⁸ For what is the hope of the profane, When He doth cut off? When God doth cast off his soul?

¹³ So are the paths of all forgetting God, And the hope of the profane doth perish,

²⁰ And the eyes of the wicked are consumed, And refuge hath perished from them, And their hope is a breathing out of soul!

¹⁶ Also—He is to me for salvation, For the profane cometh not before Him.

³⁴ For the company of the profane is gloomy, And fire hath consumed tents of bribery.

⁵ That the singing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the profane for a moment,

³ Is not calamity to the perverse? And strangeness to workers of iniquity?

¹⁴ Afraid in Zion have been sinners, Seized hath trembling the profane: Who doth dwell for us—consuming fire, Who doth dwell for us—burnings of the age? ¹⁵ Whoso is walking righteously, And is speaking uprightly, Kicking against gain of oppressions, Shaking his hands from taking hold on a bribe, Stopping his ear from hearing of blood, And shutting his eyes from looking on evil,

²⁶ for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

¹³ `Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for ye do not go in, nor those going in do ye suffer to enter.

³⁶ for what shall it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

²⁵ for what is a man profited, having gained the whole world, and having lost or having forfeited himself?

²⁰ `And God said to him, Unthinking one! this night thy soul they shall require from thee, and what things thou didst prepare—to whom shall they be? ²¹ so is he who is treasuring up to himself, and is not rich toward God.'

⁹ and those wishing to be rich, do fall into temptation and a snare, and many desires, foolish and hurtful, that sink men into ruin and destruction, ¹⁰ for a root of all the evils is the love of money, which certain longing for did go astray from the faith, and themselves did pierce through with many sorrows;

¹ Go, now, ye rich! weep, howling over your miseries that are coming upon you; ² your riches have rotted, and your garments have become moth-eaten; ³ your gold and silver have rotted, and the rust of them for a testimony shall be to you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye made treasure in the last days!
