³³ the son of Amminadab, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, ³⁴ the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

⁸ And He gave him a covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

⁷ neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children; but, "In Isaac shall your seed be called." ⁸ That is, the children of the flesh are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed. ⁹ For the word of the promise is this: "At this season I will come, and Sarah shall have a son." ¹⁰ And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, even by our father Isaac ¹¹ (for, the children being not yet born, nor having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of Him Who calleth), ¹² it was said to her, "The elder shall serve the younger." ¹³ Even as it has been written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord hath sprung out of Judah, respecting which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priests.

¹¹ By faith Sarah herself also received power to conceive seed, even when past the age of child-bearing, since she accounted Him faithful, Who promised.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when tried, has offered up Isaac; yea, he who gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten son, ¹⁸ to whom it was said, "In Isaac shall your seed be called;"
