¹⁶ It is not therefore of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

²¹ Yet in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, that your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he privilege to become the sons of God, to them that believe in his name: ¹³ Who were born, not of blood, nor by the will of the flesh, nor by the will of man, but of God.

⁸ The wind bloweth where it lifteth, and thou hearest the found thereof, but canst not tell, whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

¹¹ our father Isaac, The children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil (that the purpose of God according to election might stand not of works, but of him that called,) It was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger.

²⁶ Behold your calling brethren: that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called: ²⁷ But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world, to shame the wise, and the weak things of the world, to shame the things that are mighty: ²⁸ And the base things of the world, and things that are despised, hath God chosen; yea, things that are not, to bring to nought the things that are; That no flesh may glory before him. ²⁹ But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who is made by God unto us wisdom, ³⁰ and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: ³¹ That as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

⁴ But God who is rich in mercy, ⁵ through his great love wherewith he loved us, Hath quickened us together with Christ, even when we were dead in trespasses, (by grace ye are saved) And hath raised us up together,

⁸ For by grace ye are saved through faith; and this not of yourselves:

¹³ For it is God that worketh in you according to his good pleasure, both to will and to do.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to Salvation, thro' sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. ¹⁴ To which he hath called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, inslaved to various desires and pleasures, living in wickedness and envy, hateful, hating one another: ⁴ But when the kindness and philanthropy of God our Saviour appeared, ⁵ Not by works of righteousness which we had done, but according to his own mercy he saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁸ Of his own will begat he us by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

⁹ But ye are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a purchased people, that ye may shew forth the virtues of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Who in time past were not a people, but now are the people of God; ¹⁰ who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
