¹³ For now, I have lain down, and am quiet, I have slept—then there is rest to me,

⁸ The eye of my beholder beholdeth me not. Thine eyes are upon me—and I am not. ⁹ Consumed hath been a cloud, and it goeth, So he who is going down to Sheol cometh not up. ¹⁰ He turneth not again to his house, Nor doth his place discern him again.

²¹ Thou dost not take away my transgression, And cause to pass away mine iniquity, Because now, for dust I lie down: And Thou hast sought me—and I am not!

²² A land of obscurity as thick darkness, Death-shade—and no order, And the shining is as thick darkness.'

¹⁰ And a man dieth, and becometh weak, And man expireth, and where is he? ¹¹ Waters have gone away from a sea, And a river becometh waste and dry. ¹² And man hath lain down, and riseth not, Till the wearing out of the heavens they awake not, Nor are roused from their sleep.

¹³ If I wait—Sheol is my house, In darkness I have spread out my couch.

²⁷ Whom I—I see on my side, And mine eyes have beheld, and not a stranger, Consumed have been my reins in my bosom.

¹³ They wear out in good their days, And in a moment to Sheol go down.

²³ This one dieth in his perfect strength, Wholly at ease and quiet.

³ If a man doth beget a hundred, and live many years, and is great, because they are the days of his years, and his soul is not satisfied from the goodness, and also he hath not had a grave, I have said, `Better than he is the untimely birth.' ⁴ For in vanity he came in, and in darkness he goeth, and in darkness his name is covered, ⁵ Even the sun he hath not seen nor known, more rest hath this than that.

¹⁰ All that thy hand findeth to do, with thy power do, for there is no work, and device, and knowledge, and wisdom in Sheol whither thou art going.
