²⁶ saying, Go to this people and say, Ye shall hear by the hearing of the ear, and not understand; and in seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: for the heart of this people is stupified,

¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, Ye shall hear by the hearing of the ear, and not understand; and in seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: for the heart of this people is grown stupid, ¹⁵ and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; least they should see at all with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹² that in seeing they may see and not perceive, and in hearing they may hear and not understand, least they should be converted, and their sins be forgiven them.

¹⁷ And Jesus knowing it saith unto them, What are ye reasoning about? because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet discern nor understand? have ye your heart still hardened? ¹⁸ Have ye eyes, and do not see? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

¹⁰ And He said, To you it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but I speak to others in parables, that in seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

²⁵ And He said unto them, O people void of understanding and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.

⁴⁵ Then He opened their mind, to understand the scriptures:

³⁸ so that the word of Esaias the prophet was fulfilled, which he spake, saying, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ And therefore they could not believe; for Esaias had also said, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

⁸ (according as it is written, God hath given them a spirit of slumber, that their eyes could not see and their ears could not hear,) even unto this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompence unto them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and always bow down their back.

⁴ among whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, so that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, doth not shine unto them: ⁵ for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for the sake of Jesus. ⁶ For God, who commanded light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to reflect the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
