¹⁸ And if the righteous be saved with difficulty, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

²² And unless those days be shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened. ²³ Then if any shall say to you, Behold here is the Messiah, or there; believe it not: ²⁴ for there shall rise up false Christs, and false prophets, who shall shew great signs and prodigies, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

²⁰ And if the Lord did not shorten those days, none could escape: but for the sake of the elect, whom He hath chosen, He hath shortened those days. ²¹ And then if any shall say to you, Behold, here is the Christ, or, Behold, He is there, believe it not: ²² for there shall rise up false Christs, and false prophets, who shall work signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, even the elect.

¹ Then drew near unto Him all the publicans and other notorious sinners, to hear Him.

³¹ for if they do these things to the green wood, what shall be done to the dry?

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and telling them that through many afflictions we must enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁴ Fear not, Paul, thou must be brought before Cesar, and behold God hath given thee all that are sailing with thee.

³¹ Paul said to the centurion, and to the soldiers, Unless these men stay in the ship ye cannot be saved.

⁴² And the counsel of the soldiers was to kill the prisoners, least any of them should swim out and escape. ⁴³ But the centurion, desirous to save Paul, hindered them from their purpose, and ordered those that could swim to throw themselves out first, and get off to land: ⁴⁴ and the rest, some on planks, and others on some other things out of the ship. And so it came to pass that they all got safe to land.

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who withhold the truth in unrighteousness;

⁶ For when we were yet without strength, Christ died in due season for the ungodly.

⁸ But God recommendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

¹² Wherefore let him, that thinks he standeth, take heed least he fall.

¹ Let us therefore fear least a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of us should seem to fall short of it:

³⁸ and the just shall live by faith, but if any draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ But we are not of those who withdraw to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; for your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

⁵ (but preserved Noah an eighth person, a preacher of righteousness,) bringing a deluge upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and reducing the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha to ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those that should afterwards be impious;

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, that now are, by the same Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire on the day of judgement and destruction of ungodly men.

¹⁵ to pass judgement upon all, and to convict all the ungodly among them of all their wicked works, which they have impiously committed, and of all the hard things which impious sinners have spoken against Him.
