¹⁹ And when he saw one fig-tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever, And presently the fig-tree withered away.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard.

⁹ But the ax is already laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruits, is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

⁶ He spake also this parable: one had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came and sought fruit there from, and found none. ⁷ And he said unto the dresser of his vineyard, behold, these three years, It is now that I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: Bring the Ax; cut it down, why cumbreth it the ground? ⁸ And he answering, said unto him, Lord, let it alone yet this year, till I shall dig about it, and cast a vessel of dung [upon it.] ⁹ Parhaps it may bear fruit; and if not, after that thou shalt cut it down.

⁴² Saying, If thou also hadst known in this day, what things concern thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come upon thee, that thine enemies will cast a trench, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ And will level thee even with the ground, and thy children; and they will not leave stone upon stone in this whole [city,] because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bear more fruit.

⁶ If any one abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather it, and cast [it] into the fire, and it is burned.

⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away:

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

⁷ For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: ⁸ But that which beareth thorns and briers, [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome; the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known [it], to return backward from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² It is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

¹² These are those who are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with them, feeding themselves without fear: clouds without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withered, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

¹¹ He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he that is righteous, let him do righteousness still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
