¹² Rejoice, and exult; because great is your reward in Heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

¹ "Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen by them, otherwise at least ye have no reward with your Father Who is in Heaven. ² When, therefore, you are doing alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say to you, they receive their reward.

⁴ that your alms may be in secret; and your Father, Who seeth in secret, will recompense you. ⁵ "And, when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: verily I say to you, they have their reward.

¹⁶ "And, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance; for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily I say to you, they receive their reward.

⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, verily I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."

²⁷ For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then will He render to each one according to his work.

³⁴ And, when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen, taking his servants, one, indeed, they beat; and one they killed; and one they stoned. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first; and they treated them likewise. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' ³⁸ But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance!'

³¹ So then ye testify to yourselves that ye are sons of those who killed the prophets; ³² and fill ye up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents! broods of vipers! How can ye escape the judgment of Hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood poured out upon the earth, from the blood of Abel, the righteous, unto the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! that kills the prophets, and stones those sent to her! how often did I wish to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

²³ "Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy; for, behold, your reward is great in Heaven; for, after the same manner, were their fathers wont to do to the prophets.

³⁵ "But love your enemies; and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and ye will be sons of the Most High; because He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

⁴⁷ "Woe to you! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Consequently, ye are witnesses, and consent to the works of your fathers; because they, indeed, killed them, and ye build their tombs. ⁴⁹ On this account also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them will they slay, and some will they persecute; ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the founding of the world, may be required of this generation— ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah who perished between the altar and the house—yea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.'

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those sent to her; how often I wished to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is abandoned to you!

⁴¹ They, therefore, were going from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they were accounted worthy to suffer dishonor in behalf of The Name.

⁵¹ Ye stiffnecked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears! ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who declared beforehand concerning the coming of the Righteous One—of Whom just now ye became the betrayers and murderers;

²⁵ And about midnight Paul and Silas, while engaged in prayer, were singing praise to God; and the prisoners were listening to them.

³ And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations; knowing that tribulation works out patience;

⁸ And he that plants and he that waters are one; but each shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor.

¹⁷ For our momentary light tribulation is working out for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory;

¹⁷ But even if I am offered as a libation upon the sacrifice and ministry of your faith, I rejoice, and I rejoice with you all;

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings in your behalf, and fill up in turn the deficiencies of the tribulations of Christ in my flesh for the sake of His body, which is the assembly;

²⁴ knowing that from the Lord ye shall receive the recompense of the inheritance: ye are doing service to the Lord, Christ.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and pleased not God, and are contrary to all men;

⁶ And, apart from faith, it is impossible to please Him; for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He becomes a rewarder to those who seek after Him.

²⁶ regarding the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking away to the recompense.

² Consider it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall in with manifold temptations;

¹³ but, in so far as ye share in Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of His glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.
