Romans Cross References - Whiston

1 PAUL a servant of Jesus Christ, the called apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 2 Which he had promised afore by his prophets, in the holy scriptures 3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was made to him of the seed of David, according to the flesh, 4 And fore ordained the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for his name: 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ. 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, the called saints: Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing, I make mention of you always in my prayers, 10 Making request if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end you may be established: 12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you, by the mutual faith both of you and me. 13 Now I suppose that you are not ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, but was hindered hitherto, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. 14 I am debter both to the Greeks, and to the barbarians, both to the wise, and to the unwise. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the Gospel among you that are at Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel: for it is the Power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek, 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of those men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. 19 Because that which may be known of God, is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] to them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkned. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools: 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God, into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature and use: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the women, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient: 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, maliciousness, fornication, covetousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Evil speakers, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventers of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but consent to them that do them.

5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God [is] witness. 6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensom, as the apostles of Christ. 7 But we were infants in the midst of you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God. 10 Ye are witnesses, and God, how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved our selves among you that believe:

1 Thessalonians 3:10

10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

1 Thessalonians 5:17

17 Pray without ceasing.

2 Timothy 1:3

3 I thank my God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day: 4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

1 John 5:9-12

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God, because he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the record in himself: he that believeth not the Son hath made himself a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life: and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son, hath life; he that hath not the Son of God, hath not life.

Acts 18:21

21 Bidding them farewel, and saying, I must by all means keep this feast-day that is coming, at Jerusalem. I will return onto you, if God will, [and] he sailed from Ephesus.

Acts 21:14

14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying one to another, The will of God be done.

Acts 27:1-28

1 And when it was determined that he should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners, unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus band. 2 And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we lanched, meaning to sail to the places of Asia, one Aristarchus a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. 3 But the next [day] we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave [him] liberty to go unto his friends, to refresh himself. 4 And when we had lanched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. 5 And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Lystra of Lycia. 6 And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein. 7 And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone: 8 And hardly passing [it,] came unto a place which is called the fair havens, nigh whereunto was the city Thalassa. 9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul comforted them, 10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. 11 Nevertheless, the centurion, believed the master and Pilot of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. 12 And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south-west, and north-west. 13 And when the south-wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained [their] purpose, loosing they sailed close by Crete. 14 But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called The North-east [wind.] 15 And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let [her] drive 16 And running under a certain island which is called Cauda, we had much work to come by the boat: 17 Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and fearing lest they should fallinto the quick-sands, struck sail, and so were driven. 18 And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next [day] they lightned the ship; 19 And the third [day] they cast out with their own hands the tackling of the ship. 20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved, was then taken away. 21 And after long abstinence, Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of life among you, but of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night, the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cesar: and lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. 26 Howbeit, we must be cast upon a certain island. 27 But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria about midnight, the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country: 28 And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, found it fifteen fathoms.

Romans 15:22-24

22 For which cause also I have been much hindred from coming to you. 23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; 24 Whensoever therefore I take my journey into Spain, I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with you.

Romans 15:30-32

30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; 31 And I may be de- livered from them that do not believe in Judea; and that my present for Jerusalem, may be accepted of the saints: 32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of Christ Jesus, and may with you be refreshed.

1 Corinthians 4:19

19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them who are puffed up, but the power.

Philippians 4:6

6 Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

1 Thessalonians 2:18

18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindred us.

1 Thessalonians 3:10-11

10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way unto you:

Philemon 1:22

22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

Hebrews 13:19

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

James 4:15

15 For that ye [ought] to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

Acts 8:15-19

15 Who when they were come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost. 16 For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. 17 Then laid they hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles hands, the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money. 19 Beseeching him, and saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I also lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

Acts 16:5

5 And so were the churches established, and increased in number daily.

Acts 19:6

6 And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost presently fell on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Romans 15:23

23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;

Romans 15:32

32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of Christ Jesus, and may with you be refreshed.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that when ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no one, by the Spirit of God, calleth Jesus accursed; and no one can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but the same God, who worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit, is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit, the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit: to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another the interpretation of tongues; to another kinds of tongues; 11 But all these worketh that one and the self same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

2 Corinthians 1:21

21 Now he who confirmeth us with you, in Christ, and hath anointed us, [is] God:

4 For if he that cometh, preacheth another Jesus whom we have not preached, or ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel which ye have not accepted, you would fairly suffer him.

Galatians 3:2-5

2 This only would I learn of you, received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of Faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if [it be] yet in vain. 5 He therefore that ministreth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, is it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Ephesians 4:8-12

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led a captivity captive, [and] gave gifts unto men. 9 Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended, is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. 11 And he hath given some, apostles: and some, prophets: and some, evangelists: and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Philippians 1:8

8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:26

26 For he longed to see you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

Philippians 4:1

1 Therefore, my brethren, dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, [my] dearly beloved.

1 Thessalonians 3:2

2 And sent Timothy our brother, and our fellow-worker with God in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;

3 But God is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep [you] from evil.

Hebrews 13:9

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines: for [it is] a good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with meats, which have not profited them that walk therein.

1 Peter 5:10

10 But the God of all Grace, who hath called you unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, will make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you].

1 Peter 5:12

12 By Silvanus a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

2 Peter 1:12

12 Wherefore I will be ready to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

2 Peter 3:17-18

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know it before, beware, lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: to him [be] glory, both now and for ever. Amen.

23 Who when he came also and had seen the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted all, that with purpose of heart they would continue with the Lord.

Romans 15:24

24 Whensoever therefore I take my journey into Spain, I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with you.

2 Corinthians 2:1-3

1 And I determined this with my self, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. 2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but he who is made sorry by me? 3 And I wrote this same thing onto you, lest when I came I should have sorrow upon sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is that of you all.

2 Corinthians 7:4-7

4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great [is] my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in our manifold tribulation. 5 For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without fightings, within fears. 6 Nevertheless, God that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus: 7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

2 Corinthians 7:13

13 Therefore we were comforted. In our comfort we exceedingly the more joyed for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Ephesians 4:5

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

1 Thessalonians 2:17-20

17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time, in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire. 18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindred us. 19 For what [is] our hope, or joy, or cron of rejoicing? [are] not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus, at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and joy.

1 Thessalonians 3:7-10

7 Therefore, brethren, we are comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: 8 For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. 9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoiced for your sakes before our God, 10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

2 Timothy 1:4

4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy:

3 John 1:3-4

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Jude 1:3

3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you, that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

36 He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth may rejoyce together.

24 Verily verily I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat falling into the ground die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Acts 16:6-7

6 And they passed through Phrygia, and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to speak the word of God to any in Asia. 7 But when they were in Mysia, they desired to go to Bithynia: but the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not.

Acts 21:19

19 And when he had saluted [them], he declared particularly how God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

Romans 11:25

25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery (lest ye should be wise in your own conceits) that blindness in part is hapned to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Romans 15:18-20

18 For I will not dare to say any of those things, which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 19 Through his mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem unto Illyricum and round about, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel where Christ was not named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:

Romans 15:22-28

22 For which cause also I have been much hindred from coming to you. 23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; 24 Whensoever therefore I take my journey into Spain, I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with you. 25 But now I go unto Jerusalem, to minister unto the saints. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia, to make a certain contribution for the poor saints who are at Jerusalem, 27 And their debters they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. 28 When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.

1 Corinthians 10:1

1 For, I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

1 Corinthians 12:1

1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Corinthians 1:8

8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

2 Corinthians 1:15-16

15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that you might have a second benefit: 16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judea.

2 Corinthians 2:14

14 Now thanks [be] unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the favour of his knowledge by us in every place.

2 Corinthians 10:13-16

13 But we will not boast of things without [our] measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not our selves too far, as though we reached not unto you; for we are come as far as to you also, in the gospel of Christ: 15 Not boasting of things without the measure of other mens labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the places beyond you, not to boast in another man's line, of things made ready to our hand.

Philippians 4:17

17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

1 Thessalonians 1:8-10

8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and in Achaia, but in every place our faith to God-ward is spread abroad, so that we need not to speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us, what manner of entring in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God, 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivereth us from the wrath that is coming.

1 Thessalonians 2:13-14

13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [it] not [as] the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God, which in Judea are in Christ Jesus: for ye have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they of the Jews:

1 Thessalonians 4:13

13 But we would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope.

Romans 13:8

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another, hath fulfilled the law.

1 Corinthians 1:19-22

19 It is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where [is] the wise? where the scribe? where the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom:

1 Corinthians 2:13

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

1 Corinthians 3:18

18 Let no man deceive himself with vain words. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

1 Corinthians 9:16-23

16 For if I should preach the gospel, I have no thanks for it: for necessity is laid upon me; For, wo is unto me, if I preach not the gospel. 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation is committed unto me. 18 What is my reward then? verily that when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made my self servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as not being my self under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save all men. 23 And I do all things for the gospels sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [you].

1 Corinthians 14:23-24

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness: but unto us who are saved, it is the power of God. 22 For the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Gentiles foolishness; 24 But unto them who are called both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 2:2

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:4

4 And my speech, and my preaching [was] not with enticing words of wisdom, but in the revelation of the Spirit, and of power:

1 Corinthians 9:12

12 If others be partakers of power over you, [are] not we rather? Nevertheless, we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:18

18 What is my reward then? verily that when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

1 Corinthians 14:24-25

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: 25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; [and] falling down on [his] face, he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

1 Corinthians 15:2

2 By which also ye are saved. Ye ought to keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

2 Corinthians 2:12

12 Furthermore when I came to Troas by the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

2 Corinthians 2:14-16

14 Now thanks [be] unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the favour of his knowledge by us in every place. 15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. 16 To the one the savour of death unto death; and to the other, the savour of life unto life: and who [is] sufficient for these things?

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye have already heard in the Word of the truth of the gospel: 6 Which is come unto you, as [it is] in all the world, and bringeth forth fruit, and increaseth, as also in you, since the day ye heard [it], and have acknowledged the grace of God in truth.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-6

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord; having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

1 Thessalonians 2:13

13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [it] not [as] the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and thoughts the mean while accusing, or else excusing one another, 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel. 17 But if thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God; 18 And knowest [his] will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19 And art confident that thou thy self art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, 20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law. 21 Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thy self? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22 Thou that sayst a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

Acts 17:23-30

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24 God that made the world, and all things therein, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands: 25 Neither is worshipped with mens hands, as though he was in need, for he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And he made of one blood, every nation of man, to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times appointed, according to the bound of their habitation: 27 Especially that they should seek what the deity is, if haply they might feel after it, or find it, though it [be] not far from every one of us: 28 For in it we live, and move, and are; every day; as certain also of your own poets have said; For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Deity is like either to gold, or silver, or stone, or to what is graven by art, or man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God overlooked; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

1 Corinthians 1:19-21

19 It is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where [is] the wise? where the scribe? where the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For after that, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.
