¹ And it came to pass, that he was praying in a certain place; and as he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. ² But [he said] unto them, When ye pray do not use vain repetitions as the rest do, for some think they shall be heard for their much speaking. But when ye pray say, Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come upon us.Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth: ³ Give us this day the bread necessary to our sustenance. ⁴ And forgive us our debts; for we also forgive our debters. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ⁵ And he said, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves. ⁶ For a friend in his journey is come from the field to me, and I have nothing to set before him. ⁷ But he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not; the door it already shut, and my children are with me in bed, I cannot rise and give thee. ⁸ I say unto you, He will not rise and give him, because he is his friend: yet because of his importunity, he will rise and give [him] whatsoever he needeth. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, is opened. ¹¹ What son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, and he will give him a stone?or if he also ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² But if he shall ask an egg also, will he give him a scorpion. ¹³ If ye therefore being evil, know to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall the Father from the heaven give a good gift to them that ask him? ¹⁴ But when he had said these things, a dumb daemoniack was brought to him: And when he had cast him out, all men did marvel. ¹⁵ And some of them said, He casteth out daemons through Beelzebub, the chief of the daemons. But he answered and said, How can Satan cast out Satan? ¹⁶ And others tempting [him,] said, Give us a sign from Heaven. ¹⁷ But he knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against it self, is made desolate: and a house against a house, will fall. ¹⁸ If Satan also be divided against himself, he will not stand: because ye say that I cast out daemons by Beelzebub. ¹⁹ But if I by Beelzebub cast out the daemons, by whom do your sons cast [them] out[?] therefore shall they be your judges. ²⁰ But if I by the finger of God cast out daemons, then the kingdom of God is come upon you. ²¹ When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace. ²² But if a stronger shall come, he taketh all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils, ²³ He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth. ²⁴ But when the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through the waters [dry places] seeking rest: and not finding [it,] he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. ²⁵ And when he cometh, he findeth [it s]wept [and] garnished. ²⁶ Then he goeth, and taketh seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in, and dwell: and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. ²⁷ And it came to pass as he was speaking these things, a certain woman of the company lift up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed [is] the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou had sucked. ²⁸ But he said, Yea, rather blessed [are] they indeed that hear the word of God and keep it. ²⁹ And when the multitudes were gathered thick together, he began to say, This generation is an evil generation: they seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given it, excepting the sign of Jonas. ³⁰ For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. And as Jonas was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so shall also the son of man be in the earth. ³¹ The queen of the south shall rise up with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here. ³² -- ³³ But no one when he hath lighted a candle, putteth [it] in a secret place, neither under a bushel; but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. ³⁴ The light of thy body is the eye; When thine eye is single, thy whole body also is light: but when it is evil, thy body also is dark. ³⁵ If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness? ³⁶ -- ³⁷ And a certain Pharisee asked him that he would dine with him: and he went in and sat down. ³⁸ And He began to debate with himself, and to say, Why he had not first washed before dinner? ³⁹ But the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees Hypocrites make clean the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inside is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have: and behold, all things shall be clean unto you. ⁴² But wo unto you, Pharisees: for ye tithe mint and rue, and every herb, and pass over judgment, and the love of God. ⁴³ Wo unto you, O ye Pharisees: for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets: and the highest places at feasts. ⁴⁴ Wo unto you, O ye scribes and Pharisees; for ye are graves which appear not, and the men that walk over [them,] know it not. ⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Wo unto you also, lawyers: for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be born, and ye your selves touch them not with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Wo unto you: for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Bear ye therefore witness that ye do not allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, but ye build [their sepulchres.] ⁴⁹ Therefore I send them prophets and apostles, and [some] of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, unto this generation may be required; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, the Son of Barachias whom they slew between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, it shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Wo unto you lawyers: for ye have hidden the key of knowledge: and ye entred not in your selves, and them that were entring in, ye hindred. ⁵³ And as [he] said these things unto them, before all the people, the Pharisees and lawyers began to urge [him] vehemently, and to confer with him about many things: ⁵⁴ Seeking to obtain some occasion against him, that they might have wherewith to accuse him.

¹² And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in an Oratory of God.

¹⁸ And it came to pass as they were alone, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom do the multitudes say that I am?

²⁸ And it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, he took Peter, and James, and John, and went up into a mountain to pray.

³⁹ And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him. ⁴⁰ And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray, that ye enter not into temptation. ⁴¹ But he was withdrawn from them about a stones throw, and kneeled down, and prayed, ⁴² Saying, Father, Let not my will, but thine be done. If thou be willing remove this cup from me. ⁴³ And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthning him. ⁴⁴ And being in an agony, he prayed very earnestly: and his sweat was at it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. ⁴⁵ And when he arose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

²⁶ Likewise the spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession, with groanings which cannot be uttered. ²⁷ And he that searcheth the hearts, knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to God.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears, unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard, in that he feared;

² Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. ³ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

²⁰ But ye, beloved, building up yourselves in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

² And saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

¹⁶ Let your light so thine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorifie your Father who is in the heavens.

⁶ But thou, when thou shalt pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, shall reward thee. ⁷ But when ye pray, ye shall not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. ⁸ Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye open your mouth. ⁹ After this manner therefore pray ye; Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name. ¹⁰ Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done as in heaven, so on earth. ¹¹ Give us this day the bread necessary for our sustenance. ¹² And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debters. ¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ¹⁴ For, if ye shall forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if ye shall not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

³² Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in the heavens.

⁹ And heal those that are sick therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you ¹⁰ But unto whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of it, and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your feet which cleaveth to our feet we do wipe off against you. But know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh [you.]

⁷ To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, the called saints: Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

³ Grace [be] unto you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

² Grace [be] to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God, and our Father:

² Grace [be] to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

² Grace [be] unto you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Now unto God and our Father [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹ PAUL, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians, in God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace [be] unto you, and peace from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³ Remembring without ceasing the work of your faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God, and our Father:

¹¹ Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way unto you: ¹² And the Lord Jesus make you to increase and abound in love one towards another, and towards all men, even as we [do] towards you: ¹³ To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Amen.

¹ PAUL, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church or the Thessalonians, in God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ: ² Grace unto you, and peace from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God the Father, who hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation, and good hope through grace,

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded, and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever.

⁴ Who shall not fear [thee,] O Lord, and glorify thy name? for [thou] only [art] holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest O Lord.

⁶ And I heard the voice of a great multitude, and the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thundrings, saying Alleluia: forthe Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they satupon them, and judgment was given unto them: and the souls of them that had been conquered in war, for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the wild beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon [their] forehead, and in their Hand; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

¹¹ Give us this day the bread necessary for our sustenance.

³⁴ Ye shall not therefore be sollicitous for the morrow: for the morrow will be sollicitous about things for it self: sufficient for the day [is] the evil thereof.

²⁷ Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto eternal life, which the Son of man giveth unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. ²⁸ Then said they unto him, What shall we work that we may do the works of God? ²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye may believe on him whom he hath sent. ³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what thou dost work? ³¹ Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. ³² Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily verily I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is he who cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid there things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes, ²⁶ Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.

³⁵ So like-wise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother.

⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.

¹³ They on the rock, when they hear, receive the word with joy;these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

⁴⁶ And said unto them, sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

¹⁵ I ask not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil one.

¹³ There hath no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not leave you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me. ⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil-speaking be put away from you, with all malice. ³² Be ye therefore kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven us.

¹³ Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as the Lord forgave you, so also do ye.

³ But God is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep [you] from evil.

¹⁸ The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve [me] unto his heavenly kingdom; to whom [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; [and] let mercy rejoice against judgment.

⁸ If we say we have no sin, we deceive our selves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹⁰ Fear not those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and may have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

¹⁰ And thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

¹ He spake also a parable unto them, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; ² There was in a certain city a certain judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man. ³ And there was a widow in that city, and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a certain time: but afterward he came to himself, and saith, Though I fear not God, and regard not man, ⁵ Yet because this widow causeth me trouble, I will go away and avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. ⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith, ⁷ And, shall not God avenge his own elect, while they cry day and night unto him, and he compassionates them? ⁸ I tell you, He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

⁶ But Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thy self, for I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof.

²⁵ When once the master of the house shall be come in, and shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence you are:

¹⁷ From henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ.

²² And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried after him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a dæmon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she crieth behind us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent, but unto these lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, it is not lawful to take the childrens bread, and to cast it to dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters table. ²⁸ Then he answered and said unto her, Woman, great [is] thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt: And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

³⁰ Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

¹ For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and them at Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in the flesh:

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you; always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect, and fully assured in all the will of Christ,

²⁹ And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory, was not arayed like one of these.

⁷ Ask and it shall be given you: seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you: ⁸ For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, shall be opened. ⁹ Or what man is there of you, whom if his son shall ask bread, will he give him a stone? ¹⁰ And if he shall ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? ¹¹ If ye then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

²² And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

³¹ Whether of them two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and harlots go ito the kingdom of God before you.

²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, What things ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye shall receive [them], and ye shall have [them].

³⁷ And what I say unto you [is], Watch.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait door: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not find it. ²⁵ When once the master of the house shall be come in, and shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence you are:

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses did write in the law, and the prophets; Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Josephs. ⁴⁶ And Nathaniel said unto him, can any good thing be from Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile. ⁴⁸ Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and saith unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I law thee. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou woulst have asked him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

⁷ But if ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you, that you should go and bring forth much fruit, and your fruit should remain; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

²³ And in that day ye shall ask me nothing: Verily, verily I say unto you, If ye shall ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give [it] you. ²⁴ Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

⁴ And stedfastly looking on him, and being much affrighted, he said, What is it, Lord?And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. ⁵ And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose sirname is Peter: ⁶ He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, and honour, and immortality; eternal life:

² For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in a day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now [is] the accepted time; behold, now the day of salvation.

⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. ⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

¹⁶ Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace for seasonableassistance.

⁶ But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

⁵ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not[;] and it shall be given him,

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask according to his name, he heareth us. ¹⁵ [And] whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

²⁴ Bat unto you I say, the rest in Thyatira, who have not this doctrine, who have not known the depths of satan, as they speak, I put upon you none other burden.

¹ He spake also a parable unto them, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

¹¹ Behold, we count them happy who have endured. Ye have heard of the patience of job, and have seen the end of the Lord: that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

⁹ Or what man is there of you, whom if his son shall ask bread, will he give him a stone?

¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents, and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy;and nothing shall hurt you,

¹⁰ And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and in their tails their power was to hurt men five months.

⁴⁵ That ye may be children of your Father who is in the heavens; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

¹⁴ For, if ye shall forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

³⁰ Wherefore if God so clothe the grass of the field which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more do so to you, O ye of little faith?

³² For, after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

³⁰ But for thy son who hath devoured all he had with harlots, when he came thou hast killed the fatted calf. ³¹ And he said unto him, Thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine; ³² It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again;was lost, and is found.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Holy Spirit, be cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. ⁶ That which is born of the flesh, is flesh: and that which is born of the Spirit; is Spirit.

³⁷ In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood, and cried, saying, If any one thirst, let him come and drink. ³⁸ He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. ³⁹ But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him, should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [come] upon them, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.

³⁸ But Peter saith unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

⁹ Much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. ¹⁰ For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son: much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

¹⁷ For if by one offence, death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ For I know, that in me, that is, in my flesh dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to perform that which is good, I find not.

³² He that did not so much as spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

⁹ For if the ministration of condemnation be gory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. ¹⁰ For even that which was made glorious, had no glory in this respect, in comparison of the glory that excelleth. ¹¹ For if that which is done away [was] glorious, much more that which remaineth [is] glorious.

³ For we our selves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh, who corrected us, and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastned us, after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

³² As they went out, behold they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a dæmon. ³³ And when the dæmon was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. ³⁴ [OMITTED TEXT]

²² Then was brought unto him one possessed with a dæmon, [blind and] dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. ²³ And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? ²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard [it], they said, This man doth not cast out dæmons but by Beelzebub, the prince of the dæmons.

³² And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and he had an impediment in his speech: and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. ³³ And he took him aside from the multitude, and he spit, and put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue. ³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphetha, that is, Be opened. ³⁵ And his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. ³⁶ And he charged them that they should tell no body any thing: but what he charged them, so much the more did these people publish it. ³⁷ And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as the master, and the servant as his lord: if they shall call the master of the House Beelzebub, how much more them of his household?

¹⁸ If Satan also be divided against himself, he will not stand: because ye say that I cast out daemons by Beelzebub. ¹⁹ But if I by Beelzebub cast out the daemons, by whom do your sons cast [them] out[?] therefore shall they be your judges.

²⁰ The multitude answered and said, Thou hast a daemon: who seeketh to kill thee?

⁴⁸ The Jews, answered and said unto him, Say we not well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a daemon?

⁵² The Jews therefore said unto him, Now we have known that thou hast a daemon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayst, If a man observe my saying, he shall never taste of death.

²⁰ Many of them therefore said, He hath a daemon, and is mad; why hear ye him?

³⁸ Then certain of the Scribes and of the Pharisees answered him, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. ³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shalt no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet, Jonas.

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting, desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. ² But he answered and said, When it is evening, ye say, Fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning Foul weather to day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye can discern the face of heaven, but can ye not the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

¹¹ And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. ¹² And he sighed deeply in spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given to this generation.

³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what thou dost work?

²² For the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom:

⁴ And Jesus knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Wherefore think ye evil in you hearts?

²⁵ And needed not that any should testifie of man: for he knew what was in man.

²³ I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

¹⁰ Then said Jesus unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only thou shalt serve.

²⁶ But if Satan also cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom be established?

³¹ Wherefore I say unto you, all sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy of the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men. ³² And whosoever shall speak a word againt the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age, neither in that to come. ³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by the fruit. ³⁴ O generations of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh good things.

¹⁵ And some of them said, He casteth out daemons through Beelzebub, the chief of the daemons. But he answered and said, How can Satan cast out Satan?

⁵ In like manner also the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how little a fire how great a matter it kindleth. ⁶ And the tongue [is] a fire; a world of iniquity, [so] is the tongue amongst our members, It defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of gehenna. ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, of serpents, and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; an unquiet evil, full of deadly poison.

²⁷ But if I by Beelzebub cast out dæmons, by whom do your children cast [them] out? therefore they shall be your judges. ²⁸ But if I cast out dæmons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

⁴¹ The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonas, and behold, a greater than Jonas [is] here. ⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost part of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

⁴⁹ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out daemons in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

³¹ The queen of the south shall rise up with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here. ³² --

²² But he said unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man; I take up that I laid not down, and I reap that I did not sow:

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

²⁸ But if I cast out dæmons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

⁹ And heal those that are sick therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you

¹¹ Even the very dust of your feet which cleaveth to our feet we do wipe off against you. But know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh [you.]

²⁵ And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of Jesus, shall see my face no more.

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him unto his lodging; to whom he expounded testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets, from morning till evening. ²⁴ And some believed the things which were spoken, but some believed not. ²⁵ And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word. Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the Prophet, unto our fathers, ²⁶ saying, Go unto this people, and say unto them, Hearing, ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive. ²⁷ For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. ²⁸ Be it known therefore unto you, that this salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and [that] they will hear it.

⁵ A manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

²⁹ Or else, how can one enter into a strong mans house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house,

²⁷ No one can enter into a strong mans house, and spoil [his] goods, except he will first bind the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.

¹⁵ And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

⁸ But he that committeth sin, is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

⁴ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

¹ And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the abyss, and a great chain in hit hand. ² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years. ³ And cast him into the abyss, and shut [him] up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: after that he must be loosed a little season.

³⁰ He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth abroad.

⁴⁰ For he that is not against us, is on our part.

⁵⁰ But Jesus said; Forbid him not: for he that is not against you is for you.

¹⁵ I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot. ¹⁶ So then because thou art luke-warm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth:

⁴³ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. ⁴⁴ Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth his house empty; swept also, and garnished. ⁴⁵ Then goeth he, and taketh with him self seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and his last state is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

¹⁰ And besought him much, that he would not send them away out of the country.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, Come out of him, and enter no more into him.

² Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.

⁹ Whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and wonders of a lie. ¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness, in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth of Christ, that they might be saved. ¹¹ For this cause God sends them strong delusion, that they shall believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh, in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government: Presumptuous [are they], self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities: ¹¹ Whereas angels who are greater in power and might, bring not a railing accusation against them. ¹² But these, as natural brute beasts, made to catch people and to corrupt them, speak evil of the things that they understand not, and shall perish in their own corruption; ¹³ And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, [as] they that count it pleasure to riot in the daytime: sporting themselves with their own feasts of charity while they rejoice with you; ¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised in covetous practices: cursed children : ¹⁵ Who forsake the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam [the son] of Bosor,who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with mans voice, forbad the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, and mists that are carried with a tempest, to whom the blackness of darkness is reserved for ever. ¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that in some measure escape from them who live in error: ¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

⁸ Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. ⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil, he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. ¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts; in those things they corrupt themselves. ¹¹ Woe unto them; for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. ¹² These are those who are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with them, feeding themselves without fear: clouds without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withered, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; ¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

⁴⁵ Then goeth he, and taketh with him self seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and his last state is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

¹⁵ Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye compass sea and land, that ye may make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of Gehenna than your selves.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole; sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

⁴ For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightned, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, ⁵ And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come; ⁶ And are fallen away, to renew them again unto repentance: seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put [him] to an open shame. ⁷ For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: ⁸ But that which beareth thorns and briers, [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there is not another sacrifice left still to be offered. ²⁷ But a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that despised Moses law, died without mercy and tears, under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath troden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him that hath said, Vengeance [belongeth] unto me, I will recompence. And again, That the Lord shall judge his people. ³¹ [It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome; the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known [it], to return backward from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² It is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

¹⁶ If any one see his brother sin a sin not onto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin the sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

²⁸ And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail thou that art highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.

⁴² And she cried out with, a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.

⁴⁸ For the Lord hath regarded the low estate of his servant, for behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed.

²⁹ For the days will come, in the which they shall say, Blessed [are] the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave nourishment.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens: but he that doeth the will of my father who is in the heavens, he shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out dæmons? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me all ye that work iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doth them, he shall be likened unto a wise man who built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon the house: and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock,

⁴⁸ But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? or who are my brethren? ⁴⁹ And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren. ⁵⁰ For whosoever does the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother, and father, and mother.

⁴⁷ Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ He is like a man who built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation upon a rock: but when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock,

²¹ And he answered and said unto them, [My] mother and [my] brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

¹⁷ If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

²¹ Whrefore lay apart all filthiness, and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ If any one be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [in it,] being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have confidence towards God. ²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, that we believe on the name of Jesus Christ himself, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. ²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments, dwelleth in him, and he in him: and hereby we know that he abideth in us,by the spirit which he hath given us.

¹⁴ Blessed [are] they that wash their garments, that they may have power over the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³⁸ Then certain of the Scribes and of the Pharisees answered him, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. ³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shalt no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet, Jonas. ⁴⁰ For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whales belly: so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

³⁴ Therefore behold, I will send prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and [some] of them ye will kill and crucifie, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the land, from the blood of righteous Abel, unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye have slain between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

³⁸ But Whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in the glory of his Father, with the holy angels.

⁴¹ And Jesus answering, said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.

¹⁶ And others tempting [him,] said, Give us a sign from Heaven.

⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, unto this generation may be required;

¹ But as many people encompassed him round about, insomuch that they crouded one upon another, he began to say unto the disciples, First of all beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisie.

²⁵ And there went multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, ²⁶ If any man comes to me, and hates not his father, and his mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

¹⁸ The answered the Jews, and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, that thou dost these things?

⁴⁴ Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer of men from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

⁵¹ Ye stiff necked, and uncircumcised in hearts and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as did also your fathers, so [do] ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not they persecuted? and they have slain those who shewed before of the coming of the just one, of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

⁴⁶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, that Christ should suffer, and rise the third day. ⁴⁷ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, as far as all nations;beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost part of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

²² And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily appearance like a dove unto him, and a voice came from heaven, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee.

³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear him.

²⁷ And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

¹⁵ Who is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of the whole creation. ¹⁶ For by him were all things created that are in heaven, and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him. ¹⁷ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. ¹⁸ And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence, ¹⁹ For in him all the fulness was pleased to dwell.

⁷ By faith Noah being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

²⁶ For such an high priest became us also, holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

¹⁵ Neither do they light a candle, and put it under a bushel: but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. ¹⁶ Let your light so thine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorifie your Father who is in the heavens.

²⁷ What I tell you in darkness, speak ye in the light: and what ye hear in the ear, preach ye upon the house-tops.

²¹ And he said unto them, Is a candle lighted to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? ²² For there is nothing hid which shall not be manifested: neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

¹⁶ Now No one when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth [it] under a bed: but setteth it on a candlestick, that they who enter in may see the light. ¹⁷ For nothing is secret, that shall not be manifest: neither any thing hid, but that it shall be known, and become manifest.

⁹ Jesus answered, Hath not the day twelve hours? If any one walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me, should not abide in darkness.

¹⁵ That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom shine ye as lights in the world; ¹⁶ Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

²² The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. ²³ But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹² That seeing they may see, and not perceive, and hearing they may hear, and not mind; lest at any time they should be converted, and I should forgive their sins.

²² Covetousness, deceit, wickedness, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemies, pride, foolishness:

¹⁸ Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? neither do ye remember?

⁴⁶ And they all continued in the temple, and from house to house, and breaking bread, partook of meat with gladness and singleness of heart.

¹¹ And now behold, the hand of the Lord [shall be] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn [them] from darkness to light, and[from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me.

⁸ According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a share, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompence unto them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkned, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-wards.

⁴ In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine.

³ But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity and purity that is in Christ.

¹⁷ That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, in the knowledge of him;

⁵ Servants, be obedient to them that are masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart; as unto Christ:

²² Servants, obey in all things [your] masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord.

⁴⁸ Does any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believe on him? ⁴⁹ But this multitude who knoweth not the law, are cursed.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world: that they who see not, might see; and that they who see, might be made blind. ⁴⁰ But some of the Pharisees who were with him heard, and said unto him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus therefore said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see: therefore your sins remain.

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools:

¹⁹ And art confident that thou thy self art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law. ²¹ Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thy self? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² Thou that sayst a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? ²³ Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

¹⁹ It is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where [is] the wise? where the scribe? where the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? ²¹ For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself with vain words. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God: for it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. ²⁰ And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

¹³ Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge amongst you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if then ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife [is], there [is] also confusion, and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entrated, full of mercy and good fruits, without wavering, without hypocrisy.

⁹ But he that lacketh these things, is blind, and cannot see far off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that in some measure escape from them who live in error:

¹⁷ Because thou sayst, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away, even that he hath.

⁵² He saith unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens, is like unto a man that is an householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

²⁴ And he said unto them, Take heed what you hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you. ²⁵ For he that hath, to him shall be added: and he that hath not, from him, shall be taken even that which he hath.

⁶ For God commanded the light to shine out of darkness, [and] hath shined in our hearts, to illuminate the knowledge of his glory, in the person of Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the flight of men, the cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive:

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God.

¹⁵ And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

¹⁴ But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, to those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [in it,] being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

¹⁸ But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: to him [be] glory, both now and for ever. Amen.

¹ And it came to pass, as he entred into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath, that they watched him.

¹⁹ For though I be free from all men, yet have I made my self servant unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as not being my self under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; ²¹ To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ) that I might gain them that are without law. ²² To the weak became I weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save all men. ²³ And I do all things for the gospels sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [you].

² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. ³ But he answered and said, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

² And when they knew some of his disciples did eat the loaves with common, that is to say with unwashen hands, they condemned [them]. ³ For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash hands often, eat not bread, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ And when they come from the market, except they wash they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to observe; the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels, and of beds. ⁵ And the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with common hands?

²⁵ Now there arose a question between [some] of Johns disciples and the Jews, about purifying.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves,

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by the fruit. ³⁴ O generations of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh good things. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure, bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemy.

²⁵ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that within the cup, that the outside of it may be clean also.

¹³ And when Jesus saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justifie your selves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is high amongst men, [is] abomination in the sight of God.

⁶ But he said this, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag, he bare what was put therein.

² And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Scarioth the Son of Simon that he should betray him.

³ But Peter said unto Ananias, Why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and for thee to keep back [part] of the price of the land?

²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: thy heart is not right before God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. ²³ For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and the bond of iniquity.

¹⁴ And profited in the Jews religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away:

¹⁵ Unto the pure all things [are] pure: but unto them that are defiled, and unbelieving, [is] nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you: cleanse the hands, ye sinners, and purify the hearts, ye double-minded.

¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?

²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that within the cup, that the outside of it may be clean also.

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: [then] whose shall those things be which thou hast provided;

²⁵ But he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart as to all that the prophets have spoken!

³⁶ Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickned except it die first.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh, who corrected us, and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

⁴² Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow, thou shalt not turn away.

¹ Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father in the heavens. ² Therefore, when thou shalt do alms, thou shalt not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may be glorified of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. ³ But when thou dost alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth: ⁴ That thine alms may be in secret: and thy father who seeth in scret, himself shall reward thee.

³⁴ Than shall the king say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the World. ³⁵ For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in: ³⁶ Naked; and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed [thee]? or thisty, and gave [thee] drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and took [thee] in? and naked, and clothed [thee]? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer, and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.

¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

³³ Sell that ye have, and give alms: provide your selves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens, that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not [thy] friends, nor thy brethren, nor neighbours, nor the rich, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompence be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind; ¹⁴ And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompence thee: for thou shalt be recompenced at the resurrection of the just.

⁹ And I say unto you, Make to your selves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness;that when it fails, they may receive you into everlasting tabernacles.

²² Now when Jesus heard [him,] he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: Sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in the heavens: and come, follow me.

⁸ And Zaccheus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor: and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore fourfold.

³⁶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, who by interpretation is called Dorcas [a Doe] this woman was full of good works, and alms deeds which she did.

³⁸ And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring [him],Do not thou delay to come to us. ³⁹ Then Peter arose, and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper room, and all the widows stood round about him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made while she was with them.

¹⁵ And the voice [spake] unto him again the second time. What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

³¹ And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance before God. ³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon whose sirname is Peter; he lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea; who when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

²⁹ But the disciples, every man according to their ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren who dwelt in Judea.

¹⁷ Now after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation, offerings, and vows.

¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of it self: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him [it is] unclean. ¹⁵ For if thy brother be grieved with meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not then our good be evil spoken of. ¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. ¹⁸ For he that in these things serveth Christ, [is] acceptable to God, and approved of men.

⁷ Therefore as ye abound in every thing, in faith, in utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us; that ye abound in this grace also. ⁸ I speak not by commandment, but on account of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

¹² For if there be first a willing mind, [it is] accepted according to that a man hath, not according to that he hath not.

⁶ But thus, He who soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly: and he who soweth bountifully, shall reap bountifully. ⁷ Every man according as he purposeth in his heart; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God [is] able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor; his righteousness remaineth for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that ministreth seed to the sower, will both minister bread for your food, and will multiply your seed sown, and will increase the fruits of your righteousness. ¹¹ Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. ¹² For the administration of this service, not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; ¹³ Whiles by the experiment of this ministration, they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men. ¹⁴ And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks [be] unto God for his unspeakable gift.

²⁸ Let him that stole, steal no more; but rather let him labour; working with his own hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

⁴ For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: ⁵ For it is sanctified by the word of God, and prayer.

¹⁰ For God [is] not unrighteous, to forget your work of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministred to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁶ But to do good, and to communicate, forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased,

²⁷ For pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹⁴ What profit [is it,] my Brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, or destitute of daily food; ¹⁶ And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be you warmed, and filled: notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what profit is it?

¹⁶ Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

¹³ But wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to enter.

²³ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

²⁷ Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye are like unto whited sepulchres. The sepulchre appears beautiful outward, but is within full of dead mens bones, and of all uncleanness.

¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I posses.

⁴² But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

¹¹ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men: ¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;

²⁰ If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men Rabbi, Rabbi.

³⁸ But he said unto them as he was teaching, Beware of the scribes, and publicans, who delight to go in long clothing, and to be saluted in the markets. ³⁹ And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost seats at feasts:

⁷ But he spake also a parable to those who were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats, saying unto them, ⁸ When thou shall be invited to a wedding, sit not down in the highest seat, lest one more honourable than thou come; ⁹ And he that invited thee and him, come and [say] to thee, Give this man place; and thou with shame take the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when thou shall be invited sit down in the lowest place; that when he that inviteth thee shall come, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: And then shalt thou have respect in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. ¹¹ For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief seats at feasts;

¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another; with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.

³ [Do] nothing through strife, or vain-glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.

² For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; ³ And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under the footstool of my feet[.] ⁴ Are ye not then partial in your selves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

⁹ I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

²⁷ Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye are like unto whited sepulchres. The sepulchre appears beautiful outward, but is within full of dead mens bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquity.

³ Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou and judgest me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

³⁵ Then one of them, a lawyer, asked a question, tempting him, and saying,

⁴⁶ And he said, Wo unto you also, lawyers: for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be born, and ye your selves touch them not with one of your fingers.

⁵² Wo unto you lawyers: for ye have hidden the key of knowledge: and ye entred not in your selves, and them that were entring in, ye hindred.

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testifie of it, that the works thereof are evil.

⁴⁸ Does any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believe on him?

² saying, The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses seat. ³ All therefore whatsoever they say to you observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. ⁴ For they bind heavy burdens, and grievous to be born, and lay on mens shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with their finger.

⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

¹³ For neither they themselves who are circumcised, keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

²⁹ Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, ³⁰ And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Wherefore ye be witnesses unto your selves, that ye are the children of them who have killed the prophets. ³² Ye have also filled up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the judgment of Gehenna?

⁵¹ Ye stiff necked, and uncircumcised in hearts and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as did also your fathers, so [do] ye.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us; and please not God, and are contrary to all men:

³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again therefore, he sent other servants, more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. ³⁷ But last of all, he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

³¹ Wherefore ye be witnesses unto your selves, that ye are the children of them who have killed the prophets.

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection. ³⁶ And others had trial of mockings, and scourgings, yea moreover, of bonds, and imprisonment. ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheep-skins, and goat-skins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented: ³⁸ Of whom the world was not worthy, they wandered in deserts, and mountains, and dens and caves of the earth.

¹⁰ Brethren, ye have the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

⁶ And the remnant took his servants, and treated [them] injuriously, and slew [them].

¹⁶ And ye will be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and [some] of you will they cause to be put to death. ¹⁷ And ye will be hated of all for my names sake.

⁴⁷ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, as far as all nations;beginning at Jerusalem.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: But the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth God service.

⁸ But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

⁵⁷ Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

³ And Saul made havock of the church, entring into every house, and haling men and women, committed [them] to prison.

¹ And Saul yet breathing out threatnings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, ² And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he should find any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

¹ Now at that time Herod the king laid [his] hands to afflict certain of the church in Judea. ² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

⁴ And I persecuted this way unto death, binding and delivering unto prison both men and women. ⁵ As also the high priest will bear me witness, and all the Presbytery: from whom I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them who were there bound unto Jerusalem, that they might be punished.

²⁰ And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I was standing by, and consenting, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

¹⁰ Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my voice against [them]. ¹¹ And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled [them] to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted [them] even unto strange cities.

²⁴ But unto them who are called both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

³⁰ But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty [stripes] save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck; a night and a day I have been in the deep:

¹¹ And he hath given some, apostles: and some, prophets: and some, evangelists: and some, pastors and teachers;

³ In whom are all the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and the saints and the apostles and prophets, for God hath avenged you on her. ²¹ And an angel took up a stone like a great milstone, and cast it into the tea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. ²² And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, shall be found any more in thee, and the sound of a milstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; ²³ And the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived: ²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the land, from the blood of righteous Abel, unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye have slain between the temple and the altar.

⁴ By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness, that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead, yet speaketh.

²⁴ And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than Abel.

¹² Not as Cain was of that wicked one, and slew his brother: And wherefore slew he him? Because his own Works were evil, and his brothers righteous.

⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Wo unto you also, lawyers: for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be born, and ye your selves touch them not with one of your fingers.

³⁹ But some of the Pharisees from among the multitude, said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ But he answered and said unto them, I say unto you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would cry out.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Does any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believe on him? ⁴⁹ But this multitude who knoweth not the law, are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus saith unto them, being one of them; he that came to Jesus by night, at the first. ⁵¹ Doth our law judge a man before it will hear him, and know what he hath done? ⁵² The answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Behold the scriptures: for out of Galilee hath arisen no prophet.

²⁴ They called again him that was blind, a second time, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered therefore, Whether he be a sinner I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I had been blind, now I see. ²⁶ They said therefore to him, What did he to thee? and how opened he thine eyes? ²⁷ But he said, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ But they reviled him, and said Thou art his disciple; We are Moses disciples. ²⁹ We know that God hath spoken unto Moses, and that God heareth not sinners. As for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said, Why, herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes. ³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any one be a worshipper of God, and doth his will, him he heareth. ³² From the beginning it has not be heard that any one opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not of God he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered him, and said, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? An they cast him out.

¹⁷ [But] that it spread no further among the people, we will therefore threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.

⁴⁰ And to him they submitted: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten [them,] they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

²⁰ And going away they sent forth spies, which should feign themselves to be just men, that they might take hold of his words that so they might deliver him unto the governor.

²⁷ Then came to him certain of the Sadducees who say there is no resurrection, and asked him,

⁵ Doth not behave it self unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil,

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in talk.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

² And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath, that they might accuse him.

¹³ And they send certain of the Pharisees, and of the Herodians, to entangle him in [his] words.
