¹³ Submit your selves to every human creature for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

²¹ They say unto him, Cesars. Then saith he unto them, Render unto Cesar, the things which are Cesars; and, unto God, the things which are Gods.

¹⁷ But Jesus answering said, Render to Cesar the things that are Cesars, and to God the things that are Gods. And they marvelled at him.

²⁵ And he said unto them, Render unto Cesar the things which be Cesars, and unto God the things which be Gods.

¹ Be subject unto all souls that are in authority. For there is no power but of God: those that be, are ordained of God. ² Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist, shall receive to themselves judgment. ³ For rulers are not a terror to a good work, but to an evil one. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: ⁴ For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the minister of God, a revenger upon him that doth evil. ⁵ Wherefore, be ye subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For, for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. ⁷ Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.

¹ Exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks be made for all men: ² For kings, and for all that are in supreme authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in godliness and honestly.

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work.

¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh, in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government: Presumptuous [are they], self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities:

⁸ Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. ⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil, he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. ¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts; in those things they corrupt themselves.
