¹ Now the Spirit expressly saith, that in latter times some shall apostatize from the faith, attending to seducing spirits, ² and doctrines of demons founded in the hypocrisy of liars, who are seared in their own conscience, forbidding to marry, ³ and enjoining abstinence from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by those that believe and know the truth. ⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving: ⁵ for it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer. ⁶ If thou lay these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, as one brought up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, to which thou hast attained. ⁷ But profane and groundless fables reject, and exercise thyself unto godliness. ⁸ For bodily exercise profiteth little, but piety is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come: ⁹ this is a certain truth and worthy of all acceptance. ¹⁰ For to this end we both labour and suffer reproach, because we have hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful. ¹¹ These things declare and teach. ¹² Let no one have cause to despise thy youth; but he thou an example to believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. ¹³ Till I come attend to reading, to exhortation, and teaching. ¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. ¹⁵ Meditate on these things, be wholly in them, that thy proficiency may be manifest in all. ¹⁶ Take heed to thyself, and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this, thou wilt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

⁵ for many shall come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many. ⁶ And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, but be not troubled; for all these must indeed come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷ For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in several places: ⁸ all which are but the beginning of sorrows. ⁹ Then shall they afflict you, and kill you; and ye shall be hated by all nations for my name: ¹⁰ and then will many take offense, and betray one another, and hate one another: and many false prophets will rise up and deceive many: ¹¹ and because iniquity shall abound, ¹² the love of many will grow cold.

¹³ But when the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He will not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that will He speak, and will shew you things to come.

² and as they were ministring to the Lord, and fasting, the holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them.

¹⁸ But some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him; and some said, What would this babler say? and others, He seemeth to be a proclaimer of foreign deities: because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

²⁵ And so disagreeing one with another they separated, when Paul had said one word, to wit, that the holy Spirit spake rightly by Esaias the prophet to our fathers,

⁵ For though there be some that are called Gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (as there are among the heathen gods many, ⁶ and lords many,) yet to us there is but one God the Father, from whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.

²⁰ No: but this I say, that what the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.

¹¹ but all these worketh that one and the same Spirit distributing to every one in particular as He sees fit.

³ But I fear least as the serpent seduced Eve by his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the purity that is in Christ.

¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transformed into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder: for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is therefore no great thing, if his ministers also be transformed into ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

¹⁸ Let no one deprive you of your reward by an affected humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into what he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his carnal mind;

³ Let not any one deceive you by any means; for it shall not come till there come an apostasy first, and the man of sin be revealed, ⁴ the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or the object of worship; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. ⁵ Do ye not remember, that when I was with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And ye know what now hindereth him from being revealed in his own time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already working, only there is one that hindreth till he be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then the wicked one shall be detected, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth, and abolish by the brightness of his coming: ⁹ who comes, through the efficacy of Satan, with all kind of lying power, and signs, ¹⁰ and wonders, and with all iniquitous fraud, among those that shall perish; because they received not the love of the truth, by which they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God will send upon them the efficacy of error, so that they shall themselves believe the lie: ¹² that they may all be condemned, who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in iniquity.

¹ But this know, that in the last days there will be difficult times; ² for men will be selfish, covetous, arrogant, proud, blasphemers, undutiful to parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, perfidious, false accusers, intemperate, savage, enemies to the good, traitors, ⁴ headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, ⁵ having a form of godliness, but strangers to the power of it: from such turn away. ⁶ For of these are they who insinuate themselves into families, and captivate weak women, that are laden with sins, ⁷ and led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ And as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth; being men of corrupt minds, and of no judgement in the faith. ⁹ But they shall not proceed far: for their folly shall be evident to all, as theirs also was.

¹³ But wicked men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

⁴ and turn away their attention from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

²⁰ who was indeed appointed before the foundation of the world, but manifested in these last times, for your sakes,

¹ But there were indeed false prophets among the people of old, as there will be also among you false teachers, who will privately introduce pernicious heresies, denying even the Lord that bought them, and bringing upon themselves swift destruction,

³ that there will come in the last days scoffers,

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that an antichrist will come, there are even now many antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time.

⁶ We are of God: he, that knoweth God, heareth us; but he, who is not of God, heareth not us. By this we know the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

⁴ For there have crept in some men, who have been of old described as under this condemnation, impious people, that turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and deny God the only Lord, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ that in the latter days there will be scoffers, walking according to their own impious lusts.

⁷ Let him, that hath an ear, hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

² And he opened the bottomless pit: and there came up smoke out of the pit as the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. ³ And out of the smoke there came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, even as the scorpions of the earth have power. ⁴ And order was given them, not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree; but only the men, who had not the seal of God on their foreheads. ⁵ And to them was given power, not to kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it striketh a man. ⁶ And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it: and they shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. ⁷ And the resemblance of the locusts was like horses prepared for war; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces as the faces of men. ⁸ And they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. ⁹ And they had breast-plates like breast-plates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, with many horses running to battle. ¹⁰ And they had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. ¹¹ And they had a king over them, the angel of the bottomless pit; whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek tongue Apollyon.

²⁰ And the rest of the men, who were not killed by these plagues, yet repented not of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk:

¹⁴ by the signs which it was given him to do in the presence of the beast, telling the inhabitants of the earth to make an image to the beast, that had received the wound of the sword, and yet lived.

¹⁴ for they are the spirits of demons, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to bring them together to the battle of that great day of God almighty.

² And he cried with vehemence, and with a loud voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, a den of impure spirits, and a cage for every unclean and hateful bird.

²³ And the light of a candle shall be seen in thee no more; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride shall be heard no more in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth, and by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet, who had wrought signs before him, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast, and those who worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.

² And he seized the dragon, that old serpent, who is the devil and satan, and bound him a thousand years, ³ and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he might deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years be finished: and then he must be loosed for a little time.

⁸ Satan shall be loosed from his confinement, and shall go forth to deceive the nations, that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to war, whose number is as the sand of the sea.

¹⁰ And the devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

¹⁵ And beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

²⁴ for there shall rise up false Christs, and false prophets, who shall shew great signs and prodigies, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

³⁰ And from among yourselves shall men arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them.

²⁸ And as they were not careful to acknowledge God, God gave them up to an undiscerning mind to do things that were not fit to be done:

¹⁸ and avoid them; for such people serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by a soothing address and good words deceive the hearts of the innocent.

¹⁴ That we may be no longer children fluctuating and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the artful insinuations of men, and their crafty methods of deceiving;

¹⁹ who, being past feeling, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, to commit all uncleanness with greediness.

¹ But there were indeed false prophets among the people of old, as there will be also among you false teachers, who will privately introduce pernicious heresies, denying even the Lord that bought them, and bringing upon themselves swift destruction, ² And many will follow their pernicious tenets, on whose account the way of truth will be reproached: ³ and by artful speeches they will make sale of you for gain. Whose judgement is long since hastening, and their destruction doth not slumber.

¹⁹ And having ordered the multitudes to sit down upon the grass, and taken the five loaves and the two fishes, He looked up to heaven and blessed them; and He brake the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the people: and they did all eat, and were satisfied;

³⁶ and taking the seven loaves and the fishes, when He had given thanks, He brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

³⁰ And as He sat at table with them, He took bread and blessed it, and then brake it and gave to them.

²³ though there came other vessels from Tiberias, near the place where they had eaten bread after the Lord had given thanks: when therefore the people saw that Jesus was not there,

³¹ Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples. ³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

¹³ And there was a voice which said to him, Rise, Peter, kill and eat. ¹⁴ But Peter said, By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing polluted or unclean. ¹⁵ And the voice said to him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, do not thou account polluted.

³⁵ And having spoken thus, he took bread and gave thanks to God in presence of them all, and when he had broken it he began to eat.

³ Let not him, that eateth, despise him that eateth not; and let not him, that eateth not, censure him that eateth: for God hath received him.

⁶ He that regardeth a day regardeth it to the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, in deference to the Lord he doth not regard it. So he, that eateth all sorts of food, eateth to the Lord; for he giveth God thanks for it; and he that eateth not of some kinds of food, in deference to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks for the rest.

¹⁷ but in righteousness and peace, and joy in the holy Ghost: for he,

¹³ meats are for the belly, and the belly for meats, but God will destroy both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

²⁸ Though, if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned: such however will probably have more trouble in life: but I spare you.

³⁶ But if any one think that he acts unbecomingly towards his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and that it ought to be so, let him do what he will; he doth not sin: let them marry. ³⁷ But he, that is stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath determined in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doth well. ³⁸ So that he, who giveth her in marriage, doth well; but he, that giveth her not in marriage, doth better. ³⁹ The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth: but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord:

⁸ But meat does not recommend us to God; for neither, if we eat, are we the better; nor the worse, if we eat not.

³⁰ And if I partake with thankfulness, why am I blamed for that, for which I give thanks? ³¹ Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

¹⁶ Let no one therefore judge you on account of meat, or drink, or in respect of a feast, or a new-moon, or sabbaths;

²⁰ If therefore ye be dead with Christ from the elements of the world; why, as if living in the world, are ye subject to ceremonial ordinances, ²¹ (such as "touch not, taste not, ²² handle not," which all tend to corruption in the using,) according to the commandments and doctrines of men? ²³ which things indeed have a pretence to wisdom in voluntary worship, and humiliation, and bodily penance, as having no regard to the satisfying of the flesh.

¹⁷ And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to our God and Father by Him.

¹³ But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord; because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth: ¹⁴ to which He hath called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ who is willing that all men should be saved, and therefore come to the knowledge of the truth.

⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:

⁴ Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed is not defiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

⁹ be not then carried about by various and strange doctrines; for it is good that the heart be established by grace, and not in meats, in which those that have been most exact, have not profited by them.

⁷ And I heard a voice saying to me, Rise, Peter, kill and eat. ⁸ But I said, By no means, Lord: for nothing polluted or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth. ⁹ And the voice answered me a second time from heaven, What God hath cleansed do not thou call polluted.

²⁰ that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood. ²¹ For Moses hath had from ancient times those that preach him in every city, and is still read in the synagogues every sabbath-day.

²⁹ That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from fornication: from which ye will do well to keep yourselves. Farewel.

²⁵ But as to the believing Gentiles, we have written and determined, that they need observe no such thing; only to keep themselves from what is offered to idols, and from blood, and from any thing strangled, and from fornication.

¹⁴ I know and have been taught by the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: only to him that thinketh any thing unclean, to him it is unclean.

²⁰ Do not for the sake of meat destroy thy brother who is the work of God: all things indeed are pure; but to the man that eateth with offence it is evil.

²³ If all things be lawful for me, yet all things are not expedient: all things may be lawful for me, but all things do not edify.

²⁵ Eat then whatever is sold in the shambles, asking no questions for conscience sake:

³ and enjoining abstinence from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by those that believe and know the truth. ⁴ And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, that man shall not live by bread only, but on every word of God.

⁴¹ and behold all things are clean to you.

¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband: else were your children unclean; but they are holy.

¹⁵ To the pure indeed all things are pure; but to the polluted and unbelieving nothing is pure; even their mind and conscience is polluted.

⁵² Therefore every teacher, who has been thus instructed in the knowledge of the kingdom of heaven, is like a master of a family, who brings forth out of his store things new and old.

¹⁶ Jesus answered them and said, The doctrine that I teach is not mine, but his that sent me. ¹⁷ If any man desire to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

³¹ Watch therefore, remembering that for the space of three years I ceased not by night and by day to warn every one with tears.

³⁵ I have shewed you in all things, that by labouring thus ye ought to support the infirm; and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, who said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁵ However, I have written to you, brethren, somewhat the more freely, in reminding you of your duty; because of the favor bestowed upon me by God,

¹ Let a man so account of us, as the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Now it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

¹⁷ For this end have I sent unto you Timothy, who is my beloved son and faithful in the Lord, who will bring to your remembrance my ways in Christ, how I teach every where in every church.

⁶ Who hath also fitted us to be ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life.

⁴ but in every thing approving ourselves as the ministers of God; by much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in straits,

¹⁵ but holding the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him, who is the head, even Christ: ¹⁶ from whom the whole body being fitly joined together and compacted by the aid of every joint, according to the operation proportioned to every part, maketh an increase to the edification of itself in love.

²¹ But that ye also may know my affairs, and what I am doing here, Tychicus a beloved brother, and a faithful minister in the Lord, shall make all known to you: whom I have sent to you,

¹⁶ But in what we have attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

¹⁹ and not adhering to the head, from which all the body, being supplied and held together as by joints and bands, increaseth with the increase of God.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another by psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude singing in your hearts to the Lord.

⁷ All things concerning me will Tychicus make known to you, who is a beloved brother, and faithful minister, and fellow-servant in the Lord:

² and sent Timothy our brother, and a minister of God, and our fellow-labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you concerning your faith;

¹⁰ parricides, murderers, whoremongers, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, false-swearers, and if there be any thing else contrary to that sound doctrine,

¹⁶ Take heed to thyself, and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this, thou wilt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

³ These things teach and exhort. If any one teach otherwise, and adhere not to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the doctrine which is according to godliness;

⁶ for which cause I remind thee to stir up the gift of God which is in thee through the imposition of my hands.

¹⁴ These things remind them of, charging them before the Lord not to contend about words, which is profitable for nothing, and tends to the subversion of the hearers. ¹⁵ Endeavour to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

¹⁰ But thou art well acquainted with my doctrine, conduct, purpose, faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, persecutions,

¹⁴ But continue thou in the things which thou hast learnt, and been assured of, knowing from whom thou hast learned them; ¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus: for all scripture is by inspiration from God, ¹⁶ and is profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; ¹⁷ that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly fitted for every good work.

³ For the time will come, when they will not bear sound doctrine; but having itching ears, will heap up to themselves teachers after their own hearts:

¹ But do thou speak the things which become sound doctrine:

⁷ in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, with uncorruptness in teaching, gravity, sound doctrine that cannot be condemned; ⁸ that he who opposeth it may be ashamed, having no evil to say of you. ⁹ Exhort servants to submit to their masters, to be obsequious in all things, ¹⁰ not answering frowardly, not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

² and envies, and all evil-speakings, as new-born babes desire that rational milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby:

¹² Wherefore I will not neglect to put you always in mind of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the present truth. ¹³ And I think it my duty, while I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by way of remembrance: ¹⁴ knowing that I must soon lay down this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. ¹⁵ And I will endeavour that after my departure also ye may always be able to call these things to remembrance.

¹ This second epistle, my beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your sincere mind in remembrance, ² that ye may be mindful of the words formerly spoken by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: knowing this first,

⁹ Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: but he, that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, hath both the Father and the Son.

⁵ But I would remind you of this, which ye know already, that though the Lord saved the people out of the land of Egypt, yet He afterwards destroyed those that believed not:

¹⁶ And on this account do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence both towards God and towards men.

⁴ nor attend to fables and endless genealogies, which occasion debates, rather than pious edification in the faith:

¹⁰ but in good works, as becometh women professing godliness.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

¹¹ But do thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, piety, fidelity, love, patience, meekness.

²⁰ O Timothy, keep that with which thou art entrusted, avoiding profane empty babblings, and the oppositions of science falsely so called:

¹⁶ But avoid prophane empty harangues; for they will proceed to more impiety,

²³ but foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they produce quarrels; for the servant of the Lord ought not to wrangle,

¹² And indeed all, that are desirous to live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.

¹⁴ not attending to Jewish fables, and the precepts of men who turn away from the truth.

¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness, and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and righteously, and piously in this present world;

⁹ But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and strifes and contentions about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain:

¹⁴ but firm food is for persons come to age, who by habit have their senses exercised to a discernment both of good and evil.

⁵ And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; ⁶ and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety; ⁷ and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity. ⁸ For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be satisfied. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peace-makers; for they shall be called the children of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake: ¹² rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great will be your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets, that were before you.

³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these shall be superadded unto you.

²⁹ yea and every one who hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, shall receive an hundred-fold, and shall inherit eternal life.

¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour thy father and thy mother. ²⁰ And he answered and said unto Him, Master, all these have I kept from my youth.

³⁰ or lands for my sake and the gospel's, but he shall receive an hundred-fold: now in this time indeed, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands with persecutions; but in the world to come life everlasting.

³¹ Seek ye therefore the kingdom of God, and all these shall be super-added unto you. ³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's pleasure to give you the kingdom.

²⁸ And we know that all things co-operate for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to his purpose;

²² whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or future, all are yours;

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

⁸ This is a word which ought to believed and observed, and concerning these things I would have thee stedfastly affirm, that they who have believed in God be careful to excel in good works: for these things are good and profitable to men.

⁹ Which figure remains to the present time, wherein gifts and sacrifices are offered, that cannot perfect the worshipper as to his conscience, ¹⁰ relating only to meats and drinks, and different washings, and such carnal ordinances as were required till the time of reformation.

³ as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who hath called us by that glory and virtue, ⁴ by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

²⁵ And this is the promise which He hath promised us, even eternal life.

¹² Him, that overcometh, I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, (the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God,) and my own new name.

²¹ To him that overcometh I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I also have overcome, and am set down with my Father on his throne.

¹⁵ It is a truth highly to be believed, and worthy to be received by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners:---of whom I am one of the chief.

⁴³ He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will own Him; for He said, I am the Son of God.

²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.

¹⁵ that whosoever believeth on Him may not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him might not perish, but have everlasting life: ¹⁷ for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved by Him.

⁴² and said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of what thou hast spoken; for we ourselves have heard Him, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

²⁴ Verily, verily I say unto you, he, that heareth my word, and believeth in Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come under condemnation; but is passed from death to life.

¹² And again Esaias saith, "There shall be a root of Jesse, and one that shall rise to rule over the Gentiles: in Him shall the Gentiles trust." ¹³ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope through the power of the holy Spirit.

⁹ For it seems to me that God hath as it were exhibited us the apostles last upon the stage as appointed to death; for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ: we are weak, but ye are strong: ye are honoured, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present time we suffer both hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling: ¹² and we labour working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless: when persecuted, we bear it: when defamed, we intreat. ¹³ We are made as the filth of the world, and the refuse of all things to this day.

⁸ being afflicted on every side, but not oppressed; perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken; ¹⁰ cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be manifested in our body.

³ We give no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: ⁴ but in every thing approving ourselves as the ministers of God; by much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in straits, ⁵ in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings; ⁶ by purity, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the holy Spirit, ⁷ by love unfeigned, by the word of truth, by the power of God, with the armour of righteousness on the right and on the left; through honor and dishonor, ⁸ through evil report and good report; ⁹ as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, but not put to death; ¹⁰ as sorrowing, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.

²³ so am I: are they ministers of Christ? (if I may speak as a fool) I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes far exceeding, in prisons more frequently, and often even in deaths. ²⁴ From the Jews I have five times received forty stripes save one. ²⁵ Thrice I have been beaten with rods, once I was stoned, thrice I have been shipwrecked, and was a night and a day on the deep: ²⁶ in journies often, in perils from rivers, in perils from robbers, in perils from my own nation, in perils from the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the desert, in perils on the sea, in perils among false brethren: ²⁷ in labor and toil, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness: and beside these outward troubles,

⁶ who gave himself a ransom for all, a testimony to be published in due time,

¹⁵ But if I should be retarded, that thou mayst know how thou oughtest to behave in the house of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

¹⁷ Charge them, that are rich in this world, not to be high-minded nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly affords us all things for enjoyment: charge them to do good,

⁹ for whose sake I suffer trouble even unto bonds, as if I were a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound. ¹⁰ Therefore I submit to every thing for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is by Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁰ But thou art well acquainted with my doctrine, conduct, purpose, faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, persecutions, ¹¹ sufferings, which befel me at Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and how the Lord delivered me out of them all. ¹² And indeed all, that are desirous to live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he looked to the recompence of reward.

¹³ Let us then go out unto Him without the camp, bearing his reproach: for we have here no continuing city,

²¹ who through Him trust in God that raised Him from the dead, and gave Him glory, that your faith and hope might be fixed in God.

¹⁴ If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: and though as to them He is blasphemed, yet as to you He is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as a malefactor, or as an intermeddler with other people's affairs.

² And He is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁴ And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

¹⁰ He, that believeth on the Son of God, hath the witness in himself: he, that believeth not God, hath in effect made Him a liar, because he believed not the testimony which God hath testified of his Son. ¹¹ And the testimony is this, that God hath given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that hath the Son hath life: he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. ¹³ These things have I written to you, who believe on the name of the son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may the more firmly believe on the name of the Son of God.

⁷ These things give in charge, that they may be blameless.

² and let not those who have believing masters, despise them, because they are brethren; but serve them more readily, because they are faithful and beloved by God, partakers of his grace.

² preach the word, be instant both in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and instruction.

¹⁵ These things speak, and exhort; and reprove offenders with all authority: that none may despise thee.

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I tell you, that their angels in heaven do continually appear in the presence of my father, who is in heaven:

¹ Be ye then imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.

¹⁰ If Timothy should come, see that he be with you without fear: for he is employed in the work of the Lord, as I also am. ¹¹ Let no one therefore despise him: but forward him on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I expect him with the brethren. As to our brother Apollos,

⁸ Finally my brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are venerable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are friendly, whatever things are reputable, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things:

⁶ And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word tho' in much affliction, yet with joy of the holy Ghost.

¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and unblameably we behaved towards you that believe:

⁷ For ye know how ye ought to imitate us: for we were not disorderly among you; ⁸ neither did we eat any one's bread for nothing; but with labor and toil, working night and day, that we might not be burthensome to any of you. ⁹ Not that we have not power, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you to imitate us.

¹⁴ with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

⁷ Consider what I say, and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

¹⁵ Endeavour to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

²² Flee youthful passions: and follow righteousness, fidelity, love, and peace, with all those that call upon the Lord out of a pure heart:

⁷ in all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, with uncorruptness in teaching, gravity, sound doctrine that cannot be condemned;

¹³ Is there any wise and understanding man among you? let him shew his works by a good conversation in the meekness of wisdom:

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above first is pure, then peaceable, mild, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

³ nor as lording it over the people, but being examples to the flock.

⁵¹ Then saith Jesus unto them, Did ye understand all these? they say unto Him, Yes, Lord: and He said unto them, ⁵² Therefore every teacher, who has been thus instructed in the knowledge of the kingdom of heaven, is like a master of a family, who brings forth out of his store things new and old.

³⁹ Ye search the scriptures; for ye think that in them ye have eternal life:

⁴ but we will constantly attend to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

¹¹ These were more ingenuous than those at Thessalonica; for they received the word with all readiness of mind, searching the scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

⁸ he that distributeth, let him do it with integrity: he that presideth, with diligence: he that sheweth mercy, with chearfulness.

³ But he, that prophesieth, speaketh edification, and exhortation, and comfort to men.

⁶ Now, my brethren, if I come to you speaking with many tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak intelligibly to you of revelation, or knowledge, or prophecy, or doctrine?

²⁶ What is then to be done, my brethren? when ye come together, if any of you hath a psalm, a doctrine, a tongue, a revelation, an interpretation,---let all be done for edification.

¹⁴ These things I write unto thee, hoping to come to thee shortly. ¹⁵ But if I should be retarded, that thou mayst know how thou oughtest to behave in the house of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

⁶ If thou lay these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, as one brought up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, to which thou hast attained.

¹⁵ Endeavour to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ¹⁶ But avoid prophane empty harangues; for they will proceed to more impiety, ¹⁷ and their discourse will eat like a gangrene. Of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus; who have erred from the truth,

¹⁴ For as a man, who was going to travel abroad, called his servants, and delivered to them his stock: and to one he gave five talents, ¹⁵ to another two, and to another one; to each according to his ability: and then he took his journey. ¹⁶ Now he that had received the five talents, went and traded with them, and gained other five talents: ¹⁷ and likewise he that had the two, he also gained two more: ¹⁸ but he who had received the one, went and digged in the earth, and hid his master's money: ¹⁹ and after some time the lord of those servants cometh and settleth his account with them. ²⁰ And he who had received the five talents came and brought to him five talents more, saying, Sir, thou deliveredst to me five talents, behold I have gained other five talents to them: ²¹ and his lord said to him, Well done, my good and trusty servant, thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will set thee over many, enter into thy master's joy. ²² And he also who had received the two talents came to him and said, Lord, thou deliveredst to me two talents, behold I have gained two other talents with them: ²³ his lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will set thee over many, enter into the joy of thy lord. ²⁴ And he also who received the one talent came to him and said, Sir, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou sowedst not, and gathering where thou hast not strewed; ²⁵ and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the ground; behold, there is thine own: ²⁶ but his lord answered and said to him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed; ²⁷ thou oughtest then to have put my money to the bankers, and when I came I should have received my own with interest. ²⁸ Take ye therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath the ten talents; ²⁹ (for to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him that hath not, even what he hath, or seemeth to have, shall be taken away:) ³⁰ and cast out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a distant country to receive the investiture of a kingdom and then to return. ¹³ And he called ten of his servants, and delivered to them ten pounds, and said, Trade with them till I come. ¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. ¹⁵ And when he was returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to be called to him, to whom he had delivered the money, that he might know what use each had made of it. ¹⁶ Then came the first and said, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Well done, thou good servant, as thou hast been faithful in a very little, thou shalt be governor over ten cities. ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath produced five pounds: ¹⁹ and he said to this likewise, Be thou also over five cities. ²⁰ And another came, and said, Behold, my Lord, thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: ²¹ for I was afraid of thee, because thou art an austere man, who takest up what thou didst not lay down, and reapest what thou didst not sow. ²² But he said to him, Out of thy own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant, Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow; ²³ and why then didst thou not put my money into the bank, that when I came I might have received it with interest? ²⁴ And he said to them that stood by, Take away the pound from him, and give it to him that hath the ten pounds. ²⁵ (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds already:) ²⁶ for I tell you, that to every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even what he seemingly hath shall be taken away.

⁶ These they set before the apostles; who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them.

¹⁷ and they received the holy Spirit.

³ Then having fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them they sent them away.

⁶ And as Paul laid his hands on them, the holy Spirit came upon them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And the men were in all about twelve.

⁶ But having different gifts, according to the grace conferred upon us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith: ⁷ or ministry, let us attend to the ministry: or he that teacheth, on teaching: or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: ⁸ he that distributeth, let him do it with integrity: he that presideth, with diligence: he that sheweth mercy, with chearfulness.

¹⁹ Quench not the Spirit.

¹⁸ This charge I commit to thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which before came on thee, that by them thou mightest war a good warfare,

²² Lay hands on no man precipitately, and be not hereby a partaker in the sins of others. Keep thyself pure.

⁹ Be hospitable one to another, without grudging; ¹⁰ as every one hath received a gift, imparting it to each other, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. ¹¹ If any one speak, let it be as declaring the oracles of God: if any one minister, let it be as from the power which God affordeth him: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, who is in heaven.

¹⁵ I beseech you, brethren, (for ye know the family of Stephanas, that they are the first-fruits of Achaia, and

¹⁴ knowing that He, who raised up the Lord Jesus, will raise up us also by Jesus, and present us with you.

⁵ And this they did not merely as we hoped, but first gave themselves unto the Lord, and to us by the will of God.

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and inoffensive, the children of God without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ exhibiting the word of life; to my rejoicing in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.

¹⁴ who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

⁹ But look to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils, and synagogues: and ye shall be scourged, and set before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony against them.

³⁴ Take heed to yourselves, least at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of life, and so that day should come upon you unawares:

²⁶ Wherefore I call you to witness this day, that I am clear from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not failed to declare unto you all the counsel of God. ²⁸ Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the holy Spirit hath appointed you bishops, to feed the church of God, which He purchased with his own blood.

²² But having obtained help of God, I continue until this day, testifying both to small and great, and saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses declared should come to pass; even that the Messiah should suffer,

⁷ to them, who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, and honor, and immortality, eternal life:

¹⁰ For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ¹¹ For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him, shall not be ashamed. ¹² For there is no difference of Jew and Greek: for He being Lord of all is bountiful to all that call upon Him. ¹³ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ¹⁴ But how shall they call upon him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe on him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

¹⁴ I extol my office, that if possible I may excite to emulation my brethren according to the flesh, and may save some of them:

¹⁷ Now I exhort you, brethren, to mark those who cause divisions and offences, contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned:

¹⁰ According to the grace of God given to me, as a wise architect I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon: but let every one see to it how he buildeth thereon. ¹¹ For no one can lay any other foundation, but that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ: and if any build upon this foundation gold,

²² To the weak I became as the weak, that I might gain the weak: I became all things to all men, that I might by every means save some.

²⁷ but I mortify my body and bring it into subjection, least after having preached to others, I myself should be rejected.

¹⁷ And say ye to Archippus, Look well to the ministry, which thou hast received of the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus going on to fill up their sins perpetually: but wrath is coming upon them to extremity.

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? are not ye also among others in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? ²⁰ for ye are our glory and our joy.

³ As I exhorted thee to stay at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain persons not to teach other doctrine,

¹⁰ Therefore I submit to every thing for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is by Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁴ But continue thou in the things which thou hast learnt, and been assured of, knowing from whom thou hast learned them;

⁹ holding fast the faithful word, according as he hath been taught, that he may be able both to instruct in sound doctrine, and to convince gainsayers.

¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will pay it: not to say that thou indeed owest even thy own self to me.

¹⁵ looking to it, least there be any one falling short of the grace of God, least any root of bitterness springing up should be troublesome, and by it many be defiled:

²⁰ let him know that he, who turneth back a sinner from the error of his way, shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

⁸ Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which ye have wrought, but that ye may receive a full reward. ⁹ Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: but he, that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, hath both the Father and the Son.
