¹⁶ And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yes; have ye never read, Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid there things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes,

³ But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him,

⁴ And he answered and said, Have ye not read, that he which made [them] at the beginning, made them male and female?

³¹ But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

²⁵ And he answering said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

³⁹ But some of the Pharisees from among the multitude, said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ But he answered and said unto them, I say unto you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would cry out.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council together, and said, What do we? This man doth such miracles. ⁴⁸ And if we let him this alone, all men will believe on him; and the Romans will come and take away our place and nation.

¹⁶ Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them [is] more manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny [it]. ¹⁷ [But] that it spread no further among the people, we will therefore threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.
