³ Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask wickedly; that ye may spend it in your pleasures.

²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask: are ye able to drink of the cup which I am going to drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

³⁸ But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup, that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

¹³ And not many days after the younger son gathered all together and went abroad into a distant country, and there squandered away his substance by living luxuriously.

³⁰ but as soon as this thy son was come, who hath eaten up thy substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

¹ And He said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and he was accused to him of wasting his goods. ² And he called him, and said unto him, What is this I hear of thee? give up the accounts of thy stewardship, for thou canst be no longer steward.

⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting; for he that doubteth is like a wave of the sea blown about and tossed by the wind. ⁷ Let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.

¹ Whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence? even of your carnal appetites making war in your bodies?

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
