⁵ Out from the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder, while in front of it seven flaming lamps were burning; they were the seven spirits of God.

¹¹ I am baptizing you in water to picture your repentance. But He that is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not fit to carry His shoes. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire;

³ And they saw tongues like flames of fire separating and resting on their heads, one to each of them,

⁴ There are varieties of gifts, but the Spirit is the same in all; ⁵ there are varieties of service, but the Lord to be served is the same; ⁶ there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who does all things by putting energy in us all. ⁷ To each of us is given a special spiritual illumination for the common good. ⁸ To one, wise speech is given by the Spirit; to another, by the same Spirit, intelligent speech is given; ⁹ to another, through union with the same Spirit, faith; to another, by one and the same Spirit, power to cure the sick; ¹⁰ to another, power for working wonders; to another, prophetic insight; to another, the power to discriminate between the true Spirit and false spirits; to another, various ecstatic utterances; and to another, the power to explain them. ¹¹ But the one and same Spirit accomplishes all these achievements, and apportions power to each of us as He chooses.

¹⁸ For you have not come to a blazing fire that can be touched, to gloom and darkness, storm ¹⁹ and trumpet-blast, and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that not a word more should be added; ²⁰ for they did not try to bear the order, "Even if a wild animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death," ²¹ and so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I am terrified and terror-stricken!" ²² But you have come to Mount Zion, even to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless hosts of angels, ²³ to the festal gathering and assembly of God's firstborn sons enrolled as citizens in heaven, to a Judge who is the God of all, to the spirits of upright men who have attained perfection, ²⁴ to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks a better message than even Abel's did. ²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse to listen to Him who is speaking to you. For if they did not escape, because they refused to listen to him who warned them here on earth, how much less can we, if we reject Him who is from heaven? ²⁶ Then His voice shook the earth, ²⁷ but now His promise is, "Once more I will make not only the earth but heaven itself tremble." Now that expression, "Once more," signifies the final removal of the things that can be shaken, to let remain the things that cannot be shaken. ²⁸ Let us, therefore, be thankful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and in this way continue to serve God acceptably in reverence and fear; ²⁹ for our God, indeed, is a consuming fire.

⁴ John to the seven churches in Asia: spiritual blessing and peace to you from Him who is and was and is to come, and from the seven spirits that are before His throne,

¹ "To the messenger of the church at Sardis write: 'The One who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars speaks as follows: "I know what you are doing; you have the reputation of being alive, but in reality you are dead.

⁶ Then I saw, midway between the throne and the four living creatures, standing among the elders, a Lamb that looked as though He had been slaughtered. He had seven horns and seven eyes; the latter are the seven spirits of God which are sent on duty to every portion of the earth.

⁵ Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and flung it to the earth, and there followed peals of thunder with its rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

¹⁹ Then the doors of God's temple in heaven were thrown open, and inside the temple was seen the chest containing God's covenant, and there followed flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and heavy hail.

¹⁷ Then the seventh angel emptied his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the sanctuary from the throne, saying, "It is done." ¹⁸ Then there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder; then there was a great earthquake, an earthquake so great that none like it had ever been since man first existed on the earth.
