¹ And as he passed on, he saw a man who had been blind from his birth. ² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? ³ Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God might be made manifest thro' him. ⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is coming, when no man can work. ⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Having said this, ⁶ he spit on the ground, and made clay with the spittle, and anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, ⁷ And said to him, Go wash at the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went therefore, and washed, and came seeing. ⁸ Then the neighbours and they who had seen him before, when he was blind, said, Is not this he who used to sit begging? ⁹ Some said, This is he: others, He is like him: but he said, I am he. ¹⁰ They said to him, How were thine eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered and said, A man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam and wash. ¹² And I went, and washed, and received sight. He said, I know not. ¹³ They bring to the Pharisees the man who had aforetime been blind. ¹⁴ (It was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.) ¹⁵ Again the Pharisees also asked him, How he had received his sight? He said to them, He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and see. ¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner, do such miracles? ¹⁷ And there was a division among them. They say to the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, for that he hath opened thine eyes? ¹⁸ He said, He is a prophet. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, till they had called the parents of him who had received his sight. ¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? ²⁰ How then doth he now see? His parents answered them, and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind. ²¹ But how he now seeth, we know not, or who hath opened his eyes, we know not. ²² He is of age: ask him; he will speak concerning himself. His parents said this, because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed, That if any man should own him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. ²³ Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. ²⁴ Therefore they called a second time the man that had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered and said, That he is a sinner I know not: one thing I know, that I was blind, and now see. ²⁶ They said to him again, What did he to thee? ²⁷ How opened he thine eyes? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hearken: why would ye hear it again? ²⁸ Are ye also willing to be his disciples? Then they reviled him and said, Thou art a disciple of that fellow; but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spake to Moses; but we know not this fellow, whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not whence he is; altho' he hath opened my eyes! ³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners; but if a man be a worshiper of God, and do his will, him he heareth. ³² Since the world began it was not heard, that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered and said to him, Thou-wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. ³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and having found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? ³⁶ He answered and said, Sir, who is he, that I may believe on him? ³⁷ Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and he that talketh with thee is he. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. ³⁹ And he worshiped him. Jesus said, For judgment am I come into the world, that they who see not, may see, and that they who see, may become blind. ⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees that were with him heard this, and said to him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If ye had been blind, ye would have had no sin. But now ye say, We see: therefore your sin remaineth.

¹⁶ beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, The people who walked in darkness, saw a great light, and to them who sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them: And happy is he, whosoever shall not be offended at me.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes.

And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. ¹⁰ And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him. ¹¹ And he said to them, What man is there among you, that shall have one sheep, who if it fall into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold on it and lift it out? ¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath-day. ¹³ Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other. ¹⁴ Then the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might kill him.

²⁴ But the Pharisees hearing it said, This fellow casteth not out devils but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven; but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even what he hath. ¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah who saith, Hearing ye will hear, but in no wise understand, and seeing ye will see, but in no wise perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people is waxed fat, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed: lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and should be converted and I should heal them.

³³ Then they that were in the vessel, came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

¹⁶ Wo to you, ye blind guides; who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is bound. ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for which is greater? The gold? Or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? ¹⁸ And whosoever shall swear by the altar, ye say, it is nothing: but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, is bound. ¹⁹ Ye fools and blind; for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it and by all things thereon. ²¹ And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it and by him that dwelleth therein. ²² And he that sweareth by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to have neglected the others. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish; but within they are full of rapine and intemperance. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first, the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye are like whited sepulchres, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful, but within are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ So ye likewise outwardly appear righteous to men; but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁶¹ At last came two false witnesses, And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

³⁹ And they that were passing by reviled him, wagging their heads and saying,

² For I bear them record, that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For they being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

¹⁴ But how shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him, of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

²⁰ But Isaiah is very bold and saith, I was found by them that sought me not: I was made manifest to them that asked not after me.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh, but the election hath obtained, and the rest were blinded. ⁸ According as it is written, God hath given them a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompence to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

¹⁷ Were they not all that came out of Egypt by Moses? And with whom was he grieved forty years? Was it not with them who had sinned? ¹⁸ Whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he, that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? ¹⁹ So we see, they could not enter in, because of unbelief.

¹¹ Let us labour, therefore, to enter into that rest, lest any one should fall, after the same example of unbelief.

Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you, Which is lawful on the sabbath, To do good, or to do evil? ¹⁰ To save life, or to kill? And looking round upon them all, he said to him, Stretch forth thy hand; and he did so: and his hand was restored as the other. ¹¹ And they were filled with madness, and talked one with another, what they should do to Jesus.

²² Happy are ye when men shall hate you, and shall separate you from their company, and shall revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

Wo to you; for ye are as graves which appear not, and men that walk over them are not aware. ⁴⁵ And one of the lawyers answering said to him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

³⁰ But behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. ³¹ The same day came certain of the Pharisees, saying to him, Go out and depart from hence; for Herod is minded to kill thee. ³² And he said to them, Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow; and the third day I am perfected.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doth evil, hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he that practiseth the truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God.

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, while ye receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that is from God only? ⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you even Moses, in whom ye trust. ⁴⁶ For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

¹⁵ we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm to the end) While it is said; To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. ¹⁶ For who, when they had heard, provoked God?

⁷ Then I said, Lo I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God.

²⁶ For when we sin wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, brethren, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed: the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passions with us; and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and so the land gave forth her fruit.

⁹ But ye are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a purchased people, that ye may shew forth the virtues of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Who in time past were not a people, but now are the people of God;

²³ Who when he was reviled, reviled not again, when he suffered he threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

⁵ In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder, and be ye all subject to each other. Be ye cloathed with humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

⁸ If we say, we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful, and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say, we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes.

²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. ²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess, that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.

⁵ Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁰ He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the testimony in himself. He that believeth not God, hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the testimony which he hath testified of his Son.

¹³ These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the Son of God.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come; and he hath given us an understanding that we may know the true one; and we are in the true one, even in his Son Jesus Christ; this is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ I wrote to the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

¹⁷ Because thou sayst, I am rich, and have inriched myself, and have need of nothing, and knowest not, that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold purified in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayst be clothed, and the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and eye-salve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayst see.

⁹ And they sing a new song, saying, Worthy art thou to take the book and to open the seals thereof; for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, ¹⁰ And hast made them unto our God kings and priests, and they shall reign over the earth. ¹¹ And I saw and heard a voice of many angels, round about the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, ¹² Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive the power, and the riches, and the wisdom, ¹³ and the strength, and the honour, and the glory, and the blessing. And every creature which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all that are in them, I heard them all saying, To him that sitteth on the throne, and to the Lamb, is the blessing, and the honour, and the glory, and the power, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living creatures said Amen: and the elders fell down and worshiped.

¹⁷ That no man might buy or sell, but he that had the mark, the name of the wild beast, or the number of his name.

¹⁸ And there were lightnings, and voices, and a great earthquake; such as had not been since men were upon the earth, such an earthquake, so great.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine on it; for the glory of God hath inlightened it, and the Lamb is the lamp thereof.
