²¹ Ye have heard, that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill: and whosoever shall kill, shall be lyable to the judgment. ²² But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be lyable to the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be lyable to the sanhedrim: but whosoever shalt say, Thou fool, shall be lyable to gehenna of fire.

²⁷ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery. ²⁸ But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart,

³³ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shall perform unto the Lord thine Oaths. ³⁴ But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is Gods throne: ³⁵ Nor by the earth, for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your communication be Yes, yes; No, no: for whatsoever [is] more than these, cometh of the evil one.

⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy: ⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that do spitefully use and persecute you:

¹⁷ And he said unto him, [Read Why callest thou me Good? There is none good but one; God.] Why dost thou ask me about a good thing? there is one that is good: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. ¹⁸ He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said thus, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

¹⁶ Wo unto you, ye blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debter. ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold or the temple that hath sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ And whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoever sweareth by he gold that is upon it, he is a debter. ¹⁹ Ye fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whoso shall have sworn by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that hath dwelt therein. ²² And he that shall have sworn by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

⁸ As the washing of pots and cups: and many other things ye do that are like [them]; leaving the command of God; ye hold the tradition of men. ⁹ And he said unto them, Well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may confirm your own tradition! ¹⁰ For Moses said Honour thy father and mother: and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death. ¹¹ But ye say, If a man shall say to his father, or mother, [It is] Corban, that is, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightst be profited by me; ¹² Ye suffer him not to do ought for his father or mother: ¹³ Making the word of God of none effect through your foolish tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. ¹⁴ And when he had called the multitude again unto him, he said unto them, Hear me every one of you, and mind.

²⁹ But he willing to justifie him self, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

⁴² But wo unto you, Pharisees: for ye tithe mint and rue, and every herb, and pass over judgment, and the love of God.

⁴⁵ And in the audience of all the peoples he said unto the disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief seats at feasts; ⁴⁷ Devouring widows houses, for a shew making long prayers: the same shall receive greater judgement.

⁷ What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. ⁸ But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin [is] dead. ⁹ For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. ¹⁰ And the commandment which [was] to life, I found [to be] unto death.

⁶ But of these, who seemed to be somewhat: whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me; God accepteth no man's person: for they who seemed [to be somewhat], in conference added nothing to me.
