And the Jews marvelled, saying, How doth this man know letters, having never learned?

²⁸ And when Jesus had ended these sayings, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching, For he taught them as one having authority, ²⁹ and not as the scribes.

⁵⁴ he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, Whence hath HE this wisdom and these mighty works?

²² And hearing it they marvelled. And they left him and went away.

³³ God is not a God of the dead, but of the living. And the multitude hearing it, were astonished at his doctrine.

² And on the sabbath he taught in the synagogue, and many hearing were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? ⁷ And they were amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? ⁸ And how hear we every one, in our own native language? ⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and dwellers in Mesopotamia, and Judea, ¹⁰ and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Africk about Cyrene, and Roman sojourners, (Jews and Proselytes) Cretans and Arabians, ¹¹ we hear them speaking in our tongues the wonderful works of God? ¹² And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What can this mean? ¹³ But others mocking, said, They are full of sweet wine.

¹¹ This is the stone which was set at nought by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² And there is salvation in no other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

²⁴ And as he was thus making his defence, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself, much learning doth make thee mad.
