⁵ For thy mouth teacheth thine iniquity, And thou chooseth the tongue of the subtile.

¹³ Capturing the wise in their subtilty, And the counsel of wrestling ones was hastened,

²² It is the same thing, therefore I said, `The perfect and the wicked He is consuming.' ²³ If a scourge doth put to death suddenly, At the trial of the innocent He laugheth. ²⁴ Earth hath been given Into the hand of the wicked one. The face of its judges he covereth, If not—where, who is he?

⁶ At peace are the tents of spoilers, And those provoking God have confidence, He into whose hand God hath brought.

¹⁹ Thy mouth thou hast sent forth with evil, And thy tongue joineth deceit together, ²⁰ Thou sittest, against thy brother thou speakest, Against a son of thy mother givest slander.

² Mischiefs doth thy tongue devise, Like a sharp razor, working deceit. ³ Thou hast loved evil rather than good, Lying, than speaking righteousness. Selah. ⁴ Thou hast loved all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

³ Who sharpened as a sword their tongue, They directed their arrow—a bitter word.

² O Jehovah, deliver my soul from a lying lip, From a deceitful tongue! ³ What doth He give to thee? And what doth He add to thee? O deceitful tongue!

³ And they bend their tongue, their bow is a lie, And not for stedfastness have they been mighty in the land, For from evil unto evil they have gone forth, And Me they have not known, An affirmation of Jehovah! ⁴ Each of his friend—beware ye, And on any brother, do not trust, For every brother doth utterly supplant, For every friend slanderously doth walk, ⁵ And each at his friend they mock, And truth they do not speak, They taught their tongue to speak falsehood, To commit iniquity they have laboured.

⁸ A slaughtering arrow is their tongue, Deceit it hath spoken in its mouth, Peace with its neighbour it speaketh, And in its heart it layeth its ambush,

²¹ for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders, ²² thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;

⁴⁵ `The good man out of the good treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which is evil; for out of the abounding of the heart doth his mouth speak.

²⁶ If any one doth think to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, of this one vain is the religion;

⁵ so also the tongue is a little member, and doth boast greatly; lo, a little fire how much wood it doth kindle! ⁶ and the tongue is a fire, the world of the unrighteousness, so the tongue is set in our members, which is spotting our whole body, and is setting on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by the gehenna. ⁷ For every nature, both of beasts and of fowls, both of creeping things and things of the sea, is subdued, and hath been subdued, by the human nature, ⁸ and the tongue no one of men is able to subdue, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison,
