³ forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods, which God created for reception with thanksgiving by those who believe and have full knowledge of the truth.

⁹ Let a widow be enrolled, when she has become not less than sixty years old, having been a wife of one man,

²⁴ now a servant of the Lord must not engage in strife, but should be gentle towards all, apt in teaching, patient of wrong,

⁶ if anyone is blameless, a husband of one wife, having believing children not in accusation of rioting, or unruly. ⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain; ⁸ but hospitable, a lover of good, sober-minded, righteous, pious, temperate; ⁹ holding fast the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in the healthful doctrine, and to convict those who contradict.

² that aged men be temperate, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience;

¹⁴ for we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm to the end:

² Do not forget to show love for strangers; for thereby some entertained angels unawares.

⁷ But the end of all things has drawn near; be ye, therefore, of sound mind, and be sober unto prayers;

⁹ being hospitable to one another, without murmuring;

⁸ Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, is going about, seeking whom he may devour;
