¹⁷ and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, (and He added to these the name "Boanerges," that is, "sons of thunder");

¹⁹ And going on a little further, He saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, and those in the ship mending the nets. ²⁰ And straightway He called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the boat, with the hired servants, they went away after Him.

²⁰ Peter, turning about, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also at the Supper leaned back on Jesus' breast, and said, "Lord, who is he that betrays Thee?" ²¹ Peter therefore, seeing him, says to Jesus, "Lord, and what will this man do?" ²² Jesus saith to him, "If I wish him to remain till I come, what is it to you? follow Me." ²³ This saying, therefore, went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die; yet Jesus did not say to him, that he should not die, but, "If I wish him to remain till I come, what is it to you?" ²⁴ This is the disciple who testifies concerning these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. ²⁵ And there are also many other things which Jesus did; which, indeed, were they written one by one, I suppose that not even the world itself would contain the books that would be written.

¹² For the word of God is living, and effectual, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to a dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
